VERY GLAD I ran across this video! I hate hate HATE blindly depending on hidden vacuum actuators that some stoned GMC engineer decided to place under the battery tray. Will definitely implement this cable actuator in my 95 Sonoma! 😀
Sorry to hear your level of ignorance is higher than the average town drunk, buuuuuut you could certainly stfu and learn instead of insulting your superiors like that
great video, I'm thinking of changing my 95 jimmy over to manual. I had concerns about how selecting 4-high and 4-low would take place if bypassed, your video answered my question.... Thank you!
89 s10 blazer and I have replaced everything. Lines and components. Still no front engagement. The front diff is good cause worked and no grind. Going to try this. I'm over it and not paying 150 an hour for a shop. If who reads this just give us the answer. Many arnt rich to pay you 8 hours for a 10 min fix that you'll lie about the repair time. Some arnt stupid. I've worked for ships and quit for that reason "taking advantage"
Thank You For the Location Idea, same hard pull on my 91 4.3 & I even Moved the overflow to the other side so the cable wouldnt bind so much still & still Too Hard
I've got a 92 S10 Blazer 4 wheel drive 5 speed that I'm thinking about making all-wheel drive because I have a transfer case from an astro and of course put a 5-3 in it
the old s10s had the vacuum actuator on the passenger side fender. so all you had to do was manually pull it and put vise grips on it. so the 80s s10s had the same problem you would think they would figure it out that vacuum is not agood idea for any 4x4 system
I came up with a quick easy by pass to restore 4 whd . if vacuum chamber under the battery is ok . mount a 2 port air walve on the dash 1 hose to the vacuum chamber & 1 to a vacuum source .
What if your formal guy switch just flashes does not stay on but goes out when you put it into two hi I have an automatic button for a four-wheel drive
unplug it. and also unplug the vacuum supply line going to the transfer case. then you have one comming back from the t case to the actuator under battery. also check to see if your transfer case is over filled. if it has trans fluid in the lines then the vacuum switch has failed and also the front input seal on the t case has failed allowing trans fuid to get in the t case and overfill it. pop the fill plug on t case and drain out the excess. also check transmission fluid for proper level.
I have a 91 blazer same 4 wheel drive set up but my 4 hi and 4 low light don't work. I've replaced the vaccum actuator. still don't work. have you had this problem?
does the switch light up at all? if not check fuses. might be bad switch. also if it just blinks for a few then goes back off then its the encoder motor on the t case. if it will go into 4lo in neutral but not 4hi its the encoder motor.
Question, I'm having a issue with mine it stays in 2wd wont switch. Was wondering how I could have this done if I cant switch the light on the dash. I Put new dash switch, vacuum actuator on firewall.
Thanks for the info man! I have purchased a 1988 GMC S15 pickup truck and it has this exact same configuration. I just have one question, I hope you can help me. what is the exact process to activate the 4x4? just put the switch on 4 hi and then lock the cable?
Cable is good idea bcz I f you buy a rig that has a lot = too many hot under the hood trips it actually rots the hose and it separates hiddenly to get at places to splice
My father had problems with his 96 S-10 vacuum actuator and home-rigged something like this but to a bracket he welded on the front bumper. I have a 2004 Blazer and my 4x4 isn't working, but my switch and electrical isn't working at all, so I can't operate the transfer case or the vacuum crap. I've tried replacing the 4x4 switch, but it hasn't worked, there is some mysterious wire in the electrical crap to the 4x4 switch on the dash that isn't working. I would like to put a manual control like this one to bypass the vacuum, but I also need a solution to operating the transfer case. Do you know a way to make some sort of manual control on the transfer case as well? Is there someway I could rig some sort of lever or cable for that? Any help is appreciated.
behind passenger side kick panel is your 4x4 module. make sure connections arent corroded. common problem. also if you take the encoder motor off t case and weld/ rig a lever system. you can put a manual 4x4 lever in from a blazer that had manual shift. have to cut hole in floor board tho by your right foot to put in shift lever
@@bam6972 Circumstances changed today, bizarre stuff. My 4wd has never worked or lit up at the switch since I've owned it almost 2 years. I replaced 4x4 switch a month ago and nothing happened. and have checked 4x4 module and checked connections. 4x4 fuse 15 is good. Also, since I've owned the car the interior dome lights haven't worked either. I figured out just today that fuse 8 is the one for this and it was clearly blown. (I didn't really care that much about the dome light so it hasn't been a priority) I replaced fuse 8 today and the dome light came on, but the 4x4 and all its glory did as well. I had 4x4 working correctly all day and the indicator light working too. However, my rear dome light at the trunk area was on all day and wouldn't turn off, In frustration I pushed on the light area (its supposed to only come on when doors open). It suddenly turned off, but the fuse blew and the 4x4 went as well. I am absolutely completely do not understand why fuse 8 dome light fuse (not fuse 15 4wd) is key to my 4wd operation. My fuse is also blowing easily and there must be something in this dome light stuff causing that. I am thinking of unhooking the rear dome light and replacing the fuse again to maybe solve my problem. Any thoughts on this turn of events?
Do you still have 4lo? So this doesn't solve any other issue other than the vacuum system? I'm trying to figure that pile 2004 I have and it is maddening!
@@annabellewolfgang7177 you get low and high gears in the transfer case. the front diff is what drives the front wheels when both the t case and front diff is locked in.

