I'm at a complete newbie to the HX Stomp and I have learned more in this one video than I've learned watching many others, precise and to the point.Thank you so much, this was awesome!
Still coming back to this (July2022) when I get ‘preset fatigue’ (over blown with too much ‘mucky-muck’ added) and I need something I can actually use. Probably (IMHO) the most practical HX Stomp tutorial on RUclips. Many thanks.
Wow! One of the best, most informative HX Stomp videos I've seen, and I've seen a few! Real world application from a true professional. Thanks, Richie!
I just got my HX Stomp this week and walked through your process to set up the strat tone, easily the most musical and usable tone I have ever gotten out of my strat! Also I love your approach in the video, not so fast that I'm lost, even as a new user, but also not painfully slow as these things can sometimes be. Fantastic - just subscribed!
I’m new to Helix and this vid was very informative. I had a similar idea to set up several amps to use for different guitars. I did not realize you could switch from dirty to clean in one preset, so that was helpful to see you set that up. It was very interesting to see your thought process. Thanks for sharing!
Man, your videos have been so helpful. I have an HX Stomp for some time and just by watching a few of your videos over the last couple of days I learned so much and got through so many hurdles that I had with it. You get right to the point and a lot less jargon then some of the other over rated channels. Thank you!
I’ve been unsure recently if I should get either a Strat or a Tele. And so far it’s been Tele for me but when I heard the beginning with the Strat I was blown away. It sounded so good!!! I was sure the Tele was out of the picture until you switched to it. God is it phenomenal sounding. I then realized that it was your presets and playing that made it all sound so good. God I love both but if I had to choose it would be a Tele. So much damn attitude and personality.
Awesome vid mate, I wasn’t sure whether one of these would do everything I wanted it too... after watching this, it seems it will do that and more! Thanks mate, you’ve gained a new subscriber!
Richie, I just ordered my HX Stomp and a have a week before the first gig with it. I'll use your settings as a starting point to get me up and running. Great video. Thanks!!
Awesome! I have the original Helix and almost always use snapshots. I did not think about the possibility of using the stomp mode and switching two amps and enabling a compressor in one of them while under snapshots. Thanks, my Helix just got twice as powerful!
Just purchased HX Stomp recently and watched many "how to" demo's. Some better than others but, Richie I gotta say Line6 should be using you to show their Helix stuff. Learned lots from your vids. Thanks for posting.
Hi Richie. Really helpful this vid. I downloaded the presets and sounds really good with my guitars. Put in a HX stomp XL and test with headrush frfr212. Perfect. Thank you very much for sharing your experience.
I learned a LOT! I’ve been thinking about getting an HX XL. The possibility of switching between two amps with the same footswitch sold me. Because that’s the kind of setup I would want from it Thanks, man 👍
Thanks, Richie. Playing in a cover band, I love the convenience and variety of multi effect pedals, but don’t enjoy all the tweaking. Why can’t manufacturers create decent factory patches? It’s no wonder most guitarists prefer to just use an amp and pedals!
Great video RIchie, appreciate it. I have the full sized helix floorboard, but watching this makes me want the stomp. I learned so much from watching this. I need something smaller and easier to setup and tear down doing the coffee house circuit. Anyway, this was like a master class...best helix video i have seen to date. Line 6 should pay you to do training. Appreciate you sharing this
I love your approach to creating presets. Had the HX Stomp now for a couple of weeks. Had to figure out how I wanted to integrate into my existing pedalboard. Finally decided on using more as an amp/cab model and using the send/receive to loop my delay and mod pedals through the stomp. The amp models are very good. I did use a third party IR. Its worked great thus far.
I rarely leave comments. This video is by far the best approach I have seen to dialing in the line 6 Helix based presets. It is simple and your approach is much more in line with how I used to approach dialing in a pedal board. Focusing on the different guitars but having usable tone makes so much sense. Thanks for the video.
Great video Richie, I never miss anything you put out. Couple of ideas if you need more blocks, say for reverb and a couple of effects. If you experiment, you can find a single amp with enough control of the gain and master to be able to handle both clean and dirty with the same amp. Derailed Ingrid seems to work pretty well for this. Using your Cab high-cut trick, you can control the amp fizz on on the dirty setting without having to sacrifice high end on the clean setting. Presence is also useful for this as it tends to disappear as the power amp distorts more (keep the master higher for this). Amp sag can play the compression role to get rid of that block too. But you have to be pushing the amp a bit to get this to work. But your clean tones do this already, so that shouldn't be a problem.
straight to the point! thank you ! I am looking to get 3 good sounds, clean, Plexi rhythm, and boost lead with delay. from my experience with recording , I remember boosting the mid on lead guitar and low passing to get it to pop out of the mix I just see lead and rhythm as 2 different things
Great video...........................this make it easier to understand for us not so tech players. I have used pedals that are simple but found this box impressive with sounds that can duplicate other pedals and simplify my set up. thanks richie this has been the best video i have seen so far.
Thanks RC! I have been using my Stomp as my main acoustic duo rig, but am now looking to get some acceptable Helix backup "in case of emergency" tones from my Stomp. Love your approach, as always. Appreciate what you do for the community good sir!
Just got stomp to add to collection, have rack and floor …building a tiny board with powerstage 200 and stomp, also ordered live logic board ..thanks fir the great demos ur helping build this killer little board, fir practice ..,m also try to just take my MacBook Pro to practice use native with live logic 😂😂🤘🏾👍🏽
wow.. how much LINE 6 has improved the sounds! distortions sounds really good.. oh my.. I´m an analog guy but.. this do the job seamlessly! I´m thinking in getting one since I work in a cruise line and traveling with pedalboards.. ugh.. hate it. jeje Nice Job Richie!
The leaps they've made with this tech over the last years is incredible. I used to own a Boss GT-8 back in 2006 and the effects were very good, but the amp/cab simulations weren't really usable. This is something else though and it really feels to me like playing through tubes. I think for a cruise ship gig it'd be ideal. If you wanna see how it sounds on Rush and Muse stuff, I have two covers on my channel. Also worth checking out for a ship gig are the Kemper and the Axe FX, but they are on a very different price tier.
So I've had the HX Stomp for 6-7 months now, and I'm so obsessed with dialing in a tone per ONE preset. This video (along with Richie's tutorial on Snapshots) literally opens an endless blueprint on how this little stomp box can be an all-in-one rig for studio/gigs. Per ONE preset, you can switch from clean to dirty amps with just a simple "stomp" with your 3 foot switches. What's amazing is, Richie is utilizing the Stomp BEFORE the "Along Came Polly" update where there were only 6 blocks allowed. So the additional 2 blocks that you gain after the update just gives the end user even more expanded options. That's insane. @Richie - Dude, thank you. I'm not sure if you ever got "stumped" with this Stomp related question, but would you be able to combine this technique with using the Snapshot method? Cheers from Los Angeles, CA btw 🤘
I like that you're just using amp distortion - makes so much sense with a device that has snapshots - and won't deafen anyone like a real amp (unless your monitor volumes accidentally too loud )
This preset is a amazing! Question: Did you use the mono versions of the compressor and delay on purpose? I know it defaults to the mono versions of these things so I am not sure if you preferred the mono versions for some reason?🔥
Fantastic video. Love your approach to creating a great tone. One question tho. Do you use the global EQ in a live setting or just alter the preset on the low and high cuts in the cab block. If you find the tone at a venue not sounding quite right as it should. Thank you Richie ,for your fantastic videos. 👍🏻😎🎸
I bought the Helix LT last Thursday...when I opened it I was like wowow huge learning curve. So the next day I just decided to get the rack version. Saturday the Helix rack arrived...Finally got it going 4cable method using my JCM 2000 n it had killer sounds coming from the factory presets. But seems like a lot for what I do. Now watching this makes me think this might be better! I have to return the LT first...but most likely end up keeping the Rack... and find a $300-400 of this on Reverb.
Thanks for the video. One thing was not clear to me, though. When having multiple things assigned on the same stomp button, how do you set it to alternate and not simply turn them all on or off ate the same time?
These have been working and sounding great! Question: the foot switches have multiple features (example, switch 1 switches heads, adds compressor etc). I notice when playing the switch changes colors like it’s cycling through the various features. Is there a way to stop this so only the head switch status shows? Thanks in advance
Great video man. I suggest to use a looper block to build the sound. It helps me a lot because I can focus on the over 9000 parameters of this amazing stomp 🤓
Hi Richie, I am having the hardest time getting the sounds I hear from musicians like you with the HX Stomp. I have a 91 Strat but it has emg pickups. I don't know if that is the issue but I am interested in the Essex 30 Strat sound you achieved in this video. It is a sound I can never seem to emulate. I have tried through direct recording into Reaper and for live playing. I use a Bose L1 Compact with the T1 Tonematch mixer live with backing tracks. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Rich
It‘s not just your insane knowledge, or playing skills, it‘s the whole how your vids are made. You come to a point without blablabla. ☮️
I'm at a complete newbie to the HX Stomp and I have learned more in this one video than I've learned watching many others, precise and to the point.Thank you so much, this was awesome!
I've watched a ton and you're correct very, very, very concise.
Best of all a minimum guitar playing.....
Thanks Richie
Still coming back to this (July2022) when I get ‘preset fatigue’ (over blown with too much ‘mucky-muck’ added) and I need something I can actually use. Probably (IMHO) the most practical HX Stomp tutorial on RUclips. Many thanks.
Your hands on, candid approach to these demos is excellent.
Wow! One of the best, most informative HX Stomp videos I've seen, and I've seen a few! Real world application from a true professional. Thanks, Richie!

