- Here is a little trick that I use with my HX Stomp to get more snapshots out of it. I apologize for the camera not picking up the HX Stomp screen very clear. I will be working on fixing that in future videos.

Thank you this was EXACTLY what i needed! I've seen people selling a piece of plastic that you tap with your foot and it pushes the two buttons on either side of the upper selection knob to change presets, but this double button stomp lets you do that and it's awesome!
Wow !! This is pure gold !! I just bought the HX Stomp and these videos are an excellent school to beginners like me, thanks a lot !!
Thanks for checking them out! Much appreciated. Plenty of the helix videos are also applicable to HX Stomp as well
Thanks for taking the time to do all this stuff. Super convenient to the point saving me lots of time. Have a good weekend
Thanks for watching and supporting! Really appreciate it
Great idea! I’ve just been using an external switch.. fs4 turn delay on/off and fs5 to get to the other modes needed to tune or enable more blocks. This works great because three snapshots get you through most of the song and anything else is just the addition of more gain or effects
That's a great way to expand the capabilities ! I use the MC6 also
Just got the stomp and your videos are why I am keeping it.
So awesome to hear that ! Thank you
Nice one....you've answered a question thats been in my head for a while....this really opens up the possibilities of this unit. Thanks.
Any time ! You can do it with at least 3 presets too so it's pretty versatile if you can get the timing right. Live no one would be able to hear a change
I recently got an HX Stomp and just started exploring Snapshots. That's a cool way to get access to more than 3 if needed. Thanks
Much appreciated !
Steve! This is a great tip for really getting a full use of the Stomp (as you mentioned in the end). Man, if only we saw a demo of you using this method in real-time, we'd get a sense of what to look out for. Overall, great video!
Thanks Charles!
I didnt see all your videos yet .. hehe .. this is a great approach, I m using more the Big Helix than the HX stomp. Your presets are great !! Thanks much for sharing all your work mate
Thanks for checking it out ! Plenty of big helix stuff as well 😄😄😄
Pretty cool man. Might be even easier than jumping around hitting different pedals in a normal pedal board.
Right?! Between turning off and on a boost, drive, delay and verb it's a whole tap dance you dont have to do
Good advice, thanks! I generally do a clean, dirty and lead and use two extra switches for chorus (or another effect) and lead.
That's a perfect use as well! I appreciate you checking it out
Awesome, great way to work the snapshot mode 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
Thanks for checking it out!
Hi Steve love that that tone, nice crunchy overdrive...
This was extremely helpful!!! Thank you!!!
Glad to help! Thanks for watching
I really do appreciate the vid!
I'm giving it a go..
Though, I have a question. How did you get to the preset select mode at 4:27 ? I tried pressing both switches but it does nothing. Do you know how to set this up? Thanks!
It should just be that way. I havent heard of another option when you press them at the same time. What happens when you do? Maybe browse through globals and see if theres options there
Thank you for showing this. I just bought a stomp recently. I have to get ready to set it up to be able to play multiple different songs with different effects like “ Rock pop to Cumbias Salsa Raggae Ska etc just like this. How would you go about it? Should I go ahead and do it this way you showing here using “Snapshot”? Or Stomp Mode just cause some songs I need to change the tempo for the delays etc. I’m also using a wah pedal. Thank you 🙏🏻
Snapshot gives the most flexibility in terms of having specific set tones for songs. You can set it up this way for each genre instead and have each ready with 3 snapshots each
Steve Sterlacci thank you so much Steve 🙏🏻 yes I’m trying to get organized first cause there are about 50 songs I have to learn and get ready to play with the stomp for example separating the different genre of music styles like only Cumbias and perhaps make a snapshot for that style only? Then a snapshot for just Pop Rock/ 80s then Snapshot for Rock/Raggae/Ska
It almost like trying to solve a math problem but trying to keep things simple so when I’m playing and performing at same time it doesn’t become a nightmare 😳🥵 thank you so much for your time and help great videos too 🙏🏻 ☺️👍🏻
@@wildamendez I think if you can get away with as little preset switching as possible you'll be set. Do you have a midi controller?
Steve Sterlacci hello Steve, thank you so much for your time and help! Yes I have a MIDI controller the ARTURIA MINI LAB MKII WHITE ONE ☺️
@@wildamendez any time ! Always feel free to reach out
Great video. I am presuming after that song you can then move on to another set of snapshots using the pedals?
Yep! You can program a whole setlist this way
@@SteveSterlacci Thanks for your reply Steve. Can you change to new set of snapshots mid song? ie using your foot?
@@unhookedunhooked3219 thats what I do in this video. Changing the preset is what activates the new list of snapshots
Very clever, thank you Steve!
Thanks for checking it out !
thankyou ! very informative and just what Ive been trying to work out !
Glad to help!
Wow.. clever moves men, helix must pay you for this .
Unfortunately they dont 🤣 thanks for checking it out
I sometimes hit both footswitches at the same time by mistake. Not ideal when getting ready to solo…. Is it possible to turn off that functionality?
