You have been secretly practicing the spinning laptop trick haven't you
:'DDD Was thinking about the same :P
I wouldn't really call it a secret...
One of these times it will break
Really top notch review. I don't usually comment on RUclips, or even sign in, but I thought you deserved some praise for this. The only thing you didn't touch on was the keyboard, but I've seen enough other videos that cover that. That cartoon of the laptop's guts at the end was a really nice touch!
thanks for the kind words! =)
Dave Lee have you experienced any coil whine??
I LOVE that view from the window of your apartment. Please include more shots in future videos :D
+Agasthon ADR Which city does he live in?
+Shayan Toronto I believe. And man am I jealous of that place.
Ross Bishop That view would make anyone jealous
Yesssss looks so good.
+Shayan toronto
Spinning that laptop on your fingers was really ballsy, but impressive.
No way I am the first to comment after 5 years
@@user-yr5gv6qb9v yeah
Dude. You got the best channel for laptop reviews. Please do a top ten laptops of 2015. That would be awesome. Happy New Year. CHEERS
Yeah that would be an awesome video
+Rejoy Panakkal Dell xps,15 macbook pro 2015, spectre x360, surface pro4,surface book for me! I bought xps 15
Binay Sangat - good choice. Am leaning towards the Macbook 12 inch right now. As a writer, an occasional programmer who loves to travel and who doesn't game much, am gonna go with the Space Grey version of that expensive little thing as soon as I can get my hands on it. I know it's a controversial decision and not many people would even recommend it but I think am allowed the occasional splurge.
+TheATTKGaming the Macbook is ok only if you can live withe limited iOS world.
+T-Tech I still don't know what people use customer support for. I must be really lucky or something, because Ive never had to contact customer support for any technology I've bought
Still own this laptop 7 years later!
How was it? I'm thinking of buying a second hand
Same, I had the i5 version with 1080p screen and I'm looking to buy the better version now
I love this model lmao
I LOVE the aesthetics of your videos, perfect.
That couch is too professional looking it's creeping me out lol
Wut
Will you do an apartment tour? Your place looks really nice!
dave seems like a cool dude to hang out & chill with
His level of chill is on par with MKBHD.
I am just fallen in Love the way you make tech videos! Super fantastic
+IQBAL QURESHI thanks for watching!
Your channel deserves a million subscribers. Great video as always.
I bought this laptop (first ever I buy) blindly, and now that I'm watching reviews it makes me happy that everyone is rating it the best 13" ultrabook!
Same! I just bought mines a couple days ago waiting for it to come in, how is yours holding up?
Jose Sandoval it's been great actually. The only issues I've had is regarding updates. Sometimes they get stuck, if you face something similar make sure to update all drivers manually trough the device panel!
Others issues I've had:
Laptop would reset instead of powering off.
Pin input would lock preventing me from logging in.
Pretty much those are the only issues I've had with it, in general nothing too big or significant, it's been a positive experience altogether and I couldn't be happier with it, definitely made the right choice.
Hey, little thing: not a lightning port, I believe you mean Thunderbolt :P
Dell needs a new logo. It reminds me of college which was like a decade ago
Yeah, after all Alienware is also from them and that logo is amazing!
+Tammy David Why change a classic? It looks perfectly fine.
+AMA Well I wouldn't want an alienware logo on my laptop.
+Evil Spock it looks ugly
Owen M It's clean, and it's professional. It's better than HP's logo, or Alienware.
can u make a video on how make money to buy all this stuff
get a job?
+TraMaFamily really don't say...
+Alberto Caro fool

Did you mean that as a noun or a verb?

Make great review videos, you do.
+Fish Kungfu hah. thanks yoda. =)
+Dave Lee As Dave, he does. Quick question Dave, any experience running a Dell Battery Meter (a battery charge limiter)? Idk, if the model is compatible, but it is given by Dell for those who charge in 40-80% parameter and limits it at 80s top. Heard it was nice for people who mainly uses it as a charged workstation, and doesn't want internal batteries fried in 2 years. Thanks! And happy holidays
Lol, I love that the finger spin has become a "thing" in your videos after the first one.
