2011 Volkswagen Jetta SEL Review, Walkaround, Exhaust, & Test Drive

- In Volkswagen's quest for higher sales numbers, the company has decided to give us a bigger, cheaper, and more spacious Jetta for 2011. It may not be what the VW faithful wanted, but American consumers seemed to have responded well, with it quickly becoming the brands best-selling model. We especially like the 2013 updates, if you're in the market for a compact sedan with a large back seat and baby Audi-looks, make sure you check one out. Although, we would advise you to avoid the base Jetta S trim.

I do like your reviews but it feels like even if you like something you're very nonchalant about it. I can imagine you saying, "overall this Ferrari has a good acceleration and as I do over 300 mph I feel a buzzing from the engine that I don't particularly enjoy."
You do the best reviews. Awesome. Keep it up.
Loving these daily videos!
you covered more of the items I would look for personally. thanks.
Great review man!
Yes, that will be filmed soon. We just posted the editorial review on it. The actual one year on the GTI is this month.
I dont mind the plastic dashboard. Its not like I would be touching the dashboard the whole time im in the car?
blahblahblah hahaha well when you buy the top of the line trim for 25k+, you start to expect some quality.
Please let me know how much for GT I

Can u please do a review on the 2014 jetta se with connectivity and sunroof because of tbe new 1.8turbo
lol, 2016 seemed like a huge year back in 2013.. look where we are now :P

I like it! My uncle has a 2012 Jetta TDI and loves it...he gets an honest and true 55mpg on the highway. Very fun to drive. Cant wait for the 170hp 1.8t to come! Sofyan said 150...its 170hp
good job guys
Corrections, you get all four automatic windows even on the base and the seats are 60/40 folding
i actually really like the sound of 5 cyl you think you can do a review on an Autobahn edition?
Hey, I was wondering, if possible, could you do a review of the chevy sonic?
Nice Review Of 2011 Volkswagen Jetta SEL 😁
Is that retro Mustang in the background reviewable? Maybe you can do a comparison to the current one?
are you planning on having an update video on your gti?
Any chance of a review of the Mazda CX-5 base with the 6-speed? That type of mpg in a vehicle that good looking with a manual are almost too good of a package to pass up. Thanks.
Feel like it’s a good entry level/beginner/daily German car. The 2.5l has been really reliable for me and sounds nice with an AEM short ram intake and AWE exhaust. Interior can be MUCH nicer if you upgrade ALOT of parts. Vw does cheap out on these Jettas, but there is a lot of OEM+ trim parts you can swap in as well as nice aftermarket parts to make it look and feel a little bit more premium. I wish I woulda opted for an SEL or GLI or even a more loaded SE to start with but even then would still want to upgrade a lot of parts to make it look nicer. These cars may not be race cars but they are nice entry level cruisers that are fun to mod
The 2.5 5 cylinder Jetta is much more reliable than the TSI turbo 4 cylinders. Those are pretty bad engines. The 2.5 also sounds amazing but it's even better with a manual.
Those are very solid and reliable cars and in my opinion I’d rather have a Jetta than a civic or a corolla
2.5 inline 5 are way better designed and constructed than the new turbo ones
If it wasn’t for the sludge would be great 👍
Might be my next car
The 2.5 sounds great. The new TSI 4 cylinders are pretty crap.
Are they reliable tho as a used car????
