Are you able to still remove the battery from your phone? Is yours an older phone? Mine is about a year old and I cannot remove the battery. There is no way to access to my phones battery without breaking open the phone.

an IMSI catcher is used as a cell tower spoofer and the hacker needs to be in the middle of you and the nearest cell tower. Mobile phones are dumb and connect to the strongest compatible signal. an IMSI can capture unencrypted communications such as SMS, cellular calls, and parts of the unencrypted protocol the phone uses to connect to a cell tower such as the SIM IMSI number. They are not used to hack the actual mobile device unless the hackers was sophisticated enough to build an extremely capable and expensive IMSI catcher. The official device that intelligence uses is called a Stingray and according to documentation they have the ability to push spyware to mobile devices.

They ran me out of town. I tried to go back home but it was a trap. They tried to set me up. They were in my phone and tried to drain my battery so I couldn't use the camera on my phone. I've been doing that for quite awhile now. It is pretty beneficial actually save for when some employer requires my use of a phone to track time. I just pass that job up, not worth my time

SS7 is still the most widely used signaling and while an LTE carrier may use Diameter for their network, roaming uses SS7 for networks to talk to each other globally. The majority of the world also uses 3g/2g so anyone who travels is vulnerable.
Femtocell is on our roadmap. it solves the home or office vulnerability since IMSI's are based on signal strength, but outside of home/office the mobile user is vulnerable.

Depends on the tracking medium, there are ways to block it and figure it out. It's not always accurate

What about areas that do not have 3G towers any more? my would my phone connect to a 3G tower if major cell companies took those towers down?
Then use LTE/5G only mode, it based on your phone settings