This works like gold every time
what is this manual lever called by name, having difficulty finding one that locks in place as yours does.

Actually it doesn't but ok
I do so appreciate this video

for anyone that has done this how long does the push/pull cable need to be??
ill check fuses and replace the switch. thank you!
I'm doing this to my 03 today
Did you do yours ? How did it go ? Are 2003 still vacuum engaged and not electric ?

Can tou make a guide? You seem to know a lot
What if your formal guy switch just flashes does not stay on but goes out when you put it into two hi I have an automatic button for a four-wheel drive
I do have 1 question for you and that is where did u get that set up from
Do you recall which kit you purchased? Thanks for the video.
it was just a locking push pull control cable. doesn't matter which brand just as long as its long enough and good quality.
Where did you get the cable?
Where did u get the lock cabel
What did you do with the vacuum line that goes there cause mine is throwing out oil

I got it off ebay for about 25 bucks just make sure its a locking push pull cable
hola como called the chicote grabbing the jaladera run the 4x4 screwed even this side of senisero and where the benderan be able to get a autozune
...
mine was 104 inches. i had to cut mine down a bit. get a long one. you can always cut them down to length.
bam6972 hey i got a 2004 4.3L blazer can i do this conversion??
Hi bro, what kind of gear is it? how is called that acc, in order to ask in the shop.
A friend question where did you buy the lever with which you activate the cable?
I got one off of eBay.. Just search push pull cable.
When doing this can I just leave my vacuum lines where they were? Do I need to cap them off?
just cap um

Why do I have to twist it when u put it in 4wd
electric server would be much better. toggle switch on dash. Im looking into it now.
Do u have the link for this kit

What is that wire called
How exactly did you attach cable to cable? And get them to work correctly
used really small wire clamps. tiny u bolt pretty much
Wondering where you got that pull lock system
Oriellys
Help me out on this bro. So i do this conversion and to activate the 4x4 I press 4lo or 4hi than I pull the cable or do I pull it first?
pull it after you push the button.
+bam6972 you're awesome, bro!
Your buttons activate the 4x4, the cable engages/locks the hubs/axles.
What if you're four wheel drive switch has been removed will the push pull cable work
No

YES take that dome light out and unhook it. its shorting in there somewhere.
I know its been 5 years but where did you get the handle and cable at
I know it sucks not getting a replay but if you haven’t found one by now you could probably get them on eBay or Amazon
did you just cap off the 3 hoses that go to the T-case?
Just let them vent.

Im gonna do that to my blazer at some point, now does 4 lo work still?
yes
I have a 03 s10 and 4 low works but when I push 4 high it blinks then goes into 2wd
replace the shift motor aka encoder motor on the side of t case.
Mine does the same thing was it the shift motor?
what length is the cable I ordered a 10' one from AutoZone
that should do
how's yours holding up I just tore all my vac lines out today just waiting on cable
where did you buy your push pull cable?
Danny Courtney can you tell me where to find the push pull cable
How long was the cable 6' or 8'?
i cant remember. i would get the 8 footer and you can cut it down to length
would this work the same on a 2003 s10?
It is the same system, so yes, it should work.
Where can I buy the push pull cable? Please reply
ebay
So if you do this conversion the vaccum system can be gutted out right?
right. you may want to leave the vacuum ball and the small line still intact for the hvac system to work properly.
Plug that Hole Up with a Screw + Electrical Tape.
I did this, but now my front differential keep engange. Help!!
you may have the cable to tight. you need to have the diff cable pushed in tight when not in use. the cable needs pushed towards the diff.
no it doesn't come on at all. but ill check that.
Where do you buy this kit?
bought the cable on ebay. and modified my bracket to work.
I don't understand why i would still need the electric swtich at all...
how can you tell if it's 4 low or 4 high
+Andrew Lowery the switch on the dash still works.
Oh. See mine don't light up.
So once you switch it to 4 lo or hi it'll show it on the dash.
yea whatever button u press that one will light up.
Andrew Lowery
What about 4 hi/lo?
Yikes....
I need the vacume diagram for1985 s10 blazer 4x4 2.8 automatic
oriellys has them just bought one for 54
Where did you get the line?
+kasey smith - They have all types of Line at Auto Zone at the Specialty Section. It's like ALL BRAND Section / Misc kinda thing.
How do you differ 4 low from 4 hi
the switch on the dash still controls that. the cable only locks in the front diff
Front differential, transfer case same thing right... Lol low hi gears in the front diff of course
@@annabellewolfgang7177 you get low and high gears in the transfer case. the front diff is what drives the front wheels when both the t case and front diff is locked in.
@@bam6972 yikes lol
Is there a way I can just lock it in and leave it locked in? It's a trail rig now.
pull the cable out and put a pair of vice scripts on it.
They sell a Cable that actually locked in when you want with a bit of twist :)
Can someone put the link for the cable set up
Like where to buy it
Joshua Murphy u ever find it
Why not just upgrade to the Bravada shaft? Far simpler and no cable.
im pretty sure the gear ratios are different in the bravada. if you swap the diff
this doesn t convert your transfer case to manual
please help lol.
