my main issue with it right now is i don't expect it to go where it goes however what makes that an issue is there's no sense of "i cant believe i couldn't predict it would have gone there." i also am facing some issues of not realizing stuff till watching breakdown videos, like i didn't know it was Rhodey on the phone (although I'm confused why he wouldn't change his voice) or that Gravik has extremis.
I came expecting a spy thriller (as the trailer showed, so wasn't expecting the same as the comics), and I have been getting a fantastic spy thriller with Samuel L. Jackson at his best. I am very happy with it.
I really like this show, but I came into it knowing it wasn't going to be action packed, but more of a spy thriller. But with great actors like Sam Jackson, Emilia Clarke, Olivia Coleman, Ben Mendelsohn, and Kingsley Ben-Adir, delivering every week, in here for it. Sam Jackson channeling his inner Jules during that scene where they were trying to get the missile code was fantastic.
The biggest challenge for Disney + and MCU is figuring out the right number of episodes for their series. This show especially! Definitely should’ve been a special feature movie.
The biggest challenge for Disney is figuring out how to get people to care about the franchise after it essentially ended after Phase 4 for a whole lot of people. After over a decade of movies, it all started to feel very stale and more like an assembly line than movies.
Building a story where you can’t trust anyone and you have to have proper character dvlpmt is easier to do in a series. But it should include bigger characters, and introduce new characters that will be important in next marvel movies. (Norman Osborn, etc)
It sounds like you may have wanted something that this show never promised it was going to give. To me this show has been great and been doing what it's trailers promised. The deep dive into a broken Fury has been top notch!
I've been thinking the same thing. I mean, I knew from the start that this show wouldn't even be as close to the source material as Ryan seems to have thought it would be.
i completely agree with you until you mentioned Fury, i think they are really dropping the ball on him. He's a completely different character than when we last saw him and the show doesn't explain any of what he has been going through or what is/was going on inside his head. him being called old all the time is especially silly since he's technically 5 years younger than he ought to be.
I don't think we will know how big of an endeavor this is until the last episode is out. Secret Invasion feels like it's is ramping up to something big.
I wish this show was 12 episodes, ala Andor. It feels like we are just sinking our teeth into this really well written narrative and we are already halfway finished. Seeing Jackson, Colman, Mendelson and Cheadle chew scenery is so good and needed, honestly.
Comic fans have become so fat and complacent to were they complain about literally everything that comes out. You give them something as great as Endgame and they want every comic film to be on that level of greatness, that even good shows are considered bad if not done to the level of their liking.
I love Secret Invasion. I think people don't pay attention unless one of their favorite superheros is featured. I don't think everything has to feel epic. Secret Invasion is bridging past and future storylines and setting up the epic stuff
Its dark, gorey, and they dont hold back at all. The villian is acctually evil and has no regards for human life so far wich doesnt happen in the marvel shows anymore.
I'm loving this show! It's disappointing to hear that others aren't. I don't need action scenes every 2 minutes and stupid quips, I love watching great actors working together with compelling dialogue and mystery. The scene with Fury and Rhodey was probably one of my favorite MCU scenes ever, it was incredible acting from both men. And the conversation Fury and Talos had on the train was just as good. I've been getting a slightly burned out on so many cosmic / multiverse / mystic storylines lately so to go back to something more grounded in reality has been a breath of fresh air. This show is fantastic as far as I'm concerned. My only disappointment is that it's half over already.
just feed some stupid fans like you some "deep" dialogue and then you just ignore everythings wrong in the series huh? this show is so "fantastic" that it literally is becoming the worst rating show in the entire mcu. just so you know.
I’m actually pleasantly surprised how much I like this show. I think the acting and writing are the best we’ve seen from Marvel in a LONG time. Also the humor is grounded and natural. I think people need to give this show a chance!
They do need to give it a chance! It's a fantastic show. And I don't know if it's numbers are bad or not. But if they are, it's because of TURDS like this, shxtting on it for clicks. I made this analogy on another comment, but it's true. Channels like this are like flies around the eyes of a stallion
I want sold in the first episode. But I like it now. It's interesting to me. I'm hoping they are going to have it where you have Skrulls pretending to be other Skrulls
"pleasantly"?!?! How ridiculous! That is easily the worst show to ever come out of the MCU! Why do you enjoy yawning boredom and endless dialogues without meaning and without any relevance to the storyline and character development? Here come the puppets talking about being 'adult.' Newsflash for you ! Essentially Marvel is actually made for kids, and your statements of 'make it bloody, dark, and filled with many boring dialogues' are a joke, unnessesary and about as mature as I was in 1989 when I was 10 and wanted to watch Friday the 13th, Evil Dead, and Faces of Death movies just because they were on the index... so not mature at all... You and your ridiculous strawman arguments and gaslighting... if this is the future of the MCU, it has no future!
