    ONe thing MW could feel proud of, is how she says here that at that time she wished she’d had more education.. before she passed away she did attain a college degree. That’s a great thing to be proud of

    This was one of the best interviews. Nobody helped Florence. It wasn’t just Diana.

      It all goes back to that night, when someone violated her! It completely changed her; Mary & Diana were not doctors that they could help Flo. Hollywood can be brutal ! Love this upload! Been a SUPREMES fan since 1965!! 💅💅💅

    One of the rare Interviews in which Mary is being made to take responsibility for something regarding Florence Ballard's end in the group. Its always Diana this and Diana that.

      Mary made to take responsibility for Florence's departure??? Mary WARNED Flo that her behavior was giving BG and DR all reason to want her out and Flo even states she was warned by Mary on the audio recordings with Peter Benjamin. Mary had a job to do and preserve. She couldn't control Flo. Flo wanted out and Cindy was in.

      @@s.rhockenhull1168 True but at the end Flo wanted to stay in the group, something Mary forgot to mention to BG and DR. As time went on after Flo’s death during the next decades Mary flip flops in her books and interviews blaming Flo for her firing then she blames Berry and Flo. Finally she blames Berry and Diana from that point on til the day she died. So you tell me, even though Flo before she died said she takes some responsibility for her downfall and firing from the group while never blaming Diana for what went down.

    Mary had all that episode about rehearsing Cindy in hotel rooms in her first book so there's no surprise there, Mary kept telling Flo to straighten up and pay them (Gordy and Ross) no mind because Diana would be leaving soon, she warned Flo they were gonna put her out, Mary was there to talk about the Supreme Faith book, Joan was trying to reference Tony Turner's book and Mary was having none of it, I don't know why Joan didn't bring that up when she was on the first time, I knew Tony He told me a lot of what he said in his book in 1977

    Joan really put Maryon the spot asking her is she trained Cindy Birdsong secretly in a hotel room and Mary almost got caught up but managed to dodge the question.

    • @Tes7000
      @Tes7000 11 месяцев назад +3

      Mary should have answered the question directly. It is not like she had a choice in the matter. She tried motivating Florence to get herself back together to continue on in the group, but that didn't work.
      Also, I know from reading Tony Turner's book that Florence knew that Motown was looking to replace her.

    Do you have Tony Turner on Joan Rivers promoting All that Glittered?

    • @brockreynolds870
      @brockreynolds870 Год назад

      Tony Turner kept blabbering about how Flo was being called "fat", when she wasn't. That was just Berry's undiplomatic way of trying to get her to lose weight. Was Flo fat in 1967? NO, she wasn't. But she DID gain 15-20 pounds, and went from a size 10 to a size 12, and suddenly, you have 100,000$ worth of stage costumes that don't fit her anymore. THAT was the problem. Then they had to keep wearing the Empire waisted chiffon gowns which were more forgiving in that department.

    • @Tes7000
      @Tes7000 11 месяцев назад

      @@brockreynolds870 All That Glittered was poorly written but a whole lot of fun to read. I lost my copy years ago, but I am inclined to order another one.
      Mary Wilson talked in Supreme Faith about Cindy Birdsong having the same issue with weight gain. I fully understand that artists have to be able to fit reliably in their costumes, but I also think this issue should have been anticipated. Some of those gowns should have had some strategically-placed elastic just in case. They could have also focused more on accessories -- jewelry, beaded and sequined scarves, belts, capes, and detachable skirts -- while being able to keep some of the gowns themselves less expensive and more easy to replace.

    Mary used Flo's death as a career opportunity....and she was dishonest...

  • @malcolmmarshall5946

    In one passage from her last book, Mary shamelessly gloated that fans at a 1990s concert yelled "Mary, thank you for Florence!" Very, very tacky, Mary. But she was looking for money. I think Florence was an everyday, neighborhood gal, which is very charming. She couldn't handle the stress, fame and politics.

    • @Tes7000
      @Tes7000 11 месяцев назад

      I was surprised that Florence's cousin said, in her Unsung special, that Florence actually understood her role in her dismissal from The Supremes and might have done things differently in retrospect. Once out of the group, I am sure Florence had time to reflect and also get more information than she had while in the group.
      I read that it was Diana who was supposed to leave the group in 1967. Berry Gordy had paved the way in 1966 by renaming the group Diana Ross and The Supremes, which was his way of ensuring that he would have two marketable entities charting and touring at the same time. Florence was obviously going to be the lead singer after Diana left, but Florence's problems precipitated her exit, and Florence's exit forced to Diana to stay in the group a couple more years. There was no way Motown was going to replace Diana and Florence in the same year. I am sure Florence realized all of this years after she left the group.
      In reality, I am not sure it was Motown that actually destroyed Florence. She was definitely hurt to be fired from the group, but what actually sent her into a talespin was that her entire settlement check from Motown was stolen by her lawyer. Said settlement was about $160k.
      Without getting ripped off, I am sure Florence would have at least paid off the mortgage to her house. In retrospect, it is amazing that Florence held on to the house for as many years as she did before losing it in foreclosure. She never really had a chance to recover from leaving the group before she had to contend with major financial and legal problems.

    Mary kept avoiding the question and like I said before Mary wrote this because she needed money and she made off of Diana and Florence. This liar should be ashamed of herself but she has passed on so truth always comes one way or another.

      WHY would she let all these other strangers write books? SHE was a founding member and was there from 1959 till 1977. What did you expect her do in 1967 when Flo fell apart and HER position was jeopardized ? 1967 was not 2022 where there was NO help for people for people who went through what Flo had. What would you have done? You would have done the same. Trained her replacement. They dont call it "show BIZ" by accident.

    This is the first time that I learned that Mary Wilson coached Cindy Birdsong. So Mary Wilson knew beforehand, well beforehand that Flo was going to be thrown out of the group. Now that does go along with Mary Wilson’s personality but I didn’t know Mary Wilson was in that deep with Berry Gordy and Diana Ross to force out Flo Ballard. Awful, traitorous.

      Florence knew Motown was looking to replace her, even if she didn't know all the details. Mary had no choice but to train Cindy, and Mary tried to motivate Florence to get herself together to keep her position in the group.
