- ANTIQUE & VINTAGE SHOPPING I FIVE-CHANNEL RUclips MEETUP
Having such fun reliving our five channel meetup! In this video, I miss the group breakfast but explore a weekend flea market on the way to catching up at Lamon's Antiques, a fantastic furniture and quality antique shop owned by the mother of one half of "Fat Bird Finds."
Joining me at this meetup are: @FatBirdFinds, @RealNiftyVintage, @ThrifterJunkerVintageHunter and "Trusty Huckster Mercantile." If you haven't already subscribed to their channels, I suggest you do if you appreciate antique and vintage items!
The flea market proves that bargains aren't a guarantee, as I find better deals at the fancy antique store owned by Laura's mom! Then Jeffrey, Misty, Patrick, Laura, Mary Beth and I head to Paducah Antique Mall for more treasure hunting adventures.
Each stop reveals it's own kind of interesting finds. The flea market combines cool farm junk and advertising with furniture, tool displays and even a visual history of barbed wire. Lamon's delights include a tremendous 1910s general store counter, a stylish fruit carved mirror and a sweet and ethereal Fox print that Jeffrey discovers and lets me purchase! The antique Mall's entertaining selection varies from mid-century modern lamps and furniture and 1970s vintage toys to a space filled with a century-and-a-half full of clocks.
"Mind your beeswax!" is an oft quoted adage with roots steeped in one of the collectible items we find along the way. A clock that seems to work by magic and a starlet whose short shorts became a household phrase are fun discoveries along our journey.
The best part is the fun we have running around Paducah together! I love finding out that the online world of antiques and vintage translates to the real world as we share our passion and wonderful company.
Here are some more of the items we see along the way in this tour:
Sewing basket, advertising clock, iron wheels, band saw, French bedroom set, flow blue, apothecary bottle, elegant glass, parquetry table, fireplace screen, promotional cars, Kiss doll, Roy Rogers, Hollywood Regency wall lamp, modernist bar cart, Donny Osmond doll, Buster Brown sign, uranium glass Teaberry tray, latex gloves mold, chalkware Western lamps, Woodard patio furniture, etc.

That was great!!!!thanks💖
You are so welcome! Thanks for watching, more every Monday and Wednesday
Another interesting video!
Glad you think so! I had fun with it
I love watching you! Your knowledge could fill a library. I just soak it in. Love when you get together with the other thrifters. What a handsome group of personality plus people. 👅☮💜💜
Love the various personalities in this group, and in the real world antique/vintage business in general! I'm excited to see that it's also true in the online world
Love Jeffery of Real Nifty Vintage. Great guy and channel !
Very nice in person too
Thanks for all the info!!
You bet!
George, I am thrilled beyond belief in the number of viewers and views you have attained. It says two things; 1. George never promised to make you a millionaire, instead he opened your eyes to the endless possibilities there are in all areas of collecting, and 2. An item’s value takes a back seat to the informative history and narrative of those items. It restores my faith in the fact- knowledge and learning are the true money you’ll put in the bank. Your content enriches us all. Thank You!
Rickey, that is so kind of you to say! I remember you telling me that this would grow when you discovered me so early on, I honestly have never approached this as a thing to build subscribers but as a way to encourage greater appreciation and connoisseurship, and to bring the real and online collecting worlds together to extend the feeling of community and comradery I get from them.
So many beautiful things.
That second store in Paducah was especially nice
❤️❤️❤️😃😃😃
Another great adventure & full of knowledge. I saw so many things I would bring right home. 🏡
You and me both! I did bring a few...
That hand is cool, and the history .
I enjoy the hands, I have a couple myself!
I could watch you for hours. I love the explanations & history behind every thing. I for one want you to keep keep going. 😍
Deal! By the way, I'll try to send those butterfly pics asap so we can wrap that up
Nice antique
Loving these collab videos!
I love that you share all your knowledge with us. Thank you so much!
Thanks for watching! I really believe the more we all know about antique and vintage items, the more we can all share the joy of collecting
HAPPY BIRTHDAY GEORGE!! It was such a honor to go treasure hunting with you. I learn more and more from you with each and every video. You are a gracious and great asset to this community. 🥰
Misty I went yesterday to cadiz the store was empty 🙈 you bought all the good stuff 😳
Thank you! I can't wait to do it again, hopefully up your way after your fun vacation ends.