Definitely enjoying it more than recent MCU projects, it's a travesty that it's only 6 episodes. Still waiting on something from D+ to top Andor, hoping Ahsoka does that
How ridiculous! That is easily the worst show to ever come out of the MCU! And yes, the comparison to Andor is very fitting, the series was just as boring and overrated, and just like with Andor, here come the puppets talking about being 'adult.' Newsflash for you idiots! Essentially Star Wars and Marvel are actually both made for kids, and your statements of 'make it bloody, dark, and filled with many boring dialogues' are a joke, unnessesary and about as mature as I was in 1989 when I was 10 and wanted to watch Friday the 13th, Evil Dead, and Faces of Death movies just because they were on the index... so not mature at all... You and your ridiculous strawman arguments and gaslighting... if this is the future of the MCU, it has no future!
Andor is a great example. People who watched it, loved it. But the show got so low views compared to shows like Obo-wan, Disney might not make another show like Andor again and get more obi-wons, because it brings more viewers.
I think ppl who have problems with this show are just not into a dialogue driven story. I LOVE that while it’s very grounded, there such massive stakes. I love that juxtaposition. It’s also great actually learning about Nick Fury for once
EXCELLENT observation !! Totally dialogue driven.. I am thoroughly enjoying this offering from Marvel... it is giving us something to think about and chew on after the end of the episode...and I am grateful I can go back and immediately rewatch it and analyze the scene that caught me with a niggling lil "wait... what??"
its illogical that the skrulls can't find another world to live on. I thought the skrulls getting the warp engine to find a new world was the point of Captain Marvel
I agree! I love dialog and character driven movies. The action is fine, but I tend to tune out portions of the third act in MCU films because they are often very comic-booky and ridiculously bombastic. MCU films are successful because they have both the dialogue, character development , and the action that comic book lovers want. I am fine with less action, if I get “chewing the scenery” level dialogue, which I think this show has.
Even though I too am a cat lover, I disagree with almost everything Alicia said, particularly, about Olivia Coleman. If we never see her in the MCU again, it would have been worth it. I absolutely love her and don’t care what she is in, I will watch it. The MCU is lucky she agreed to be in this show. Her character is so fun and she looks like she is enjoying playing the part.
Especially with so many high caliber actors letting the actors do their things is so interesting I don’t need every ep to have a massive fight I think it’s obvious that however the show ends it will have an ripple on the mcu titles to come
I think Kingsley Ben-Adir is close too if not the best villian we've seen in the MCU i'm hoping he gets to get more screentime after this show and that this storyline is leading to more skrull stuff down the line.
I think the skrull invasion should have been an event like thanos. Built up over several years. Also the slow pace works for a traditional 20+ episode season. I’m enjoying it but i’m scared they will either not pay off or pay off too fast.
in order to tell this story, it would require them to do a HUGE multi-film project. This is a lighter version to stick to budget after all the $ they lost during covid. it is what it is. I'm still liking it. just wish it was more than 6 episodes.
The fact that no one's addressed the giant celestial in the ocean for 3 years is insane to me....They had so many opportunities to address the fact that we have not seen a team even meet to talk about defending earth. Especially since they came together in the largest collection of heroes assembled thus far. You would think since they saved earth and universe, they might have some thoughts on future prevention...But they seem to each have their own singular journeys to get back to now that imminent danger has passed...
We also lack a sense of timescale. The first non-post credit crossover in the MCU was 4 years in. This new phase started only 2 years ago. So far we've had crossovers with MoM, Spider-Man, Shang-Chi, Quantumania, She-Hulk, and Ms. Marvel and The Marvels this year. The next Avengers will be 2025, which is 4 years in -- right on schedule. We're actually moving MUCH faster than the first time they did this but people are imagining an MCU structurally identical to the end of the last cycle instead of the beginning. So people want everything to already be built instead of waiting for Marvel to build it up.
I believe since the movie flopped so bad they're soft retconning it by kind of deleting it out of existence slowly. this also happened to the god awful inhumans show. u rarely if not never even see an easter egg from that show even though that show is canonically connected to the mcu.
