Hello. Thank you for the video. I have a question, if that's alright, on start settings from advanced set up. In some of the other videos, the settings have something called a handicap for the player-players. If one is playing in multiplayer, would one be able to modulate difficulty for different players by selecting varying handicaps? Or is there some other way to differentiate difficulty for players on the same map?
Haven't played an Age of Wonders game before - but I've been devouring these videos, it looks so fun and the art is absolutely gorgeous. Definitely will be grabbing this! May have to try Planetfall to tide me over. Also love me some Potato! Props to the marketing/social media team, great idea.
You should be able to find AOW3 for cheap (5 euros with DLC) It is also worth the shot at that price. Clearly planetfall has mechanics closer to this AOW4 since it was the testing ground for some of the changes but AOW3 is worth it nonetheless.
That’s exactly what I’m doing, I fired up planetfall just so I could get used to the mechanics. And tbh I’m enjoying it a lot more now than I did when I picked it up initially
I have played a ton of AOW3, but I don't recommend you buy it now. The mechanics are far behind AoW Planetfall, and while it was brilliant, that was a long time ago. The series has had big leaps in development with each product. If Planetfall doesn't strain your budget, sure, get it. It's great and learning the mechanics will give you a head start on AoW4. But AoW4 seems to be improving on everything in Planetfall that I had any issues with. So you could also hold out because, yeah, like you say, AoW4 looks dynamite from these previews. If you can't wait for 4x fantasy fix, get AoW3 with both expansions. You won't like the halflings, but get that expansion anyway.
Honestly I loved how maps were done in AoW3. How every single tile was hand crafted and create a unique, vibrating world. Where you could build in triggers like when encountering the bridge spanning the lava stream in the frosting campaign. I have 1000 hours in singleplayer and 0 in multiplayer. So I care a lot about pve and how the map looks like. Also check out mods in the workshop and you can see what is possible with aow3. Good scenario to get an impression of the beauty of aow3 is The fate of Emrilia. A pity and to me it feels a bit cheesy with the sector management which was Mai of introduced because of ai incompetence. Nonetheless, I’m looking forward to this game.

I haven't yet won a single map, and the game has no way of letting me know where I'm really going wrong. There are so many interlocking factors at play that it's overwhelming. @@AynenMakino There isn't really any magic tomfoolery that you need to be exploiting to win - as long as you're making the most value out of your resources as you can, you'll usually win, the ai in planetfall isn't very tough. I remember the dev stream that played with this, and there were lots of options for most of the 8 different traits you could customize. Kinda channels the roguelite genre some into 4X, where they likely expect us to win or die relatively soon. Then try something new, maybe some new options that we've unlocked from previous campaigns.
Can you have 2 underground maps like the original Age of Wonders had? My favorite stage in the good questline was helping the dwarves find their lost capital in the deeps. Damn, I will have to go back and play the OG AOW now... See what you did Potao!!!

I feel like this is one of the few (possibly first) games i have seen with literally near unlimited replay ability because of all the map creation options. And you could even do a series of maps to tell a story ^.^
My favorite kind of map to create can be described as a mega flora world. In Planet fall, for example, I start with the frontier world template and then remove the mountains, lava and deserts. Then, I max forests and wet lands. Water is limited to lakes and the growth faction is enabled and set to aggressive. I look forward to finding similar settings in AoW 4.
I hope there will be special type of scenario where the whole map is broken into diffirent realms with different rules for each (you can customize them) , and you can travel betveen them thru portals and special spells. Something like warhammer AoS I think it just would be a fan narative of capturing small "worlds" or getting fending off literally alien invaders from another world.
Sooo..... how to make a realm with every biome? when i look at youtube videos i see desolate, Ice.. lava/fire. Desert Dunes... i dont really noticed a choice where you get Everything or at least most of it. like mostly gras/greenery but over here is a Ice/snow covered area. over there is lava and dark area etc... i would love to make a island with a little bit of everything or most of it "when it comes to greens, snows, lava etc"... but it seems you can just be stuck with 1 of these on the entire map. unless you use a preset one made by the developers.
I really hope that there are more non conquest game modes, like peaceful victory or adventure mode. In peaceful victory you must only use diplomacy to resolve conflicts, or only use armies to defend, never invading. In adventure mode you should defeat a boss, controlling a Kingdom that cannot expand. It would also be nice to go beyond alliance and merge empires. I don't know how it would be implemented though.
