    Here's the simple way to explain it.....
    We don't tell you that you need oxygen. But when you are told you need oxygen, we help you look at why you were told that and how you can fit doing the things to get oxygen into your daily habits and what are the barriers to you doing those and then brainstorm together ways to overcome those barriers. And then we keep accountability on these things.

    HI Michelle, I am currently RN and trying to decided between Health Coach & Holistic RN. The area I am most interested in coaching is the meditation area. Knowing that....which do you think is better fit? Thank you, Carl

    • @michellemaclean

      It's a big decision that I think will take some further research on your part. I am not an RN so not sure what would be the best fit for you.

    Great explanation. I’ve been overthinking this for a while. It does seem scary to work in this field dealing with people health. I guess you never know until you try, but having integrity is key to mitigate risks. When you know how the body works, you’re just sharing facts (ie. The body needs vitamin d). Then being supportive in how they choose to improve their levels. They can get more sunlight, they might want to take a supplement, etc.

      I'm glad this was helpful. While there's a lot that is out of scope for us, there's also a lot we can do with the right approach, a coach mindset, and as you say integrity.

    Hi there! I love your content and it’s very helpful!
    If you have a moment would you mind sharing some of your wisdom…? I’m currently studying to become a health coach and feeling some dread because it’s not what I expected. I feel that my title will come across as deceptive to clients. I know that many people hire health coaches because the title “health coach” implies that they will coach you on improving your health. So that’s their expectation…. the title “health coach” seems extremely deceptive if health coaches cannot give health advice. If I hired a health coach and they were just using psychological tactics on me every session, I’d feel very annoyed, like I’ve wasted my time and money… BECAUSE of the misleading title. It sounds more like a life coach or behavioral change coach. Those may be more appropriate titles. I don’t like it and it feels sneaky. I don’t want to be inauthentic.
    Also, I’ve been on both sides, and when clients ask direct questions, it’s SO annoying when the coach says “Tell me more about that,” or “What do you already know about that?” AND NEVER get around to answering the question themselves, and provide resources for the health issues going on… it’s weird. I know It’s how the health coaches have been trained, but it comes across as shady, and evasive and actually causes the client to lose confidence and trust in the coach because it feels extremely evasive, as if the coach doesn’t know anything about the particular topic introduced. It feels like the coach is talking in circles and avoiding or buying time because they have no clue about the health topic I mentioned. I feel like I made a huge mistake investing thousands of dollars in this course. I have a feeling that many clients will dump me when they realize they’re not actually getting the health advice they were seeking in the first place.

      Hi Jane. I am so sorry you are feeling discouraged. For me it is all about setting expectations with your clients and educating on how our role is different from other health and wellness professionals. I wholeheartedly believe in our role and the value we provide, it's just different than going to a doc, therapist or nutritionist. We have to educate on what it's like to be a client versus a patient. As health coaches we should be knowledgeable about health and wellbeing not to be able to diagnose, prescribe or treat but for understanding, awareness and we can educate and provide resources a small percentage of the time. I really hope that if you can embrace the coach approach you will see the benefits.

    If you can make suggestions, then isn’t that practically the same as advice? And isn’t the implementation of a behavioral change process predicated on the notions that come from you as the coach and your opinions and suggestions?

    • @michellemaclean
      @michellemaclean  11 месяцев назад

      Giving a couple suggestions to your client is different from advising, recommending and telling them what to do. It gives them a few options and then they can decide what they want to do with the suggestions. They don't have to take them at all. That is the coach approach. We honour that the client know what's best for them. We are not medical experts.

      @@michellemacleanif the client new what was best for them they wouldn’t be coming to you in the first place.

    • @michellemaclean
      @michellemaclean  10 месяцев назад +2

      @@CLWABW the idea of coaching is that the coach is skillful in asking powerful, high mileage questions to help the client tap into their inner wisdom, to uncover their truth and connect with their strengths, resources and values. We believe all of this is within our clients but they might now know it. They might not believe in themselves or see what is possible or what their own wisdom and strengths are. What coaches do is help them uncover all of this, connect to it and become empowered to then take action to move forward. I hope this helps to clarify.

      If you are a health and wellness certified person, you can come up with behavioral changes. In their spiritual, mental, emotional, and health goals. Not therapists, nor rd's, not doctors.

    • @ChloeLux
      @ChloeLux 5 месяцев назад +1

      you don't have to have a medical degree to help people implement practical changes into their lives... everyone should always talk to their doctors before doing anything new, taking any new supplements, or making drastic changes to their diets. This should be something you tell clients as well.
