- Its BIG support if you go get some MERCH! rudysadventure...
I pick up another project! Although based off of the Cherokee design this is far more unique, this is a Comanche!
I got lucky enough to buy it for $600! Although it’s not running, we soon change that.
Thanks for watching!

I'm glad young men like yourself are taking on these projects and putting them on YT. I'm too old and easily irritated to still be working on trucks like these, so I live vicariously through you guys.
How be you ??
I am 57 and no one believes I am. Genetics keep me very young looking . Still have a full head of hair no gray or white .. I won't fix junk, got screwed to many times ..
Rudy, I had a Commanche for about ten years in southern Arizona; my 13-year-old grandson learned to drive off-road in it. He went up hills in 2-wheel that the expensive Jeeps needed 4-wheel. As to the sagging headliner, it came down, I painted the ceiling flat black and I never looked back. I took the 'manch went from Arizona to Vermont, and a couple trips from AZ to Alaska and back. Loved it, but think about bucket seats. Janelle is a sweetheart. Be sure to acknowledge her contributions; I love to see her smile.
I didn't realize when I rode in it what shape the Comanche was in when you bought it. It runs and drives great! Well done Rudy!
Ruuuuuuddyyyyyy
yall do good work keep it up. you to ruuuuuuuuddyy
Hey Trevor you should start making videos about your adventures with Matt and the team
i subbed to your channel also trevor When can we see the projects and adventures of yours
It's Trevor!!!
9 times out of ten when a 4.0 quits its because of the fuel pump. Bought two xjs cheap because of that issue. Good video. Love that you and your dad keep the old 4.0s alive.
Rudy, sometimes when you can’t stand to wait for a new fuel pump, reversing the polarity on the old one will make it spit out whatever junk is in it. I know it sounds stupid but I’ve had it work more than once to get a car started until I can replace the pump.
Good to know, thank you.
Sometimes a hammer works. I have an old tempo that wouldn't start after it sat for 45 mins and had run fine before I shut it off. Before I called for help (I couldn't hear the pump) I pulled the bottom of the back seat loose and took the tire iron and smacked the floor a few times and it started right up. That was a year ago, I left the seat unhooked and have had to give it smack a couple more times. It will leave me stranded sometime but I keep pushing my luck.
Nice find. Janell is awesome. I cringed when I saw her kneeling in her nice boots. She has a pair of work boots due. I also work a lot on the floor. Watching you work on the wiring harness made me laugh. I am now 70 and it wasn’t too long ago I started using those fold up plastic tables from Costco. Rudy don’t take 50 years to wise up like me. Lol. I realize you are still setting up your shop and you’ll get there in no time.
My first vehicle was a 1986 Jeep Comanche. It was usually in the shop but when it wasn't it was the best. I took it places 4 wheels shouldn't go and had a great time. Loved that truck.
had a 91 Camanche 4x4 2.5liter and paid 400 dollars for it. pulled it out of the woods. rebuilt the front diff. they have to match. fixed the airbox, tune-up, and oil change, the usual. then it would fire right up and run for a while then die. found out it was the brain box. used one at the wrecking yard and fixed it. sold it to a cousin for college. last i heard it is still running great.
Good deal on that older truck and that other engine. It's fun getting rare vehicles to restore and bring back to life.
My brother had a 4x4 Comanche when we went to college together. It was a great truck from what I remember. 😅
A friend of mine has a lifted 4x4 Comanche that looks really awesome.
I'm all about coveralls; I still have a few pairs from when I was in the Navy, and use them all the time.
Definitely restore it! with a trick suspension, (four wheel drive of course!)👍
Those subscribers are climbing man keep on going! Great content!
Awesome... never thought I'd see one of those ever again. Good luck with it.
Awesome! Congratulations on the "RAD" new ride can't wait to see what you do with it.
my brother had a 4x4 truck kinda like this when i was younger , it had like a 10 inch lift ,, i like it buddy , be safe
Janelle can dispense and apply never-seize without getting it all over everything. She's a keeper!
My uncle had a Jeep Comanche for the longest time. It was a cool little 4X4 truck IIRC, but it had issues with the transmission.
I had a 88 Comanche Chief 4x4 ! was my first decent vehicle, bought it in 92.
