2011 Volkswagen Jetta SEL Review, Walkaround, Exhaust, & Test Drive

  • In Volkswagen's quest for higher sales numbers, the company has decided to give us a bigger, cheaper, and more spacious Jetta for 2011. It may not be what the VW faithful wanted, but American consumers seemed to have responded well, with it quickly becoming the brands best-selling model. We especially like the 2013 updates, if you're in the market for a compact sedan with a large back seat and baby Audi-looks, make sure you check one out. Although, we would advise you to avoid the base Jetta S trim.

    I do like your reviews but it feels like even if you like something you're very nonchalant about it. I can imagine you saying, "overall this Ferrari has a good acceleration and as I do over 300 mph I feel a buzzing from the engine that I don't particularly enjoy."

    Feel like it’s a good entry level/beginner/daily German car. The 2.5l has been really reliable for me and sounds nice with an AEM short ram intake and AWE exhaust. Interior can be MUCH nicer if you upgrade ALOT of parts. Vw does cheap out on these Jettas, but there is a lot of OEM+ trim parts you can swap in as well as nice aftermarket parts to make it look and feel a little bit more premium. I wish I woulda opted for an SEL or GLI or even a more loaded SE to start with but even then would still want to upgrade a lot of parts to make it look nicer. These cars may not be race cars but they are nice entry level cruisers that are fun to mod

      The 2.5 5 cylinder Jetta is much more reliable than the TSI turbo 4 cylinders. Those are pretty bad engines. The 2.5 also sounds amazing but it's even better with a manual.

    I grew up in a '95 Camry which was considered midsize here in the US. The Jetta's back seat is definitely roomier than that. I would likely call this midsize, but our government classifies it oddly. Like my VW CC is "Midsize Near Luxury" lol

    The new jetta is ok, But I still like the MK5 more. My dad had a base 09 jetta manual and it was super fun. What gets me is why VW made the dashboard padded on upper trims but not the door panel. I think having soft touch-points on the door is more important, its not like I rest my arms on the dash...

The standard setup is pretty good as my uncle has a 2012 Jetta TDI and I found it pretty fun. And I've driven the new Focus and Mazda 3 as well as the last gen 3 series. Its not as fun as the 3 series but still better than the Focus and almost as fun as the 3. I don't even care about the dashboard it looks great and classy and its built like granite.

    of course to make a cheaper car, they will have to cut costs. I think people complained b/c historically, the jetta was in a different class. It was the true entry level sorta premium German car. The civic has always been cheap since its inception. Personally, I like the jetta, however, if I ever get one, I would only buy the GLI, I need a little pep in the engine.

  • @bmwmsport11
    @bmwmsport11 11 лет назад +2

    People these days complain about everything. Hard dash in a civic, everybody complains. Hard dash in Jetta, everybody complains. Listen, if these cars didn't have cheaper materials we would be seeing a $26,000 Civic EX-L. I would much rather take the plastic interior of the 11' jetta for the bigger rear seats.

    I got off topic. Anyways, about the dashboard, you're right, its no big deal. However there is some sense in it. For one it will cut down on rattling since it can flex and can have some impacts to it and it wont make a noise, it will just squish and bounce back. And another they try to impersonate a classy car since luxury, classy cars have leather wrapped dashboards which is soft, normal car makers impersonate it by putting rubber material. I don't care, its sort of a useless bonus to me.

    It’s a nice looking car, looks premium, I like the Audi vibe it has, at least on the outside, the interior looks cheap, even for a compact car, cheaper than a 2011 Toyota Corolla LE. 10-15 years later they burn oil and become expensive to maintain.

    people in America, as a whole, may prefer a softer ride....but the ones who are thinking about buying a German car do not have that in mind. Point is, by trying to appeal to the masses, you are compromising what sets you apart....your identity. On one hand, I like how the Jetta is reasonably priced...but on the other it has lost a lot of its edge.

  • @TheK24Kyle

    i wouldn't say the cabin is an improvement over the MK5. its cheaper, looks older, and the center stack hasnt aged well IMO. its more cost effective to buy a CPO MK5 if you want the premium features which is SUPPOSED to separate this car from the rest of the class. for me? i think i would rather be in a civic ex-l. its more exciting to look at, the interior is way more modern and futeristic... and overall its less boring if you get the SI. VW, cut the americanized crap and go back to premium.
