I modded a PS2 some years ago. I remember the way i modded it you had to leave the Mega Man X4 disc to access the hdd games. But you can take the disc out and play regular disc games if you wanted to as well. Met a woman and her kid, explained again how it worked (as well as an email i sent to her beforehand, and it was in the ad. So they bought it. A few days later i get this super long email from the mother telling me how it doesnt work, theres no games on it, how horrible of a person i am and how i could live with myself for being a fraud and theres a place in hell for me blah blah. All i did was respond back and say, "like ive mentioned numerous times before- did you take out the mega man X4 disc? Because if you take it out you cant access the hdd games." A few days pass, she writes back. "Yes he took the disc out". Idiot.

This video was basically my experience with selling RGHs on eBay. So many kids asking what it comes with when I list RIGHT IN THE DESCRIPTION exactly what is included. One time a kid was asking me questions about the system only to say "ok cool, now I just need money." at the end. I almost lost it right there.

Thank you for all your videos!! Selling even un modded systems is a pain in the ass, I couldn’t imagine you selling these to probably 99% of the general public that has absolutely no knowledge of what they are buying.
My solution for those kinda of annoying questions, with time, became " i dont know, i got it like that". Cause if you show to people you're knowledgeable, they will keep buging you like that.
I remember when i bought my modded original xbox from ebay. I forgot the person that I bought it from. I was very happy and still am happy they modded it for me because it was perfect the way I wanted it. I googled how to add games myself and other emulators and roms. It is easy to do in some cases. It's been almost four years since then. Having a modded console is awesome. Keep up the great work ok.
I did this with PS2, it wasn't modded..but I found this channel and while I didn't follow things 100% down the line (I downloaded elsewhere and not the link provided so it wasn't all packaged and easy for me to do but this way I learnt and got an idea how the modding/systems worked and I was happy to learn that).

If you're sick of people messaging you after you've sold your system and you don't want to give out your personal number, I recommend using GOOGLE VOICE. You can get a free phone number that's not your REAL number. It's a godsend in case you have some idiot pestering you.
I just stay away from craigslist and these similar sales platforms. I just sell on eBay and I like the fact that there's a third-party intermediary between me and the customer because I hate people and the public and dealing with them.
Modified consoles do not make eBay happy.
For craigslist, get a burner phone and always meet in a public place. Then it doesn't matter if they hassle you or not after the sale. Just turn the phone off for a week and move on with your life.
Google Voice - avoid the burner phone that way. Get annoyed? Block them! Get spammed by different numbers? Change your number with ease. Best of all - it's free for the US and Canada :)

It happens with me all the time. I once advertised a ps3 console for $80. The buyer agreed and come to pick it up with $73 in change. He got very angry when I declined and sent him to the nearest atm.

I can totally understand your feelings here...I had originally wanted to do a couple of xboxes up for the retro games for my kids so I went on eBay to place a bid on a couple from an organization. Unfortunately I wound up winning 13 of them all at once so I have been modding them and selling them just to get my costs back. Recently I had a sale to a young person who yes asked if there were any games or mod menus on it. Explained that was his responsiblity. He came with his father and i had it up and running to show them that the system did work. I got a text the following evening that the xbox would not boot up past the opening screen. I asked him if he had tried changing any of the configuration..his answer was NO. Told him to bring it over and I would check it out. He came with his mom. Once again while face to face I asked him if he had tried to change anything. No was just playing and when he went to turn it on again it wouldnt boot up. I had googled and found to put a blank launch.ini file on a thumb drive and booting up..guess what? it worked and guess what I found on the HDD??? the files for a free stealth server. Asked him where they came from..I dont know it came that way. Since I am former tier 3 customer service and had to put up with shit from customers I let him have it. Told him it DID NOT come with those files as the organization that sold the xbox to me security wipes the hdd and I also make sure there arent any profiles etc. So reconfigured launch.ini deleted the other files and sent him on his way.
Next day!!! I get a call from his mom stating he was playing it for about hour and half and it froze on it and again black screen. I exlained to her what is going on that he is trying to mod games for online play. So again she brought me the xbox..booted up with the thumb drive and found he had been messing with the files..this time had cpukey.bin file on the hdd. So to keep from them calling me all the time .. I put in a mod menu for him, set up the plugins and told him all he had to do was add his stealth server...the answer i got from him was "Im not allowed to go online until Im 16" WTF!!!!!!
I posted one of the last xboxes I have and not a half hour later I get a message from him asking if he can swap...needless to say I now have him and his parents blocked!!

