Humble no doubt. Naturally my favorite musicians are people that could just as easily be my next door neighbors. Kim Mitchell and Paul 'gilbalt' Gilbert are guitar LEGENDS! Cool interview!
Kim is very humble indeed but he is a master himself. Paul was not kidding when he said he learned from listening to Kim's playing. I know I did. Been learning riffs from Kim for 30+ years now. :-)
No problem, happy to help. Kim and Max Webster has been among my top fav's since the 70s. Kim's stuff is pretty easy to find, and I can actually also recommend a truly awesome compilation with a bonus DVD that was released 2 years ago. I think it's just called "Fill Your Head With Rock" (Sweden Rock Records).
Kim Mitchell made numerous albums in the 70s with the awesome band Max Webster (where the riff they played was of). Check out albums like "Hangover", "High Class In Borrowed Shoes", "Universal Juveniles" etc. Kim on his solo part is a bit more radio friendly, but you should defintely check out albums like "Itch", "I'm A Wild Party Live" and "Kimosabe".
Paul Gilbert and Kim Mitchell seem like they are fans of each others music. They seem to have made quick friends. Hey, they might as well go for a soda!
the guy thats interviewing him is Kim Mitchell? Paul seems to site him as an influence but I've never heard of him, can anyone let me know what he's about? just curious...
max Webster's first four album are as good of records as you will ever hear I can't even site a song that I didn't like on those albums..and a great live act..they used to play on the bill as rush
For Kim to have Paul 'Wandering around Toronto, looking for Max Webster records' must have been a huge compliment for him.
great interview. two humble and talented guys. love it!
Paul Gilbert is the best! I will never understand how anyone wouldn't like him or his music!

I saw that concert.....amazing. As a matter of fact, I was at the Hard Rock Cafe where they did this interview but about 1/2 hr after Paul left
This is true. One of the most accomplished technicians around, regardless of genre or style.
Oh my god, Paul Gilbert is actually my hero, he is such a legend!!
Paul has the best pick hand technique around. His string skipping is unmatched!!!
I was at that G3 show! Absolutely amazing...
rubank, thanks so much for the detailed advice on Kim. I will definitly check out some of his stuff, i love finding new music!! :)

He has an email address where you can get a hold of him on his website. I'd imagine that he is very busy and gets a lot of messages though.
Thank YOU!
