  • A 5.2 ton technically-a-spaceplane lands our Kerbal on all five of Jool's moons and returns safely to Kerbin.
The craft's mass on the runway is 5208 kg without pilot, so the total mass including the kerbal is 5253 kg. This is a pretty big improvement over the 5.8 ton previous record. Most of it is in the Laythe and Tylo landers, which were both significantly redesigned.
I had an entire tank of xenon which went completely unused, which is encouraging to anyone who wants to beat this record. Also, the Tylo lander can be improved by over 100 kg with more usage of EVA construction.
Inspiration for this mission and further recommendations:
    • Tylo and Back on 5 Ton... First usage of whiplash engine for a Tylo mission.
    • Landing on all of Jool... The previous record low mass Jool V. I referenced this video a lot while making this one.
    • Landing on all of Jool... Another extremely impressive mission.

I don't know how the basic fins didn't explode on ascent. This is actually a bad thing, because the whiplash engine really has way too much thrust for this light of a craft and the fins are just unnecessary mass and drag. However, I had way more than enough xenon, so it didn't merit turning reentry heat up to 120% and re-flying the mission.

I think that’s good thing. For some, adjusting physics to one’s advantage even though it may make game harder is cheating

Having a full xenon tank to spare after all that is astonishing 🤯

I knew I had built the craft with more xenon than I needed, but I didn't expect it to be this much. This is probably due to much lower xenon costs from pushing around the Laythe and Tylo landers, since they are lightened significantly over the old record.

i love how much tylo lander tech has advanced since this video

even in this video the tylo lander was a back-versioned design because it was a lot easier to fly

You deserve way more attention. Your videos are seriously some of the most impressive stuff I’ve seen, awesome work

When planning gravity assists, I’m not sure if this is only a problem that I have, but the game doesn’t show me my trajectory after 2 encounters, resulting in poorly planned missions. What can I do to fix this? Love the content btw.

In settings there's a setting "max conics draw mode" or something, set that to 6. If that doesn't work, place an empty maneuver on your last drawn conic, which will force more draws if any exist.

now try to go to eve tylo and eeloo and back in

    • @proxima_fish
      @proxima_fish  Год назад +4

That isn't very difficult, I would just need to combine my Eve mission with this one. Vall is harder to do with ions than Eeloo, and I would need less xenon overall.
A more interesting challenge is doing the entire grand tour within 7.5 tons, which may be possible but I'm not sure.

@@proxima_fish try your best i havent even gone to eeloo let alone did a grand tour so you just do what you gotta do, and try your best. you can do it :D