by far the best HX Stomp videos!
Great tutorial Richie. Absolutely the easiest to follow with great pacing and engaging descriptions🙌
Richie, I just ordered my HX Stomp and a have a week before the first gig with it. I'll use your settings as a starting point to get me up and running. Great video. Thanks!!
Those chorusy strat tones in the beginning are totally old school King's X sounding. Sounds awesome.
sounds great! always fun to hear somebody scroll through and dial in sweet amps tones. thanks!
Your patches are now the first 3 spots in my HX. I was burnin was burnin was burnin for them
Awesome! I have the original Helix and almost always use snapshots. I did not think about the possibility of using the stomp mode and switching two amps and enabling a compressor in one of them while under snapshots. Thanks, my Helix just got twice as powerful!
Great presentation, tone and amazing playing.
Someone who gets exactly what this is all about for the gigging musician!
Just purchased HX Stomp recently and watched many "how to" demo's. Some better than others but, Richie I gotta say Line6 should be using you to show their Helix stuff. Learned lots from your vids.
Thanks for posting.
well played sir... well played! You are the Tommy (This Old House) of Guitar & effects.
Hi Richie. Really helpful this vid. I downloaded the presets and sounds really good with my guitars. Put in a HX stomp XL and test with headrush frfr212. Perfect. Thank you very much for sharing your experience.
Richie, this is great stuff! Thanks for making your insights available!
Great info to see your thinking process and explanation on why you pick certain parameters. Thank you!
I learned a LOT!

