- Happy spooky season y'all.

Here we have a few tips on how to make the horror movie viewing experience enjoyable as well as a boat load of recommendations.
I mean this video is pretty much a ton of recommendations essentially. Some of them get pretty serious towards the end of the video. I had a rough time editing this and revisiting some of them, too. Hot dang.
I have this theory that horror movies can be described with any combo of 2 of these 4 descriptors: Spooky, gory, goofy, and Ruin Your Day. That pretty much introduces 6 microgenres:
Spooky/Goofy is fun silly Halloween stuff that's lighthearted.
Spooky/Gory is a bit more violent and vicious with strong supernatural elements.
Spooky/Ruin Your Day is pure misery where the ghosts are out to kick your dog, burn your house down, ruin your credit score, and THEN dispatch you and your family.
Goofy/Gory is where all the gleeful and sometimes satirical body horror lies.
Goofy/Ruin Your Day is... weird. You'll see.
Finally, there's Gory/Ruin Your Day which is unadulterated vicious stimuli to make you feel bad for 2 hours. This is intense stuff.
Proceed with caution. This video is a bit more intense than my others.
Also did I mention my band is releasing our debut single on October 29? You should definitely check it out and see us live in Boise, Idaho on the same day if you're in the neighborhood.

Yo! My band Raccoon Tour is releasing our big debut single on October 29 with a music video and everything. We're playing a show in Boise, Idaho on the same day! If you live in the area, come say hello!
I've been trying out a new schedule for myself so I'm able to actually work on videos and stuff. Hopefully I'll be posting more often! I'm developing a big boy workflow after like 4 or 5 years.
Happy spooky season and enjoy these movies responsibly! There is some POTENT stuff in there.
YOOOOO DUDE PLS MAKE A DISCORD SERVER
Happy spooky season to you too Nate! I'll be looking forward to the single. Can't make it to Boise however. So sad!
Also, so happy you're back Nate.
It's S P O O P Y season y'all!!
@@juliuscoder9118 He did, it just died after a while.
I’ve never felt more bullied by tips that I needed 😭😭
genuinely, my Halloween isn’t complete until your special comes out. it’s become a tradition. Glad you’re back.
Ngl I feel the same way
me about to go watch everything of the last category with my boyfriends knowing i have to walk home alone in the dark:
ur gonna tap out on martyrs
@@NateIsLame maybe but im hoping to go all the way, funny games looks really good
@@mossie_witch8220 How was it?
@@Ahuman-pl7qo pretty good actually, one of my boyfriends tapped out after martyrs opening scene but me and the other boyfriend watched everything through
@@mossie_witch8220 hold up
I'm not shitting you, I actually know one of the directors of V/H/S, he's a family friend and we stayed at a beach house in Hawaii for Thanksgiving one year. He was such a cool dude.
Awesome! Do you know what short he directed?
@@NateIsLame I misspoke, actually. He wrote and starred in 10/31/98. His name's Matt Betinelli-Olpin and he's set to direct the upcoming Scream movie, I'm really excited for him.
Bro I’m so glad you aren’t dead 😩 stay alive brotatoship we need nutrients from your content to survive
177 likes and no comments?
I have not watched a single horror movie in my life, was never interested in the genre, don’t even know what “the classics” are about etc
But this video has found me and
oh I’m about to ruin so many of my days
just stay away from that last category and you'll be golden. definitely start with the evil dead series! maybe netflix's fear street too!
The works you do are pretty intriguing and intersting. This is one of them!
Infact, the video is long and detailed as well.
Fun Fact - The VALF is a youtuber and animator as you and he had also made a horror related hillarious video last month. It was also a long video as yours. This reminded me of that.
Btw love your content 🐱
we love cross support for animation homies
Another good addition to gory/ruin your day(imo)is Perfect Blue. It gets inside your head, absolutley depressing at some points, and maybe I'm just regurgitating what makes a ruin your day film but still, a very worthwhile watch.
And just for a little context, all I will give is that it revolves around a celebrity, and I do have one more thing but that's all I'll give. And please consider the warnings given in the video about the category
Bro, I just saw pink flamingos. I can't believe that guy who directed hairspray made that.
Green Room is so good. Blue Ruin by the same director is also really enjoyable. Glad you’re uploading again my dude.
I’ve rewatched this video so many times. Please make more movie content time to time!