Just came from Linus's video, and your voice is a blessing after his. You deserve much more subs than he does (in my opinion). And it's not like I know more than you do but maybe a bit more variety of products (reviewed) would be nice. Thanks and keep it up. 👍
Bought an XPS 13 which arrived today, mainly based on yours and few others reviews of this and the previous generation. - Couldn't be happier with the purchase so far.
Thanks for your honest and informed reviews!!
geez dave every time you spin that i hold my breath
you look alot happier in your newer vids. I respect it
One of your shorter reviews. I actually sat through it without skipping. Nice and succinct.
best channel for laptop reviews hands down
Merry Christmas from Toronto bro!
+Light Asahi =) six
+Dave Lee lol best reply
what about the newest version of the xps13? looking forward for your review :)
Dave I bet you have heard this question a lot...
But I am trying to buy a laptop and I'm trying to buy MacBook Pro or this xps13.
I was trying to find answer in RUclips and all the RUclipsrs said they are both good laptops, it depends and I really didn't like that answer so would you tell me which one should I buy as a student that plays some light game and work on some 2d drawing on laptop?
Spinning this on your fingers is only the kind of confidence that only comes from knowing that this is a just a review unit - not your personal daily driver :D That aside, just discovered you and I'm loving the aesthetics and quality of your reviews :)
+Dave Lee (or anyone else who tried the xps 13) did you notice any coil whine while using this laptop?
Simone Bellisario really?!?
DAT. BACKGROUND. Wow. Ultra crispy videos, man! Congrats!
Nice slight update of camera angles to your standard review format, more eye-catching and bound to add more views to an already very clean and informative video. Great job, you deserve more views and subs!
Your video's are extremely well made and you deserve WAY more subscribers, can't wait to see you become one of the mainstream reviewers!
Great video! I am a prospective college student looking for a solid laptop and your video has helped me out immensely. You just earned a subscriber :)
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
I saw a cheap one on eBay. Would it still be good for just doing school. It's for around 250 cad
sure.....even i am buying one.
Can you do more of gaming laptops reviews. Most of the people who look for laptop reviews are basically the people who want laptops with high configuration, so I just want you to make more reviews of gaming laptops and it'd be great if you were to do reviews of gaming peripherals as well. Thanks you and merry Christmas :)
Will you be doing a review of the XPS 13 Kaby Lake?
Thank you so much for this review. I feel you put so much effort in making your videos and I gotta say it's top notch. Great job mate, I was actually looking for the best ultra book I can buy since my 6 years old laptop Acer Aspire 4750G is now lagging and outdated. I'm thinking this Dell XPS 13 will be a great choice for a college student like me.
You know you're hooked when you go back and watch older videos again because you can't wait for Dave to upload a new one.
That spin was cool as hell Dave!
+Dave Lee awesome video as always. The Skylake version of the Asus UX501 has also landed. Seems it has the same SSD but has increased performance. Try to make a review of that!
I've got a couple questions for other XPS 13 owners. I got the XPS 13 6th gen i5 8gb 265gb touch screen about a month ago for a great discount. It was one of those manufacture refurbishes sold on Ebay that I decided to take a chance on.
I was replacing a nearly 6lb laptop my school made me buy 5 years ago, so I immediately loved the lighter computer. The screen is amazing. I'm liking Windows 10. My battery went from 2.5 hrs to >8 hrs and is all I've needed so far. Oh and having a SSD allowing nearly instant on is amazing after my previous laptop had gotten the taking >3 minutes from pressing power to letting my do anything. I'm not regretting the purchase at all...but I do wonder if my product is working like it's supposed to.
1st a very minor gripe - I often work at home in complete silence and I've noticed the laptop emitting a faint whine/squeal. When it is on the right, I've noticed turning off the keyboard light or closing my browser can help, but I'll also hear the sound from below the A and Z keys and can't always get it to go away. Anyone else hear these sounds? I'm assuming this isn't a signs of problems and is just a chip or drive doing it's job right? Even the slightest bit of music or turning on the dishwasher will drown it out.
