Exactly. 👌🏼 When I read other comments complaining here about Rylance getting the Oscar in spite of his shorter screentime in ‘Bridge of Spies’ with respect to Hanks’, etc., it reminds me of the unique - and quite minimalist - performance of Orson Welles in ‘The Third Man’, whose rather limited screentime in that legendary classic literally stole the show to everyone, including to Carol Reed as the actual director of it. So, huuuuuge respect to Mr Spielberg & Mr Hanks 🙏🏼🙏🏾🙏 for having made such an audacious casting job by chosing the ‘anonymous’ Sir Mark Rylance for the key-role in their latest common project. Still disappointed that Stallone didn't win...Rocky Balboa means more to me as a fictitious character than many of the real people I have come across in my life. Would have been a fitting cap on a depiction of an immortal character. But Rylance managed to make a spy working against the United States sympathetic. Ruffalo was good, Hardy was good, and Bale was above average, but this felt like a two horse race the whole time. Sly's endearing and nuanced turn as Rocky with someone else helping him with the direction of the aging former champ against Rylance's even more nuanced turn as Rudolph Abel, a man you should absolutely loathe, but manage to feel sorry for. Will watch this clip about a dozen more times hoping Sly's name was called, but understand why it wasn't.

+Megan Woodard Bridge of spies is one of 2015's great movies. Rylance performance is perfect. I am/was glad:)) He is the Academy's best choice for win. And Of course Hans was great too!
+Dominika Paksicza and +Megan Woodard, I agree with both of you. For me, Bridge of Spies is an underrated film. I thought it was the best among the best Picture nominees that I saw (I haven't seen Big Short, Fury Road, Revenant, Room), and I was happy that it at least won one Oscar.
As much as I loved Stallone in "Creed" and of course the movie itself, but I have to say Rylance was better. Not much, but he was. I also would've been happy if Stallone won, but Rylance was a deserved winner.
You clearly don't know how awards work. And are probably unaware of the fact that Rylance is only the SECOND actor, after Daniel Day Lewis, winning for a movie directed by Spielberg; should he be so powerful, why didn't all the other ELEVEN actors he directed to a nomination, get an Oscar?
+Dan Stevens if you say so.. does not explain why Bridge of Spies did not sweep all the awards it was nominated for.. be happy with your opinion. And give the movie a second look, maybe you'll see how good Rylance is "apparently doing very little" (which, by the way - and I meant that as a compliment in both cases - is the same approach Stallone showed with his acting in Creed).
Says someone that clearly has no concept of acting and think maybe that Rocky Balboa is real and not a fictional character meticulously crafted and imparted with innumerable unique attributes and nuance by the script Stallone wrote and his performance. For the life of me, I will never in my entire existence be able to comprehend why people like you can’t understand that what you are seeing is a performance. Stallone does not sound, talk or act like Rocky in any way shape form or fashion. He is an extraordinary actor.
So well deserved! For once, the Oscar is given to the best performance of the bunch and to a truly supporting turn. Such a wonderful speech too. Congrats Mark Rylance.
For a second there you made me feel like 2003 all over again when Tommy didn't get nominated for that oscar. Then I realized you were actually referring to a good movie :D
In my view, that would've been a slap in the face. He's clearly the *lead* of Room and has more screen time than co-star Brie Larson (who rightfully won her Oscar). No, he deserved a *Best Actor* nomination.
Even 6 years later I still remember his performance. You're saying "no one" as if ALL people don't remember him but there are lots of people who's a Spielberg fan and remember Rylance's Oscar winning performance
Hardy was really great in THE REVENANT, and would have also been a worthy winner (in fact, ANY of the 5 nominated would've been worthy (I felt the category was that good that particular year)). On a separate note, one interesting fact: whenever Leonardo DiCaprio was nominated for Lead Actor at the Oscars, his male co-star received a Supporting Actor nomination. Leo was nominated for Lead Actor 4 times, and his co-star was nominated for all 4 of the same movies (in fact, his other male co-stars also got nominated even if he himself wasn't (Michael Shannon in REVOLUTIONARY ROAD, Christoph Waltz (who WON) for DJANGO UNCHAINED and more)).
This is why every actor should start their career in the theatre. You wonder why British actors are better than American actors because they all start their career in the theatre opposed to the Disney channel.
