Honda Civic 2021 review: should you buy one over the new VW Golf?

  • When the current, tenth-generation Honda Civic launched in 2015 it raised a few eyebrows thanks to its bold looks. While sporting a saloon silhouette, it's actually a hatchback like the Civics that came before it (in the UK, at least). It was also lightly revised in 2020, complete with gloss black trim around the front bumper and slightly more aggressive looks.
    Now in its sixth year the Civic is starting to look a little big long in the tooth and we know there's a new version just around the corner. With that in mind, is there any reason to buy a Honda Civic in 2021? Can it complete against rivals such as the Volkswagen Golf Mk8 and Skoda Octavia?

    Fair, and good, review (Civic owner here!). Adaptive cruise is standard and great to use, big boot genius load cover. So well specced and still good value. Apple /android is default. Shame all that work for so few views. Subscribed.

    Anyone who reviews this car who says the Golf is better doesnt know anything about cars. The Golf of the same age rides and handles worse than the Civic 10. Is noisier and has barely any of the safety equipment for the price of the Civic. Maybe, again for people who actually know nothing about cars, the DSG on the Golf is better than the Civic CVT. Not one of the cars you mentioned drives better than any Civic 10 with a manual gearbox.

    A negative review by the reviewer, when you are so anti on a personal basis, why not just say you don’t like it or at best just give it a it miss! Review a lambo if you are unable to assimilate to the market sector for this type of vehicle - just saying😳

    • @Planehazza
      @Planehazza 2 года назад +1

      Yeah the negatives on the CVT were misleading; it's very efficient, reliable automatic system, but it's different in operation. I think the frustration in using it is down to not really appreciating how it works.
      I'm sorry, but a 1L 100bhp engine is not a really good engine. It may be economical and reliable but it's not the CVT's fault it's so slow. Otherwise, the CVT and manuakl 0-60 times would be drastically different.

    "it's a faff if you only have one charge cable"....hmmmm, wonder how we could possibly get round that hurdle.
    i mean someone buying a 2021 plate car couldn't possibly afford another charge cable🙄

    Good review. I had a manual one from new and ignoring looks and infotainment, my long usage suggest passenger seat usually inconveniently low and so does back roof line but later is true for most cars in similar segments. Best in Manual gear and driving position with balanced handling, grip and comfort. Large boot but not always fully used. 1.0 is not that great see higher idle rpm and red line. 1.6 excellent and 1.5 for sure but expensive. Tried new 118i and it's different class both inside and driving. Every car comes with their pros and cons!

    Thanks for the interesting review. These things are so subjective. I fell in love with the looks. I like the 3 cyl engine, and don't mind the cvt. I loved the tech, esp the adaptive cruise control. I test drove one yesterday and found it incredibly noisy on the dual carriageway. Another thing putting me off is the very expensive belt change every six years. Poor old Honda, always trying to attract the younger crowd, but instead appealing to 62 year old blokes like me.

    My Mrs purchased one today... Australian version of the top spec model, with the 1.5T . Would have liked the better infotainment system that some other countries got in their top spec models. It seems that buying a new car is somewhat of a compromise and lack of trust in after sales service in some brands and expense of euro parts on the other side of the universe.... basically the same car, good review, not a fan of the new '22 version of the Civic.. looks more "normal" which I guess the majority of buyers want....

    There's another USB charger in the arm rest cubby thing. Also the us version has double cup holder with a coin tray that moves, and a fob holder. We also got a 2.0 NA, and the 1.5t. From what I understand not all countries got the coupe? I have a 2019 coupe ex-t and it's a blast to drive. Also the 1.5 0-60mph here is under 7 I've timed it several times. 6.88 or slightly less. The 1.0 that we never got is way too underpowered for the car, I don't understand why they even made that engine honestly.

      I don't mind the divisive looks. I love the masculine aggressive stance!
      This aggressive styling will definitely turn heads, (although not always in a good way🤣) . However, I would still buy it over rivals. Plus, every chav boy racer has a VW Golf!🙄🤢🥴 The Civic is great mix of comfort and athleticism, and ride feels sporty enough. It also has a superior longevity and reliability record than all of it's rivals, and holds its value pretty well. 🙏🏼👏🏼

      @@ThomasMulliganFlute It’s such a pity. They made a great move to bring back the power of the legendary civics with B16 engines in the new modern turbo equivalent. They are still putting the 1.5t engine in the HRV turbo etc so they must be confident in the engine. I wouldn’t put my money on it if you are trying to get a warranty fix with a dealer in 3-5 years time. No my idea of fun loosing such a wad of cash.