I've played all the Aow and I'm really looking forward to the new one, the only minor thing is that all the mountains look the same. Or so it seems to me. For example in Aow 2 the mountains in the desert looked different than the volcanic ones etc. I think it would help bring more variation to the strategy map, but otherwise I can't wait!
Do we unlock more of those preset options like the pretender Brothers and first queen? I feel like those will be great as long as there's more then just 2
I hope campaign have some good conclusion and progression, Age of Wonders 3 story is all over the place. It's turn based, don't be stingy with triggers and some text or events. Gives us a bit immersion.
please tell me i can create a random map without neutral independents cities or factions, only me and the enemy AI, is it possible? this is a huge make or break for me
Nice job Potato This game looks great. I’ll have to see if I can run it on my system but definitely interested. Maybe a weird question but would AOW ever be released on iPad? I think 4x games would do really well on tablets since it’s turn based
Will we be able to switch between simultanous and classic turns? Sim is prefered for the vast majority of the game, but when things get gritty me and my friends prefer to switch to classic since that's possible in Planetfall. This also helps for games that are hybrid between asynchronous and synchronous. We need to know!
The game look promising, tough I don't enjoy so much the art style even tough is more enchanted than the previous, the design of the cities look boring compared to the AoW 3, especially the elven cities look les majestic in my opinion.
I think the cities will show their progression a bit more than in AoW3 with wizard towers etc. So maybe in late game you will be amazed with their splendour.
@@presentprogressive8780 Isn't that usually up to Sony/Microsoft? I always thought cross-platform play was more of an issue of beaurocracy than any technical challenge.
@Washeek_Honey like their other game stellaris. I found out that it was more about management than actual gameplay. And it was very difficult to remember to do the thousands of things that they wanted to keep up with. I know that this game is going to have some management to it as well but I hope that it's not to complicated.
@@thetruth3611 Then you may be delighted to hear that Stellaris is done by a completely different studio and Age of Wonders is a continuation of a long standing series conceived when these guys were still independent. Also, I've found out in the previous games, that just following the event system notification in each turn allowed me to streamline the gameplay - this army hasn't moved yet, this city is not producing anything, you could recruit a hero now etc. But ofcourse chances still are that the game may be outside your comfort zone. Give it a try I think, you'll quickly find out...
i like felxibility, but for me this seems a bit too much. I would love to have a real campaign and real races with special traits and advantages and disadvantages not only mix and match everything. I hope i am wrong, really looking foward to play it.
Forms just being effectively profile pictures is definitely.. sad. I get it, they're doing a multiverse thing, all possible options, etc etc etc. But I like my fantasy to feel like fantasy. I like to live up to the fantasy presented by a cohesive racial identity, and trait picknmix just doesn't do that. Gonna play it and love it anyway, I'm sure.
I have to repeat what I've said in the forums. This is not cutting it. I'll never buy AoW4 for this lack of a proper map editor like its predecessors had. I don't understand why you went with the generation road only. These maps don't look well designed, they don't make any sense. We had the same issue in AoW 2 and 3 where these also existed. But without a map editor there is no way to create our own maps, tell our own stories and create our own worlds to play in. And without that, AoW4 is just not interesting anymore.
The sideways scrolling in this video was very uncomfortable to watch...please dont do this next time... apart from that AoW 4 will be game of the year if not decade.
Just pick and choose which parts of the world are going to try and kill you and how often!

Do we unlock more of those preset options like the pretender Brothers and first queen? I feel like those will be great as long as there's more then just 2
OK, I've done it! For the first time in my life, I've pre-ordered a game! :D
Why is the screen stuttering when you move over the map.
Shouldn`t it be more smooth?
can you make earth? lord of the rings? narnia? as some examples
These tutorials are fantastic. Looking forward to victory conditions!
Good thing there is an option of playing this video in 0.75 speed ;)
had to lower speed to 0.75, the talking is so fast!
Potato is the official voice of AoW4 now? Cograts
I hope campaign have some good conclusion and progression, Age of Wonders 3 story is all over the place.
It's turn based, don't be stingy with triggers and some text or events. Gives us a bit immersion.
I've heard that the AOW 4 campaign can be played with a custom faction, and it's tailored for that kind of experience.
Woah woah hold up, Artica is in the game by default? Are other classic wizard kings returning?
