They do have them still I believe, worse case just buy 2 and sell 1 and swap grips. A 10$ tool kit from a local hardware store should be all youd need if you didnt have any
I have two 06 Manual drop points I got when they came out, one with serrations and the other straight edge and carry them regularly. Now I want the Tanto auto with serrations. Never been a Gerber fan but one of the biggest selling points of this knife other than the Made In USA is the stout striking pommel (skull crusher). Other knives in this class like the Benchmade Adamas 275, Hogue EX01, Cold Steel AD10 and SR1, don't have this stout pommel. I've always wondered how Gerber's S30V compares to others like Buck's Bos heat treatment.
I have experienced more wear with gerbers s30, but between the manuals and new autos, I believe they changed their process as the newer blades stay sharp longer. Unsure of bucks process and overall wear
The tanto is good tactically, if you may need a really good defense knife on the fly, but drop point will still get the job done as well. If they come out with a clip tanto or "reverse" tanto similar to the Benchmade Contego, id be all over that the first day it releases. But overall with the selection, drop point would be a good all around knife!
If your wanting the Tanto, there are alot of groups, mainly on Facebook, that have alot of people selling New 06 tantos, and one reason is people buy them because theyre cool and they dont fully know the capibilities of the Tanto, and once they loose the newness or "coolness" or when they realize the tanto isnt perfect for everyday tasks they usually sell them
I would love the for drop point serrated version to come with the G-10 grips. That would be an automatic buy for me.
