• BEST FIVE MINUTE ABDOM...
The biggest thing I learned when sparring was you can be in great cardio shape but if you don’t do a lot of boxing specific workouts your shoulder endurance will fail you before your cardio haha
Interesting, I intend to get into boxing myself and all pro and amateur boxers have told me that maintaiming stamina over 8 to 12 rounds is more important than anything else. I've even heard a wrestler tell me that having stamina for boxing was much harder than wrestling.
@@mrt445very interesting, I think your body will always adapt and become efficient. A boxer would find wrestling much harder and taxing because their body isn't efficient with that kind of movement yet and same thing vise versa
@@Jordancheddar nah fam,boxers are Elite
@@mrt445 it’s not harder but anything that’s what you’re not used to is gonna feel harder
@@Jordancheddar I actually think wrestling would be easier because it's more of a natural sport, you can always go all out when wrestling against someone. Punching someone and having the chin to withstand blows to the head and body whilst having the stamina to go 12 rounds is more taxing on the body because it's not natural.
Did 30 minutes of "boxing" training with my dad. Felt like I was gonna pass out afterwards. I was just hitting pads not even getting hit lol and I'm lighter than I have been but still it's so hard. That's why I love watching boxers because you have no idea how much stamina it takes to go 3 minutes let alone 12 rounds. Great advice bro
Yup conditioning and learning how to breathe efficiently is the key when starting out. You can learn stances, movement, punches but it means nothing if you gas out in a min
It takes a lot of stamina if u make it take that much if all 12 rounds y’all going at it hard then yeah it’s a lot
coach back in high school on the track trained us jog for 3 minutes at a pace of about 5 miles per hour breathing through your nose only, then he would have us walk for 1 minute taking slow deep breaths through mouth only, to condition your mind on proper breathing technique 10 sets 4 times a week, it was good for me then, it's still good for me today and I'm 62
3 rounds is hard💯
12 rounds is insane..idk how they do it😂
@@tribeofbenjamin6 yep lol.
Tip for beginners, just step in the Gym nothing will happen, you will learn everything with time and discipline 🖤🙏🏼
Not true, I see countless newbies show up to the gym just to get their ass beaten by someone who’s been there for ages. Then they never want to come back
@@ragnar930 thats the coach and the boxers fault, when a new guy steps into our gym, they treat him nice, you can never know what talent hidden in people, also fighter are usually full of discipline and they will not show their power to a new guy, if thats what they doing at your gym, then you need to switch theres a lack of confidence and discipline there, in our club no one will ever use his power against someone with no knowledge, even if the coach hear that you had just a brawl on the street you get kicked out

Another thing that is overlooked is just simple calisthenics. Days you arent running push ups and pull ups can be a great way to build some baseline form of strength and muscle to those guys who havent really been that active before.
EXCELLENT point about practicing the wrong techniques. It sounds counter intuitive but so true
Much appreciated 🥊📈💪🏼
While i dont box, this is so relevant to weightlifting. That muscle memory and incorrect motor pattern is hard to fix
I truly believe that this is the best advice someone gave on this topic
I only do half a mile everyday when I can , and I can still do boxing yes I'm tired but I still keep going .
bro is hella good at these videos super understandable and relatable
I'm very confident in my form cos I watched multiple videos frame by frame analysing every single detail. Only part I fucked up is my stance, I'm a right hand dominant southpaw but I make it work.
Still tryna correct it tho
Is this a joke or what 😂😂😂

The point about the muscle memory and throwing 10000 wrong punches is so valid, and can imagine so many do exactly what he's just said, you don't wanna have to be untraining bad habits before you can learn even the basics
Control your emotions and try to be calm. I seen ripped guys not last 2 rounds because of anxiety.
My technique was good before I started going to gym. My coaches didn't believe that I had never gone to a boxing gym