Lol! We didn't get to every shop, I know there had to be SOMETHING left
Awesome video just love learning from you! Your knowledge is amazing!
Awesome, thank you!
❤️
What a fun day!
It really was! I was glad to get to do it
Great fun!!!😁
Thanks for the history lesson! Your knowledge is impressive!! So many interesting things!
Glad you enjoyed it! I love sharing info about antiques and vintage, hope you'll come along for more each week
Happy birthday George from Grand Rapids! As always a great video....Cheryl
Thanks so much! I'm glad I could bring you some fun
Your breadth and depth of knowledge in so many areas is truly incredible. Your ability to share that knowledge in such an engaging way is wonderful. I could listen to you for hours! Thank you so much for sharing.
Thank you so much! I'm really glad to share my excitement and interest in these neat old things
You know your stuff, well done.
Oh thank you, I really just want to share what I know so we all can grow our knowledge!
I always learn something from your videos! Thank you so much for sharing!!
I'm so glad! The last of the meetup videos comes out this Wednesday
Love your knowledge on all the items! Your videos are so cool.
Thanks so much! It was fun having you in the chat tonight.
This was an awesome place to visit luv every thing in there
I agree!
You’re so good ! 👍👍👍👍👍
Oh that's very nice of you to say! I appreciate you watching
Thanks for the great video!!! You are so gracious and find something so nice to say about each person and place. 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍 can’t wait to do it again!
Thank you so much!! I try to see the positive in the places I go, there's usually something interesting and cool to discover anywhere in the antique/vintage world
Enjoyed your knowledge and you are so easy to watch, and hard to turn off my iPad!
Awesome! Thank you!
I like your social distancing comment about the glove mold. 😁
😁 I'm glad you got that, I wasn't sure it was noticed at first!
First time watching you are so knowledgeable.
Thanks and welcome! I love sharing information and taking you along with me. Please subscribe, like and tell your friends!
You've convinced me that I need to visit Kentucky. Another great video, thank you George.😊 Oh, and your use of the hand for nowadays.... Lol.
Thank you for appreciating my dry sense of humor! Kentucky was about 47th out of the 50 states I visited, but it's got a lot more positives than the stereotypes about it suggest, it should be much higher on that list
I always learn so much from your videos. I love the booth you showed showcasing clocks. I have an original “ Moon Beam”. It still keeps perfect time. It’s such a neat piece. I really do think that people should bring back clocks. There is nothing like a good old-fashioned clock.
I really enjoy them! I never kept a Moonbeam because I already had a Big Ben that made a ticking sound I suppose would drive some people crazy, but it lulled me to sleep
The Antique Nomad I love the sound of a ticking clock. I know I’m in the minority. It’s so peaceful.
As always, George, outstanding video and information! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😊
Thanks again! I'm glad you got to see it, this was a fun one for me
it's amazing how you respond to every comment..........you love your fans i see
I try, it takes time I don't always have but bridging the gap between online and real world antique/vintage is very much my mission here!
I learned a lot today from this video, but the part I like best was about the clocks. Thanks, George! :-)
Glad you enjoyed it! There aren't so many good clock specialists left, it was fun to see one there
This may seem silly, but I really appreciate that you wear a microphone. Your voice comes through loud and clear!
I've upgraded my equipment, my earlier videos were not so even so I learned. Glad it's helping!
Happy birthday George 🎂🍧🥂
Thank you! I'm touched that so many people reached out and glad I got to share it with you
I've learned so much from watching your videos. Thank you so much.
You are so welcome! I really want to share info and the fun of collecting with my viewers
I’ve to put Peduca on my list for next time.
Again thank you for all the info, you knowledge is amazing.
I had a great time in Cadiz 👍🏽
I am so glad you enjoyed it there! It's a very sweet little antique town.
I live near High Point, NC!! Love your videos!
Hi Nomad, I could really hear you this time, & no bull horn!!!! You gave a great & concise description on the items you filmed, very informative & interesting, fun shopping with you. I would have bought the Maxfield Parrish too, NICE!!!
