Oh, and before anyone argues that the pilot gets to travel to possibly hundreds of places a year, keep in mind that they can usually only enjoy the place for like 1 or 2 days at most before heading onto their next flight while you on your vacation get to enjoy the place for 2 weeks or more usually.
Correct
Tbf, they get so many hours off... Like, some of those up there get like, half a year off.

Not really. Some airlines only require a certain amount of hours and ratings.

Yes they deserve it. They have thousands of lives in their hands. Not just passengers but the passenger’s family.
And there’s a shortage. They should get more salary. Also remember that there’s a 1500 hour rule where they get paid almost nothing for the first 1500 hours flown since you can’t fly a plane
True. They also don’t get paid for pre flight checks on ground or anything leading up to the flight. They are only paid for in flight hours. They are responsible for so many human lives and have to be alert and aware of so much at odd hours of the day in different time zones. It is absolutely not an easy job being a pilot.
Pilots jobs are hard people think that they sit on there asses all day. It’s usually has its ups and downs. The hardest part is definitely hitting the simulators and going through all the material you learned again. You can’t forget anything and 1/2 ass something in aviation. You have to be a meteorologist, doctor, mechanic, and a aviator. You need to understand weather, your engines and how they work, health and associate medical conditions. It’s not as easy as it looks, that’s why 40% quit there first year at a part 141. It’s just too much and they’re all yet to even scratch an actually airline.
Yea I agree, you know how many people want to go to popular places so much! except for Ryanair pilots.
@Anne Beck and when there is a minor or even a major fault, i.e.: engine(s) failure, they will have to try and land as safely as possible, sparing as many lives as possible.
I work for a major airline and some things of note:
1.) You are no longer required to have a college degree.
If you have your hours (at least 1,500 or 750 in military service) and instrument ratings, many regionals will be willing to have you. Do a few years of that and now Major airlines will scoop you up much sooner than before.
2.) Pilots aren’t enjoying a plane that flies by itself! Even in an Airbus! There’s so much instrument watching and plan deviations you have to be aware of and on the fly. You don’t just take off and enjoy uneventful flight plans all the time. I talk to pilots. None of them say it’s easy but all of them say it’s worth it.
3.) Pilots are not overpaid! I mean, when the flight is uneventful it seems like it but when things go even slightly amiss it’s like they’re hilariously underpaid and I believe all of them deserve more.
To be honest I think you can’t say an average of 100k is under paid, that is enough to live comfortably and if need be due to stress get a great therapist, you could indeed argue that more money is always better but pilots are definitely not underpaid (on average)

"Their job isn't hard"
What, seriously? Their job is like one of the most complicated ones
That includes emergency landings
Every job is complicated and difficult if you don’t have the knowledge, and easy once you know.
Well it’s not the reason they are paid so much it’s because the demand is high and theres not much people wanting to do this jobs so because of that scaresity the airline has to pay them more otherwise they would lose a lot of money
@@James-tw5vyits not that people dont wanna do the job bro. Its because flight school is expensive and the requirements to be able to fly a commercial jet will set you back a good 15 years before you actually step into the cockpit.
@@westerlywinds5684that’s bullsh1t, not every job is complicated and most jobs don’t even require any certification or training/schooling, I started working construction without any knowledge and it’s a fairly straightforward job, it’s physically demanding but straightforward, working in a shop, walking behind a garbage truck, a lot of office jobs and most of the most common jobs are very simple, being a pilot however requires a LOT of training, hours upon hours of studying, being a pilot also is a fairly stressful job for a lot of what I’ve heard, you need a special kind of personality to put yourself through all that trouble mentally, physically and financially to become a pilot, once you’ve done that you fly regionals and get paid less as some easier jobs out there to just keep pushing yourself, there are quite some people that get that far just to realise they don’t like the job as much as they thought, by the time you actually start earning good money it’ll take a while to pay of all your debt, not every job is complicated without knowledge, the hardest part about most jobs is either financially, mentally or physically but when just becoming a pilot it’s not just one of those 3 but all 3.
As young construction worker I have a lot of physical challenge on my job and financially it’s reasonable mentally I have no problems with this job, working in a shop you might get more mental sh1t because of entitlement with some costumers and financially it’s mostly okay, physically working is a shop is not challenging, almost none of. The most common jobs are complicated neither do they take a toll on all 3 those things at a time
Never under estimate a job like pilot, there is a reason for that high pay, if you are a person with the right personality and willingness to push yourself you are a rare person and because of that rarity you are valuable to an airline
As an attorney providing legal services to airline pilots for several decades, I'll add that the average salary today adjusted for inflation is actually less than it was 20 years ago. The mandated periods of rest and flights are so disruptive that many have failed marriages. Flight schedules are such that many join together to rent apartments around the country as "crash pads" to get sleep during layovers, as a significant expense not paid by the airline. Then there is the stress of dying because some under trained mechanic in Mexico left a screwdriver in an engine which "servicing" it for the employer airline looking to get maintenance on the cheap.
Wow you made it sound awful. Airlines should be paying for these pilots food, hotels etc when they’re on the job!! That’s crazy.

