Yeah, I've burst out crying in public. It's not pretty but that stuff happens sometimes. It's really hard to be upbeat all the time for everyone else's sake without ever having the time to just.... sometimes have a crappy day because of the blindness. It's so incredibly frustrating with progressive vision loss, having to adjust to things that you JUST were doing okay-ish like a month or so ago. That really just, wears on you after a while. Other people don't get how the littlest things can suddenly be very, very depressing. Then you realize that people who literally used to love you....don't anymore... because of your vision loss; because you used to be strong and capable and now you're just.... not any of those things. Can't keep it all bottled up, even if you just end up crying into your pillow at night you gotta let it out.
I like the word you use 'authentic'. That really pins it down. Sadness about being blind is an authentic state to experience. I wonder if youu have had the experience of being scared or fearful. Fear is one of my greatest obstacles.Maybe you could talk about fear?
Don’t know how I missed this one but yes it’s ok to feel sad when you’re having that occasional down moment. We’re human and we all have good and bad days. It’s a broad topic so I don’t blame you for going on about it for several minutes explaining.
JC5 Productions Trust me most of the time I feel sad because of lots of things like my mom told me when I moved into my apartments that I was not allowed to talk to anyone otherwise she would put me in a home. There are definitely moments were we can't fix anything. But................. Somehow we kick ourselves in the ass for the things we can't do anything about. Like having many many brain surgeries or many hospital stays. I've been through more than just brain surgery though. 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😏😏😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Preach it sister! I talk about this all the time and encourage people to do the same. I've heard from so many people that have been blind for years that they still feel sad, upset or upset about their sight loss. And I firmly believe that there is nothing wrong with that. Great job sharing this authentic message with everyone. Keep it up!
Life After Sight Loss thanks so much for your comment! I was a little bit nervous about posting this video because I wasn’t sure how well received it would be or if my message would be interpreted the wrong way. It’s great to hear from another blind RUclipsr that I did this topic justice
Cayla with a C I think you definitely did it justice! And, I too worry how some of my videos will be taken by people. Videos are a monologue at people and I would rather have a dialogue with them. But, I guess we have to start somewhere! Keep it up!
Growing up I had very little vision. I then lost the little vision that I had 9 years ago. Tomorrow is the 9 year anniversary of me losing the rest of my vision. I am always very emotional on this day, and am sad. I keep thinking that each year it will be easier on the anniversary day, but each year on January 15 I feel that sadness of losing my vision. Thank you so much for making this video. You made me feel better. Thank you for being so open and honest. Hearing your words has brought me comfort, and I will carry them with me as I go about my day tomorrow.
Hi Ashley. I can totally understand being emotional on the anniversary of when you lost your vision. I’m so glad this video could bring you comfort. I hope that today can be a little better than it has been in the past, and if not, it will be behind you soon ❤️❤️
Crying through this whole vid I feel it its frustrating an keeping it bottled up makes it worse it's how life is just have to find your own ways through it happy u made this video
Thank you for this video. I'm going through a very hard time right now as my vision worsened again a couple weeks ago. I put on your videos often to remind myself I'm not alone.
Maggie E i’m sorry you are having a hard time. I can definitely relate. It is really hard especially when you are losing vision, and you have to grieve those losses over and over again. You are definitely not alone, and I’m glad my videos can remind you of that. I hope things start looking up for you soon ❤️
My impairment is very recent so I have alot of adjustments to make. I am seeing a Therapist but this video was as useful as any session I ever had. Thank You for being so honest and open. It has helped me alot.
David Weiss i’m so glad I was able to help you. And I think that it’s great that you are seeing a therapist, that can be extremely helpful. I hope things start looking up for you soon ❤️
Yes it’s ok to be sad I have my good days and bad days. I sometimes get sad when I go to church because people ask me what’s wrong with my eyes. Sometimes it bothers me sometimes it doesn’t. 😢I like your story because a lot of blind people look overly happy all the time. We are all human and it’s ok to cry or be sad it shows people that we are happy.
