      This is a great idea! I am new and looking to jump into the hobby. Just a question, isn't the First Strike box by itself 100pts for both Space Marines and Death Guards? Why would you need the extra Easy-to-build Plague Marines?

  • @korrul

    Tau Empire PSA - You can hit exactly 100 with just a box of Pathfinders for 35 bucks (3 x Gunner with Rail Gun , Shas'ui, 6 x Normals, 3 drones)
    This not very customisable, but if you are willing to then add Stealth suits, you are at 52 bucks with roughly 180 points of multiple interesting options
    All prices taken from the official GW Site, man, you in US are overpaying (I got those two boxes in Poland for ~40-45 dollar equivalent)
    Cheers, found your content looking around for Kill Team, having great time with your vids!

      Thank you. I edited out exact points because I remembered that it's not a good idea and GW doesn't like it (which I totally understand). I do not promise that the basic pathfinder list is good (I will prolly try it out this evening), but it's cheap, easily expandable and on paper seems playable, providind decent fire power, some anti-armor capability and board presence

    • @korrul

      Oh, small aditional note - it's 13 models, so while it's completely legal in normal matches, technically you start campaign with a roster of 12 and increasing it later after mission doesn't cost anything - but I assume that if you start out with just a box of Pathfinders and 3 are drones that are not getting xp, people shouldn't make a fuss about it if you inform them about the situation

    For those building Necron Warriors:
    Build only 8 warriors and use bits from the others to customize their specialization.
    The gun cap bits look great on the back of the neck as a coms spec or leader
    scarabs climbing bodies or bases help differentiate models. perch one on a shoulder like a parrot.
    use the axe-heads of unused guns to give a combat spec pointy shoulders.

    • @arKiteX3
      @arKiteX3 6 лет назад +4

      As a Thousand Sons player, I will warn you that it's very difficult to make a full Rubric squad with any sort of upgrades, just due to how the numbers line up. You can run 1 Aspiring Sorcerer and 5 Rubric Marines for 97 points, but our Rubricae upgrades all cost 4 points, so you don't get any Warpflamers or Soulreaper Cannons. On the other hand, if you run 4 Rubric marines, you have 19 points left over for upgrades -- enough to run 3 Warpflamers and 1 SRC, and you really don't want THAT many Warpflamers usually, usually leaving a lot of wasted points. This is why I'm running 1 Sorc, 3 Rubric specialists, and filling in the rest with Tzaangor meatshields--but I have a full TS army, so I have those to spare. Those who have Silver Tower Tzaangors might want to dust them off for this.

      If you treated each model as depicted (Which, by the way, is entirely possible with Kill Team's rules) then you would get a 95 point Primaris Space Marine army and a 72 point Death Guard army, all for about $32 as stated above. The difference in points is really only because Space Marines from any faction are some of the most expensive models you can add at 14+ points each while Poxwalkers are probably the cheapest models at only 3 points.
      Add in one of those 5-model Chaos Cultist boxes mentioned in the video for another 20-points to help make up the difference and you've got yourself two full armies to play Kill Team with, all for about $40 or £31.

    No doubt it’s already been said but I went for First Strike which is £25. You’ll get 100 points of Space Marines but you’ll need another easy to build Plague Marine box to bump up the death guard but that way at least you have two cheap factions for your friends to play complete with different colour plastic so you can have them get stuck in if you want.
    Also for those getting the starter box, you won’t get enough Genestealer cults for 100 points. I cheated and bought the writhing shadow starter box too as you can use pure Genestealers in your list. Also I’ll have the beginnings of a Tyranids faction too one day when I have the money.

    There is a $10 box of four Guardians, so you can buy that and a box of Dire Avengers for $45. A better option than Guardians only, especially as the Exarch is a beast!

    • @korrul
      @korrul 6 лет назад

      How you run the Exarch? I was looking and I'm not sure if I would go with double Avenger Shuriken Catapult and use the Tactics or with a melee setup, possibly as Medic to use the steroid tactics, with campaign advancements going Anatomist into Toxin Synthesis for higher chances of procing Dire Sword

    • @jonasbarka
      @jonasbarka 6 лет назад +2

      @@korrul I haven't played Craftworld myself, but here is my take:
      Double Shuriken is the best value, I would run that standard. But the team is weak in CC for in missions where you need that have an alternate build with Power Sword. Remember that you can have several Exarchs on your roster as long as you only field one at a time.
      As for leveling up skills, I think paying 4 points per extra level is very seldom worth it. Your example might be one of the exceptions, but probably not.

    i think the pathfinder box is a better choice than firewarriors. it has enough drones and special weapons to get to 100 points and they do really well with synergy and they all get markerlights its a very well rounded force imo, the fire warrior box does get you breachers though on top of regulars so it depends what you like

    One of the reasons I love Grey Knight so much is you get 10 models. So even if you don't magnetize the arms/weapons, you can have a backup squad ready to mix and match your units. If you get the Intercessors and Reivers, you play with very basic weapons on those 2 Primaris models and that's it. Deathwatch is great value, but only if you magnetize or otherwise get to change your loadout whenever you want. 5 static models is a rough KT to have.