This is my new personal boxing trainer, he just don't know it yet. See you when I pull up with my gear Coach V.
Unfortunately quit boxing few years ago due to boredom, thinking of making a comeback soon
Boredom is because you need new sparring partners
Just go to the gym it doesn't matter what shape you're in and hit a bag. All you want. It doesn't matter. The gym is where you will learn better technique and get in better shape. That's the point of training in a gym. If you have a good coach and the guys in the gym have real experience, they will match your conditioning in sparring, and the coach will fix your technique over time. Having enough heart to walk through the doors of a gym and train is the main thing you need. It's just the gym. It's not a place where you go to compete in a real fight it's a place where you train and get better. Once your conditioning catches up to your activity and your skills are better and you can hold your own in sparring against the guys who already compete, then you can compete as well.
Guys, don’t be put off if you’re not ‘fit’. Book that first session and it will teach you discipline like you couldn’t imagine (if you have a good coach.) My coach always says the fitness will come (we do 2x fitness sessions a week and minimum 1x practise). Don’t feel like you need to be an athlete to start boxing!
Ay keep this straight to the point style in your vids man very refreshing
Brilliant thank you.....preparing to start boxing training for fitness...definitely feel i made the right choice....

Thank you appreciate this. Planning on starting boxing in collage definitely going to be implementing this into my training
okay Im starting boxing at 40. I will do all you said 😎
You need base cardio. You get that from running 4-5 miles a day 3-4 days a week heading toward 6-minute miles. Base cardio is your heart working at 60-70% of its max.
If you don’t have good base cardio, then you’re constantly dipping into your anaerobic reserve, which lasts 1-2 minutes. If that’s gone by round 1 or 2, you’re finished. Your anaerobic threshold is around 90% of you max heart rate. It’s like your own nitric oxide. You have it, and if you burn it out, then you’re back to driving well under the speed limit if you’re not dispatched sooner. Oxygen cannot replenish it, which is why it’s called anaerobic.
You also have to train boxing specific, which is higher intensity-near your anaerobic threshold and in your anaerobic zone, which 70-90% of max heart rate. You have to learn how to sprint so to speak (high output with power, active footwork, etc.) without going beyond you anaerobic threshold. You have to get used to being in that 70-90% range, because boxing demands it and your output is high but maintainable. Below your anaerobic threshold are various aerobic zones. You want to operate as high in intensity aerobically as possible, because your output is high but your body can still take in oxygen to clear out the lactic acid to keep you at that intensity if you’re in shape.
But the more you can stay out of your anaerobic zone, the more gas you have in the tank for when you need to go all out.
At 55, trainers just trained me for an hour at 145 beats per minute when my max was 165. That’s essentially keeping me right under my anaerobic max.
Bad idea. Because they just assumed everyone could run 3 miles at an 8-mph pace, I had no gas to spar well. I needed to use my anaerobic system just to keep up with a basic workout.
You need the base, which is what Coach is talking about, and your boxing-gym workout will be in the 70-95/100% range.
But you have to be able to master the 3 miles I’d say at least at an 8-9 mph pace. That’s a good indicator.
@@clemfarley7257 I'm 41. Tell me about your starting experience and your story so far man. Inspire me I bought my first gloves today to take the plunge.
You’ll be great. How old are you and what kind of shape are you in? What are you looking for?
I found out part of my lung is collapsed and my aorta artery is torturous, meaning a little kinked. I’m 57, too. So I have a ceiling you might not have.
Try some running 3x a week. A mile or 2 and see how you feel. Ultimately work up to 30-45 minutes, and the pace hopefully gets to a 7-minute mile. But it’s not written in stone. 5 miles at 10 minutes sounds good to me. That gives you a cardio base. You can stay a little busy without gassing out.
Skip rope before your session. Try for 3 rounds. Take breaks during the round if you need to but work toward no breaks other than the 30 seconds between rounds. Boxing gyms have a timer. This also gives you a cardio base-the ability to hang in without gassing.
3 rounds of shadow. Focus on form and technique. Do everything right even if it’s slower or simple. Don’t cheat on rotation.
Lately I listen to a RUclips video for combos on the heavy bag for 6-12 rounds. You could work the bag on your own-most do. For example, round 1 focuses on the jab. Round 2, the jab-cross combo. Round 3, add in the lead hook. Maybe a round on outside fight. A round on the inside. A round with feints and movement and slips and weaves. Be creative as with shadowing.
I like the double-end bag and slip line. With all of this, remember to move your end and to think about what’s coming back at you.
As time goes on there are weights, sprints, HIIT training, pad work, sparring. You get a feel.
As you develop and get in shape you’ll improve a lot. Make sure a guy who knows the basics spends time with you on throwing punches and rotating. Also, you initially should spar with someone much much better than you are. He’ll let you get work in and not give you a concussion.
But sparring is the best way to see how your cardio is. All the above develops cardio, but you have to play with it a bit, and in the ring you see whether you got it right.