My first truck was a black 92 Jeep Comanche. Wish I had it back! I always wanted to 4x4 swap it and swap a front clip from a newer Cherokee
I'm a jeep pickup guy. Always loved them, but I preferred the quaderatrac either 1/2 or 3/4 ton full size pickups. Never understood why the little Comanche was made in 2 wheel drive. Be interesting what Rudy comes up with.
Cool. I gonna enjoy watching the next videos you produce about this truck.
I love when people replace the front clip with the later Cherokee Sport. They swap right over I believe. They have such a clean look.
I added one last year 4.0 4wd 5 speed shortbox. Loove it
I love those Jeep Comanches. You see them here in EP TX from time to time. There's 3 for sale that I know about
A beauty Jeep, had an XJ Limited 1988, all the Best
Rudy I'm a long term fan of Matt and Paul but I have to tell you I really like your channel and will keep watching for sure. Gonna get a merchant order in from you too. I love how your starting from scratch without all the luxury of hoists and a fully set up shop! GREAT JOB. Don't know who Jenelle is but she's getting her hands dirty, looking forward to more content! Is the Jeep going to be a rock crawler at some point?
My friend in high school had that exact same one except for it was red I always liked those things.
I hate those rat jobs! I just went through a similar situation. 86 Dodge 3500 winch truck that has sat 30 years. The Rats just loved those wiring harnesses! You've got you a nice project. Anxious to watch what you do with it!
So excited to see where this goes. My buddy and I both had Commanches in high school. His was a manual, mine was an automatic with a 3" lift.
Could've had one of these (4x4 model) as my first real vehicle...but the seller wouldn't return my dad's calls or texts. It was a deal, too: 3k, it was either camo wrapped or painted, the fender flares and trim panels were rhino-lined (as was the bed), it had a small lift, cames with the factory wheels and tires _and_ a full set of all-terrains, and I think it had less than 100k miles on it (if it was over, it was _just_ over, but this was 12 years ago, so details are a little fuzzy, now).
If I had gotten that instead of the S10 I ended up with (which, was still a great truck, itself), I'd probably still have it.
My Dad liked Cherokees and had a Comanche also, but it was a 4cyl 5 speed
My wife has one of these it's red 3 liter engine two wheel drive it's cool possibly going to do a four wheel drive conversion on it !
Need more Commanche videos! Keep them coming!
Good score from my hometown!
Crusted old comanche - living our dream 🛠🛠🛠
AHHH Renix..... I had an '87 XJ I was able to avoid wiring issues but it always made me nervous.
Spewing we never got the Comanche in Australia
I was waiting for you to check air filter for nest or chew up hole in it.....
Keep Janell happy ok get her gifts and tell her she is appreciated in the shop
WOW that's super R.A.D can't wait to see what you do with it
4 cylinder ones were so gutless a geo metro would kick your ass and get better mpg's while doing it.
And the freezing of the front differential selector really pissed me off. I do like the old J trucks.
6 cylinder and manual locking hubs. Your good
Cool little truck. Always liked those. Looking forward to see what you do.
Love your "bad hair day" cap.
Better Lighting is needed. some areas are dark to see what your doing..
Gotta say it I love the Comanches and hopefully I can find one for myself eventually. The modern gladiator do a massive injustice to the Comanches in my opinion
Keep up the good work love watching on RUclips
great job Rudy
C101 connector I just deleted mine and wired it direct.
What comanche years should I stsy clear from? What prices should I expect to pay?
What should I look for when test driving them?
Thanks for the video. Cute truck.
Fantastic, brilliant.
I can't believe the shape of that. I have a pair of Dana 44 axels a tranny with a transfer case would go sweet with it
Grab some impact sockets rudy those chrome ones aren’t great for impact guns
I need a Comanche to go with my j20!
Once I got my jk8 I had hate for those
This lady down the street from my house has one just parked. It’s been years doesn’t want to sell it
Good one. Keep it up.
Love it!! Being 2wd... mini truck build?
janelle is a smokeshow !!! your a lucky man !! definitely show more of her
the lug nuts had caps but their long gone causing the socket to hang up
Janelle got a dumpy 👏🏾
You're right... there is ABSOLUTELY NO GOOD WAY to get into coveralls.