amazing patches here and very cool secret tweaks/tips that you did there. loved that Les Paul singing lead solo tone. Keep it up!
Thanks Richie. I always learn so much from you. You're playing is awesome and so are you.
Richie. Just got tuned into this channel recently, and you are flying up my “must watch” list. Great stuff.
Incredible walkthrough! This video totally convinced me, just ordered my HX stomp!

Can you choose where the external pedals go in your chain when you use the effects loop? Or is it post only?
Jose Pineda you can choose. Place a blocking’s the chain for the loop and you can move it anywhere you want along the line.

Just bought the HX Stomp because of this video! Thank you!
Excellent video, great tones, and fantastic playing. I just picked up an HX Stomp and this really helped me. Thanks!
Thanks again for this video, Richie. Now that I have an HX Stomp I wanted to make these along with you. I didn’t forget!
Thanks RC! I have been using my Stomp as my main acoustic duo rig, but am now looking to get some acceptable Helix backup "in case of emergency" tones from my Stomp. Love your approach, as always. Appreciate what you do for the community good sir!
Rich , you a master , bro ! Killer tone , Killer player . Line 6 has made guitar playing interesting again ! Thanks for the great vids
You did a tremendous work. Thanks so much for your dedication. Greetings from Chile!!!!

Best video I've watched on creating HX Stomp presets. Thanks Richie!
Came here for the hx but stayed for great fusion/prog playing!!
the minute you played a lead riff, I thought "wow, that is a great Funk 49 Joe Walsh sound"
So I've had the HX Stomp for 6-7 months now, and I'm so obsessed with dialing in a tone per ONE preset. Great video on setting up a good tone with any rig let alone the HX Stomp very very cool thanks
Just discovered this video, absolutely awesome. I would say a must see when you buy an HX Stomp
Killer tones and even better playing!

Really nice video!
Awesome ideas! Keep’em videos coming!
Genius. Richie, you are seriously amazing.
Straight up.
17:22 to 17:27... Damn!
Fantastic, thanks Richie!!!
very informative! Like your way of explaining Richie!
Great video. Thanks!
Dude, you're a genius. Complete control of the tool, congrats =D
great sound
Big thanks for this video!
Awesome tones and learned a lot
Nicely done, thank you sir!
Awesome video - thank you Mr RC!
Very detailed great program tricks very versatile unit :)
This is a great! Stumbled upon this while looking for Line 6 Pod Go presets. Any plans to make a similar video for the Pod Go?
It's exactly the same
I subscribed for those chops 🤟
I'm not even a guitar player, and it helped me. 😂
That was F*&%ing fantastic...
To where do I mail my lesson payment?
I'm 73 years old and needed all the explaining I can get!
Thanks a ton Richie....
" Because I am a crazy person and that's what we do". Made me sub lol.
i had no idea you could use one footswitch to do so much, great video!
Bro when u bringing your dad back, he was so so cool bro
Amazing stuff man!
The Placater Dirty is by far the best amp on Helix in my humble opinion.
Agreed.... Archetype Lead is my 2nd fav
Excellent
Great video.. and great playing 👌🏼
Thanks Rich! Much appreciated!

You know your part, for sure. I'm not a helix user (not yet should i say), never the less it's a great vid...
Brilliant you mentioned IRS how do
you drop in a 3rd part IR into the arrangement? Thankyou
Line6 here this man.
Dang, you rock!!!! Great video.
Thanks for the video. One thing was not clear to me, though. When having multiple things assigned on the same stomp button, how do you set it to alternate and not simply turn them all on or off ate the same time?
This was an extremely useful video for me. Made me think outside the box a bit. Thank you!
Thank you Richie

I do like that idea, but sometimes I’m trying to feel the change too.
Thank you ! That helped me a lot to understand that Helix World ! Best Video I saw about that.
That's genious! Can't wait to try this idea of switching between amps. Thanks, man! glhf
Outstanding
I Love your Videos Great explanation !