2nd...and bigger gripe. The touch pad has been a problem for me. The 6lb HP Elitebook I've put in the closet doesn't hold a candle to this laptop...but it's touch pad 100% accurate for all clicks/swipes/scrolls, this one isn't even close to as good. I updated all drivers, I put sensitivity at max as some recommend...it just isn't reliable. Moving the cursor works 95% of the time, but trying to move it a few pixels over often fails to get the cursor to move at all, requiring I "wake it up" by dragging it far left/right, then put it where I wanted it to point. And 2 finger scrolling....terrible in some programs and just fine in others. I can't tell you why, but some websites I've get all sorts of trouble scrolling while others seem to scroll fine. And my PDF viewer can go from working 100% one day to royal pain the next. I wasn't sure I'd want the touch screen, but find I'm using it a lot...possibly to avoid scrolling on the touch pad.
I've noticed the bottom of the touch pad really feels to be floating (it certainly isn't screwed down shown by strip down videos). I saw a video suggesting opening the laptop and putting 1 or 2 squares of electrical tape where the bottom of the pad clicks on...some button thing (ruclips.net/video/q1Z9adYLkyw/видео.html ). Is that a good idea? Dangerous? I'm considering it, as I've loved everything else about the PC but hate my touchpad.
I'm planing to buy a laptop that can support light gaming while it can still help me get through college, would this be a better buy than a MacBook Air? I need advise
same here! looking for something to handle 4 years on computer engineering courses, light gaming, good screen, portability and does not break the bank.
If you don't mind 15" screens and laptops on the heavier side there's a huge variety with cheap options, but if you want an ultrabook there's the asus zenbook ux303ub (with a 940m)
It's my current laptop and can handle light games (like diablo 3 or dishonored) at 60 fps on high settings.
Nimgyu thanks for the advise, do you have any other options ? while they're portable & durable preferably something made out of metal like the mac books.
I'd suggest looking into the Razor Blade Stealth 2016, on its own it's not nessesarily a gaming machine, but you can hook it up to the Razor Core for high proformence
i have decided to go for the dell inspiron 7559, has 8gb ram, gtx 960 for 800$. is this laptop okay? any comments?
Is that your apartment?! What an incredible view! The six is the place to be man...
Love the quality of your videos and production!
Suggestion? Change the music. This song screams "boring and snoooooze". I feel like there are much better options out there. Other than that, nice video!
Could you do a HP Envy 13 review? Thanks!
I bought this laptop because your reviews about this laptop, thanks bro
So much better lighting, just have to comment again, I just love the new video set!!!!
+Aaron Li just a different time of day heh. i only use sunlight so it's hard to get good shots sometimes. thanks for watching!
Can you, please, do a tutorial on spinning tech stuff?
Great channel! Quality Reviews! Well done Dave!
Sir, you have a very soothing voice and thorough explanations that are very convincing.
Dave, your channel is one the best, crispiest channels I've ever seen, and your reviews are awesome! Exactly what a user would want to know! Keep the good work up man!
LOVE your reviews Dave.
Have you seen the Microsoft Signature Editions for this laptop? Can you please do a vid on signature models and whether you think it's worth it?? even better if you could get a hold of one!
Hi Dave, really love your reviews! I actually have a XPS 13 9350 and you said that the RAM is not upgradable, actually it is! Just to be more precise in your review :)! See you
Hi dave, i like your video lighting
I have the 9343, it's treated me really well. There are a few audio problems, but nothing unmanageable.
You are an amazing RUclipsr and you deserve to be up there with the best!!
I know this has nothing to do with the video but I absolutely love the couch at the beginning of the video!
I believe that's a thunderbolt port, not lightning?