You either dislocate a shoulder, or a testicle.
Sometimes both, simultaneously.
Cool truck. Cool chick.
Tríes to shut door…looks confused when it doesn’t shut. 2 seconds later forgets door doesn’t shut and tries it again 😂😂
What kind of straps were those that he used to hold that vehicle. A missed opportunity.
Hay if you can see if you can get Robbie Laten to repair your doors 🚪 I think he can a good job the door 🚪.
MTS sells new fuel pump assemblies for pre-90, RENIX MJs
Also, your grille is upside down
Geeze $600 is basically free. You can't buy any individual part of that thing for that price by me. (SC)
That vehicle fits the region you live in because of all the native Indian food
Milford!!!! I know that town :D
License Plate says its a ZO6.....they fast!!!
had the same truck color and all 400k on it
I saw one on marketplace about a year for like 3 thousand dollars it was a 4x4
Y'all should check out the Comanche that @#TeamRideRevival did a few years back! ruclips.net/video/kJl_-qbjnns/видео.html
Is there a 6.5 inch long arm lift and a T-case in it's future?
Love those trucks
Why do you not have a set of Matt’s straps yet?
2WD only means 1 thing prerunner build.
I used to know ware a jeep honcho was in a barn. It got stole along with honda big red.
I’d love to see this thing lifted up and on tires like the morvair 🤙 or build the worlds Smallest off-road recovery vehicle. 😜
I maybe didn’t see it right. But how did you strap it down? I likely am wrong. But my guess is you have two ratchet straps total? Hooked over left/right axle to either side of trailer bed? One tightening point? 1 in front, 1 in rear? 800-1000 lb rated each? The Jeep is plus 3000 lbs? So even if 1500 lb rated each you would still be not legal.
If they are 3300 working limit straps good on you, I am mistaken, you are legal. In that case I hope it was a short haul. Straps are cheap. You are aware DOT does not count winch line? When filming you have to do it better. People are learning. There is this guy Matt has a off road channel. You might get a deal on his straps. ;). Between 3 pickups, 3 trailers I bet I have 30 ratchet straps. Used to be $3-10 a strap. Now $6-35 for generic straps.
Must admit. That rat mess. I would pressure wash engine with degreaser, some disinfectant first. Good on using Jack stands. Love the chrome impact sockets.
Turn the Comanche into a 4x4!
Nice jeep
The David Tracy of RUclips
You'll never know how jealous I am....
So Umm, if you had not noticed the headliner is kinda saggy.. like something lives up there..
Man I wish I bought my Comanche for $600😂
Good thing about the Comanche is a lot of the parts for the XJ (maybe ZJ) are interchangeable
I’d like to see someone make a 4 door Comanche that’s bobbed. Edit: wow I found one and they look sick! ruclips.net/video/Jx4CYNAk-2U/видео.html
Janelle for got to change the name tag..
Based on the Cherokee, how bad could it be? My 96 (98K) is still going strong.
If that’s a pioneer that’s got a rear Dana 44
I believe it had the chance of having a Dana 44, this one has the 35
Fuel pump
Flip the grill an keep her
Ah, a woman that can change a tire. Assume. Women mechanics rock! Go Janelle!
Good find
I love how you tried to shut the door every time without fail. 🤣
I have laughed each time.
Ha that’s all I kept laughing about! I’d probably be doing the same thing though
Rudy trying to close that door is a metaphor for me trying to sort my life out 😂
"The brakes are really sketchy on this thing.....like, they don't work."
Derek at VGG would be proud.
Yup...we're going to do the right thing and ignore that.
I read this comment like 2 seconds before he said it lol
I think that you got some smoking hot deals on the Comanche and the spare engine/transmission/wiring! Good job getting it running , thumbs UP to Rudy and Janelle! 👍💯💙
Fun fact: a Cherokee gas tank fits nicely where a Comanche spare tire lives (behind the rear axle). I rebuilt a Comanche years ago using an '89 Cherokee for parts. The weight distribution made the truck flex out real nice.
Doesn’t the stock tank on a Comanche hold more fuel then the Cherokee tank?
Can you run dual tanks?
@@compmodder01 that’s what I was thinking, why remove the other tank ? Have an auxiliary fuel tank, probably have a 600 mi range lol.