Thank you! I'm glad it was more clear. I mis-spoke when I called that a Parrish, it's actually by his competitor, R. Atkinson Fox
@@TheAntiqueNomad Hi again, it does look a lot like a Parrish, as a Fox print, would have bought it anyway!!! Thanks for the correction!
@@TheAntiqueNomad Saved me a questioning comment ... besides the differing style, I doubt MP ever drew a child!
I love watching these videos. I learn so much as you share your knowledge of vintage items and antiques.👍❤️
I'm so glad! My goal is to share information so we can all share the joy of collecting
HI George. Found your channel while searching on You Tube for "antiques." I own a large antique mall in West Virginia. Have watched many shows on TV (American Pickers, Antiques Roadshow, etc) but I think your show is the most beneficial to me as an dealer and owner. Your descriptions of the dozens and dozens of items you show are spot on and provide both entertainment and great knowledge. Keep up the good work! Regards, Bill
Bill, that's great! I love the Pickers and Roadshow, I learn from everyone in this business but I like doing this because I'm showing things that are in places that most people can access. Where in WV are you? I'll have to come visit some time
@@TheAntiqueNomad We are located in the panhandle of WV in a restored early 20th century woolen mill. Just off I-81 about midway between Winchester, Va and Hagerstown, MD.
This was great. There were a few things that I liked in the Lamon store, you walk in and there on the right all the blue and white dishes are in your face. I truly love the Willow pattern and have been collecting pieces to make a complete set for years, so that is one of the first things I search for. Thank you for sharing and you have a great day
Really enjoy your videos. I’m not really a fan of mid century. I prefer things from father back in time but I love learning so newer things are interesting just not something I’d want to live with. My first love are salt glaze stoneware/ crocks from the 1800’s and flo blue. Enjoy seeing what folks are interested in now. Enjoy your videos because you are such a gentleman and little more refined than some other you tubers. Thanks for breaking up these long Covid evenings.
I'm glad to be helping people find fun, knowledge and entertainment during these strange times! I really love true antiques as well as mid-century, I appreciate so many eras but the mid-century is what's selling with the current buying generation (in part because it's not all in collections already).
I agree with you about the necessity of a clock in every home. Love your knowledge.
You bet! It's old fashioned but I can glance at a wall clock faster than I can turn on my computer or unlock the phone
BTW, as a long time sports fan, I found your discussion on the Dawson Springs baseball history was fascinating. And something I did not know.
That's cool! It was news to me when I first came to Dawson Springs. I imagine the history of Spring Training would make an interesting things to study.
Enjoyed the video as always George. And Happy Birthday!
Many thanks! I'm glad you had fun, I enjoyed spending time with the other RUclipsrs and spending my birthday chatting with viewers
I love the "mind your beeswax" trivia! I always try to retain at least 1 bit of info from each of your videos lol I bet if you started hosting classes you'd have a pretty nice turnout :)
I'd love to do that again! I did a short seminar series in an antique mall where I worked once, mainly for the other employees but occasionally for outside "students" as well
@@TheAntiqueNomad if we can ever get past this pandemic... you really should!! ❤
Hi George...this is my first video that I've seen from you and you've won me over. Love your down-to-earth, friendly manner, plus, the knowledge and enthusiasm you show! I will definitely check out your videos at your channel and subscribe to you. Stay safe (everyone) and keep smiling!....Cheers from British Columbia, Canada : )
Thank you so much! I'm glad to have you subscribe and catch up with me. I usually head up to Vancouver Flea Market this time each year but not able this year, I'll look forward to it in the future. Where in BC are you?
@@TheAntiqueNomad You're very welcome George : ) .... I am in the southern interior of B.C., just north of a city called Kamloops. It is great that you come up our way to Vancouver on occasion...and yes, when things get somewhat back to normal with travel, etc., (most likely next year), it would be awesome to meet you and see you there! You're terrific and I love your wealth of knowledge. Plus, collecting should be fun and for the love of it, and you certainly make it fun! Until later, take care : )
Thank you George! Wonderful tour of many things antique and vintage and with your special descriptions and histories included, we are a lucky audience indeed! 😊
You are very welcome, I'm glad I get to go around and show you new finds in old stuff!
