That is totally what Army basic training is like. Ft. Benning where they train infantrymen is a little more hardcore, at least back then it was. But they will still have a heart to heart if a recruit is at their breaking point. I hear it's way more chill now though. The haunted house comment is really on the nose, I mean USMC drill instructors even follow an entire script that they have to recite.
@@joelglanton6531 to be honest with you though, giving people a position like drill sergeant is a recipe for abuse. I mean you literally have to run around and shit on dumbasses all day. Trying to quit in basic training just means you’re gonna be the last one to leave. You’re going to be there so much longer if you try to quit then if you just go through with it.
Ha the story of Shane quitting is dead on. I went there and that’s exactly how it is. All those guys yelling at him were other cadets who hated being there too. But they had to play the part because their military grade and class rank depended on it. I had to do Beast cadre and it sucked, just like everything else there. So when someone quits, that’s exactly how we’d react most of the time.
What’s crazy is the fact that this story even though it’s barely a story basically sums up the situation of the us military. Do you know that they had to completely restructure the way drill sergeants are trained. No one wanted to go and get yelled at all day for a living. Basically all patriotism is lost when you hate your commanding officer more than the enemy whoever they are. Anybody who was is was in the military didn’t want to stay. There’s a vice video on it y’all should check it out
You've never been in the military. You have to get yelled at so you're used to following your training when your environment becomes stressful, e.g. in combat. They changed it up so bad, even USMC drills just follow a literal script now, and morale, unit cohesion, and readiness have never been worse.
I've found that you can only trust a man in combat as far as you can push him in training. So this soft approach... It will fail when it counts. People who don't understand this immediately never will.
Yeah you don't understand the military, military training, discipline, etc. Prior to drill instructors getting neutered by the "my feelings are EVERYTHING" generation, our military was regarded as THE best trained and prepared military in the world. The way drill instructors drilled cadets in the past was the best (and only) way to prepare recruits to be able to function on a battlefield. Doing anything under fire is the most stressful situation, and instructors would try and get recruits as stressed as possible so they learn how to handle it. That "abuse" by DI's saved countless lives and 99% of soldiers in the army or marines easily realize this (most are smart enough to understand this as it's happening) ESPECIALLY those who have experienced combat and they are GRATEFUL that instructor effectively prepared them for when their life (and the lives of their buddies) is on the line. Soldiers who come out of basic now are considerably more mentally weak/fragile and therefore considerably worse soldiers. (Not to mention the lowering of all physical training standards to accommodate the weakest link in the chain).
You should watch Band of Brothers. Their "instructor" was downright sadistic bully and universally hated. One of the men (ironically one that goes on to become an officer in army intelligence) points out that the evil instructors training is "brilliant". The results are a matter of history. Easy Company, 101st airborne, in WW2 was not only one of the most decorated companies in the European theater, but those original recruits all stood out. Every one promoted at least up the NCO chain. They were at d day, market garden, and were in the heart of the Battle of the Bulge and every time those men stood up and performed heroically. Because after what they went thru in training, they could face anything.
I loved how they put a cameo of Marcus Luttrel next to Marky Mark in the movie. Dude is a brick shithouse and Mark Wahlberg looks like a kid sitting next to his dad.
Very odd how they got an actor known for being short to portray a massive 6’ 5” guy. I know he’s not exactly a famous figure, so having them resemble each other isn’t imperative, but a size difference that large is definitely gonna affect the story.
I honestly think that you should be working with Matt and Shane if you are not doing that yet. Because you are already doing a great job with their content, based on my experience.
