I love this. One thing I've been trying to find out though? Can you do any permanent infusions e.g demonic/undead transformation that can carry on to your next match? E.g taking your faction fully down a path and being able to start as Undead?
This game is looking fantastic, great job, I can't wait to play it! Also awesome that you announced it so close to completion, love that, and can feel the passion from the devs all the way through this content.
In a year in which we get a mainline sequel to many of my all time franchises (Zelda, Diablo, Baldur's Gate, Final Fantasy) each of which looks incredible and everything I would hope to get in said follow up, it's actually Age of Wonders 4 that I am the most excited about and it's not even close.
New Zelda looks meh - lack of dungeons (the best part of the Zelda series) BOTW is one of the worst in the series and the next one looks like more of the same. Diablo is the same braindead, mindless, repetitive, attack spam dungeon crawlers its always been, BG3 wont come even close to being as good as 2. Final fantasy peaked at FF6 and has gotten progressively worse ever since. Not a whole lot to get excited about really. AoW 4 does look somewhat promising though... so its not all bad I suppose.
I feel like they look kinda janky and weird. In this video even, turning the units into flying demons sounded cool af…. Until he did it, and the units kept the same basic weapons and even appearances. The mounts didn’t even change. 🙃 Feel like it looks like a weird slapped together system. Everyone will find the same two or three major transformations that are best, or coolest, and the rest will be saved for ai rng choices
@@Impossible-Kid I don't doubt that the best 2 or 3 transformations will be found, but this isn't really the sort of game where people pick just the best and keep playing those over and over since it's not competitive. I think people will tend to do themed playthroughs, and it'll be more roleplay-ish.
@@Thornscale This one gets it. Hell, the main appeal of the Age of Wonders series to me ever since Planetfall caught my eye has been the roleplaying potential, which led me to go back to AoW3 as well. Super hyped for 4 and these heavily customizable races and leaders!
I love the aesthetic and design direction! The Paradox connection really improved the UI as well, it's both a pleasure to look at and very utilitarian with the use of nesting hyperlinks. Excellent job guys, I have the premium edition pre-ordered to hopefully help incentivize supporting the game with new races, magic tomes, units, cultures etc. for as long and frequently as possible.
I’mma be pre-ordering this game for my friend and for myself not only for both of us to play but to help support the game. We both love age or wonders, and hope it can continue with the astounding work they do!
I love the way they've designed different fairies for each season: Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter, each with different spells and abilities. It shows how much thought has gone into improving on, yet keeping to the spirit of AOW 1, 2 and 3. I really can't wait for May 2nd to come around.
The visibility of the transformed units will be the main reason for replayability in my opinion. Seeing how the different tomes affect the way races and empires are represented really brings the game to life. I hope that one of the main points of future development will be the implementation of new visualizations. i envision adaptation, evolution and combination of different effects e.g. fire and frost make blue flames like arthas the lich king and necromancy and fire make violet fire. I just like to see crazy stuff in the end 😀
With every video I make sure that I want this game. I even save money to upgrade my PC, so that at least at minimal settings, but to play this masterpiece. And the ability to change your units of measurement is another plus in this piggy bank. I'd be lying if I didn't say that I adore people and how much I want to experience new opportunities with them. Create a nation of people who are fanatical about wildlife, or people of darkness. Corny? Maybe, but it's my choice, and I like it.
I am SO excited for this! This way of developing your units over time, and choosing exactly what bonuses you want to use, is gonna lead to some REALLY cool builds. Not just "X unit gets Y upgrade when you research a tech", but rather, investing resources for enchantment modifications, or choosing which of the available major transformations to use, is AWESOME.
Really interesting that they're using content creators to create the tutorial videos - smart, if you ask me. Given that this is literally what they do.
This game looks complex, I love it! Please make sure you give it the same treatment you did with CK3 (which was great), where mousing over everything gives an explanation or description. It goes a long way!
I really don't like that they're sticking with the six unit army cap. The biggest battles in the game are going to feel like minor skirmishes compared to Warhammer 3's epic scale.