Bubba Hotep is the best Goofy/Spooky film of all time. Elvis (played by Bruce Campbell) fights a mummy in an old folks home. If that doesn't convince you to watch it, you probably wouldn't enjoy it much anyway. (Pro tip: watch it drunk at least once. It's even better)
GOOD RECOMMENDATION! Bruce is the man
Brain dead/Dead Alive directed by Peter Jackson = Best goofy gory of all time
“Werewolves not swearwolves” I fucking LOOOOVVVVEEEEE What We Do in the Shadows
I find it funny that I absolutely hate horror movies but I am obsessed with horror games. idk why tho
I feel like they tell more of a story. It's more lore than gore idk
I hate horror movies (sometimes) but I am obsessed with true crime
The “baby” tips were funny but could be genuinely helpful
My mom showed me the Exorcist when I was 11. She saw it in theaters when she was 5 but didn't remember a lot. She forgot about the crucifix scene. I was really scared and was dismissed and didn't see the 2nd half of the movie. Watched it again recently and 6 years later it wasn't scary to me at all but it was a pretty good movie. Besides that I've dabbled in Carrie, IT, The Fear Street Trilogy, Hereditary, a few Dracula movies and some random Annabelle movie but my favorite so far is Alien(not that scary but really well made.)I don't know what my fear tolerance is but none of these movies I mentioned I thought were that scary(aka I slept fine.)
It's cool to have you back even if just for spooky season
I would not recommend watching Tusk to my worst enemy, that movie traumatised me. 😭💀
I highly recommend hatching. It came out a month ago and its a good goofy-ruin your day horror, but however, its actually good with friends
Omg these categories are EVRYTHING…
Three very random recomendation:
- goofy: scary stories to tell in the dark
- ruin your day: climax
- ruin your day gory: Goodnight mommy,
Goodnight Mommy is such a great subversion/deconstruction of the typical “someone is acting different, ooh is it a spooky ghost?” plot that we’ve seen a million times. It’s a lot like Scream in the way that it takes a horror movie cliche that’s been done to death and completely turns it on it’s head. It’s really hard to watch, but if you can handle it, then it’s worth it.
*I wish you talked about John Carpenter's The Thing on here, the paranoia theme and all the little details around the movie hinting who's been assimilated are awesome.*
It’s the scariest movie ever made imo
WATCH THE CELL IF YOU WANT TO BE EMOTIONALLY TORN APART.
It is surrealism horror that will make you genuinely frightened and very sad
I really thought this was going to be about surviving what happens in the movies. Got art instead and not disappointed
I’m really glad your band is starting to get attention and I can’t wait for that single to drop. I’ve got a question for you regarding that; what would you say are some of the band’s influences?
sinister was my probably my first real horror movie, safe to say I covered my face and plugged my ears A LOT lol, even though I had a group of friends with me and we kept laughing
4 genres of horror movie
Fun horror (IT) true horror (the thing) torture porn (terrifier 1/2) and movies with animal deaths on screen
I LOVE HISTORICAL COMEDY, FICTIOn, AND NONFICTION FILMS
Best horror movie ever is the thing 1980 version it is a masterpiece
I haven't really watched horror movies before besides Jigsaw, the Texas Chainsaw remake, and Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, so I decided to watch Funny Games.
I nearly turned it off twice.
Oh boy I’d like to see ya try Martyrs 👀
@@NateIsLame o god I saw a explanation to that movie 😅
I saw it after hearing about such an amazing and reinventing film it is. Definitely the worst film I’ve ever seen in my life, nothing has ever wasted 2 hours for me except for that one film. And Joss Whedon’s Justice League exists, so that’s sayin somethin.
Since no one else is going to say it,
JUNIOR YEAR SURVIVAL GUIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
it's on the way!
Guys, Green Room isn’t anywhere near as bad as he made it sound. the movie is so abysmally dark that i genuinely had no idea that certain MAIN characters died because it just looked like an extra
Adjust your TV’s picture settings and rewatch it. It’s gnarly.
