has to deal w the muscles in the finger it can put more pressure pulling in then flicking to the side

Eddie yeah ,to me it's awkward tapping down,,I tap I don't take notice how my finger goes ,I'll have to take notice what I don't think I move my finger any where,but up straight

Yeah plus think about it .. the fretting hand tends to pulloff down so having the other pulloff up the hands work better together. Also incorporates/ mimics the natural plucking of the picking hand

It's because of gravity. Pushing it down means it has to fight gravity to get back up. Starting from up it has the added boost of gravity to begin with so the oscillation has more potential energy from the first swing to pass on to the next in the series of scratches from middle resting position.