How very true! I do my best to be positive too, because I have a husband and a toddler who need me. But there are just those days that life gets hard. Sometimes I wish I could just hop in the car and drive to the park with my son and take him to lots of different adventures. And yeah, that makes me sad. We have to let it out, because if we don't it will consume us from the inside. Nevertheless, I think there is a balance.there are a lot of things to be sad about, but we also have to remember to be happy for a lot of the things that we do have. There are others who are in worst circumstances and situations. Not to say that we should compare, but just remember to be grateful for what we do have and to have a positive attitude. We can be sad sometimes. We can cry sometimes. But those times don't need to define us or be who we Are. Thanks for sharing! And great video as always. 👍
Live Accessible thanks for your comment! I agree with everything you said. Especially the part about finding a balance between being positive and grateful for what we do have and letting out the sadness.
I agree sometimes you are sad .Also frustrating sometimes is a good word .I agree with you we try to convince everyone that we are okay with being visually impaired. But deep down inside we are not .When we tell people that they just go woo! I think I offen get sad because I can’t do what I did before I lost my vision.I miss the things I use to lowv hobbies so on .So you know what I do I am finding away to do it being visually impaired.Might not be the same way others do it who have vision but that’s okay .
Thank you so much this is a very hard thing to explain to people in your life. But you made my day I’ve watched every revision of your videos I’ve been blind often on my entire life I get fixed I fall backwards I get fixed but this explains it as good as anyone ever has called bless you and your videos
Cayla,i sometimes feel the same way as you do when you feel sad about your rp and even though I am as positive as I can be and confidence in myself but for the almost four months of having cataracts in both eyes and feelings of being emotional, mentally and physically drained because what it doing to me and being homebound .I used to be independent with some help from the age of 19 until 3 1/2 months or so ago and it bothers me a lot having to reply on my mom, niece and a friend
I know what you mean my friend. Most of the time it bother me to. It’s okay to be sad because we struggle with our challenge life gives us a hard time in life.
Thank you for your video, I have Stargardt’s disease, can really relate to the changing stages of vision. You get to one stage and think, this is not so bad and then it changes again. It is very wet.
So yes a times I feel sad, fustrated and asking for help etc which includes enlisting help from strangers to help me out to find an item or reaching an item on a top shelf or finding an object that dropped onto a floor etc
that's a beautiful gold sweater. did you get that recently? where's it from? I do know of some blind/VI people who are depressed and make excuses for themselves. I don't hang out with them. Only positive people who know how to socialize and have fun.
Ok what if someone is going through a long history of disabilities? Are you cited or do you have Vision Impairments? I know how to be positive but I need lots of encouragement to push me through hard times.
I know exactly how that feels. My family and I often travel to the mountains and there is wildlife everywhere. It makes me sad as my family calls out every deer they can see but I never can. Then one day my dad pulled the car over and walked me up the hill so I could finally see one.
Melissa Piatt yeah that can be really hard when everyone around you is talking about something that you can’t see. I’m glad you were finally able to see one though

I've watched a few videos like this and so far I haven't heard anyone mention family members with the same issue. It's an inherited disease and yet everyone seems to be going through it alone. My father was totally blind (due to RP and several other conditions) and my brother and I both have RP. My Dad was the coolest guy in the world. A great musician. Just wondering why no one else seems to mention the great role models they had. Perhaps this disease normally skips generations or something like that. But in my case, at least going back to my grandmother, at least one person in every generation had it. Anyway, thanks for sharing your experience. I really like the way you describe things.
Jay Stacy although RP is typically inherited, there is absolutely no trace of anyone in my family having it. So I have felt very alone with it until recently getting connected with the blind and visually impaired community online. I do think though that it would be very comforting to have family members to be able to relate to and I’m glad you have that support system