Great suggestion! Thank you!
Thanks for checking it out and commenting!
Hey Steve, maybe check out getting a Disaster Area DMC.micro. This way you have a bank up/down switch and can reduce the tap dancing. Cheers
I've got my Morningstar MC6 for that. I just wanted to show how you can do without the extra gear
@@Dawgley LOL!!!!
Thank you for posting!
Thanks for watching !
Thanks, this is a great explanation for using snapshots!
Thanks for checking it out ! Hope it helps
Exactly what I was hoping it could do! Thank you
Glad to help !
Hey ! This is amazing ! I have written a long song with 2 different ambient settings as an intro, 1 first clean riff with delay, then 1 crunchy rising up riff, then 1heavy distorted punchy riff, then 1 clean long riff, then a punchy distorted riff again, then back to the beginning and ending to the first clean riff with delay, so that's like 8-9 different parts, with totally different pedal configuration and sounds, do you think its possible with the hx stomp ? Thank you for your time and dedication ! :)
I think its doable with this trick as long as the parts of the song corresponds to your snapshot sequence, if its not in order, you probably in trouble using thing trick in live situation, (if you’re a good tap dancer there’s no problem! 😅)
I’m way too clumsy to do it like this. I just stick with 3 sounds
01A is a Marshall 800 that doubles as a clean sound by rolling back on my volume knob.
01B is a 5150 rhythm tone
01c is the same tone just a little louder with some delay.
Theres a new feature called Command Center that you can make 01b and 01c a seamless gapless transition by using a snapshot. This vid is a bit older now
That was so helpful on so many levels! My only question is. How many different presets can you do? Like, you've got 6 different sounds for a song. How many more does it allow you to have for different songs?
With this way you can do up to 3 presets without changing banks of presets. Follow the same steps so you'll have (whatever number you are at, 34 for example) 34A, 34B and 34C all blinking at that preset select menu. Each one can give you 3 snapshots each so up to 9 different sounds within the same preset bank.
And thank you for checking it out ! Always feel free to reach out
Thanks as always, Steve!
Thanks for watching and supporting 😊😊😊
Top stuff, nice one Steve
I appreciate you checking it out
Excellent thanks
Well done
Thanks!
awesome video thank you ,just got this sucker yesterday and just found out it wont work with chromebook so i gotta learn everything till i get a mac or window puter AARRRRGGGGHHHH
Ugh! That sucks lol i hope it works out. Its not too bad editing on the unit
brilliant, man. I know this video was shot prior to it's release, but any thoughts on the Jet Micro for some added flexibility?
Thanks man! I have no experience with the Jett but it looks cool! Seems a little tight but I'm sure its easy to get used to
So you could also make three copies of the preset and use three presets and create three more snapshots for yourself if you really needed to.?
Pure genius
Yes of course!
Here's the issue. Unless there's an audio drop in the song, you're going to hear the audio drop if a chord is ringing out while needing to switch presets. You're loading all that DSP from one to the next and it's not seamless. It's incredibly noticeable to an audience and/or your band members when they hear a glitch in their in ears of the guitar dropping out between presets. Yes if your note or chord has a "break", you can get away with it. In most cases, you're not able to. If you're ok with audio drops, then this is a great idea.
Check out 7:30 of the video where i cover this. If the presets aren't drastically different, the change is a lot less noticeable than you'd think
Yey thank you for sharing.
Thanks for watching! Hope you sub for more HX stomp videos. I've got tons
Excellent! Thank you.
Thanks for watching !
I'm trying to get rid of anything outside of the drive pedals (modulation, time, pitch, etc.). This helps, I just need to put a little effort in and think things through.
@@CraigRMerriman that's really all it takes. The possibilities really are endless to use this. I have it on a board with my drives as well
Very useful. Thank you.
Thanks Guy!
Not at all - I’ve just bought an HX Stomp specifically for gigging (too old to go on humping an amp) and it’s so great that someone is making videos with practical advice for live work. Thank you again.
@@GR-uw7yc any time. Any questions or ways I can help you out please feel free to reach out
Nice trick! Thanks!
Thanks for checking it out!
the thing about changing presets within a song, your sound will cut off.. around 200ms i think.. but still recognizable. i tried this with my midi commander and switching presets between songs will cut sound
If you check out the end of the video, this is addressed. Its 20-40 ms. Itll always be more apparent to yourself and most of the time an audience wouldn't notice. Also depends how drastic the change in tone is
@@SteveSterlacci is there a way to at least eliminate the transition?
anyway, i suggest if you are using only hx stomp as your rig, buy midi commander, very useful..
@@Feitan0123 I personally think it's small enough to not be a huge issue especially in the context of a full band... 20-40ms isnt much longer than a normal pedal switch and MUCH faster than if you have to press 2 real pedals on or off...I have a morningstar MC6 that works great with the Stomp as well but I just wanted to show it as a standalone too.