Read it before watching, thought this was a (joke) defense of the movie lol
You got to “Gory/Ruin your day” and In my head I just kept saying “Martyrs”
My mental health will definitely enjoy this
I've always been a fan of scary things, liking the horror of Five nights as Freddy's as cringe as it may sound that got me into horror and spooky things but my Dad wasn't a fan and said the kind of people who enjoy this kind of stuff grow up to become Phycotic and crazy murders so I never really got into until I was in highschool and even then I didn't really watch so much horror mainly because I lost some intrest in it from because of my Dad, This Halloween I'm gonna watch some scary shit with my friends like dumb teenagers biting off more than we can chew, Happy Halloween to all and to all a spooky night
flashback to when i was at my brothers house and my other brother recommended me to watch hereditary at 14 so i decided to watch it because i was a moderate horror fan expecting him to sit down and watch it with me but he just fucking dipped leading me to witness genuinely the worst movie i have ever seen to date
Yooo, I love the “werewolf, not swearwolf” reference from ‘What we do in the shadows’ that movie doesn’t get enough love! (Or the show tbh)
*There's nothing better than watching another of Nate's spooky videos*
I'm currently doing a "Horror Movie Month" with my s/o who hates horror movies, while I love them. Were slowly watching worse and more disturbing movies by day 31, leading up to Human Centipede 2. So thanks for the recommendations, I'll be using some of these for next year :)
I know I'm extremely late with this comment, but what are your thoughts on Society. I'd put it in goofy/gory or gory/ruin your day if your stomach is too weak
Definitely goofy gory
I recently watched a movie that probably falls in the “ruin your day” category and it’s called lamb
i actually really did not like the lamb. i don't know if i'd be able to classify it as a horror film at all. maybe goofy ruin your day if we're stretching it?
IS THAT A NEW VERSION OF SOFARINRUNNING IN THE BEGINNING HOLY SHIT BRUH I'M FUCKING SHOOK I'M SO HYPED
Great video too
you're the first person to catch that ;)
Wow it actually sounds amazing
When are we getting the junior high school survival guide 😄
Incident in a ghostland was something.. I watched it with two of my friends and I definitely recommend watching it!
My first horror movie was the Exorcist. I was more grossed than freaked out but still not fun
2:47 this is definitely accurate. In class recently we were watching this really gruesome war film and I am quite squeamish. So I looked away, but I could still here everything. So I heard all the gunshots, the blood splatting sounds and everyone around me commenting on how gross it was.
HES ALIVE
dude i realise i say this every goddamn year but I'm really glad you're still around making these videos. despite anything that changes in my life, these halloween specials are a great constant to have. thank you nate for everything that you do :)
I have been looking for good horror for so long. I went into this video thinking "yeah, I've seen hereditary and it follow. I know what horror is." but holy shit I am going to stay awake for as long as I can watching each one of these thank you so much
I recommend Japanese horror movies in general, they are on another level entirely. A lot of my favorite horror movies are from Japan. Nate, what do you think of them?
Audition was a really good movie imo
i watched martyrs for the first time after only having watched about 2 or 3 horror movies prior. it absolutely ruined me.
Wake up babe!! New Nateislame Halloween vid!!!
The king is back with another Halloween classic! Stoked as hell for the new Raccoon Tour song!
gonna make it my mission to watch every movie on this list
i really do like the horror genre, but there's never really been anything (aside from some indie projects on the internet, lots of talent on here!) that has truly scared me. i want something to scratch that itch, y'know? very excited to start! thanks for the watch list Nate!
I’ve always been a huge horror movie fanatic, but hereditary still scares me. I was researching horror movies when I was 12 and came across this, I read a very long summary and even some of the script which grossed/creeped me out so much I still haven’t seen it.
bro i was like "challenge accepted" THEN I WATCHED THE PART THAT SHOWED HER DECAPITATED HEAD ON THE GROUND WITH ANTS CRAWLING ON IT BRO I'M GONNA KMS
Nate im so excited for the Racoon Tour stuff and this video was amazing as well keep it up man.
Let’s goooooo, mans back! love bro
MOM WAKE UP NATEISLAME POSTED
You know it’s a good day when Nate posts
Damn I love these long Nate is lame videos! Love ur stuff dude
towards the end of the school year last year i had two friends of mine watch martyrs with me. it was my second time watching it while it was their first, 3 class days and at the end we were all traumatized but loved the movie and had an appreciation for watching it
Dude! Just like me and MANY others I'm so glad you're back! I was just thinking about you acouple weeks ago and in glad you seem to be holding on! Stay safe dude, we all appreciate you so much. :)
it's always a good day when nate posts, glad to see you're doing alr mate!
Thanks for the ruin your day recommendations but I think I’ll stick to Spooky/Goofy or Goofy/Gory. Not feeling like I want infinite trauma
YO YOU ACTUALLY UPLOADED AND THAT MAKES MY DAY
Starting off with the Minecraft 2015 Halloween music, That's how I knew this was going to be good
Glad to see you back!
Its a classic, but I absolutely love Midsommar. Its scary, and has so many good little details that I love. I always notice something new when I watch it, its not for everyone fs but if you love psychological horror then definitely check it out :)
This Halloween My friend and I are gonna watch Texas Chainsaw Massacre. She doesn't very much like horror movies so I decided lets watch one of my favorites first.