HAHAHA I knew it he's gonna win it the minute i finished watching Bridge of spies. in bridge of spies he didn't cry or he didn't scream or did the others requirement that audiences always "wating for" to prove as best peformance. he just acted as a man he played for. and he NAILED that. AMAZING. his duration is short but he stole the show, He made that film. we dont need to wait which scene he's gonna cry or screamor be hillarious. he just amazing in every single scene he's in. and i wanna watch the movie again and again just to pay attention at him. i can't wait to see his next movie after this and i can't wait to see him at oscar again next year as a presenter. stoiki muzeik!!! Standing man!!!
I came here after watching Don't look up...all I remember from that movie was Peter Isherwell, and I thought he was a real person! How on earth I have never watched any of his movies before. He was just exquisite.
Mark Rylance won over Stallone..... lol wut??? Thanks Academy, you ruined what could've been one the greatest moments in Oscar history. And yes, I think he deserved more than Rylance. Even though Rylance gave a subtle yet powerful performance, Stallone gave a vulnerable and honest performance that was better in the end.
Even though the first four should have been: Whoopi Goldberg for The Color Purple Oprah Winfrey for The Color Purple Ralph Fiennes for Schindler’s List Liam Neeson for Schindler’s List
Spielberg has directed 3 Academy Award winning performances. Daniel Day-Lewis in Lincoln Mark Rylance in Bridge of Spies Ariana DeBose in West Side Story.
+Justin Awill Stallone is an actor well-liked action can be "Jackie Chan" Vin Diesel "" Jason Statham "but will never be taken seriously (Understand this) and I'm glad you did not win has no case be 7 times Rocky but it is better to new role, movie after movie Rylance was the best of "bridge of spies" small acting, but very good should be a real "secondary" support to film and less time on screen
of those 5 nominees what Stallone did was the greatest achievement in acting, he took a character he's played since 1976 and made it fresh and deeply moving, the reason Rylance won is the average oscar voter is over 60 years old, they miss movies like bridge of spies the kinda movies gregory peck and james stewart used to make
Trump 2020 Nah, I saw the film when I was 22 and rented it from Family Video and was blown away by the film it was great. Tom Hanks was superb as always and Mark Rylance was phenomenal and was worthy of that Oscar Win! I saw Creed and while Stallone did great it was nothing compared to Rylance.
It looks like Christian Bale didn't applaud when he lost unlike the other Nominees. I did like Mark Rylance acceptance Speech saying nice things about the other nominees. Maybe Sly can cast Mark Rylance in one of his Rambo, Rocky or Expendable Movies.
I'm a big Mark Rylance fan and liked him in his role as as Russian spy , Abel , but I thought Tom Hardy's performance in The Revenant was more worthy of the Oscar .
What a night. Supporting Actress, ALICIA VIKANDER, first nomination, first win. Supporting Actor, MARK RYLANCE, first nomination, first win. Leading Actress, BRIE LARSON, first nomination, first win. Lead Actor, LEONARDO DI CAPRIO, five nominations, first win, death of a meme.
NOTHING, absolutely NOTHING against Ryland in Person! Strong actor for years and as I've come to know highly sympathic man. But damn it was Stallone robbed that night!!!
Tom Hardy was so full of hatred, greed and disgust in The Revenant. He made everyone so disgusted, which is pulling off the part masterfully to me. I believe I he should have won it 🤷🏽♂️
Such a humble speech. Rylance totally deserved this. It's sad that he didn't get a standing ovation. Sly would have definitely got one had he won because of his sublime portrayal of rocky OVER THE YEARS rather than his performance in Creed (he was brilliant in Creed)
Rylance is the best actor in the world right now, his performance in Bridge of Spies and Wolf Hall are a testament of that, best award of that night !!
I'm talking about this moment right now, not the decade, century, past 5 or 10 years, I'm talking about his body of work in 2015, and his performances in Wolf Hall, Bridge of Spies and Farinelli and the King demonstrate he is at his peak. And if I were talking about an entire body of work, he is one of the stage's gods. So, still, he can comfortably be toe to toe with the likes of Day-Lewis, Seymour Hoffman, Fiennes, Oldman, Phoenix, Gleeson, Lavant, Mikkelsen, etc. But really, no one came close in 2015.
+leon kane Not Day-Lewis, noone can be toe to toe with him and noone probably ever will, that man is ABSOLUTELY UNIQUE, when it comes to acting I mean......The thing is, he doesnt act, he is just as natural in his roles (any role) as it is humanly possible, that is why noone is like him or even close to him.....