This was great advice. I have been self learning for 2 years while training hard. I improved significantly and I seem to have the mechanic of the majority movements down but also am afraid of habits I may of made. My learning was purely visual and by critiquing my shadow boxing through comparison. Would you have your fighter train from scratch at this point?

Muscle memory doesn’t exist. What people mean to say is alpha motor neurons and gamma motor neurons , gamma motor neurons keep muscle tightened or lengthened and alpha neurons supplies the muscle it’s power. But I understand your ideology that if you through punches without the proper technique, you will have a hard time adjusting to do it properly, but with proper guidance, patience, and intelligence of the forms and positions etc etc, a person will be able to through punches correctly sooner than you think
Came across this randomly. You can apply this advice to Muay Thai and kickboxing as well
Thanks man so simple and straight forward. Earned a new sub🔥
Good advise. I would also add to condition your arm cause after two or three rounds with the gloves on, there're going to feel like cement blocks.. 😀

Coach. Ive wanted to start boxing since last year at 15 years old. But my parents are having financial issues currently so i was losing fat and went from 107kgs to 90kgs cureently. Ive also been self teaching myself boxijg by watching videos from former boxers and pros because im 16 now and im not sure if i should continue self teaching or just focus on fitness. But i my families financial issues will be over probably by August which is only 2 months away. So should i keep self teaching myself or must i just focus on my fitness and stamina at this point
most of the people I sparred when I used to box had no foot work after they developed the footwork from me cuz coach never showed us taught us foot work he believed or believes in pressure fighting techniques but after a while the coach I had took some of my skills and taught them even though he never told me he admired my fighting skills I think he did but I guess he was envious or to prideful cuz he never wanted to give me a fight and I had enough experience to fight after the the opponents had footwork it was hard to land a punch I was like dammit now we both got footwork and it's gonna be difficult to land a punch on each other hit don't get hit style fuck the rest but I believe once I see that your opponent is getting tired or cornered then u can pressure fight
I have been training boxing since I was 7 years I started in karate 🥋 gym but I preferred boxing over it because it couldn’t help me in my street fights but since then I started to learn boxing by my own watching videos sparing with my friends now i am 22 years and still this is my favourite sport ever I wish I could join a boxing club but I couldn’t coz of my school then my university took all my time but I will try to join boxing club and spar with a good professional boxer just to check my level because I believe I have a good cardio a good skills even a good defence every day I train at least 2-4 hours since I was 7 years I don’t remember that I have missed a day

I don't know what kind of voice I expected from a talking hammerhead shark but black jive talking sneaker reseller was a big surprise. I can't even take the video seriously now.
Also just to point this out.
You can still hit hard while using the wrong technique, so don't be offended.
Just because your punch has power, doesn't mean the technique is right though.
When all people think about is power, usually the first thing that suffers is defence and defence is part of that technique.
Punching speed is just as much about the retraction of the arm as it is the extension. Unless you like being countered.
You may be leaving yourself open, not finishing in the right position or doing some silly telegraph that's going to just make it twice as hard to land clean
and easier for your opponent to time you.
As someone who taught himself how to box/fight... I can tell you that trainers can't even be bothered to try and fix all of my mistakes.
They'd rather invest that time into a clean slate and train someone younger.
I still improve on my own and with sparring partners but it takes twice as long and a lot of self reflection and honesty.
Dont do this Haircut before you going to Boxing Gym but when you go Too StarTrek Con than this Haircut îs on Point hahahaha
😂😂😂😂😂😂
I think it's best to just join right away. Sure jogs and skipping might help, but without being part of the gym you might not find the motivation to do these regularly.
I think these are all great tips but should be treated as the ideal as opposed to something that is essential before starting. Just because a lot of people who are starting may be doing it as their first venture into any kind of sport and may be lacking in confidence or the self esteem to start taking things into their own hands. They may need to just be included and built up with encouragement and the fitness will follow.
The fawn from the chronicles of narnia and Hugh Jackman must've gotten involved to make this guy
I can jump rope for almost 15 mins straight with a 1lb pound rope, and workout for at least 2 hours straight without sitting down to rest, but I can’t run 2 miles yet.
Any tips to help improve this quick?
That's a great start what I would do is map out a 3 mile run 1.5 miles from your front door and make it you turn. Even if you have to walk off and on do that every other day and use a running app and time your performance after about about 15 running sessions you should see a drastic improvement in your time!
@@coachv3436 Awesome. Thanks coach. I appreciate the quick response. I’m going to do this for real. Sometimes I’m afraid to stop while running, and walk off like you suggested, because I think I’m cheating myself and have to do it all over again, lol. But I’m definitely going what you suggested now.
By the way, I’m over 30 and the young guys say I’m fast and “in good shape” cuz I never stop, lol. I can also run at least 1.1 miles without breathing through my mouth one time (at around 8.35 pace), but I know I need to do way better than that.