    I don't know what the prices are like across the pond, but here in the UK the expansion box sets are a pretty good deal. I just bought the Drop Force Imperator set for £30.
    For comparison, the Tempestus Scions alone are £21, so for the extra £9 you're also getting some scenery (in this case, 2 Munitorum Containers some barrels and supply crates) and all the associated tactics, tokens and datacards.

      @llazyllama1 6 лет назад +2

      Yeah, that's the problem. The box of Tempestus Scions is only going to come out to 50-60 points depending on weapon options. The "good," thing about the boxes though is that they come with Tactics cards that are not available in the core rules, and some of those Tactics are *really* good. Kind of a shitty move on GW's part, IMO, but otherwise the boxes are a pretty good value for what's inside.

    • @IndigoStickman
      @IndigoStickman 6 лет назад

      Ross I was going to do the same, but as I bought the starter box I realised the scenery in the expansion set wouldn't fit and even if it did it would look too cramped so I went for the Scion box on its own.
      I've now got the scions, a pathfinder box plus the two forces from the starter kit to make four teams for a full narrative campaign.
      Those shipping containers did look really nice though...

    In the U.K., we have Warhammer 40K Conquest magazine... the first issue had the 3-piece press-fit Primaris Intecessors for £1.99 (plus three paints!)... the 3rd issue was £7.99 and had the 3-piece press-fit Reivers. Think that one had dice and paint as well! So £10 for a 100pt Primaris Kill Team!!!

    If you can get your hands on one, the Start Collecting Deathwatch box is $85 ($72 if you shop around online) and you could fairly easily sell the Captain and the Dreadnought (separately) on eBay for total ~$40. Leaves you with 10 Deathwatch marines for a net of $32. It's definitely one of the better ways to build a pretty sweet Deathwatch command roster for Kill Team.

    Great video as always. One thing I wanna add is for the orks. You might be better off buying a box of lootaz/burna boyz and a box of boyz. The models uses the same bodies, so you can put the remaining 4 burnaz/looted gunz from the kit on the boyz bodies and still have 7 boyz to work with as boyz.

Of course it's 2 years later and now most of what was presented in this video is either not available (or at least not anywhere near the prices they were when this was made. It seems it's more like $70 now for most of this.) Can you or anyone else recommend some new updated to this. Or maybe consider making an updated video on this subject I would love to see it.

    You can buy the “First Strike” 40k box, which is a miniature version of the Dark Imperium box, and it’s got 6 pox walkers, 3 plague marines, 3 primaris marines, and 3 reavers. And it’s $40. That’s two kill teams for $40, $20 for each Killteam, as well as a board and little bit of terrain. That’s an amazing deal.

  • @kasyu1101

    I mean, with tau, you're better off just buying the start collecting set for 90$, since that also gives you a 55$ crisis suit team, but you can't use those in the base game.
    as for tyranids, you are kind of forced to use warriors, because otherwise you are at a huge disadvantage.

    Love the videos, long time lurker, first time commenter and all that.
    When you talk about Necron Reanimation protocols you talk about the 6 in injury roll as if the Necron player is the one taking the roll. This is correct EXCEPT when you're being attacked. When you're being attacked, the attacker takes the roll. It is a case of poorly organized rules, but go look closely where the injury rule directs you back to the Inflict Damage rule on p31.
    If so, don't feel bad. I think everyone makes that mistake. It matters mostly because of who gets the standard re-roll opportunities.

    If you are buying the book for $40 + $50 for kill team but for $130 you get the board + scenery and two teams - cut in with friend you have the lot for $65 and as you grow to love the game can expand to other factions and an additional book.

    I simply bought a box of core Ork Boyz and a box of core Cadian Shock troops, you get 11 minis. in one and 10 in the other. On Ebay they're only about $25 per box brand new with free shipping! Then I just used Bits World and Kromlech online stores to get a few extra bits like some big weapons to glue to their backs like they're carrying them strapped over their shoulders. I also got a couple packs of Kromlech's backpacks to add to the models, makes them look more like they are on a campaign and have been out in the field for a while. All totalled the two full kill teams, 20 models cost me about $85.00. Not bad!