Water Hazard he probably thought he won for a split second lol ....when he hears Patricia Arquette say Mark..Rylance (and inside he must’ve been like Damnnnn)
vicious character fearless performance but the academy gave the oscar to an eloquent quiet british performance, same as caine won when berenger platoon was nominated
Damn, Stallone winning would have sealed the deal as a good Hollywood story from underdog to laughing stock to redeemer. I don't think many people knew that Stallone can actually act and was hoping that Creed would prove otherwise (which is a shame, because it was the film's only nomination), but nevertheless, Rylance did a great performance that was deserving of recognition.
Mark Also he deserves win the golden globe I'm happy because Mark won like it or not the result Tom also deserved to win, one of them two before stallone HAPPY ! THANKS ACADEMY
It’s sad sly Stallone’s brother attacked this man on social media out of no reason other than pure jealousy because he felt his brother deserved this win more. Rylance has proven himself to be an amazing talent since this breakout role
Best speech of the night, and what I absolutely love about this win is that it shows how campaigning isn't everything. It is possible to win by simply giving a great performance.
I can't believe the academy gave this Oscar to a nobody. Sylvester Stallone long deserved this Oscar from the first Rocky movie from the 70s, and this nobody takes his chance away.

Sly or Tom Hardy should've won that o scar. Sly was phenomenal in Creed and Tom gave an amazing performance
I screamed with happiness when Mark won, SO beyond well deserved!!!!
Me too! I was really glad:))
Dominika Paksicza He was fantastic in Bridge of Spies, I absolutely LOVED the movie and Tom Hanks...OMG one of his best roles.
+Megan Woodard Bridge of spies is one of 2015's great movies. Rylance performance is perfect. I am/was glad:)) He is the Academy's best choice for win. And Of course Hans was great too!
Sorry , *Hanks
+Dominika Paksicza and +Megan Woodard, I agree with both of you. For me, Bridge of Spies is an underrated film. I thought it was the best among the best Picture nominees that I saw (I haven't seen Big Short, Fury Road, Revenant, Room), and I was happy that it at least won one Oscar.
Tom Hardy should've won this Oscar and everyone knows it.
As much as I loved Stallone in "Creed" and of course the movie itself, but I have to say Rylance was better. Not much, but he was. I also would've been happy if Stallone won, but Rylance was a deserved winner.
Would it help?
Fuck you, gayboy!
And give the movie a second look, maybe you'll see how good Rylance is "apparently doing very little" (which, by the way - and I meant that as a compliment in both cases - is the same approach Stallone showed with his acting in Creed).
yeah
Call me crazy but I think Sly Stallone should have won. He is not a good dramatic actor but his Rocky always was realistic, deep and very interesting
It would have been an insult to the craft of acting had Stallone won
Says someone that clearly has no concept of acting and think maybe that Rocky Balboa is real and not a fictional character meticulously crafted and imparted with innumerable unique attributes and nuance by the script Stallone wrote and his performance. For the life of me, I will never in my entire existence be able to comprehend why people like you can’t understand that what you are seeing is a performance. Stallone does not sound, talk or act like Rocky in any way shape form or fashion. He is an extraordinary actor.
tom hardy should have won he was an real a big evil man in the revenant
So well deserved! For once, the Oscar is given to the best performance of the bunch and to a truly supporting turn. Such a wonderful speech too. Congrats Mark Rylance.
Yeah no
No. Tom Hardy would have it if it had been given to the actor with the best performance.
All of your wrong opinions in the comments are irrelevant, boo
Tom hardy was better
Stallone was robbed of that Oscar
Just watched "Room" yesterday. I'm really mad the academy didn't give Jacob Tremblay a nomination in here.
For a second there you made me feel like 2003 all over again when Tommy didn't get nominated for that oscar. Then I realized you were actually referring to a good movie :D
Magic V Yep!
In my view, that would've been a slap in the face. He's clearly the *lead* of Room and has more screen time than co-star Brie Larson (who rightfully won her Oscar). No, he deserved a *Best Actor* nomination.
They didn't want him to beat Leo. Jacob was the lead in his movie.
Alejandro Pérez Rodilla Just saw it too.Not only nominated but should have won. I cried when he had to do what his ma told him to help them.
Deserved Oscar.
5. Sylvester Stallone.
4. Christian Bale.
3. Mark Ruffalo.
2. Tom Hardy.
1. Mark Rylance.
Tom Hardy should of won the Oscar
Another performance that no one will ever remember!!!!