Run, run and run some more.
I got the conditioning down as I bodybuild and cycle 5-6x and maybe on the weekend I want to try boxing. I do train abs like 3x a week but I never really jumped rope.
This is really good advice
Word of advice...to mainly people who are afraid to get hit, because I've had alot of people come through the dojo/gym that I train at that are like this..
1. If you have told the coach/sensei/teacher and students that you are afraid to get hit and you just get absolutely belted....get the hell out of that Gym and never go back, you'll never get comfortable taking a punch if you are just getting bombs dropped on you.
2. It takes time, don't compare yourself to other students in terms of being comfortable in a fight setting. Everyone Is different, that's why you're at the gym....to learn.
3. Don't get discouraged if you get hit, that's exactly how we better ourselves, and is the whole point of sparring...we find our weaknesses and our strong points and we work on both to create that all round strength.
Remember, You don't have to be great to start...but you have to start to be great.
And also HANDS UP! 😁
Im so down to join a boxing or mma sesh.. I know a little from learning off youtube and boxing at home.. The evil spirits are manifesting heavily out here.. Ive come across a lot of guys who want to start something with me for no reason and im sick of it..
Definitely a good idea. Check out my online course it goes over everything step by step and give you some extra work to do from home!

Good advice there Caesar.
I definitely can’t run 3 miles or jump rope. I use to power lift for a few years and when I was a teenager I was a skateboarder. Have bad knees at 28 but I use to box a little bit with my dad back when I was a kid. Whole family comes from boxers and I mainly want to do this to get into shape
Tbh, this is a bit extra for me. I would say is just be ready to learn, you don't gotta do anything cuz all the stam and conditioning is gonna improve through your learning. Most importantly have a good mindset. Don't go to the gym thinking you're gonna knockout your first sparring partner.
Thanks for the info Smack Lavine

- Able to run 3 miles
- Work on Abs everyday
- Jumping rope every other day
Nice man.
So bad to suggest to do abs more than once a day, or even once a day tbh… unless your training volume is really low, it’s just not sensible in the slightest and will just fatigue you. Every muscle group should be trained every other day so they can rest…
@@tomhardy116 abs recover faster than any other muscle group, so it’s fine to do it every day. Definitely not the other muscles tho
@@QuiteStupid73 Yeah they are 💯 but if your intensity is high, then it’s not sensible irrespective of how quickly abs recover. The same premise with training every day, you’re really supposed to have at least 1 rest day a week so your body can rest - saying to new boxers that training abs every day is good is misleading, because it isn’t. If you train them every other day then you can maintain that for a substantial time but if you train them every single day, you’re likely to need 1-2 rest days a week because that’s simply too much volume to allow for recovery.
Although like I said it’s dependant on intensity. I do callisthenics as well as boxing and if I do a session with a lot of dragon flags and human flags I need a days rest after.
@@tomhardy116 That's true but as a guy who wants to get into boxing most of us newbies aren't gonna be doing something as godly as what you can do with human flags
