    You see people complaining about the price of some dells. Then you show them macbook prices. Silence

      I'm not at all an Apple guy, and I'm not trying to defend it. But your MSI workstation and the MacBook are very different experiences for very different people. If you don't move around your laptop that much then the MSI is your guy, but if you move around a lot you would want a thin and light laptop, not necesserily an Apple product, maybe the XPS presented in the video. Just to tell you that MSI and Apple, in this respect, are not at all comparable.

      Usually the people who complain about dells computer have no idea wtf their talking about and buy 400 dollar laptops and complain when they break. But then those same people for some reason ask about HP. I work for an Office Depot and come in saying "I dont want a Dell, I prefer HP". Im like why? Your only paying 400 dollars for a laptop anyways, not like its gonna be any different in terms of quality. For some reason they associate hp with higher quality.

      ArtifexIV According to the video of a guy from Snazzy Labs ("2016 Macbook Pro is good, don't buy it"), this year's Macbook Pro is the buggiest Macbook ever. He even details the glitches he found in a daily basis.

    Watching this on my new XPS 13 w/IRIS 540 graphics... I don't think the bump in video is worth the loss of 3-5 hours more of battery power.

    Nice review.
    I loved my old XPS 12 back in the day. Brought it with me everywhere. Once that died off I ended up with XPS 15 502L. Using it now to type this. But it is a pain to lug around. So I left it at home more often. Having the new XPS 13 for the last 6 months I'm back to carrying it with me every day again. Never once have I thought to myself "wish I left it at home today". It has been a pleaser to own the new XPS 13.

    You know the xps 15 is cheaper after you select to remove the dedicated gpu. Why pay more for a dual core?

    • @sendoprey
      @sendoprey 8 лет назад

      Salazar Studio fair point, but the xps15 isn't exactly a dead weight. For a gamer that quadcore cpu might come in handy when connected to an akitio node or a razer core.

    I am returning mine. Purchased the 9360 a month ago, as i7, 16GB Ram, 512GB SSD, and Win 10 pro. Full warranty fully spec'd out. The order process was clunky and I had to call someone to get the specs I wanted. I got my confirmation email with all the right specs. When it got here, only had 8GB RAM!!! I called support and spend a few hours to convince them to send me a new laptop! They wanted to send me a reverb unit! The new one got here a couple days ago, still only with 8 GB RAM!!! Crazy. I had to spend another couple hours to figure out if they could guarantee me another new exchange unit. They could not guarantee anything or give me any reason why I was not getting 16GB RAM. Told them to send me return labels for both. I purchased a 13" MacBook Pro with touch in the same config. Apples ordering process was much smoother and I am confident the laptop will come as I ordered. If you are looking at this vs. the MBP. Go with the mac and dual boot windows on it.

    • @tahoeskelly
      @tahoeskelly 8 лет назад

      Sure, to each their own. I thought I would warn people a head of time before they have to go through the same experience. Dell "tech support" even offered to ship me more ram for the laptop... let that one sink in for a second..... The memory is soldered onto the board! Their "tech support" did not even know that, really, Dell over the years, with all of the companies they have acquired, have grown too big for their own good. They can't keep hardware streight and their customer service has gone way down.
      All to say, I agree, the mac was a hard pill to swallow, but the ordering experience was much better, and I know what Ill be getting. With Dell, I cant recommend them.

      most games I would be playing would have average graphical requirements (Civ 6, Skyrim, Total War: Warhammer) so im thinking gtx 970 or a gtx 1060 @1080p would suit me. I'm just concerned about the quiality of the laptop when I'm travelling like viewing angles, battery life, heat etc....

    Good video.. I have the i5 Kaby version and I love it. I think the speakers sound really good compared to most laptops i've had over the years.. but I did tune out the Maxx audio a bit and it has a lot more thump than say the brand new '16 Spectre x360 (that has quad speakers and sounds far worse than the XPS 13). It almost sounds like your Maxx audio wasn't turned on in the video.. It sounds very hallow.. I did own the first Macbook 12 and the speakers were great but I didn't think they were massively better than what i'm experiencing on my XPS 13.

    Wait until it starts squeeling like a stuck pig when you're trying to get work done.
    These Dell XPS devices have some totally broken power management designs which are causing a lot of coil whine. A lot of them are virtually unusable. I've had 4 XPS 13s, all have been some variety of unusuable because of the coil whine they emit. Dell simply can't supply a device which doesn't do it, no matter how many times they tried to replace it.
    My current XPS 13 makes a noise like a ZX Spectrum loading from tape when you're using it. It's insane.