Yep, Karissa, Fangir, Artica are confirmed.
Never have I been so excited about a 4X Game…
Yaay, new video!
Ooooh, ice realm filled with undead wild life
Aye!!! The potato man is here
i cant wait to see if empires mode returns and what it will entail
One Realm I'm gonna make is just Hell.
i saw that dire penguin triumph
Please add Ukrainian localization!
👍options, options, options...
That lava does not look good
Is that potato narrating?
I want hotseat settings
please tell me i can create a random map without neutral independents cities or factions, only me and the enemy AI, is it possible? this is a huge make or break for me
In the video on PotatoMcWhiskey's own channel, a trait "No Free Cities" is visible in the menu, so I think that's a confirmation.
I wonder if we'll be able to recreate the Shadow Realm from Shadow Magic. It would require void spaces... Maybe when the Eldritch expansion comes out?
Nice job Potato
This game looks great. I’ll have to see if I can run it on my system but definitely interested.
Maybe a weird question but would AOW ever be released on iPad? I think 4x games would do really well on tablets since it’s turn based
art looks so nice
Will simultaneous turns finally allow players to continue doing things while other players are in combat?
Will we be able to switch between simultanous and classic turns? Sim is prefered for the vast majority of the game, but when things get gritty me and my friends prefer to switch to classic since that's possible in Planetfall. This also helps for games that are hybrid between asynchronous and synchronous. We need to know!
thank you for making age of wonders 4. will you take the honor of making heroes of might and magic 4? 😍
I just pre-ordered the game today, I liked planet fall enough to tell I'll like this one too - I just hope the music is just as good.
Oh that feeling when a new video comes out.....🤤 it's wonderful
so excited! already pre-ordered!! it all looks so good, love the map customization
Love the ost song in the background, yeah I like this details
Will this still have AI battles like Planetfall and AoW3? I love watching my units act on thier own for RP reasons.
Yes, you can let the AI take over and battle for you while watching. Devs said so in one of their streams
@@Hlieyto TY! Must have missed it.
Finally, I can create Dorne AND Valfenda ❤
That sneaky balor reveal, ooooh, big red demon.
Is there a chance of adding Sirons to the game?
So you can make a Dark Souls world, excellent.
PO-TA-TO.
"Mega fauna" - shows penguin.
Giant direpenquins confirmed?
🐧 😈
Mage fauna supposedly functions on all animals and imo dire penguins have been classed as animals in AoW3, so I think you're right.
is there a random world generation button? missing the surpirse effect here /:
Not yet. Many of us hope for this button too
Live stream this week?
Did I just hear Artica? Omg, now we just need Karissa and were all set. Cant wait to play the game 😊
They are both presented to be in the game from the beginning!
@@nerrti2073 amazing, thanks for increasing my hype haha :)
I hope there is an Empire Mode like Planetfall where you can collect multiple realms under your Champion/Wizards control.
Yes, there is! It's called Pantheon here, they even added some other features as well!
@@L4sz10 That is good to know. Thanks 🙂
@@lionelwhiskerknot anytime!
Really really want to buy, but does anyone know if this game will be cross platform in multiplayer?
Not upon release. But they said that they are thinking about adding it down the line, "thinking" being the operative word here.
@@presentprogressive8780 Isn't that usually up to Sony/Microsoft? I always thought cross-platform play was more of an issue of beaurocracy than any technical challenge.
you should wait for release then. the devs said they will coment on it later. I guess they tell us more around release.
I'm really looking forward to this game. I just hope that it's not too complicated.
Hi, what do you mean by complicated? Are there some games you've tried and found complicated?
Will it have a hotseat?
Yes
@@L4sz10 Thanks ^^
@@brianlopez5728 you're welcome ^^
Killer Penguin? XD
Yes, most long term layers of the series have a story about losing to an infestation of vampire penguins 😂
Have Hotseat?
Yep
@@L4sz10 Thanks ^^
@@Veraklyon you're welcome ^^
how many story realms?
Five.
@@L4sz10 i need more story
@@totalice734 according to devs, they are pretty long the way they are.
@@L4sz10 if they are longer then age of wonders 3, then it is good
i like felxibility, but for me this seems a bit too much.
I love how this game is looking so far. But is it just me or does AO3 realms and maps look more appealing to this?
Cal me odd, but i don't like it that everything is customizable.
