Knitting a Lining for a Single Motif to Protect the Floats

This video shows how to knit a lining to cover the floats of a single motif. It would be applicable to all knitting machines; I have knitted this sample on an SK280 by Silver Reed.

before i cast off i make the last row slightly bigger so it is easier to cast off.

Can you just knit another panel same yarn as motif swatch and crochet them together for eg for a baby blanket ?
