Not mine! Half hour lesson. I'm playing within 60 seconds of sitting down(he expects you to be in tune when you hit the chair). If I play the previous material well alone, he makes me play it again with him adding rhythm or soling depending on what I'm playing. If he decides I don't need any more work on it, out comes something new within about 30 seconds. 5-10 minutes going over that, and the rest of the time playing stuff I've already learned.

My guitar teacher was awesome, he showed me the proper way to play, never got frustrated (I imagine that must be hard because I had a hard time remembering notes and stuff, still do). And he always encouraged me to do well and he'd tell me stories of how he used to jam out with his buddies. I stopped because I just wasn't feeling right in the head and just lost motivation. He begged for me to keep going because he had that much faith in me to play well and just continue whenever I can. I started playing the guitar again and I'm enjoying it so much. I had a teacher once that could cram an hour of theory on top of 20 minutes of scales and teaching two songs at the same time every week within a 45 minute lesson. 😳 all while doing his best impression of the dude from whiplash. I could never practice enough for him. I was terrified of him. Years later I ran into him at a gig. His band opened for us. Dude in real life was cool as heck. We were good friends after that until he passed. Seriously terrifying though. 😳

I just realized I had the most wonderful guitar teacher as a kid. I wish she was still around so I could tell her again.

i had the one that turns everything into a life lesson lol. honestly the best type, like 70% sure he was stoned most of the time but he made learning the guitar feel like getting high (if that makes any sense?)

I've only ever had one guitar teacher and he was definitely the overly nice one lol, I'd be doing the worst run through of a scale ever and he'd say 'Wow I wish I was as fluent as you'

I have never actually taken guitar lessons lmao. I always thought that learning from amazing people like you was a more prominent choice, and because of that decision here I am playing guitar when I could have just stopped years ago! This was a funny video indeed!

I took a few lessons back when I was 15 in 2000, but after the guy showed me bar chords, power chords and a few basic songs with some solos, and also showed me how to use tablature, I continued learning by myself. During the pre/early internet era lessons were more common because the information to learn wasn't as easily accessible as it is now, especially if you were from a rural area like I was. Now you can learn all the basics for free online. Not that you couldn't learn on your own before the internet, but now everything is made so much easier to learn with all the videos etc. if you are willing to put in the effort.

@@yearginclarke Ahh yes that is true. I just always felt the need to learn on my own, because I honestly believe that now with my current skill, experience, and amount of time I have had with the instrument, I don't need to go to classes or lessons. Maybe the experience of witnessing a lesson could change my perspective eventually, but as of now, I am happy where I am. Also really informative and awesome story of your history to see my man.

@@RC32Smiths01 Yeah I don't think anyone really needs lessons anymore. The only "lessons" I got after my start was playing with other guitarists and in a band. I did learn a little about song arrangement, timings and structure by playing in an amateur garage band from the more experienced guys. But mostly I learned everything on my own, and focused on developing playing by ear after a while.

@@yearginclarke Ahh yes I did most of the same, minus ever being in a band haha. Ye I find that not only learning on our own helps develop guitar skill as time progresses along with consistency and determination, it also makes ye feel proud of yourself and builds self esteem for more general life experiences.

I don’t have a guitar teacher. I am self taught

Omg this is spot on. I’ve taught since 1994 and been guilty of many of these.