Hiya George, seeing all those beer lights got me singing “Ziggy Stardust” (not that I mind loved him since ‘70)😃. There’s another 1st ed of the “Some Girls” album w/ celebs filling each spot worth much more (mine is worth $50-$70), they were threatened w/ being sued (by each or their estate) so had to remove them which is the ed you showed. Love that style vase the Rumrill is, so classic, love the story as well! I adore uranium glass, collect it, sadly I break things (I swear not my fault! have hEDS😡), will check out the video you mentioned, as I love learning as much as possible! My 1st car was a ‘63 Impala, in the 70s when my friends & I were getting our licenses those were the “junk” cars we got for $100-$200! I’m a gear head w/ vintage cars, love them & those were fab! You’d love the grandfather & grandmother clocks we have from the old Western Union offices when they closed & were dumping them😳. My dad saved about 4 of them, they’re beautiful! A little history as to how we got them: my grandmother was a trailblazer, one of the 1st female tele-typists @ WU (crazy, she typed over 100 words a min on the old manual typewriters!) Started as a flapper, retired around ‘70. I’ve got a 90s Bulova mantle clock they gave my dad after 30 years @ NBC but I just noticed it stopped working🙁, was going to sell it since he doesn’t want it & it doesn’t really go w/ my decor @ “Casa Chaos”. Wow such lovely furniture, so much to see, enjoy! TFS! Jet 🧡🎸🎶⚡️
Ziggy played guitar! I had a friend in college whose roommate was a Bowie freak and turned us on to everything he'd done prior to then. I didn't know about the celebrity edition of Some Girls, I'll have to look for that!
My great-grandma was a flapper too, I'm impressed by the women of that generation for earning the right to vote, defying convention and establishing themselves in the workplace. It sounds like everyone in your family was accomplished
The Antique Nomad - I just found your IG & followed (@rockin__rebel 2 underscores), I can send a pic of the celeb album. I think all the editions came in different colour ways as well. Very cool you were turned on to Bowie’s older stuff, what I grew up on! There’s a line in “Ziggy” that goes “with just the beer light to guide us” that’s why it stuck in my head, my 1st mention of a “beer light” at around12! Yes, have a wild, fun family but I’m known as the “wacky rebel” yet my dad did things like renovate a vintage 2 seater airplane & taxied it around our street... hmm who’s wacky?🤣! Flappers surely helped women but it’s sad we still have so far to go. Next time I’m at my parents (it’ll always be my parents even tho my beloved mum is gone- some great stories about her I need to get writing...) I’ll take pics of the WU grandmother & grandfather clocks for you as I know you’ll appreciate them. Oh & the old morse code ticker thing, the telex ticker as well. Grew up w/ these things & now forgot the names! J. XXX 😘🧡😻😻
Ok. I’m old. I am a RN and years ago we had one of those freight scales to weigh people on who went over the limit for normal scales. Ohhh the memories. PS. Thanks for not talking about video games. Urg.
There are only a few video games old enough to interest me as a vintage guy, I must confess that they were new when I was in high school and I thought they were boring compared to playing sports and collecting stuff. That's very interesting about the floor scale, I forget that those old Detectos only went up to 250 I think!
Love this mall adventure. Uranium glass catches my eye, mostly because I’m remodeling a vintage camper to live in off grid and have always wanted a bohemian rhapsody design. Uranium glass would be so gorgeous there I think, if the cats don’t knock it over.
I really like that happy green color and you can order quakehold or museum wax cheaply to prevent kitties versus Collectibles. I admire you trying am off grid lifestyle and vintage campers are awesome
I would enjoy what you purchase to resell.
I do haul videos sometimes, and also show my shop and show spaces. If you ever see anything you like, please e-mail me at theantiquenomad@gmail.com
HAPPY BIRTHDAY GEORGE!!! That was a fantastic tour! There were several items I really liked. Loved the banquet lamp. Would've liked it better if it hadn't been converted, though. Really liked the uranium glass display stand, too. I always really enjoy these premiers!!! Thanks!!!