^
+Linh Nguyen yup. my bad. was staring at that icon when i did voice over hah
***** Yeah, the icon choice is... perplexing. As the naming schemes.. thunderbolt, lightning... you'd think they would have went in different directions.
I bought this laptop. This video was huge help make my decision. Thank you .
Can you review the Asus Zenbook UX303 ?
If you have seen reviews for the ux305ua, the 303 is all of that except sometimes it has a dedicated graphics card and a touchscreen. Also the hinge on the 303 SUCKS. I have it and it wobbles every time you touch the laptop. I read Reviews for it and others also had that issue. The battery life is half as good too. The rest is the same though.
+Cameron _ _ Is it worth buying?
Jona Schmidt in my opinion the 303 isn't worth buying until they fix the track pad, keyboard, hinge, and display driver problems. If any of those get fixed, then I'd say yes, but right now the ux305ua is the only laptop from the ux lineup without any of the problems. It also has a really long battery life. Question: what are you going to use the laptop for?
+Cameron _ _ I allready orderd the 303 from Amazon, but the Skylake refresh. I hope they fixed some of the issues, I'll see when i get it. The hardest task for my laptop will be HD Video editing
Jona Schmidt HD Video editing should be fine on a core i5 or core i7, as long as you have an ssd :P
Like the new background and the video set ;)
I got one, it's really best for me but... it has some cons as well. As I like to work with it late in deep dark and silience than:
- keyboard backlight is to bright
- speakers produces annoying noise (plug in a jack to mute it)
All depends on your needs but for me most imporant are:
- Linux compatible (Ubuntu 15.10 + custom kernel for wifi + blacklisted dell_laptop module)
- mat display (FHD)
- long battery live (especialy for FHD version)
- no fan noise (it runs for me only once when I overloaded it by purpose)
- low temperature
- stiffness
- low weight
+pawel7318 - You can mute the speakers w/o plugging in a jack...
While the 1080p benchmark for that laptop makes sense for the standard display, you should really run them at 900p, or half-resolution. It'll take that little bit more off of the GPU and make for easier scaling.
Overall, I agree with this review. I adore the screen on the XPS 13, and I love how compact the form factor is. It's just that little bit smaller than the standard Macbook Pro 13" that has become the standard for that screen size and it makes it so much more usable. While it isn't a massive amount lighter, the fact that it fits better into smaller bags simply makes it less obtrusive. It also just looks really cool.
Great video. I'm still more interested in the XPS 15 though, the quad-core CPU and dedicated graphics are a big draw for me.
A few people are recommending the UX303 for review, and I have one of the first iterations with the Haswell processor. Fair warning if you do review the UX303, it's worth mentioning the fact that the hinge construction is pretty bad, and a quick search on Amazon or Google will bring up widespread complaints about it breaking after a few months. I still use mine but I've had to do a bit of a hack job on the hinge to get it to stay somewhat together, but even now it's not in great shape.
dem magic fingers though. Merry Christmas dave.
PCIe! Yeah buddy! Great overall upgrade and good review too Dave! See ya next year!
Merry Christmas Dave!
+Admiral Ato Merry Xmas to you too =)
ive been reading a lot of reviews online about the xps 13/15, and many have complaints on quality issues (speakers, battery, screen, harddrive...) does anyone have experience with this as well?
Please do a comparison with the 13 inch MBP, especially because of the size difference, so we can see how the bezel changes the size.
Why NO reviewers talk about inherent coil whine (squicky static noise) and dell admitting it to be hardware design flaw. I bought xps 13 9350 and now VERY angry because no one told me about this issue which continue to occur with dells for decades
I feel exactly the same! I didn't even know it was a thing until I bought it and found a sub Reddit full of complaints. you can disable the graphics driver to get rid of the really loud buzzing but it takes away color calibration, feature to change brightness and ability to sleep laptop. regardless if you do this, there is always a slight buzzing sound which can be heard if you are in a very quiet room
Great review! Hit a lot of important info about this laptop, and it's very easy to understand!
