  • “It was consensual, I just had my ways of convincing them.”
On April 21, 2003, a day before her 17th birthday, Amanda accepts a ride from her friend's dad after her work shift ends, not knowing this decision would cost her freedom for the next 10 years. Between 2002 and 2004, the neighbourhood bus driver, Ariel Castro, kidnapped three of his daughter’s friends: Michelle Knight, Amanda Berry and Georgina ‘Gina’ DeJesus. Amanda and the girls are chained and tortured in the Cleveland House of Horrors, blocks away from her own mother, up until her young daughter born in captivity dares to ask a question that would ultimately lead to their escape, and end their decade-long nightmare.

      Amen to this post...
I genuinely think all humans should have "term limits" for their occupations in general (some vanguards are needed to teach new trainees)...
      What do I mean?
People become infected with apathy in most cases when remaining in a single occupation. It is only human for one to become "routine" and robotic in their job.
      Here...
When your job demands genuine empathy to serve your purpose and NOT hurt others= you must never become empathy-dumb.

What makes her mother’s death before her getting the chance to ever see her alive again is the fact that she had finally gotten to meet with “Psychic” Sylvia Brown to find out about Amanda’s whereabouts and just like the fraudulent scam artist she has always been, gave Amanda’s mother incorrect information about her. Since Amanda had been missing for a few years Sylvia thought it would be a safe bet to claim her dead. The devastating impact this had on Amanda’s mother is so heartbreaking and enraging at the same time. Any time any person proclaims themselves to be psychic mediums, they are 100% lying scammers!!!

This is a part of the story that most newspapers NEVER covered...the dispatcher's callous disregard for protocol. The way Castro's ex kept reporting his crimes toward her and her own daughter...only to be ignored. I guess that law enforcement didn't want their mistakes...which came out of the tendency of many to dismiss what women in crisis say...to be known. In the end Amanda and her daughter had to save themselves.

If they refuse to help then that could automatically lead to death or anything of that nature.... They all responsible for saving people's lives so they should face legal consequences for refusing to save someones life since its obviously their duty.. its like a pledge... Same one that ems takes when taking a job as first responders in ambulance.. they need to do whatever it takes to save a life.. if they refuse that like manslaughter... I honestly think that Castro had forgotten to shut the door and lock it by mistake or he had a lapse in judgement and felt confident enough that the girls wouldn't try escaping. But lol they did. Michelle, the oldest of the three girls, was kidnapped first and she was literally treated like shit. When she was became pregnant, Ariel Castro literally beat her to so she would miscarry then he got her a puppy and when the puppy tried protecting her, he killed it (By breaking it's neck if i remember correctly). And like the other commenter said, Amanda was like the favorite cause he allowed Amanda to give birth and he would turn the girls against each other.

I remember the first time I herd this phone call and it pissed me off so much, can’t begin to imagine how scared she was and they really didn’t help

No compassion from the dispatcher Uggh 🤮. “Put yourself in her shoes,” that man was more than a hero! I wish him blessings upon blessings.

ERROR NOTE: At 4:46 when Castro’s neighbor is on screen, it says 2003 underneath. That’s when she went missing, so this would have been 2013 or 2014 whenever she was found, just wanted to let you know! Great vid!

Omg, I'm 38 going on 39 and I've never heard of this story in its entirety. This made me cry so hard. Wow, God bless Amanda and all who were saved.

From the neglect of the operators to the guy offing himself, I feel sick. He deserved all of the abuse. Not even 2 months in? 11 years. Disgusting

Disgusting what these operators do. Idc what or how they get spoken to, ur a 911 operator! You get trained and know how to speak to people. Don't get the job if you can't handle treating these people kindly no matter what. Makes me sick..

The fact that Amanda's mom died before knowing that she was alive just breaks my heart