At one point, I commend the kid for thinking of a clever way behind his parent's rule, but on the other hand, you gotta know what you are getting yourself into.
I don't understand why these people go back to the seller, thinking that they have access to tech support.
Im the smart friend in my group. Im the one handling everything related to tech and game consoles. I told my friends that I will only jailbreak their consoles if theyre willing to learn how to do what they want to do and never ask me about it again. Out of the ones that I HAVE counted, 2 out of 8 people that i know of have actually kept up with a jailbroken console and kept up with their knowledge. The rest didnt bother and just went back to a regular console. I do not deal with this kind of shit from my friends because its frustrating enough trying to figure it out the first time sometimes, let alone teaching it to someone else.
holy molly that was atrocious! I've always done my mods on my own but if I had to buy a console pre-modded I would at least educate myself before even talking to the seller for the system.

I experience this all the time. At a certain point I just fire the customer because it's not worth my time. I hate when customers do not research modded Xboxs. I get asked to install games often. The concepts are not difficult to understand. I RGHed my first console when I was 13. There's no excuse for all of this ignorance.

That was a top 10 request when I had my mod shop. GTA mods and pirated games. I was like a broken record telling people "no I can't help you with that it's illegal" or "check google". That's how you stay in business and out of trouble. I too worked in help desk for 10 years as a day job so it didn't bother me as I've dealt with much worse. I had a no tolerance policy where I'd kick you out of my shop if you even discussed piracy. 2008 was insane ICE came after many modders in SD but my shop (the only actual store front at the time) was left untouched. ICE can you imagine that. They're supposed to be protecting our borders from drugs and criminals but instead had pictures of modchips on the front page of their site. Guess they were bored that year.

I was thinking about repairing and modding consoles, handhelds, and controllers mainly from Japanese junk lots for myself but also to sell after I get enough experience with soldering. It's going to be a ton of fun to bring this stuff back to life and improve what I have while money on the many things I want done anyway so I thought it would work as a way to get extra money so I have been doing research about it but now I know that it's can be lot more complicated then the more common things I have heard in the past. Something I have just realized is that the videos I have seen from people who seem to enjoy repairing and selling modded consoles and handhelds were working on thing's that weren't extremely simple for the buyer to use like gba's or have a mod that few people who aren't retro gaming enthusiast would know about like gamecubes with pictoboot. I read several comments with stories I read that had gone through what MrMario has usually involving systems that are from after the 1990's, more successful then the gamecube, and I feel that have mods that are more likely to be discovered. Has anyone who has sold a bunch modded consoles from the 80's, 90's, 2000's, and 2010's had roughly the same issue with buyers for each type of console and on all the open websites you use? I am especially curious about etsy. I guess I will have look into this more.

I understand your pain, even as a buyer. Usually the only time I message sellers, is either to provide a Tracking Number if possible, or in the case of the PSP I ordered a while back, I asked if the battery was included. But yeah, I understand the pain too, I even had someone message me about how to use a piece of software and it kinda got annoying.

When I sell stuff online, I use a Google Voice number and disposable email address. Once the sale is done, I do not get a bunch of questions because the sale/communication is OVER. I do not sell broken/defective items. I know things work when I sell it, I test it before it goes out the door just in case something happened over time (electronics can break, even from non-use...caps can leak, etc...)....but once the sale is done, the communication is done....