I really thought you were gonna mention Texas Chainsaw Massacre, That movie was something! The fact that the horror starts furing daylight really emphasizes that feeling of uneasyness no matter what.
I think my family was a bit hardcore when it came to horror movies, cause I remember seeing Chainsaw Massacre, Funny Games, hereditary, Martyrs, and Dogtooth between when I was like 11 - 13.
I would say cos of this, that yes its not really for kids, but I honestly think they've made me stronger when dealing with this stuff. (Although I didn't watch any of them alone).
I would also recommend cube if you want a bit more of a sci-fi mystery movie, definetly worth a watch.
Thanks for the video Nate! The king is finally back!
Always happy to see a new NateIsLame vid :D
Truth or dare made me afraid of mirrors, it's a bit goofy, but it's no fun
Yo you posted yay i have been waiting so long yes
Scream was my first ever horror movie and to this day it’s still me favorite horror movie and second favorite movie of all time
Revisiting this video after 4 months, I have only 1 question. How tf has this video not reached at least 100k views
I saw the preview when i hovered over the thumbnail and i was like "oh no..." because martyr's is one of the scariest and most disturbing movies ever made. Its a wonderful movie though and very well made. But if you can stomach it id recommend you watch it.
i could barely edit the clips cause i hated revisiting it so much. what a brual movie.
Wow you're alive, finally some content
I am inspired by the amount of work and effort you visibly put into your videos! Keep up the good work!
i am trying so hard 🥺
hoping this will help me stop having nightmares whenever i watch a horror movie
seriously i've been having nightmares about an invisible man killing me in my sleep for the past few days help
pretend to be dead and pour him with paint
Well what are you gonna do about it you can’t see him coming? Actually, if you are wanting to stop him and not let yourself die like a wimp, buy a bunch of ballpit balls and dump them all over your floor just enough that they cover everything and you can easily hear anything walking or moving around in your home. If you don’t do that, well it’s your fault for letting yourself die.
This is honestly a great recommendation, thanks
Good to have you back
Nate has uploaded yay!!!!!!!
Its tradition for me and my friend to watch your Halloween videos together ❤️❤️❤️
I love Trick r Treat so much. Really hope we get that sequel someday
Same
Oh Nate, thank you! I loved the selection your presented here and I definitely found new favorites. Coming here from watching visceral, gory, or disturbing movies such as Martyrs, 120 Days of Sodom, A Serbian Film, The Exorcist, and Antichrist, I was looking for more horror to watch. And you have me that. Its 8PM now and I just finished the binge. Started with Funny Games, then Wolf Creek, then Green Room, and finally Incident in a Ghostland. So happy I left that movie for last. More than any of these, this one really stuck with me emotionally because of the twist. I fucking loved it. Green Room was another banger. What a fun movie to watch. Out of the horror flicks I've watched in this marathon I've been on, thats the only one I'd actively recommend for all my friends and most people in general. I had a blast watching it and I really liked all the characters. But man Ghostland was something else. Martyrs is definitely Pascal Laugier's magnum opus, but I prefer Ghostland to it. I think its because Martyrs left me wanting more. I wanted to see more of Anna and Luci's relationship before shit really hit the fan. Anyway, wishing you the best after having just watched your draw my life. Much love.
I’ve been chasing the disgusted and shocked high I got from hereditary ever since I saw it back in 2018, some of the stuff on here definitely sounds like it fits the bill, can’t wait to check them out
Honestly, I like ruin your day horror movies
Add Men to your list too! It’s pretty twisted!
FINALLY SOMEONE SAID SOMETHING ABOUT INCIDENT IN A GHOST LAND I LOVE IT SO SO MUCH
I JUST WATCHED IT AND ITS SO SCARY
The legend is back
YOUR BACK YESSSD
This was great! I got a lot of movies to check out now
I agree with fear street being literally THE BEST movies EVERRRR & would love it if u made a separate video just on that bc honestly it deserves one
13:27 "As if it hits you in the head with a pipe"
*I see what you did there*
Nate when you dropping the junior survival guide
I found you through raccoon tour, so happy to hear there's new music coming out!
Ik this video has been up for like a year but ive recently starting to get into more horror movies and ive gotten a lot of recs from here ive been watching these past few months like fear street, evil dead etc. So wanted to say thanks nate (also been a fan for some years and you are awesome)
The most disturbing horror movie I’ve seen is You Better Watch Out.
"Ruin your day" horror movies are the best lol
oh man they get wild
Have you seen "us"? It's a great horror movie you should check out (also already saw hereditary and that was one hell of a ride lol)