Thanks so much! I really enjoy bringing them to you, and I thought there were some terrific and true antique items this time
OMGosh! I need that pole lamp. Do you happen to remember if it still works?
I think it did!
I’m lucky to live thousands of miles away across Pacific Ocean and still able to make friends with wonderful UTuber gang you had with you on that day. I enjoy all their vids 🦘🐨🧡
I feel really fortunate as well! I'm very happy to have new friends who share this love for old stuff in places like Australia and New Zealand
Hey George, How was the Petoskey show? Are you a regular there. I’m in Michigan and have enjoyed that show. Hope you did also.
I really did! Getting to do a show made me feel alive again. I wish I could be there for this weekend's event
You are very knowledgeable about these antique items!
I don't know anything about most of these items and value. In that first store in particular, it seems like many are very expensive though and wonder if they find very many buyers for a lot of these things.
Do you ever go to the small antique stores in Illinois? I just came across your channel and love that you are filming at some shops that I have been to. Creatures of Habit is a really cool store!
Sometimes, I like the small shops but often if I'm in a hurry I choose a larger antique mall so I can see more variety in one place. I haven't shopped most of Illinois outside of Chicago yet but hope to soon
Saw Mary Beth, Fat Birds Finds, scoot past in vid in Laura’s Mums shop . Once again loved your entertaining vid George 🐨🧡💖🦘
Yes they're really great gals and I'm so glad they took us there on a day when their mom usually wouldn't have been open, we all had fun and we all bought stuff
Hi George!! Sorry my text sent before I asked you☺️ I would love to see your wax floral arrangement 🙏🏻 I spent my years as a florist.
Sounds great! I'll try to grab it before I leave Florida
Fox hunting is alive and well in England as well as the USA.
Is it still? I heard it had been banned in England and Wales back in 2005, at least in terms of using dog teams
Learn a lot from you
Thanks! I enjoy sharing with you all
We had a West clock moon glow clock. It was my moms, and I used it as a young teen. If we only knew what we had....its long gone now....
They're very cool!
I find more “deals” at antique stores or malls, than I do at thrift stores for resell. Never count those places out. You may need to dig a little harder but, they’re definitely there. 😉
So true! Sometimes I find good things at thrift stores, but a lot of better items are found in places that specialize in them, and not all of them are priced out of reach
💗
Hello ! I would love to see
I had fun with you in the chat tonight! What would you love to see?
I should rephrase that. The beautiful sport of "fox" hunting continues without the fox, replaced by "drag" hunting. Dragging a scent for dogs to follow. You can find great go pro hunting videos on You Tube. BTW love your channel.
That's cool! I didn't know they were doing that. It's rather majestic as a sport, that seems like a nice compromise for the fox
Happy Birthday! I missed the live, I'm painting and was losing light. I have a few things you showed today, my mom's sewing stool and also have the wood sewing box, 10yrs ago at Goodwill $2.50. I have 2 of the glove moulds, what were they selling it for?
I hope you had a great day. ❤💋
Thank you! I'm glad you got to enjoy creating art. The glove moulds go around $20-25 now
@@TheAntiqueNomad thank you.
Loved this one just like all the others. Come to my house &’pick! I need to downsize; would make an entertaining episode. Hopefully, i will catch ur live!
Where are you located? That could be an interesting time
Why is there nothing available in your ebay shop? I'm not in the US, perhaps I'm blocked from seeing it.
I'm TheAntiqueNomad on eBay. I really only have books and sports cards currently listed but I'll try to get some other things up soon
18:00 reselling it for more . Tacky
I must beg to differ, I sold it to them out of an estate sale lot because that client needed a quick sale to settle probate. They bought it from me so they could take the chance that given a longer time to sell to a decorator, they might make a profit... But there's the risk that it won't sell too. That's the business side of the antique market that's a dealer reality but not visible to collectors
I’ve also decided that I need a “George” on my contact list so I may snap a picture of something and send it... “What is this and is $13 a good deal”? 🤣
:) I'm that guy sometimes, and sometimes I have to send the pic to an expert in a given area! I love the collegial and mutually helpful nature of the antique and vintage world
George helped me earlier this month with three items. Such a good guy!
Hi
Hello! Nice to see you here