    Orks - I'm making a (slightly proxied) 100 pt army using a single box of boys! Proxying the Nob and 4 choppa boys as Kommandos, then proxying 1 boy as a nob, the rest straight up as Shoota/Gunner boys. So yes, if you want the actual models it doesn't count, but since Kommandos are a Boys-type unit, I don't feel it's too bad.

    I paid 20€ for a Necronkillteam with all unit options. I had 12 old Necron warriors in my bit box, bought 10 of the indomitus Necron Warriors for 15€ and 5 Sets of the Necron Sniper for 5€. I converted 5 old warriors to flayed ones (pretty easy conversion if you have green stuff), used 3 old warriors for Deathmark conversions, and used the remaining ones with the new gauss rifle. I used some green stuff, and wire to convert the new, chunky warriors into 2x5 Immolators with both weapon options, and bought the new necron commander for another 5€ to be able to play them in commander. By far one of my cheapest projects so far.

  • @SeeSebastian
    @SeeSebastian 4 года назад +1

    Imperial Guard might have a better time getting a box of scions, and either push-fit figures or some metal special weapons characters. The problem in buying the Cadian box is while you're going to get a lot of troops they're only options besides one flamer and one grenade launcher is gonna be las guns which really doesn't cut it against some enemies. If you go ahead and get Scions you're gonna be getting a lot more customizability per unit with more special weapons and even just more bits. While the scion box alone wont push you to 100 it's only gonna be about 25 points short which you can easily supplement with some special weapons Cadians or a box of shock troopers the latter of which would only bring you to 45 bucks.

    For Tau, one stealth suit box $25-$30 with its marker drone and setting up model specialty will be a perfect 100 point kill team. It’s actually a damn good one too. You have to either have one with a fusion blaster (recommended) or all models high level. Set your model abilities and specialties and a stealth suit box is a damn good team

    I got a Necron starter kit for $67 USD at my LGS. Everything you could possibly need for a KT as long as you're creative enough to make your own Flayed Ones out of spare warriors. Of course the cost doesn't end there once you start buying everything needed to paint! My startup costs for assembly/paint easily matched maybe exceeded my costs for miniatures.

    Great job...for the gateway gamer, I totally agree this is THE 40k game to get. And I did a quick follow-up on your suggestions for Astra Militarum as that's what I'm brewing. It IS slim pickins for $50....model kit selections are sooooo limited!!! Nonetheless, here's my 100 pt force:
    Tempestor(LDR); Scion Gunner(Sniper); Scion Gunner(HVY); Scion(Medic); Scion: Scions Box@ $35;;
    Guard Sgt; 3 Special Wpns Guardsmen; Vox Guardsman; Guardsman: Variables below:
    Cadian/Catachan Command Squad: $10 over-budget and missing one model;
    Cadian Shock Troops: $14 over budget with 4 extra models & plenty of weapons bits for the BOX;
    Cadians: $5 under budget (with NO idea how difficult PTF models can be modified for weaponry/equipment that You will have left over from the Tempestus Box and WILL need to make the Team viable).
    Just my "tuppence" ....to a very good presentation by Uncle Atom. Cheers!

    I bought a box of easy-to-build reivers and easy-to-build intercessors, using spare pieces from 30k hb and rocket launcher to convert them into infernus (flamer tip and melta bomb for fuel canister) and frag cannon (shells of original frag cannon look exactly same as shells in launcher magazine, so it's even wysiwyg), rest are 2 reavers with knives and 1 intercessor with boltgun and auspex. If we don't count extra bitz I used to convert them, which you can easily trade in your local games store from others (thats what I normally do to get extra pieces), price of paints you need to finish them will come higher than price of models.
    And no, I am not using hideous siver pauldrons, using my own chapter playing by DW rules. So if you want pauldrons too it will clock at $42 as per GW website.

  • @Rafferty1968

    I also got the Deathwatch Kill Team, and they are very nice, however, if you want to be adaptable in terms of weapon choices, you are limited to what you choose when you assemble them. (Unless you magnetise the I suppose but thats beyond my skill level.) The £30 Grey Knight box is good because it allows you to to chop and change your team. So you will have a five man team, with five substitutes.

    With the release of 9th edition and Necrons getting a revamp, for $50 you can get the recruit edition starter set. Gets you 10 of the new warriors with different guns, a Royal Warden which can easily be used as an ornate Immortal with a Gauss Blaster for your leader as well as some scarabs, but I don't think you can use them in Kill Team. You also get the Primaris Lt., and 5 intercessors and a small building and board to play on

    6x Pathfinders (6 Points each), some customized to be specialists