Yes, it's just Xbox people. I've sold numerous pre-modded consoles (Wii, Wii U, PS3, XBOX) and it's always the Xbox sales that are a hassle. Although, I've been doing it for long enough that I can automatically disregard the annoying children that ask multiple questions.
Worst instance; I have a grown adult who purchased a console from me early last year and to this day tries to call or message asking for help and what not.
Can relate to the sale of something then "can you help" sold some guy who apparently did photography and editing of videos a bunch of ram then an hour later "hey can you help me to use cinema 4D and photoshop, I need to learn how to use them now" I was like you for real... google it I'm not a tutor

I use to make freemcboot memory cards back in the day- I use to do it for free provided you sent a memory card and postage. I stopped doing that because people would have so many questions afterwards. To the point I realize its better for people to just make there own so they know how to operate them and fix them later them on.
Agreed. Part of why I keep it limited to friends more as favors at times, I very much have to go in with the mindset of "Do I want to answer all their follow-up questions?" 😅

I only do mods for friends to avoid these. Least with friends I dont mind going the extra mile to explain stuff and it's less about money and more about giving em something back from when they took me out for dinner or helped me moving etc.

That's the problem with people who want everything done for them. They're assuming by having a "premodded" console, that it's become a magic box with all the mods for every game they'll ever need ever with all the updates and the best anti-ban mods and the easiest way to get free xbox live. Tell them to get fucked. If they're not willing to learn about the console and they're using the console, that's on them that's their responsibility. I mainly do PS3 and 3DS mods, typically soft mods. I don't solder and I don't chip. I buy the console from people who've done that already, but as far as software, I can handle directory organization and XeX patches. Some people just assume what you're selling will do everything for them. Sorry, folks. THIS IS UNAUTHORIZED HARDWARE.

i used to mod psp/ps2 and this one kid(about 15 years old) kept coming to my house bugging me to help him cause he didnt know what to do, like get games, homebrew and cheats even tho i showed him everything and told him to just google psp game or to watch youtube videos if he still couldn't figure it out. he would keep coming over to my house even when i was so sick that i couldnt even get out of bed, finally i told him i'm not fucking tech support. he would keep coming over multiple times a day
i also had this one lady who every fucking day would come to my house( for 2-4 hours) and bug me saying her netbook was fucked up cause facebook looked different then the day before. Facebook kept updating there layout every once and a while and she didn't like the way it did. i kept telling her there is nothing i can do and she kept coming every fucking day saying she must have done something or she would come saying her computer is to slow, i told her its a fucking netbook what did you thing it was going to be? like i said she would come everyday until i found on her netbook pictures of 15 year old black kids with no shirts on. when she saw that i saw that, she started to freak out saying it was her 16 year old daughter that must have downloaded them. i knew her daughter and i knew for a fact that she doesn't use her moms computer(cause she has her own pc at home) but i can't prove that she didn't use her pc and that they weren't her's, so i couldn't really do anything. she never came to my house again after that.
That went left real quick.
Ive sold Modded WII U and 3DS only so far.. no issues at all.. pretty straight forward and everyone has been super nice

I can't even imagine having the audacity to buy a relatively cheap piece of equipment and then expect the seller to provide free training on how to operate it. While that info is readily available all over the internet.
But this goes back to one rule of business every business owner knows, or should know- some customers are not worth dealing with. There are high value customers and low value customers. Places like eBay, craigslist provide mainly low value customers. They pester you with endless questions and complain, eating up your valuable time, they are rude and entitled and they will steal from you. And your margins will be shit because they expect everything dirt cheap. You can sell lots of cheap items at low margins to low value customers. Or you can sell fewer high value items to high value customers at much higher margins. But you can't really do both. You have to decide which type of business you want to be. Sites like eBay, Amazon and Craigslist are fine for individuals who just have some random stuff to sell and it doesn't make any sense for them to create their own website or open their own shop. But as a business platform they are trash for a lot of different reasons.

