    That 2.5 L five cylinder motor was the best motor Volvo ever made?

    Clean the positive connections at the fusebox as well.

    You only paid $700 for it and that's all you needed to do to fix the misfire?! You just keep getting lucky with this truck!

      So far yes! But it'll be a little more with the timing belt and PCV system and some other stuff I have planned. Definitely should be a very reasonable overhaul by the time I'm done though!

    Hi.
    Awesome video.
    did you notice the sparking from coil no. 3 on startup (14:41 an on).
    There's a lot of sparking going on.
    Just in case you haven't seen it.
    Great video :-)

      Thanks for watching!
      And wow I had missed that! Good catch, I have to go check on that. Since the connectors are in bad shape I know I need to change the harness eventually, but I will deal with it if it's still happening. Thanks for bringing it up!

      I checked today, and it's no longer an issue! Turns out it was the coil itself arcing to ground, and I replaced that coil (in part 3!). All the wires on that harness look good. Thanks again!

    Our 3.2 i-6 has an intermittent " single" misfire.......ughh....feels like a hiccup. Replaced coil pack.still does it.sometimes doesn't do it at all.sometimes it does it slightly more frequently and sometimes it just hiccups once......has no rhyme or reason whether its park drive or a/c is on or off.cant feel it driving.only at idle.....

    Looks like a wiring loom problem also there was a lot of sparks coming from the 2 or 3 coil area you can see as soon as it is started

    Nice work 👍. What scan tool and bore scope are you using?

    • @frenchineer
      @frenchineer  2 года назад +1

      Thanks! The scan tool is an Autel MaxiSys, and the boroscope is a Teslong MS450 (very useful with the SD card for recording images and video).

    14:42 Who else can see the sparks on top of the engine? So that means the energy for at least one spark plug winn never reach it.

    • @frenchineer
      @frenchineer  Год назад +1

      Yes this was an issue! I replaced that coil in part 3, so it's no longer a problem.

    Are you able to tell that the engine doesn't change in sound when you disconnect cylinder coil ?

    • @frenchineer
      @frenchineer  9 месяцев назад

      If you remove a good coil, you'll definitely be able to tell since the engine will sound different and the idle may be affected. If the coil was already bad nothing should change.

    Just had cylinder 4 misfire on me, what tools did you use to get to the coils? I got to go out and buy them

    • @frenchineer
      @frenchineer  10 месяцев назад +1

      You would need a set of torx bits (inlcuding T30) and some metric sockets at the very least. There are tool kits that include that and more.

    What kind of engine is installed in this XC90? I have a 2011 XC90 with the 3.2L inline 6-cylinder. It looks like mine, but I have no idea what kind of engine you are working on.

    • @frenchineer

      This is the 2.5L inline 5 cylinder. It does look really similar!

      Good catch! I've since done the timing belt service and VVT solenoid/gaskets. I didn't notice any problems with that gear while working on that stuff, but I'll have to keep it in mind in case!

    How many spark plugs & coil packs needed for a 3.2 please 6 or 4

    • @frenchineer
      @frenchineer  Год назад +1

      The 3.2 in a Volvo XC90 is a 6 cylinder, so you would need 6 if you want to replace all of them.