The only thing I'm against with this laptop is the design. Hate the harsh wedge design. It makes it look thicker than it really is.
How would you compare this laptop to the new Razor Blade Stealth for performance?
Great video! Any plans on making a review on the new Latitude 13 7000-series (7370) when it comes out next Tuesday? I had decided to get the XPS 13, but then a friend of mine (works for Dell of course....) started to tell how "fantastic" it will be: XPS which is lighter, fanless, using core M and all black.
Excellent review and I'm a really huge fan but can u make a review of top 5 ultra books with good build and gaming experiences
Nice review. How many hours does it last if you just surf the web and do some excel stuffs?
And for those window laptop, can I always plug the power resource like on a MacBook? Thnx in advance.
I got this laptop and this review doesn't lie 😁
so far how is it go man...i just got mine 2 days a go and its great..can it run pubg steam?
2:10 the bezel seems to be the signature feature for the XPS lineup right now, yeah, and till 2019 too
Merry Christmas!!! 😄😄i love your channel!!! It has so much potential and all..
+Dar Paolo Lariat thanks for the support =)
Damn dat spinning trick :) just asking, do you ACTUALLY dropped a product while doing this??? Merry christmas dude, and keep on doing good videos :D
Nice video quality Dave
+Adil Rehman thanks! =)
cool videos, can you do some reviews on getting the best out of 200 laptops. THanks!
watching this on my dell xps 13 9350
keep up the good job Dave.
Subbed. Really cool style reviews Dave, Keep it up!
Hey Dave, since this is 6 months old now, any hiccups you found along away? My concern with laptops is the trackpad they tend to play up. And Mac ones are pretty solid even after 5 years. Do you still recommend this, or is there a better contender now? Thanks awesome videos keep up the great work! Do you know if I should wait for the MacBook Pro?
I wish I could watch your content forever
NICE REVIEW!!
Need a laptop, but don't know whether the xps 13 or the new MacBook. They're great both.
Waiting for a MacBook Air Retina.
It's really sad Apple have still this terrible resolution on the Air
+daniel_960_ retina MacBook Air is unlikely ever to happen because if it ever happens, nobody would buy the pro lol.
+daniel_960_ If you're talking about the MacBook 12.5 inch (the light and thin one), you can get one just as thin, and just a little bit heavier for almost half the price. Look up the UX305UA (If it's not in your country, look up the UX305LA)
+daniel_960_ check out the HP ENVY 13
+Cameron _ _ thanks
Awesome video Dave. God bless you.
Hi Dave,
I'm studying architecture and need a highly portable laptop with ability to run Autocad, Archicad, Revit, Sketchup, Photoshop etc, will the XPS13 Handle the use of 3d with only 8 GB of RAM? Does it have I7 Quad core? The 15" is really too big for me to carry around everyday.. I need to make a decision as soon as possible (p.s. I live in Switzerland, so I need a specific keyboard with accents)
Great review !
Good review! What's the keyboard travel distance anyway?
Hi Dave and other viewers. I am an engineering student. I am eyeing the XPS 13 with the same configs as the one in this video. I know that 8GB of ram will suffice but I am confused between i5 and i7. I will need to run software like MATLAB and solidworks (CAD) for uni and I might do some light video editing in the long run in case I need to. Will the i5 processor be able to handle all these? Thanks in advance. Great review btw, watched it a couple of times already xD
Like before watching! Good video as always!!! Hitting 100k subs soon!
+Chin Haow Lim I hope he does before new year
and he did that in just one year...incredible!
+Chin Haow Lim thanks for watching!
awesome review Dave! I have one question. which of the XPS 13 skylake models can run an external 4k monitor (or tv) @60hz? this laptop is perfect and its 4K capability is the only thing that's holding me back.
Great videos!! One of my fav tech channels!! Keep up the good works next year and a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!! Make some gaming laptops videos if possible. Cheers!
My Microsoft Signature Edition Dell XPS-13 (HD-non touch) 9343, I've never heard the fan noise like someone said before. It's very quiet.