@@Albert-xl3nx yes very, but you’ll need to get one with a 2.5 5 cylinder engine
The turbo ones are horrible, too many problems with those engines.
My family loves my dad's MKV Jetta. 80k and stil going too!
Beautiful car!
sweet ride I love it maybe you can help me back in 2011 around September 10th on to October 5th there was a vw jetta commercial from seattle it had a very neat sounding song in it mainly instrumental ive emailed the vw of seattle about it but no answer from them yet, I hope you would know anything about it thank you very much and hope to find out what it was.
I think there is an aux port in the head unit.
Can you do a review on the new Mazda 6?
nice white 1966 mustang in the background
anybody notice the 60's shelby in the backround at 1:50
I grew up in a '95 Camry which was considered midsize here in the US. The Jetta's back seat is definitely roomier than that. I would likely call this midsize, but our government classifies it oddly. Like my VW CC is "Midsize Near Luxury" lol
Man, you've been a busy bee lately!
Have you reviewed the GLI? If not, please review it.
OMG.... Sofyan... So young!!! LOL... You have aged quite well!
Keep Redlining!!!
The new jetta is ok, But I still like the MK5 more. My dad had a base 09 jetta manual and it was super fun. What gets me is why VW made the dashboard padded on upper trims but not the door panel. I think having soft touch-points on the door is more important, its not like I rest my arms on the dash...
we've had the turbos since 2008 in australia it sucks how they cant bring them to america
I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not about the suspension being a change or not haha. Anyways, to me, its a big change. The standard setup is pretty good as my uncle has a 2012 Jetta TDI and I found it pretty fun. And I've driven the new Focus and Mazda 3 as well as the last gen 3 series. Its not as fun as the 3 series but still better than the Focus and almost as fun as the 3. I don't even care about the dashboard it looks great and classy and its built like granite.
My stepmom has a 12' jetta TDI with the fender sound system and her cad ha all windows up/ down
I like the previous gen better but these are going for a great price right now especially with the CPO warranty.
As a Tuner this car is a prime specimen. I own a 2011 jetta sel and plan on getting it on bags and wheels. Just give it your own touch
Bought a 2013 se w/convenience and sunroof 5 weeks ago with 16340 miles (now 17000) for $13100. Certified preowned with the extra 2yr/24k miles warranty 5 speed manual candy white w/cornsilk beige interior. It has the 2.5 motor (sounds great when pulling in second gear imo. I believe I got a good deal. First car ever at age 26.👏 I treat her like my child. Lol. Gonna get the H&R sport lowering springs next month..can't wait to eliminate the wheel gap then purchase the maxton front lip🙏 already have the rear lip spoiler and oem stainless steel muffler tips.
Lowering sedans, putting "spoilers" on them, etc only makes you look like a silly dork. Save your money. It's a FWD, 4-door sedan. Don't be a wannabe boy racer.
It's a lip spoiler...
@@McBeakerson Thanks. I now own a 2018 Gti SE manual , dark iron blue for the past 11 and a half months.
Rear reminds me of Audi A4.
thats because the a4 is a jetta lol
+TheGod0fThunder Actually the A4 has longitudinal engine, so it is a bit different, isn't it?
No its a jetta
they are basically the same thing. Audi is VW luxury brand! Just like Lexus it Toyota luxury brand, or Infiniti is Nissan's luxury brand! so they were technically right!!!

