      Thanks for this, Jeff! Believe it or not, until maybe a day or two before I recorded, I actually had this gesture running through the entire 4-bar phrase an octave lower (like you currently hear in the 1st bar at 2:37) - just too many octaves of music for two hands to play. Taking it up the octave in the 2nd and 4th bars (and omitting it entirely from the 3rd) was a last-minute call!

    Hi Brett! Just wanted you to know that, in no small part because of your videos, a week ago I went and I got a keyboard and started dusting off the 20+ years of cobwebs my piano playing had accumulated. When I was a kid I took lessons for a while but was never good at it because I couldnt see the point when guitars existed. Piano always stuck in the back of my mind though as something to try again but I never had the drive because I was a metalhead and piano doesnt fit well in that genre. Then I saw your videos like this one and I finally saw something that made me say "THAT. I want to be able to do THAT." It swam around in my head for months until I finally pulled the trigger.
    FWIW, after just a week of legitimately making an effort to learn, I can do a C+ job of playing the easyish version of the Star Wars Main Theme. I had tried all those years ago to play it, and I remember I couldnt do it at all. Now after a few days I actually felt the left/right hand coordination thing 'click' for me and now I am tearing through it.
    I am quite proud of myself, and I am excited to continue learning. And its in no small part to you! So thank you! My goal is to one day be able to do what you do, so please continue giving us more things to inspire us all!

    Excellent performance! I wonder how you manage to play these pieces from movies on piano. Do you transcribe them and arrange them or you bought the complete score for orchestra and then arrange it to be playable on piano?

    • @brettmitchellconductor
      @brettmitchellconductor  2 года назад +1

      Thanks so much for watching! As for how I do these, it really depends on the project, but often I'm simply transcribing things by ear, then lining them up with film by use of a clock. I read a scan of my transcription from an iPad on the right side of my piano music rack and watch the clock on another iPad on the left side.