    The 9360 hardware is excellent, but most Linux distro's that I've tried don't set the virtual resolution properly for the TB3 port, preventing the configuration of dual 4k screens. I'm working on testing a modified kscreen binary with an increased max width and height across all profiles... It should work. The Fedora 25 LXDE spin functions properly, and Windows will likely work. Linux just has some catch up to do in regards to TB3. If you're going to use dual 1080p screens, or a single external 4k, then, it's perfect. Go for it.

    At last, a RUclipsr who's going to be up front about the awful and long-standing coil whine issues that the XPS 13 suffers from. In your "update video" I'd be interested if your unit suffered from the multitude of issues mine suffered from. I bought the XPS 13 (Kaby Lake i7 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD) recently but was forced to return it for a refund. I did a lot of research before dropping £1400 on the laptop and I knew coil whine was an extremely common and widely reported issue with the XPS series. Stupidly I bought it anyway and, lo and behold, my laptop had terrible coil whine, something that's very hard to live with, and something I'm convinced most XPS 13 laptops suffer from. Personally, I thought the coil whine was the least of this laptop's issues though. I experienced insane temperatures while playing Hearthstone for just 15 minutes (both cores reached 95°, the laptop was too hot to put on my lap, meaning gaming was out of the question) the sound had a background hiss when using headphones (utterly awful audio driver software, completely unacceptable on any digital device in 2016, especially a premium laptop), the charger brick got too hot to hold during charging, the touchpad randomly refused to register clicks, the laptop refused to sleep (at all), and the keyboard keys felt imprecise and wobbly, while also feeling hollow and cheap. These fundamental issues on a "premium" laptop were more than enough cause for me to return it for a refund, never mind the coil whine. I would seriously advise avoiding this laptop. I wish I had taken more notice of the issues with the XPS 13 reported on the Internet, but more than that, I wish that RUclips reviewers and tech site reviewers were more up front about this laptop's issues, because I spent a lot of time researching ultrabooks.

It's very hard getting your finger in between the lid and it sucks that it can't be open with the lift of one finger without holding down the chaise. Other than that it's a very solid laptop with stellar performance and the display is mouth watering.

  • @MadelnMachines

    Oh wow, you got rid of the 910 already! The main thing I wish the XPS had was a convertible screen and digitizer pen support like the surface book. I don't imagine touch is too useful on a traditional screen. Other than that it seems the perfect replacement for my old macbook pro at a bargain price. I did hear dell will be announcing a convertible XPS13 at CES 2017 so i'm interested to see that. What I really want is a quad core convertible XPS 15 powerhouse!

  • @ajfromca
    @ajfromca 8 лет назад

    This video had a lot more of My 12" MacBook is better references than was necessary. Whenever I hear someone comparing a MacBook to anything I always remind them of the price. You mentioned as equipped this XPS was about $1500 (which is the i7 version) and for $1500 on a Mac you are getting an m5. Granted both the m5 and i7 in this case are HT enabled dual cores, but its still worth mentioning and the i7 is more powerful. I feel when you go with an apple device you pay a premium for niceties that are really beyond what is needed, such as the speakers and trackpad you mentioned. Where on a PC you are getting more performance power in terms of a more powerful CPU and more RAM. Most people use a Mouse and headset/speakers with their laptops, however you cannot as easily augment the lacking CPU power and RAM of the macbook (being aware that OSX is designed to run well on this weaker hardware but this does not close all the gaps) This is leaving the displays out, but as you mentioned the XPS wins in some areas and the Mac wins in others in terms of the display.
    Sorry for the rant, but this is one of my triggers. I have been a follower for some time and look forward to great content to come, even if we disagree :D.

    I've had my XPS 13 for a month now and I like it except for the fact that Dell phoned it in with the fans. It isn't silent and there's a slight buzzing noise in a quiet room. Otherwise you can't hear it, but that's the only qualm that I have with this device. If you can handle the buzzing noise (which I've accepted since other laptops are much worse with fan noise), then this is a great choice.

    I had a MBP 2011 for 5 years with only HDD upgraded to an SSD (I did that myself). So It was time for an upgrade. Sort of figured apple would pull an apple and hike prices enormously given that the new MBP is an early adopter product. Bought the XPS 13 and barring some trackpad issues It's been a very good buy.
    Personally I opted for the 1080p i5 model as it's cheaper and has longer battery life. Given that my parent's bought it for me I felt it was unfair to take a more expensive model than required.

      The XPS 13 (Sputnik). When I have to travel, I'm on the plane all day, several hours here and there for layovers etc. I travel with a single backpack, so the latop + books, and clothes weight makes a difference to me. Most of my work is either local on the desktop (spreadsheets, documents etc) or connecting via putty/rdp session. You really don't need a ton of horsepower for that. The i7 5510 is overkill for my work.