🤔Life is priceless despite the insurance💪
The part of the video talking about “letting the technology do the flying” is a very gross oversimplification of what we actually do. We do turn on the autopilot once we are above a certain altitude and let it physically fly the aircraft, but the autopilot doesn’t do anything without us telling it what to do. We are still the ones that have to plan and fly the departure procedures and arrivals, deviate the aircraft around hazardous weather, do fuel calculations in flight, weight and balance, re-program the autopilot when we are given route changes in flight by the air traffic controllers, and manually take over the aircraft if there is some sort of system failure or abnormality. The general public thinks all we do it click on the autopilot and take a nap. But that’s not true at all. We have to turn the autopilot off if we get into turbulence that is too rough because the autopilot won’t be able to hold our heading or altitude. The purpose of the autopilot is to reduce our workload so we can focus on the other parts I mentioned. Think of autopilot just like very sophisticated cruise control on your car. I have had several occasions where the autopilot malfunctioned or wasn’t doing what we programmed it to do, so we had to disconnect it.

They sacrifice a lot of themselves; time, money, energy; they work their entire lives logging in hundreds of thousands of hours to become proficient in flying an aircraft & invest in learning everything about the aircraft’s aerodynamics, instruments, how to handle various emergency situations that may arise while focusing on getting people safely to their destinations in a calm manner… they’re responsible for several lives. If you want competent & safe pilots pay them often & pay them well!!
We don’t work that hard. 😂😂😂. I don’t even consider it a job. It’s a lifestyle and a pretty nice one at that.
Whoever says “we don’t work that hard,” dismiss that very harshly. Pilots need to take their job seriously-the person above me doesn’t appear to do so.
@@o.s.h.4613 where in the world did I say that I don’t take my job seriously? I take it very serious. But taking it serious, does not mean working hard.
Sorry to say this, but we really don’t work hard compared to the average person with a job. That’s why it’s a lifestyle and doesn’t feel like a job.
But when we are actually doing the task at hand, we are focused and serious…..but it’s simply not hard work. 🤷🏻♂️
@@o.s.h.4613 I’m currently on a 2 week trip. I started in the USA, went to the Middle East, went to Hong Kong, then to Europe and my next flight is back to the USA. 14 days gone, 5 days of actual flight days and when I get home, 21 days off. So in 35 days total, I technically work 5 days. 🤣🤣 nobody in the world calls that hard work.
Yes
They are away from family often. Most importantly, they have to be ready to handle dire situations
Yes they deserve it. Is that even a question? My dream job is to be a pilot one day, and after doing studies on aviation I have found that the technology doesn’t do everything. The pilot still has to do a full plane check around the entire aircraft, no matter the size. Also, most aircrafts don’t have automatic takeoff or landing.
Manually landing : 💀
Ngl they deserve more
Pilots are the only reason our world is so connected, dam well they deserve that salary
Edit: Im tryna be pilot my self so wish me luck 😬
same bro, good luck to you ❤
Good luck, and good on ya. I have the utmost respect for airline pilots. Go get it.
@@mvmishler Thank you!
I wish y luck
You’ll never be a pilot with that grammar and spelling.
the pilots deserve the money that they get because many pilots around the world are dying. because of plane crashes I respect all the pilots around the world. And they do everything they can to keep the passengers safe.
Bro took "I'm working from home today" to a whole new level 💀
They deserve a higher salary because they could be away from their family and they have a huge responsibility. Also their college and flight situation training
I just flew on a plane for the first time in my life and yes pilots deserve a high salary because I made it back on land safe and sound
Interesting…many affirm high salaries for pilots but still want cheap airline tickets.
@@glendavis1266 I never said or complained about airfare prices. FOH
Yes, they definitely deserve it. Thank you and god bless all pilots and crew for your continued hard work.
flying a large haul like commercial aircrafts is harder than you think
They deserve more cuz there’s a shortage. We love our pilots
100%, YES. They deserve excellent salary, excellent benefits & all of our prayers both when we're on their flights and safe on the ground. I have NOTHING but RESPECT for all the men & women at every level in the airline industry.
Pilots do a lot more then you think
It's Pretty Simple Really, Just Look At The Cost, Requirements & The TIME It Takes To Be A Captain For A Major Airline. Thank You.
