The best megacollabs are those with a great backstory and MindCap puts a lot of that into them. That has led to the success of "Collab Level" and "Limbo". Surely with "Cake Level" something similar will happen. It certainly won't be like Collab Level because it would be predictable, but it's clear to me that Cake Level will be more than a cake level. My theory is that as a cake is sweet and delicious, eventually we will see in the level its counterpart: something disgusting and bad looking. We'll see what happens...

Taking the piss out of other unexpected-horror type levels and making a legitimately scary level is such a power move. Love both versions of CL, the original version actually startled me and the latest version unnerved me and had me on edge even in the pitch black section. For something that started off as a satirical joke, this really is the best horror level on GD, unmatched.

I really do love the inspirations and references from other media in this level. It not only shows love to the inspired media but also makes this level stand out more in terms of quality.
the spooky's jumpscare mansion bit of the first scare made my jaw drop. one of my favorite horror games of all time.

I agree with what you say, the two levels before "Collab Level" had a simpler way of presenting their terrifying components. Of course, they are impressive as decoration and fulfill their function of breaking the cheerful atmosphere of the level but they do not generate atmosphere.
A key to horror is to make the environment unpleasant for the viewer, not just scare him with a loud noise (that's very easy). And this environment that I'm talking about cannot be enjoyed with the levels prior to "Collab Level" due more than anything to the fact that it is of very short duration and to its direction.
Collab Level works not only because it uses the clichés used in horror but because it creates an uncomfortable environment that the viewer must necessarily face, its art direction is not cartoonish but more "realistic" and that gives more weight to the terrifying parts of the level.
Collab Level plays by expectations, knowing that a cartoony, adorable direction is just a warning that an obvious turn in tone is coming. That's why the cover letter is a generic level (with all due respect to those involved), and with that the viewer has no details or prior notices about the true tone of the level.
For me Collab Level is a work of 2 parts that feed each other, without the expectations that are created when seeing the first part, the atmosphere of tension and suspense could not work. As someone who hates loud noises I must admit that I like the second part better (Halloween update). Not because there are no annoying sounds here, but because the direction gains weight at the end, where the environment, far from shocking the viewer, leaves them unsatisfied, empty, and with unfounded fear.
That, that's creating a good atmosphere. I am completely immune to the Screamers, so the second part seemed better to me than the first, although for this experience to work you should have played the original version first.
I don't know what the community is like, I haven't belonged to it for years but knowing that it is made up mostly of minors, I am not surprised by the childish reaction of the general audience.
When you are used to a monotheme, monoopinion or something that does not take you out of your comfort zone, it is normal to react with rejection with people who risk failure and get something different.
Devin's levels are grotesque, and I love he brings a disgusting aesthetic that seeks to be unpleasant to look at and still be quality. Because it cost him nothing to copy-paste Peacefull and go home happy.
Collab Level achieved what it wanted, and together with many former members of the community I can safely say that your project is memorable. everyone has done an amazing job, and it's because of people like you that the leveling community doesn't drown in a boring childish tone like it has for years.
I hope that more levels like this can come to light and have the recognition that is due.

I think this is the best horror level. i was able to watch all the other horror levels without stopping but this one was actually too scary that i had to pause 3 times to finish it. a great level.

I agree with you, that pillar section is awesome. I remember seeing the level for the first time and I am usually really good with uncomfortable or scary things, but those pillars man. I remember taking off my headphones and turning my volume to max so I could still hear it without feeling immersed because it was too unsettling :/

When I first saw this level I was overjoyed that ‘Through the looking glass’ was used as it is my favourite steampianist song. I actually got more scared from the audio cut then the visuals as I was singing along to it

Oh no, I knew those fnaf sounds were there. They even took me out of the experience, but at least the levels achieved their goal regardless. Good video, btw. I was always curious about the behind the scenes for this one.

Dejastes a los niveles como peaceful como susto barato y tienes razón,puro niño se asustaría con eso,fue muy buena idea poner cosas muy fuera de lugar a lo que normalmente es GD como poner a No more Innocence,la cena del ojo,etc...y también fue ingenioso poner al nivel con Deco normal pero bonita y no una muy cute muy obvia,mis respetos para tu nivel 10/10.

I suppose I'm one of the few people who really loved the level then. I personally thought it was one of the most impressive levels to come out in an extremely long time, with a super good atmosphere. Not enough people make real horror levels, but that makes them a super unique concept.

Actually when I saw it was rated I thought it was the updated version, was pretty surprised that every jumpscare was in it. Well let's hope ro learns from this and does a practice run of the levels he rates first, or let mods do the practice runs.

i loved the level honestly, the sonic exe kinda ruined it for me just a little bit since i recognised it. but overall i loved the idea and stuff like this that plays with your mind is just so cool to me (just look at my pfp!)
i really love the halloween update, especially for people who have seen the original version having so much tension on whether there would be scares is just priceless
having it rated makes it look more normal and more devious
Here's an idea/challenge: make an emotional tearjerker level which uses atmospheric storytelling to either tell a bittersweet or outright tragic story that really resonates with the player long after they put down the game.

i really respect how the idea for the level came to be because... well, lets be honest, the standards for what is scary in gd are REALLY low. and even though you said collab level is more of an experience than a horror level, i still think the horror aspect of it was incredibly well executed and i love it

When you update it again, garble the audio of a bit of the normal parts, change the background (like reverse some parts, distort some, mash some, shuffle some, add effects, speed up, slow down, etc.)