Nice car!
2011 golf 2.5, 2011 jetta sel, or 2008 accord exl v6 sedan??
LOLL at the start up exhaust view
The 2.0 actually goes back to the 1993 MKIII Jetta
Did anyone else notice the Green Volkswagen Bus in the background at 11:09
I had to click bc I have one similar to that lol
I have a VW Jetta 2011 TDi, and I have gone through three different stock stereos (since owning the vehicle in 2018). This is obviously pitiful performance from these stereos. I have no idea what causes to just stop working. There was no triggering event that I’ve been able to pinpoint.
Any recommendations on a replacement stereo?
Not sure what is with American definitions for car sizes. In no way shape or form is the Jetta a compact car.
did u bought that or rented it?
I really miss the test drives with dash cam... =(
2014 Models get standard independent rear suspension.
Looks fun to drive, I heard VWs are fun to drive.
the dent on the drivers door tho
of course to make a cheaper car, they will have to cut costs. I think people complained b/c historically, the jetta was in a different class. It was the true entry level sorta premium German car. The civic has always been cheap since its inception. Personally, I like the jetta, however, if I ever get one, I would only buy the GLI, I need a little pep in the engine.
People these days complain about everything. Hard dash in a civic, everybody complains. Hard dash in Jetta, everybody complains. Listen, if these cars didn't have cheaper materials we would be seeing a $26,000 Civic EX-L. I would much rather take the plastic interior of the 11' jetta for the bigger rear seats.
Should I buy this car tomorrow?:p
do a 2014 gli one :D
Why does the remote have a key built into it if the car is push to start?
If the remote or car battery dies you can still get in the car or open the trunk.
6:54 when she says she's wet af
You're not supposed to rev an engine like that when you first start any car. You have to let it warm up first. It's not recommended you rev it up anyway. It's bad for the engine.
have you reviewed the 1.8 liter engine yet? 184 pd ft tourque.
I hope he does. I'm planning on getting one soon
I got off topic. Anyways, about the dashboard, you're right, its no big deal. However there is some sense in it. For one it will cut down on rattling since it can flex and can have some impacts to it and it wont make a noise, it will just squish and bounce back. And another they try to impersonate a classy car since luxury, classy cars have leather wrapped dashboards which is soft, normal car makers impersonate it by putting rubber material. I don't care, its sort of a useless bonus to me.
Jetta is getting a turbo 1.8 to replace the 2.5 i think next year.
It’s a nice looking car, looks premium, I like the Audi vibe it has, at least on the outside, the interior looks cheap, even for a compact car, cheaper than a 2011 Toyota Corolla LE. 10-15 years later they burn oil and become expensive to maintain.
2011 and 2013 are similar. I have a 2013 SEL and it looks just like that.
how is your jetta currenlty?
in the rest of the world the top spec model for vw is called highline, us americans are special as we like to call our cars (sport, special edition, special edition lux?)
Have fun hearing that dash rattle few years down the road.
where is the temperature gauge ??? i have the same car & i can't find i
do your new car reviews the same way!!
Good review! But be careful with the habit of starting many, many sentences with "Now..."
It clearly says SEL at the back of the car...
how has the reliability of these been?
lulz1978 still waiting on that answer lol
@@candiirivera5472 they’re great
@@candiirivera5472 but stick shift is more reliable i have a stick shift without camera
Chicago G Appreciate the response.!
I'm buying one next week I'm scared
Did you end up getting? And if so, how do you like it?
+kjutb i bought mine almost 3 months ago. it was a 2014 jetta with 48600kms. no issues yet and runs really well
Why they are great cars. Mine has almost 100k miles on it. Just use oem parts when you get it worked on and youll be fine
the german corolla
7:00 xD
hassan chergui lmao
Looks great - a class above all the comparative junk from the Japanese - Mazda 3, Corolla, etc. Jetta & Focus are far more elegant and sophisticated. But then again, not all that purchase eco boxes even know what those qualities are
Is that gas leaking out of the muffler?
Its water from condensation
The EU spec modell is much better than the US spec one. I really don't know why you guys in the US get a cheap version of the Jetta. When here in Europe it's more luxurious and refined.
You live in Canada Im guessing. I do too, they call it SEL we call it Highline. They call it SE we call it comfortline.
No he was in Washington DC at the time
It has a 6 speed not 5 speed manual
2013 models are so much better, i wish i could have drove one.
the 1.8 tsi has 160 hp
You should say what the car is worth .
No this is not a good car , idk if I had bad luck but the one I got was used and it breaks down every other month. I spent over 2k trying to fix it. Mostly because the parts are really expensive, recommend to get some like a Toyota or Nissan since they are more reliable.
With a used car you never know what maintenance has been skipped. Something like transmission fluid not being changed could burn up the clutches, but that's no fault of the transmission itself. My 2012 2.5 Jetta has 212k miles on it and runs great.
urrr thats a nasty dent in the drivers door
people in America, as a whole, may prefer a softer ride....but the ones who are thinking about buying a German car do not have that in mind. Point is, by trying to appeal to the masses, you are compromising what sets you apart....your identity. On one hand, I like how the Jetta is reasonably priced...but on the other it has lost a lot of its edge.
I got one because I don't want a car with "edge." I wanted a pleasant-driving, good German car at a good price with styling that won't look dorky 5 years from now. That's the MK6 Jetta.
The MK3 Jetta sucked. I like this one more
its water.
Water.
The manual is only a 5 speed? What is this... That's not very modern or German.
MrLaxman425 The 5-Speed is a very capable transmission. Keeps the RPMs low on the highway and gets better mileage compared to the auto. That extra gear just isn't needed.
i wouldn't say the cabin is an improvement over the MK5. its cheaper, looks older, and the center stack hasnt aged well IMO. its more cost effective to buy a CPO MK5 if you want the premium features which is SUPPOSED to separate this car from the rest of the class. for me? i think i would rather be in a civic ex-l. its more exciting to look at, the interior is way more modern and futeristic... and overall its less boring if you get the SI. VW, cut the americanized crap and go back to premium.
I just bought a new one. I am going to take off the VW and put on a BMW in the grill and rear and watch my parents freak out.
Shouldve put Audi
your made in mexico
Who Cares about plastic Around or by a window??
#NOBODY..
Another commercial for over priced crap vehicles!
+JustLucky I think it's a nice car. The 5-cylinder, when it was offered, is a unique selling point and it is a suitably handsome looking car compared to a Toyota corolla.
