I feel the same way. My copy of Hackers on VHS was perpetually on my bedroom TV all throughout high school. I still watch it all the time. The movie and music in it has always filled me with a weird otherworldly feeling. It's the same now, but also nostalgic.
Awesome interview. Plague is just a cool villain in "Hackers". The way how Fisher Stevens portrayed it was really cool. Greetings from Buenos Aires, Argentina. "Hackers" forever! Excellent channel.
@@HackersCurator I'm from the Philippines, and I was a fan of Hackers since I saw them as a kid. The movie introduced me to computers, the internet, and the cyberpunk culture. I became computer literate, thanks to the movie.
I really wished that Hackers would have a sequel. A reunion. Have the hackers meet up today including the plague to save someone and so on. Id love that very much as it was an awesome movie.
What a class act. I think the fact that he was in his 30s by the time he worked on this movie, he might have benefited from taking it all in in a way the younger actors may not have done. Compare for example the level of detail of his memories compared to Matthew Lillard. That's a long time ago to remember individual scenes like that! Perhaps he's watched the movie a few times over the years to keep the memories more fresh. Wow, I can just imagine a movie called The Plague about him finally coming out of jail, reformed, but still with an edge to him. Opening scene he reclaims the items from prison, including his cape-coat and skateboard, and he goes from getting on a bus, cut to, on a skateboard skitching from the bumper of a car. So who's his target? Gill? The FBI? The Gibson? Or something new? Then he enters into a warehouse, all concrete and broken windows, and echoing in the halls, he hears a voice recite the Hacker's Manifesto. Out of the shadows steps... Mark Anthony?! The movie would have enough inside references to keep us all tickled, but also something fresh that would light the imagination of today's youth. I'm not holding my breath, but if nothing else, I can dream, can't I?
@@simonb8988 Thanks! But even if you think my comment warrants more likes, I posted it a couple of months after the video came out and so probably after most people watched the video. I'm happy enough that you enjoyed it.
Great interview, I continue to be surprised and impressed by your ability to make these connections and land these actors for interviews. Very well done, I'm sure it takes a lot of persistence.
@@HackersCurator 2 hard no among the cast members? I bet they must be Angelina and Marc Anthony due to their current celebrity status. Jonny Lee Miller has already shown in the 20th anniversary screening that he has no problem letting himself be seen by the movie's fanbase and I can't think of a reason why Penn Jillette would say no and the same apply for the other cast members who haven't been interviewed neither on the website nor on RUclips.
@@enricmm85 there are some we done even know how to get ahold of, and others yeah that you would think would be really into it that just arent. There are even others that have said ok but we just cant seem to reconnect with after. Not strictly speaking about cast though either.
One of my favorite movies of all time, saw it when I was 13 and I've seen it obsessively since. Somehow one of the most 90s movies ever and yet timeless at the same time.
Great interview! I'm sure it has been brought up before, but I really like how The Plague uses a skateboard, and the younger generation of hackers are using more "modern" technology, rollerblades.
3 follow-up questions for Fisher: 1. When Nikon is delivering flowers to memorize passwords, and Fisher is riding his skateboard, then without skipping a beat, smacks a female office worker on the ass -- was that scripted or improvised? (still chuckle to this day at that) 2. When he's playing the virtual reality game and punching the air, was he actually playing a game? 3. When Fisher's in the office with Agent Gill while Gill is getting harassed on the phone during the payback montage and Fisher is going through files in the background, then remarks at Gill, "animal," was that scripted, or improvised? (favorite delivery in the film) Love your guys' work!
Great interview! Wished this channel had more videos! It’s interesting the political comments at the end, how now we know there was no Russian collusion yet look how at the time all three of these people were utterly convinced. The power of persuasion.
Just had to say, though I haven’t seen all of your content. Waiting on that dade computer custom build. But these interviews, YES!! Thank you for your love for this film!!
Trust me when I say, weve tried. His agent has been a tough cookie :) Penn is also super busy, so it's hard to get time, especially when were basically asking him to donate time.
@@HackersCurator That makes sense actually. I'm sure the agents are very difficult to get through since their role is basically to be a gatekeeper and maximize their clients Financial opportunities.
Fisher Stevens is very personable, great interview ! He was awesome in Hackers. When I was a kid my sisters boyfriend at the time, really great guy took us to see Hackers and I was like a movie about people on computers ? Who uses a computer ? This is going to be boring ... and then the opening scene and the Halycon On and on song, it was such a refreshing exciting entertaining movie, it wasn’t like anything I’ve seen before, every scene I didn’t know where it was going to lead next and I was totally invested in the story and characters and the look of the film. If that movie came out in 1997/1998 it would have been a huge hit because everyone was starting to use AOL and getting on the internet at that time, you couldn’t go into any chatroom without seeing someone with the name Zerocool.
I remember reading back in the day about a contest they did to let a bunch of hackers crash a system in order to earn a walk in role. I second guessed my memory on that. Wonder if anyone else remembers hearing of that?
Plague is the man! So perfectly cast in this movie. You have to get Agent Richard Gill one of these days, and/or Marc Anthony!! Thanks for this channel I love it!!
Now when I see Fisher Stevens in Succession I like to pretend that this was the new career he picked up after getting out of prison and retiring "The Plague" handle.
So about that escalator scene... YES! It's awkward and the dubbing is very noticeable. It always kinda throws me out of the film. It doesn't seem like a complicated scene.
I just watched the movie again (which is how I subsequently stumbled upon this awesome channel) and totally noticed the audio dubbing too. Also had a feeling him grabbing the papers was improvised, fun to learn that was true.

I was Fishers IT guy in like 2008 at Green street films in tribeca and worked on his mac many times. He's genuinely a great guy.