@@Dark3nedDragon Warhammer 3 has up to 80 units on the field at the same time, with more being able to come in through reinforcements/summons. Each unit can have up to 180 entities, as opposed to the 3 in this game. We're talking thousands of models in even a medium sized battle. The difference in scale is not even close.
The best thing I miss from Planetfall is the possibility to customize your units with different weapons, mods etc. Please make it possibile even in AoW4 and it will be the perfect definitive 4x game. I have all the AoW since I was a kid, some of them even in double physical copy, please make me happy.
Will we be able to create our own heroes to recruit them later in our empire or as neutral heroes? In AoW III we could do it with mods, but it would be great if the game included that option. Playing with (or facing off against) heroes created by you or your friends, and meeting them on the battlefield, is always a fun experience.
From what I gather, it sounds like the new Pantheon system may do something similar. They describe it like this: "The Pantheon is where you collect your Ascended rulers, each ruler you complete a Realm with may ascend to your Pantheon, from where they may aid or hinder future conquests." Not sure if it will apply to individual heroes, however.
This game legitimately looks amazing, but also aesthetically very polished. The UI for example looks well done. My hope however is that races will feel very unique and play differently. I would hate for factions to all feel mechanically the same with mere differences in bonuses and modifiers. I think for me that would make a big difference in how I receive the game.
Please add some options to start in team coop vs the AI. Too many 4X spawn you too far from your friends to interact in a timely manner, or stuck in a corner with zero room for expansion. There's a sweet spot to coop placement. Also messing around with diplomacy to troll your friends can be occasionally fun, but a permanent alliance VS an AI team is typically what my group is looking for.
The transformation spells, enchancements really made this game replayability amazing especially compared to other similar games. Probably the closest is TW: Warhammer Immortal Realm. There only one issue im currently having is there weird stall in game with off chance of crashing after each research is completed. Though i guessed this will be fix later on.

I would expect the Major Transformations to be VERY expensive in mana and casting points. Would you really rather to that instead of summoning some powerful units or such?

"Transformations apply to entire race i.e., even on units not under the castor's control"
Would it makes easy to just snatch a city from AI to become a race keeper and cast a major transformation that might not synergize with rest of the skills and tomes available with AI resulting in an easier win?
You'll need to control the majority of the race to do that. At that point you should probably be able to win without it.
I think at the point you become the keeper (at least 40 %) you allready defeated that AI anyway.
I would expect the Major Transformations to be VERY expensive in mana and casting points. Would you really rather to that instead of summoning some powerful units or such?
game look awesome, BUT multiplayer will have same issues as the 3 :'(
What about evolutions? Can units still evolve into different, stronger units once they hit a certain xp level?
Some definitely can. Spider can become spider matriarch, lesser elementals become greater one and peasants become men at arm
I have a small question: Will this game have an Underground portion of the map like AoW 3?
Yes. They had an early livestream of a "deep dwarfs" faction you should check out.
@@SquigglyBeasst Awesome! I'll do that. Thanks so much! :D
@@yamahadrag69 Also, some of the Realm types(random map variations essentially) seem to have a "Deeper Underground" theme, which might mean several layers of underground, or a map without the surface at all! (or maybe something else entirely, it's not known yet, but given that AOW1 or 2(forgot which) had a 2nd underground layer, who knows).
Do units gain abilities as they gain ranks or is it just a stat buss on each rank?
both, i think they have 5 or 6 ranks and two of them (i think "Elite" and "Legendary") give them a new ability or passive that seriously enhances them
Yeah, in the latest dev stream with feudal humans, it was shown that archers get some kind of precision shot passive at a certain level.
Wait, so can demon cavalery fly? Only the raiders have wings. It looks wierd tbh.
They will grab the mount with their feet to fly over obstacle when needed.
Is there an estimate on how easy, and to what extent, we can mod the game?
They're releasing a mod guide with the game, I believe. So, very easy.
@@Dan-vo7vc I came to say this but you already did 😂
@@danielsgamerprofile4067 great minds... ;)
PENGUINS!!!!
I'm going for a chaos/order build, then I will conquer an entire race.
Then I'm goingto transform one in demons and the other in angels
I can't wait for plantfall 2
