You can save tons of time,, & $$$$ by putting all the water & drains lined-up!! I've fought with home owners to save them trouble & hacking the frame up before the build...Running your traps through an unheated garage your gonna have trouble,, trust me!! when buying plumbing parts,, buy extras,, you can always take
      them back!!

Martin, I'm sure you know about cutting into that floor joist the way you did. If you don't have to worry too much about inspection, scab some plywood and added framing members from your scrap pile on each side of the joist with structural screws. You can even add blocking between the three affected joists. Over time, the weakening of that joist will bite you under that toilet. Add some cheap support. Everything else looked great.

Don't sweat the truss. You are doing pretty well. One of the worst mistakes of non-professionals is to "stress" the pipe on the structure. Make sure the plumbing is somewhat loose going through floors and joists. Cheers, RGW

You just weakened that floor joist. Talk to the manufacturer about the damage limits on it, and what you can do to make it safe.

    • @WarpFactor999
      @WarpFactor999 3 года назад +1

Exactly! He may be able to sister the damaged portion of the truss. But the key is to get the manufacturer to specify the repair and get it in writing from them to satisfy the inspector.

We lived in some "exciting" living arrangements while we worked on various phases of the home. Also that mold spray is awesome. I would put a scrap pc. of 1/2" dry wall behind tub, and sink cabinet to make sure every things fits. Make sure if pipes on on an outside wall that that you insulate them good to keep them from freezing. A little hint, mark all your pipes with a white marker. Make a straight line on both pc. when you have them where you want them, then put an "A" on both pc. next pipe put a straight line and then a "B" on both pc. and so on. Make sure every thing is dry fit and mark it. Saves a lot of work later if some thing does not fit. Before you cut a truss or floor joist I would check with your building inspector. If you lines are in the ceiling and its unheated you might have to insulate those pipes, spray foam the underside of the roof.

If you put powdered boric acid mixed with a small amount of powdered sugar (yes really) on all of the bottom sills, you'll stop ants, termites, and roaches for nearly the life of your building. Be generous with the stuff. $100 now could save you $$$$$ later. (This is what Terminex uses by the way.)

Those floor joists can be repaired, no problem. The top chord of the truss is under a compression load so it's not as serious as cutting the bottom chord. Your truss manufacturer can give you a fix, probably just some plywood or 2x's sistered to the truss as others have suggested. For your cabin electrical you can route a lot of the wiring in your crawl space floor joist space or attic so you don't have to remove much wall insulation. You can also just move the insulation to the side as you'll be stapling the romex to the wall framing members.

The plumbing waste wont pass code.
Sharp MS turn 90 can only be used horizontal to vertival. The shower 90 after the santee on its back is a medium sweep. You need to use 2 45s or a long turn 90.
The lav 90 needs to be a long turn 90. You can wet vent the lav into the 3" vent and dirty arm over.
The toilet vent is flat. The wye must be at least 45 degree from the horizontal.
Sugest a clean out on the 3" vent, strap every 4 ' down and up because ABS will bow up. Block the closet bend between the floor the top of the horizontal part of the closet bend. The closet bolts will act as a gear puller and the WC will rock. A wood block prevents this.
The truss is toast. You either need an engineered fix or add a truss. If the over span allowances spec. out you might be all right. The truss layout should have been done to accommodate the plumbing. Too bad😂. A left hand tub might have done the trick and they make tubs just for truss abstructions. Another easy fix would use a rodless waste and overflow and plumb around the truss before the p trap. Maybe next time🤷‍♂️. Stop cutting or bending the truss ties becaus you might get called on that.
The kitchen and laundry are too far to tie into the 3" bathroom vent. UPC 904-2 the horizontal vent must not exceed 1\3 of the total length. Horizontal rise + vertically run = total developed length.
Example: TDL = 9' only 3' is allowed horizontally.
Ps. Cut the plywood even flush to the bottom plate on your tub cut out.

You might get lucky and get an inspector lacking experience but the short turns are going to give you problems down the line, pardon the pun. My 55 years in plumbing say it won't fly inspection wise nor functionality.
Use pex over the garage with the expansion fitting if freezing is an issue. No shark tooth fittings, just buy the pex tool and keep it for the next project.
Looks like you guys are having a blast. Me personally have owner built 4 large homes and plumbed hundreds. The home building has been the most enjoyable. Hey! I'm the boss not the sub.

45 Degree fitting will work, but MUST be a "long sweep" 45... longer radius= better flow rate.

Hi Martin and Julie, greetings from Denmark.....love to watch your builds and progress, but was thinking about your vents from toilet, showers and all....in Denmark we sometimes take them out the side of the house....could you not go out in the end of the house on 2nd floor ?? then you dont need to make hole in your roof....

as many have told you the truss idea was bad, as was clipping the reinforcement nailers
there are fixes, plywood on both sides with construction glue and screws but you need to find out what those fixes are. they will fail inspection

Please don't use click bait I love your videos. I imagined leaks having to cut drains loose holes cut in wrong places etc. But I seen nothing wrong you did a good job ! Not a disaster as is suggested.

some of the commenters would disagree. Seems cutting that floor truss was a disaster and now we will fail inspection. We will have to see if that is true. Wish i thought about it before i cut it.

i thought it was 3/8 inch per 10 foot. but i was all over the place in my house and couldnt see where it was going. so last week i made up my mind one bedroom and bath until its 100% finished. and use the kitchen as the overflow work. when i get that done and i hope by Friday. i will move in the living room and pantry and still use the kitchen as the over flow work. and i think by then i will only have on bathroom and bed room to do and i could care less if it takes another year to do that. i just need out of this deathtrap we are in right now. and praying April 1st we can be in the new house.

Yeah you realllllyy can not cut trusses... you will probably need to replace it....
Genuinely it could collapse, theres a reason for inspectors to be extreme on this.

Contact the manufacturer of your trusses about you cutting the top chord. They may have a engineering fix for it.
Also mention that you cut the connection plate.

I know there is a lot to remember, but in the future you might lay the floor joists such that they will clear the plumbing drain areas. So one asks, "Is there any plumbing that could be in the way as I roll the joists?" Oftentimes when people have problems down the road with houses, it is because of construction errors up front. Some notching is allowed in regular floor joists in the areas of the left third of the span and the right third of the span, but never in the center third of the span. But those are floor trusses, designed by the manufacturer. The manufacturer can guide you on what is best, especially with a 26-foot span like that, plus the weight of water in the tub. At the least, I would reinforce the cut area with some wood, say a vertical piece or two. Also the only thing supporting that wall along the front of the tub is plywood. All walls need some structural support underneath - at least blocking. How I would have supported that wall is to have put a floor truss underneath. Let us know of the outcome. It can be worked out.

Making a notch in the truss as small as it was would not affect the strength of the truss. The safety margin on them is way more than what is required. But. There are people who will disagree. If there’s regulation you have to follow. It’s check mate. If you hadn’t made a video on it no one would have known. Just opinion. Great job you guys are doin.
