I know this is a 3 year old video by now but lemme take a shot *Deep breath* List of common passwords Hack off poster that references the bet: To hassle RIchard GIll and get one back for Joey! JVC shirt worn by Zero C... Crash Override Hackers Soundtrack 2 and 3 (Or should I say Square and Cubed) Cereal Killer's toothbrush Rollerblades because rollerblading is the preferred way to get around! (Skateboards suck The Plague) Crash Overrides background on the laptop And I know it's not in the vid but you could have slipped a Microcassette Recorder into there or at least 5 bucks in quarters!
I got to see Hackers at the Alamo in Raleigh in January. I made up for being a broke 16 year old in 95 the three weeks it was in theaters where I lived. Also got to see Orbital last year and depending on how the Rona goes, i might get to see Underworld this year
Heh so kind of a funny/weird thing about how I came across the movie is that I actually first watched it in middle school. My computer teacher would play the movie every year. Not a very appropriate film for kids but I was also into computers at the time so it piqued my interest. After he would play the movie you'd have a bunch of kids running around the school yelling "hack the planet" for about a week.
Awesome project! One thing you could have done is use a sheet of gold paper and print the text on the paper and cut to size to place under the screen. That way it could always be taken out and used for a real pager still. Anyways~ Kudos!
yeah kinda was wondering where you'd get a 2x15 instead of 2x16 lcd display module from. with icons at the top lol :P but maybe that's just what came with those things :P although ofcourse a full dot matrix graphic version can do it... both the icons and the text. but the icons would be blocky.
there used to be kiosks at malls where you bought different colored third party enclosures for most popular models and they installed them for you. the pagers in the movie are all the typical neon colors these places would offer. I had a neon-lime green one for mine, I remember it also came with a thin metal chain you clipped to your belt or something
Do you have that sheet with the Grand Central Hack the Planet text available to download from somewhere? I'm about to do one of these pagers like Cereal Killer's and that would be super helpful.
You can pull up one side of the screen, then on the back, there are a few small indentations between the plastic frame and the panel. Using a small screwdriver, you can pop the frame free at about 3 locations, and then it pulls off pretty easily.
Sadly, it's not a functional pager, and just some static piece. I can understand someone not willing to deal with RF parts in paranoia of the FCC bootfecking doors, but some USB- or Serial-programmable LCD would've been possible. ruclips.net/video/hZRL8luuPb8/видео.html Or some eInk-Display that would only need power to reprogram the message...
Yeah it's not just the message though. The pixel array? On the screen isnt actually arranged in a way that would allow you to recreate the look of the screen from the film. Yes you could do the message but the little icons and whatnot no. To your point though the entire screen could be replaced.
Jacket looks great and the pager build is awesome !
This is the first prop I'm going to try to replicate based on your vids. Here's to hoping the guy from Bulgaria accepts my best offer, lol
That Vaseline trick tho. I carved out painters tape, did everything, then watched this 😂
Fantastic work.

Sounds like the coolest teacher in the world! Glad you found us.
This is so fucking cool, my fav movie of all time, I made some of my own props years ago.
YO! I'M ON FIRE!

Fantastic! Were the alternate colors created by the prop makers on the movie or were those colors available for purchase at one point?
Black was the only color available from Motorola. All others were painted. I have actually seen some aftermarket shells in clear colors online though.

i woul love one of these
Can you drop the brand/color of the paints you used? I have the white primer, but when you held up the colors I could not see the front label.
What is the second song name playing in the background of this video (not Halcyon and On)?
It's called "Grand Central" and is officially being released on the new hackers soundtrack being released next month.
@@HackersCurator Thanks for the quick answer. Nice videos btw, keep up the great work
I am THIS CLOSE > < from making this with fully working pagers. Soooooo very close :)

Can you say how build Lord Nikon glasses?
I can't get the screen plastic off without ruining the screen. I dunno how you got it off so easily.
Great video!
Thanks! It was really fun to do. Weve got some more recreations coming up. First comment on the channel too! Well done.
How did you take the lcd screen off? I tried on a spare I had and couldn't get it off without breaking it. I need a way that doesnt destroy the lcd.

Calls himself a Hackers fan... but runs Windows on his PC?

I did it with the actual pager ( Motorola advisor ) and a HACK-RF Portapack H1 :)
