    Thank you! I am new and I have a problem with consistency. It seems I may be using my arm more than my body. Tomorrow we are having a clinic for leads and seconds. I hope I can get this!

    Thank you for these videos. I have been curling 3 years. This year I changed from a crutch to using my broom, and I didn't notice, but some experienced curlers told me I am drifting wide. Instead of using the broom for support, I think I am splitting my left foot out. I need to review the basics and your videos are perfect.

    Congratulations on The Continental Cup win! Can you do a video about aiming and the relationship with the skip's broom placement i.e how ice plays etc. My husband and I are new to the game and love it!!! Want to get better. Love your videos too!!

    Hi Jamie. I am back to curling after 35 hiatus while having a family and moving around the country. I have some old tricks I have undone such as lifting the rock and therefore I am trying not to life my body so high during my delivery when that muscle memory kicks in. I am getting so much coaching that its actually too much coaching because I am getting conflicting advice so I am happy to watch your videos and ask questions of you (the pro). Biggest thing for me that I don't want to change is that I love to slide when I am sweeping. I am very comfortable as I was a figure skater so very comfortable on the ice. Most people as now wearing two grippers. I tried it and don't like as now I am really confused as to where my feet are and it feels dangerous to me and I am not so good at sweeping now whereas I can get down so close to the rock when I slide. I am told that I am not effective when I sweep that way, but I feel its my most effective sweeping and most of all I really enjoy it. What is your input. JOY

      Hi Joy, the best sweeping is however you feel comfortable. Personally I slider sweep when i am on the left side of the rock and use two grippers if i am sweeping on the right side. Both can be just as effective so its really up to you.

    I just started this sport a few weeks ago. I am 64, flexible, weight lift and teach yoga. The first week I was fine, second week I kept ending up on my right knee and it was sore from bump bump bumping along. I want to switch to the stick now before I injure myself. Do you think this is a wise move or should I persevere?

    The suggestion of holding the parking position for "just a second", is that due to not wanting to disrupt the rhythm of your cadence? More specifically, do find that that length of time is a balance between ensuring that you're taking the time to get sliding foot, hips, etc. to where you want them, while trying to maintain a level of fluidity to your delivery?

    • @CurlUpWithJamie
      @CurlUpWithJamie  7 лет назад

      Timing is key, you want to always have the same timing. Once the timing is off, you can twist and it can throw you off line. You don't want to stay in that position too long simply because you don't want to take up too much time and you don't want to tire your leg muscles too much by holding that position.

    Hi Jamie! I just started curling this year for my schools team and all the other newbies kinda have this whole slide thing down. For the life of me I can't stay up! No matter what I try I am never able to stay on my feet and not end up on my butt. I was wondering if you could give me any more tips to help me out. I'm 15 and never thought i would ever be doing curling, but I am really having fun with it and would love it if I could succeed for once. Thanks.

    • @CurlUpWithJamie
      @CurlUpWithJamie  8 лет назад

      +sanford jessica Don't give up! You will succeed!
      Here are a couple things you could work on:
      - watch my video on "balance" haha
      - practice sliding with a rock in one hand and the broom in another
      - make sure your broom is really tucked in the small of your back so that you can use it for balance if you need it
      - start off by pushing out slow and control (even if its just to the back line), once you can do that without falling then you can increase your speed.
      - make sure your sliding foot settles in under your chest (your centre of gravity). You don't want to "over shoot" your sliding foot because this will most likely send you off balance!

    I wonder is it important to keep your back knee off the ice when sliding forward?

    • @CurlUpWithJamie
      @CurlUpWithJamie  8 лет назад

      +Steve Leon Its definitely important! 1) you don't want it to cause drag. This will slow your body speed down and consequently it affects your draw weight and your ability to throw big hit weight. 2) you want to try and avoid having any body part touching the ice at any time so that your body heat doesn't melt it and cause flat/soft spots (those spots will affect the rock when it travels over it)

    Is your non-slider leg supposed to be right behind you? I've been taught to try to bring it over further to get more balance.

    • @CurlUpWithJamie
      @CurlUpWithJamie  7 лет назад

      It should be right behind you. So if you are looking from behind then your body is in a nice straight arrow. Your broom is your balance point.

    What can you do to correct the 'fishtail' in terms of your timing?

    • @CurlUpWithJamie
      @CurlUpWithJamie  8 лет назад

      +Laura Chris There are a couple things that can cause a 'fishtail' but as far as timing goes, you really just want to make sure that the rock gets going towards the target first and that your body just falls into place behind. If they both move at the same time then it can cause a slight drift. So i would say work on delaying the sliding foot slightly.

    But how could I stay straight on the line when I want to aim at where my skip wants the stone?

    • @lekare88
      @lekare88 4 года назад

      She says, "on a straight line, towards the target (skipper)", not along the center line of the game field.

    I've been curling for about 3 years now and I'm noticing my body is slowly going more into a tuck slide. Naturally I'm finding it's a lot easier to throw takeout weight now but I'm wondering if I should transition to a tuck delivery or really work hard at keeping a flat foot slide? What's your suggestion? Thanks!

    • @CurlUpWithJamie
      @CurlUpWithJamie  7 лет назад +1

      I would suggest trying to keep the flat foot delivery as it may provide more stability and more consistency over the long run. With practice and some technical tips, big weight can be developed with a flat foot. Also, some people find the tuck delivery harder on their knees and joints over time.