Yep, such a forgettable performance
Hardy or Ruffalo deserved this
Even 6 years later I still remember his performance. You're saying "no one" as if ALL people don't remember him but there are lots of people who's a Spielberg fan and remember Rylance's Oscar winning performance
Tom Hardy should have won to me, but congratulations to Mark
I agree
Billie Bob Streep They're both good performances.
Billie Bob Streep for my eyes Toms performance was better than marks by far.
lol no
Hardy was really great in THE REVENANT, and would have also been a worthy winner (in fact, ANY of the 5 nominated would've been worthy (I felt the category was that good that particular year)).
I really wish Sylvester Stalone would have won.
Stallone was robbed
Sly wasn't robbed, TOM HARDY WAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Exactly
I heard that there was no campaign for Mark to be nominated. So this was a bit of suprise...
Actually, Rylance never campaigned because he was in the middle of doing some plays.
well deserved
Standing man!!!
watch wolf hall
Would it help?
Yesssss
Stoiki muzeik indeed!!
How did Tom Hardy not win that Oscar....
I came here after watching Don't look up...all I remember from that movie was Peter Isherwell, and I thought he was a real person! How on earth I have never watched any of his movies before. He was just exquisite.
Me too! I just watched it and I came here to see if he really spoke that way in real life as well. He was fantastic!
A well-deserved win! Rylance's performance was perfect.
+doody magoob Yesss
Mark Rylance won over Stallone..... lol wut??? Thanks Academy, you ruined what could've been one the greatest moments in Oscar history. And yes, I think he deserved more than Rylance. Even though Rylance gave a subtle yet powerful performance, Stallone gave a vulnerable and honest performance that was better in the end.
He is the second actor to win an Oscar for a movie directed by Steven Spielberg. The first one being Daniel Day-Lewis for Lincoln.
Even though the first four should have been:
Whoopi Goldberg for The Color Purple
Oprah Winfrey for The Color Purple
Ralph Fiennes for Schindler’s List
Liam Neeson for Schindler’s List
Spielberg has directed 3 Academy Award winning performances.
Daniel Day-Lewis in Lincoln
Mark Rylance in Bridge of Spies
Ariana DeBose in West Side Story.
Sly got robbed.
+Justin Awill the interpretation of Mark and Tom I found them superior to others
one of them two had to win
it hurts to whom it hurts him
+Justin Awill Idris Elba was robbed because they do not nominated
#OSCARS SO WHITE
+Justin Awill
Stallone is an actor well-liked action can
be "Jackie Chan" Vin Diesel "" Jason Statham "but will never be taken seriously (Understand this)
and I'm glad you did not win
has no case be 7 times Rocky
but it is better to new role, movie after movie
Rylance was the best of "bridge of spies"
small acting, but very good
should be a real "secondary"
support to film and less time on screen
+Kisa Vences English please?
I wanted Stallone to get it. He was superb in Creed
Stallone was robbed.
of those 5 nominees what Stallone did was the greatest achievement in acting, he took a character he's played since 1976 and made it fresh and deeply moving, the reason Rylance won is the average oscar voter is over 60 years old, they miss movies like bridge of spies the kinda movies gregory peck and james stewart used to make
Trump 2020 Nah, I saw the film when I was 22 and rented it from Family Video and was blown away by the film it was great.
Amazing performance in Bridge of Spies!
I'm a big Mark Rylance fan and liked him in his role as as Russian spy , Abel , but I thought Tom Hardy's performance in The Revenant was more worthy of the Oscar .
Pure injustice! Considering not only the performance in CREED but also the trajectory built by Stallone over decades
I just watched the revenant for the 5th time and still cannot believe that tom hardey didn't won the oscar
Yes he was brilliant
Well deserved Mark
What a night.
Supporting Actress, ALICIA VIKANDER, first nomination, first win.
Supporting Actor, MARK RYLANCE, first nomination, first win.
Leading Actress, BRIE LARSON, first nomination, first win.
Lead Actor, LEONARDO DI CAPRIO, five nominations, first win, death of a meme.
Patricia wished that Stallone received that oscar, watch golden globes and you will see that she is happy and clappling for Sly
Tom Hardy should've won.
They should have given to Stallone
Mark Rylance: "I don't care about the Oscar I have 3 Tony Awards" :P
Rylance is the best actor in the world right now, his performance in Bridge of Spies and Wolf Hall are a testament of that, best award of that night !!
