Hey Tinker, appreciate the video and the work.
My grandfather used a .22 hornet to defend his clothing store in Los Angeles in the early 1980s. Before they had the bars installed my grandpa would sleep in the back, two men broke in the front. The .22 did the job just fine. I always wondered why he had that of all things but thats what he had available.
He never got into any legal issues and never heard about it again after a quick chat with the cops on scene.
I do believe he got ahold of an autoloader 9mm not long after.
H and R shotguns make good rifles. I have a H and R "Topper" model I converted much as you but in 32-20 win. Bought a green mountain blank then turned a taper on it to mimic the 20 ga barrel. Cut off and fitted it into the breech end of the barrel by threading and tapping. Chambered and new extractor and Bobs your uncle you have a 32-20 handi rifle. One thing I always do and that is to bore out the receiver breech face to accept a bushing made from tool steel and turn a new smaller firing pin. The bushing is captured by two 4-40 screws drilled and tapped into the breech face. That way now blown primers to worry about.
It is lightweight, simple, unique and most importantly gives you pleasure. Sounds like a perfect little rifle. It's not bad looking either. It's hard to go wrong with a refinished wood stock. Personally, I like the imperfections/character from decades of use and would not sand them all away.
We have 5 guns in 22 Hornet. For reloading there is nothing comparable to Hodgdon Lil' Gun powder. You can fill the case and still not make too much pressure. 13.5 grains is my favorite 40 gr load. The one K Hornet we have I have yet to load for, but I do have the dies. Very useful cartridge as it offers up 80% of a 223 load with half the powder. Report is not at all like a .223 either and is much milder. Out to 200yds in our flat country it will get the job done handily.
A similar carbine in 357 Magnum would lovely… I could go on all day commenting on what I think sounds good but I won’t. Take care amigo
I like the stock. Thanks for not removing the character marks. It gives the gun a gently used look.
Previous audio was not irritating. This audio is clean but 'over' modulated. Has sort of an AM radio announcer effect. I think I like it.
Cool little gun. Thanks for sharing. I have a H&R handy rifle in 22 hornet and before that a old Savage bolt gun in 22 hornet. I have never got except able accuracy from the caliber.
Handy little rifle, single shot firearms are always handy and light.
Man that's a sweet little TCS #2* carbine (Tinker Converted Shotgun #2 with the 'star' denoting the modified firing pin and bushing)😀 Not sure why opening is sticky, but "Dykem" is your friend to find if things rub which aren't supposed to which would likely be the reason for the sticking. Also check how the extractor cam looks. And check your dies for shoulder placement. Hopefully it's not case setback from a springy action cause I have no idea how to fix that.
Your audio is 'clipping' so you need to turn the gain on the mic down slightly. If it lacks that adjustment go to your vid editing software and look for audio gain input or 'compression' and drop a bit there. The volume is a bit lower than before, so look for a volume or gain adjustment on the output side and add a little back there. You might also try the mic on your collar fist; sometimes placement helps. Make one adjustment at a time starting from output going toward input, then tweaking individual settings as needed to make it perfect from there.

Ages since I heard talk about .22 Hornet. Friend liked the .218 Bee. Dad Had a .221 Fireball for a XP-100.
.22 Hornet was popular here in Australia years ago, probably less so now with . 223 being much more prevalent now than it was. Pistol primers are said to be better than rifle primers in .22 Hornet. Winchester 40gn projectiles that were otherwise intended for . 22 magnum were also a popular choice until they became unavailable.
It is also chambered in TC Contender barrels and at one time was issued by the US Air Force in a 14” barreled bolt action survival rifle.
The rear sight looks like it came off of a Nylon 66. 😁
It may have; it was in a box of random parts someone gave me.

.22 Hornet was popular in silhouette shooting- hence the revolvers.

Sound seems fine , but I never had a problem with it before. That’s a cool little carbine. Something like that in 30-30 or 30 carbine would be darn cool as well. 30 carbine might be a bit more difficult being rimless but who knows. Thanks for sharing
Well, i guess I'll be the outlayer here. I liked the sound better before. Not that it matters much because i can hear ya and im here for the guns and your sense of humor.

LOL! Nylon 66 rear sight! Ruger Mini-14 front sight. I'll stick with my Ruger #3 in .22 Hornet! Hornet twist rate is 1:14" 22-250 is 1:8". I shoot Speer/Sierra 52gr BTHP's and am getting 2700+ fps out of the Ruger #3. I picked up a bunch of 5.7X28 40 gr FMJ's from Midway and they will do 3000fps with the same powder charge as the 52's.
Re-use, recycle and re-purpose! I'd love to have a Ruger #3 like yours; it's undoubtedly a much better rifle. This one's purpose was to be a fun project and see what I could do. I'm just glad it works.

There have been several custom conversions, with new barrels and cylinders. Magnum Research offered their BFR in the caliber. Taurus offered it too, and Ruger is currently cataloguing their Super Redhawk in 22 Hornet.

I'll pay you $100 for that - $150 if you include your hornet brass, $175 if you also include your hornet bullets, $200 if you also include the bullet mold. (hopefully it won't turn out you have 4 cases, 1 bullet, and a broken mold - if so oh well better luck next time).

I don’t mind the smacking sound you make when talking. It’s just who you are, no need for a new microphone. I can’t hear as well with the new mic. Sounds muffled. What’s causing the action to stick when fired and can you fix it? Love the gun and hope to see it fully functional and sighted in. Keep up the videos, new microphone or not.
Haven't quite got it sussed out yet, but we shot a fair bit after shooting the video and it seems to be getting better. I'll check things out thoroughly and see if I can figure it out.

Not really; I would need to buy a chambering die and reloading dies, and I don't really need more than the standard cartridge offers in terms of performance.

Your Tribble sounds good, it gives an even & balanced sound (if that makes sense). Scotty would be happy. I was wondering about how you would handle making the initial test shots. Is .22 Hornet the round where the gases would eat through the top strap above the cylinder gap in reolvers? IIRC(??) Ruger had this problem with their Blackhawk, of course it might've been another caliber.

@@tinkertalksguns7289I think I heard that back in the early/mid '80s.
That was the 357 Maximum, built on the extended frame. In service, the top strap did gas cut but it was a self-limiting event. I recall reading that the problem was minimal with 158 grain bullets and heavier, but the lighter bullets that were run at max charges were what caused the most damage.
It seems like the rifling twist would be wrong .
I considered that and when I looked into it it looked fine (I don't remember the exact specs off-hand.)

I didn't unfortunately. It was the first test-firing and I wasn't filming.

That would be cool, but it costs money. I was given all of the pieces that made this gun which works much better with my budget!