I've worked retail before, and I used to own a RUclips channel that covered PSP custom firmware. I had the same problem with people like this. Not to mention how stupid easy it is to actually get the games on there, let alone mod menus for these consoles, and even if someone doesn't know how to do this, are they that lazy to just google this crap? Idiots. This is why we have anti-consumer practices happen now, all thanks to idiots.

As a customer of modded consoles from vendors other than your good self, I have both been the DS customer who you never heard from again, and the Xbox customer who bugged you a few times. I think the blame should be shared across the customer and vendor. My Xbox360 problems would have been solved if the vendor had gave me a simple demonstration the day I picked it up. However in my experience console modders are very private, often anti social, and like to communicate either by video tutorials not made for the laymen, or through bullet point instructions. Now I have nothing but respect for console modders that are expert in a very nich craft, but bear in mind for the average Jo the Xbox JTAG stuff is probably not meant for the guy off the street that just wants something easy to plug and play. Avoid selling to these guys as you are probably setting themselves up for fail and you shouldnt complain if they come back and say this is too tough to understand.
I understand your viewpoint, however I'm of the belief if you're going to pick up a specialized piece of hardware you do have to do preliminary homework and have at least some Google-fu of what to search for. That's what I did as an example before I got my first RGH, half of what I looked up didn't make sense until I had the console in hand, but I at least had some prep work done.
If you buy a car from a person or a dealership and pay in cash, they'll answer some questions about the car in regards to details about it, but they won't teach you to drive. If you buy a laptop somewhere they can answer general and some specialized questions, but they won't give you a full rundown of the basics of how to use a PC. Same thing should apply here, even if a console isn't modded, most sellers aren't going to teach you the very basics of how to use a game console. That's something you either should know or should be willing to learn when you hook up the console.
@@MrMario2011 Awesome point. I only want ro draw to attention if the buyer was actually aware its a specialised piece of hardware and its not suited for the laymen then I whole heartedly agree with you.
However if the buyer thinks its application is going to be the same as a DS lite, I would argue that the seller knowing how advanced the JTAG is, has a duty of care to strongly advise the seller they cant recommend it.
In my case I asked the seller oh so you just put games on this and play them and the seller responded "yeah". Now you might think the problem is that I didnt research. But to be fair when you go to fill up your car with gas for example, you dont necessarily stop and feel the need to research the type of patrol and your type of engine to see if it's a match. You trust that the gas station sold you gas that will work for 99.9% of cars on the road, otherwise the vendor should clearly mark the gas is for specialised cars.

At least they offer! I just had someone today ask me if I have something and what the lowest I go will be. We have people too lazy to even throw out an offer, they expect you to sell to them AND do their side of the negotiations!

I went through the same bullshit when I sold my modded systems on eBay. I sold hi def modded nes from one of the first 100 batch kits that was sold and guy had no clue what he was buying. Also sold rgb modded snes and parson kept asking questions on what cable to use AFTER making purchase. Never again...

I used to sell modded PS3s and I get customers around 15y sometimes they know what they're doing and sometimes they don't even know what's jailbreak and it's annoying because I put a huge long paragraph in description on Craigslist and offer up what's on the system and what comes with the system and I even put steps how to put games in your hard drive and how to put mod menus but they still don't get it I just gave up from there, if they just don't get it I stop texting them. And after I stop texting them they call me a scammer 😂 I tell them I'm not responsible at all after the purchase anything you do to the console I'm not responsible if you get banned it's not my fault. I sold all my consoles with clean CID numbers.
jessie seegar I'm sorry I don't do jailbreaks or downgrade PS3 anymore because of annoying customers. I recently sold my equipment and the guy who bought it, broke the E3 flasher because he was trying to jailbreak a PS3 on a carpet floor where there is a lot of static so he shorted out his friends PS3 and the E3 flasher all together😂 but sorry once again I don't do Jailbreak or downgrades anymore🙂