He is a good actor, but not the best,, at all!
I can easily say u like 20 other actors better than him ;)
I'm talking about this moment right now, not the decade, century, past 5 or 10 years, I'm talking about his body of work in 2015, and his performances in Wolf Hall, Bridge of Spies and Farinelli and the King demonstrate he is at his peak.
+leon kane calm down lol
+leon kane Not Day-Lewis, noone can be toe to toe with him and noone probably ever will, that man is ABSOLUTELY UNIQUE, when it comes to acting I mean......The thing is, he doesnt act, he is just as natural in his roles (any role) as it is humanly possible, that is why noone is like him or even close to him.....
Did anybody recognize the extreme amounts of joy on Ruffalo's face when Mark Rylance won?! XD
Water Hazard he probably thought he won for a split second lol ....when he hears Patricia Arquette say Mark..Rylance (and inside he must’ve been like Damnnnn)
Jacob tremblay didn’t even get a nomination? Seriously?
Tom Hardy should've won
+Anthony Martensen if Tom was also my favorite
but only one had to win
vicious character fearless performance but the academy gave the oscar to an eloquent quiet british performance, same as caine won when berenger platoon was nominated
Ye
Well deserved Mark Rylance was spectacular in Bridge of Spies
Saw dont look up and came here just to listen his real voice
Same 😅
Damn, Stallone winning would have sealed the deal as a good Hollywood story from underdog to laughing stock to redeemer. I don't think many people knew that Stallone can actually act and was hoping that Creed would prove otherwise (which is a shame, because it was the film's only nomination), but nevertheless, Rylance did a great performance that was deserving of recognition.
I agree with you. Outside of Rocky, films like F.I.S.T., and Cop Land are examples that Sly Stallone can act.
1:26 Mark Ruffalo's face like ''Oh, what Mark?? Me? Oh hey, nevermind!!! Hey Rylance!!!!''
Mark Also he deserves win the golden globe
I'm happy because Mark won
like it or not the result
Tom also deserved to win, one of them two before stallone
HAPPY ! THANKS ACADEMY
I'm sorry but Stallone deserved it more.
Wow what an incredible and humble acceptance speech
It’s sad sly Stallone’s brother attacked this man on social media out of no reason other than pure jealousy because he felt his brother deserved this win more. Rylance has proven himself to be an amazing talent since this breakout role
I loved Spotlight and I personally believe Mark Ruffalo should have won. That's just my opinion, though, I guess.
totally, ruffalo did an electrifying performance
Respect your pov, but what's your reason? Cuz for me he's the worst in the formation!
i wanted Sylvester Stallone to win for Creed
What the hell is the cameraman doing?
Best speech of the night, and what I absolutely love about this win is that it shows how campaigning isn't everything. It is possible to win by simply giving a great performance.
Spielberg obviously really likes the man- everyone worth a damn loves Rylance. He’s a real one.
Sylvester Stallone was robbed 😖😖😖😖😡😡😡😡
dude tom hardy deserve it for his role the revenant
Great Performance....
Great Movie....
Happy that he won...:)
I can't believe the academy gave this Oscar to a nobody. Sylvester Stallone long deserved this Oscar from the first Rocky movie from the 70s, and this nobody takes his chance away.
+fifibrainiac99 I was also expecting Stallone to win but Rylance was also gr8.... So I'm not complaining but it would have been terrific to see Rocky up on that stage....
1. Sylvester Stallone
2. Tom Hardy
3. Mark Rylance
4. Mark Ruffalo
5. Christian Bale
The biggest injustice in Oscar's history, was that Stallone didn’t win.
For me this list should have been:
Tom Hardy
Mark Rylance
Sylvester Stallone
Steve Carell
Jason Mitchell
supermariofan03 replace Jason Mitchell & Steve carrel with Mark Ruffalo & Jacob tremblay
+rey skywaka Mark Ruffalo was good, but Spotlight was not a movie made to showcase how great these actors are, No one was having an Oscary moment in that movie. I don't think that one freak out moment was enough for Ruffalo to be considered Oscar worthy. Jacob Tremblay I agree on. He was fantastic.
supermariofan03 And Idris Elba ?? Biggest snub. He won the Sag award, the Independent spirit award and was nominated for the Bafta and the Golden Globe. But no Oscar nod. pff
And Rocky should've won.
