    I'm a disabled man, and I have to say that Marx's most valuable contribution in my opinion was his explanation of the alienation that technology and current modes of production force upon us. For example, I need my electric wheelchair to live and work, what it is at the same time when isolates me most from others.

    I love how every few years or more, people have to declare Marx dead (and Marxism, socialism, communism as well).
    As long as capitalism is still around, as long as there is exploitation of the working masses, Marx will remain relevant. You see this during every economic crisis, Marx's books see higher sales.

    I think a country should have a mixed economic system with equal importance to Capitalist and Marxist policies. I admire the fact that the US is a tech powerhouse today because of its Capitalist policies. But, I also envy Sweden or Denmark which takes care of its citizens like a mother takes care of it's newborn. I don't know how can this mix can be achieved, nor do I know anything about economics. However, the sky-high prices of health care in the US or the opioid crisis and the condition of Venezuela is a proof that concentrating on only one side is not good.

      The condition of people in the US shows otherwise. Day in and day out we are bombarded with news of homeless people in the US, which is supposed to be a grand example of "economic freedom". Also, if I am not wrong the standards of living in the Scandinavian countries and Switzerland is highest, which practice some form of Marxism.
      By "taking care", I mean free education, healthcare, etc. Of course, nothing is "free" in this world. You pay it from your taxes. But, I like the concept of the taxes being put to "good use" for it's citizens.
      Another factor that comes into the picture is the fact that, I am not a citizen of any Western or EU nation. So, my definition of "taking care" would differ.

      The usa is survival of the richest. And is not even a democracy. It is an oligarchy. The only reason your companies are that big is because the government does not have any power over the American companies. They dont even pay taxes. You dont even have government healthcare. You even left medecine prices to the free market. Insuline costs 300 dollars for 4 pens in the usa. Same brand is free in the uk..That is a medical cost of 1200 dollar a month if your diabetic in the us of a. You should be ashamed for that as an american i think.

    Highly relevant as all modern sociology and anthropology originates thanks to Marx's historic materialism analysis in Das Kapital. Even, the short and simple Communist Manifesto has had its impact as most of what it professed has already been accomplished in most of the world, such as the 48 hour work week as max., no child labor, medical and social security, etc. etc. Yet, social philosophy has moved ahead and advanced beyond Marx.

    • @Symbrio
      @Symbrio 6 лет назад +2

      again, total misinterpretation. your examples have nothing to do with marx. the work time reduced because of technological advances and ever more application of automation (since 1st and even more since 2nd industrial revolution) and better machinery that reduced the need for manual labor force. you can see it even more clearly today through "home-work offices" that allow you to work from home through the use of the internet. plus the productivity is constantly on the rise, which reduced the work time even more. i must work (due to nature of my job) f.e. almost 100h per week and live in a social sensible country, so your marx-explanation doesn't hold the water. child labor was unfortunate necessity since birth control methods weren't available back in the days, and in order to feed your family almost every member had to contribute with work. for example in yugoslawia back in the 50s and 60s child labor was very common thing (even under 6y olds have worked) and it was communist/socialist state. public services were available before marx even existed. as for the medical/social security, because it isn't market driven, but state controlled it is highly expensive art of service. if it were to be privatised it would quickly find a way to free market where its services would drastically lower the prices through tough competition. remove the marxistic protectionism known as patent license on medication, and the top medical services would quickly be widely available. so, there you have it. marx is only relevant to remind the people that marxist ideology was complete failure which killed over 100 million people (more than all other ideologies/philosophies combined), spawning the most vicious and vile humans known (hitler, stalin, lenin, mao zedong, pol pot, kim il sung and his successors, josip broz tito, fidel castro, che guevara, mengistu haile mariam...)

    Carl Marx's criticism of Capitalism helps explain why Climate Change is a success. It is a pity that he did not talk more about the lack of sustainability and environmental decline that a growing Capitalist society produces. Unrestricted growth is not possible in a climate constrained world. Britain has outgrown it's capacity to support itself. Similarly, the EU needs to cap the population, stop all immigration and immediately deport illegal immigrants. It is having a knock on effect in Britain. The numbers of legal and illegal immigrants coming into Britain from Europe has created a population and sustainability crisis. Western Europe has the same problem. Stop growing and introduce more restrictive population and immigration laws.

      @@paulgray9084 capitalism has proven to me a much greater disaster for "real life" with the millions left in heavy debt and poverty which can simply be caused in America by having to have a leg or heart operation. It's a system that also enables the top one per cent of society to pay either very little tax or no tax at all. In the past it forced children of orphanages to work up to 14 hours with maybe one 15 minute break. It's a too unstable system that goes boom and bust and causes economic problems which history has proven to be fact and who suffers the most? Not those who overly spent and borrowed but the working class whos work suffers through pay cuts or loss of job which leads to further debts and stress on top of the stress caused by simply working to survive. It's whole way of surviving is constantly revolutionising the means of production and constantly changing a product into money which is again changed back into money which creates the I'm alright Jack mentality which further creates exploitation and alienation of the working class. Capitalism has great ability to adapt to problems that it creates and forces people to sell their labour power to boring meaningless jobs instead of fulfilling their skills and dreams. Instead it chains everyone even those who benefit from capitalism because they are constantly concerned about how to keep making money and if are business owners are constantly having said business on their minds and buying goods to help progress and build their status in a society built on false consciousness and too many contradictions which again lead to recessions. American capitalists in particular have at times expressed views on basically killing people who's views are in opposition to theirs which to me just sounds like facism. Putting profit above people is just unhealthy for your own mental wellbeing as well as spreads toxicity into your environment