@@SteveSterlacci i guess i have to update my firmware... i can still hear it when i change presets :(
@@Feitan0123 oh it's definitely audible and a real thing. I just mean comparing it to actually hitting 2 or 3 real pedals, the time it takes to change presets is minimal. In a full band itll go by super fast and unless someone is really paying close attention, won't notice it. Its definitely there though. If you're using the 3 snapshots there is no latency though
Hello Steve, can i program my hx stomp so that first and second footswitch would work as prev/next snapshot and third one could be a tap tempo?
I do believe thats possible with command center. Tap tempo is from global settings
I thought the reason people would have a strong preference to use snapshots to change the settings is to avoid the gap/hiccup that occurs when changing presets? Isn’t this pretty much the same as having a preset for each section? Is this not just changing presets and kinda calling it adding extra snapshots? I may be misunderstanding something and i’m not trying to ask in a jerk-ish way. Thanks for any guidance or help!
Hey Sebastian! This is a work around for using more than the 3 available snapshots. So the 3 on each preset will have the seamless and gapless. This is just a strategy to have the same preset "next door"
Have you ever used the HX Stomp for a gig without any other pedals?
Not needed to yet! But if I did, this is the set up for snapshotting
are you using the word preset and snapshot interchangeably because I can't tell 😅
Nope. Very careful about that
@@SteveSterlacci So confusing to me 😭😭 dont know if i should get a stomp ...
@@boimesa8190 a stomp is an absolute must have IMO. Once you get some time with it, it all makes sense
cool, thanks! =)
Thanks for commenting!
@@SteveSterlacci looking forward to try it when i get mine.. ordered 3 days ago =)
That works, so what happens when you miss, train wreck?
I hope I don't find out 🤣🤣🤣 that's why I get the preset select menu up early and in plenty of time so if I miss hit it I can still get it back fairly quick
So a bank can have 3 presets (A, B, C) each with 3 snapshots? That's 9 different sounds within the same bank. Correct?
That's exactly correct!
@@SteveSterlacci Thank you. Cheers from Italy.
@@rjohnm1 prego!
anyway of getting rid of the gap?
Only the 3 available snapshots will be seamless. But, with addition 2 button FS that people sell, you can use command center to do some more fx bypass/parameter changes as long as they dont cross over
Does anyone know about any way to get rid of that latency going between Presets?? It's not so noticeable on these quite clean tones, but for higher gain metal tones its pretty noticeable and annoying...
Are you using the same amp and similar tone ? The more drastic the change the more audible it'll be.
@@SteveSterlacci I play in a kind of death metal band but theres a section where I need an ambient tone haha... so the gap is pretty horrendous on that... but I just think overall its a weird flaw to have for such an otherwise solid unit... Thanks for your help though bro
@@AlexyKhoury it's not a flaw of the unit it's just a matter of possible technology at this point. To change so much at a time seamlessly will probably never be possible. You will have 0 gap if you use snapshots for the ambient section
Maybe I'm wrong but I thought there were only 3 Snapshots per preset not 5
That's the whole point of the video. With copying the preset over and going to preset select mode, it gives you a second preset for the same tone
could you not just midi program the changes?
You'd need a midi controller. This video is showing how to not need extra gear
Nice to know that HX STOMP has shorter latency than Helix floor when switching presets.
But, do you know if connecting an external FS allows for more snapshots within a preset?
If I connected a two-switch FS, would I be able to save SNAPSHOT 4/5 ?
Great question! Unfortunately, no you are only allowed 3 snaps. BUT with a midi controller you can treat them the same way. I do this with the Morningstar MC6 and people call it "stompshots" and works just as good
@@SteveSterlacci Do "stompshots" work just as good as the original snapshots? No latency with a smooth spill over of delays and reverb?
@@johoch24 yes. You just have to make sure the trails are off
So there's no latency when switching presets?
Nvmd you answered this at the end.
It's definitely shorter than the helix. About 40 ms according to Line 6
Don't you get an issue with the slight latency/silence when changing patches? It's fine in that example as you pause just before the solo. I guess you can only use that trick in the right circumstances.
If you get to the end of the video I do it without a pause. That latency on the stomp according to the Line 6 people is about 40ms so it really just sounds like you're turning a pedal on to me
u just sold a stomp :D
Awesome!!! You're gonna love it. Always feel free to reach out if you need help
I don’t think this is really the major issue you make it out to be. Your sounds are so similar that you could probably do just fine with 3 snapshots and using your volume and tone knobs.
Everyone complains about this issue. I don't really have a problem at all with the gaps. But wanted to share a work around to help others that could use it.
Clear as mud. Now I am really confused. Thanks for nothing...
Hmm. Its laid out pretty simple if you follow all the steps. Did you follow along or skip around? Do you have the unit in front of you with the 2 presets copied and pasted next to one another?
Really useful. Thanks
Thanks John! Hope to have earned your sub. Plenty more Stomp vids on the channel