Enjoying the show for what it is. Comparing a streaming series to a movie series is difficult at best. Comparing series because they share the same format is the same - if you enjoy it, enjoy it. If you don't, stop watching.
Marvel should rely on more Special Presentations like Werewolf by Night and Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special Nice 40-hour long special that tells the main characters and main plot with no filler and no long format problems that plague most marvel shows
I love this show. I feel like I'm thinking about it more than I have other shows except maybe Loki. I love the Talos and Fury together. Hopefully the last 3 episodes will bring everything together for you all.
Nah, there’s legit issues with the show. You’re not addressing any of the points made in the video that you disagree with. Instead you take the lazy way of invalidating criticism by claiming they’re only saying this to get views or be contrarian. I enjoy the show. All three people in this video mostly enjoy the show. The acting has mostly been fantastic. That said, this Fury doesn’t resemble the man we’ve know for years now. Frankly, he’s just being an ass for the sake of it. Fury has always been a tactician and planned his moves carefully. He was obviously someone to not mess because everyone knows his serious and stern nature is not an act. But this current Fury is a jerk, for no reason, and he’s alienating himself from all his allies. I don’t think this is story driven, it’s just a confused portrayal of the character.
I'm really hoping that this is just setting up the bigger Secret Invasion storyline. I like the show so far, but I hope this kind of blows the doors off the whole thing and then we will see the Skrulls throughout the rest of the Multiverse saga
I've been very entertained , definitely not failing. I think this is one of those shoes that's going to be even better on a binge watch the second time!
There’s gotta be a follow up of the scene with him returning after being dusted. If they don’t do that then they really dropped the ball. I feel every major character should have a flashback scene to the dusting and then coming back. The scene for Yelena dusting in the bathroom was amazing.
exactly this. there should've been a whole episode dedicated to his return and what he's been up to these last few years, EARLY in the season to explain why he's such a completely different character than when we last saw him - especially since he's technically 5 years younger than he ought to be, so the 'he's too old' line everyone keeps saying doesnt hold up. Also Nick Fury in the comics is a complete badass even when he's old af.
As someone who hasn't read the comics (or any comics) I am greatly enjoying the show. It sounds like you all are expecting a faithful full on adaptation of the comics rather than accepting it for what it is. Based on what you have shared about the comics, I don't see how a single movie would be making this story better. And if a full comic adaption is what you wanted, I think a full on phase-long arc would be needed.
Bro this show is fire 🔥!! This is what we been needing! The seriousness with a sprinkle of humor! Mavel needs to keep this tone and stay away from the goofy stuff!
I like the show so far, as for Rhodes being a Skrull. I rewatched Iron Man 1 and 2 and in the first one Rhodes is in that convoy that is attacked where you see everyone blowing up or getting shot. Then he shows up to save Tony and tells him "next time you ride with me". Rhodes was in the Hum V behind Tony, so maybe the real Rhodes died there and now some Skrull is assuming his identity. Just saiyan awsome reviews!
@@mayabarnes5973definitely agree they're just adding shit and thinking bet they didn't think of this like yeah no. None of the shit they're going to say isn't going to make sense.
So far, I think the show is awesome. I get your point about it not feeling like the epic crossover event that it was in the comics, but I personally feel like that’s a good thing. A lot of MCU stories have felt like massive events, lately. So, it’s honestly refreshing to get a show that feels more grounded and focused. With projects like Deadpool 3, The Kang Dynasty, and Secret Wars on the horizon, I like that Marvel Studios decided to make the Secret Invasion storyline more small scale compared to the other MCU projects. As for your take on the Disney+ shows, I’m in the same boat. I love the shows, and I can’t wait to see the other upcoming ones like Echo and Daredevil. But, at the same time, they did suffer from being released too early. Bob Iger is very much a quality over quantity kind of guy. That’s why the MCU is the box office juggernaut that it is. But, unfortunately, Bob Chapek was the exact opposite. He was a quantity over quality kind of guy. Which is the worse thing to be when running a major company like Disney. It’s exactly why the DCEU and Sony’s Spider-Man Universe had such a bad reception. Rushing out movies and shows for quick cash is a terrible business strategy. Sure, you’ll make money, but it’s in sacrifice of what could potentially be quality storytelling. Now, I don’t blame Marvel for the issues regarding Disney+. Every decision that was made was clearly enforced by Chapek. Due to the pandemic shutting everything down, Disney was losing money, and instead of giving the shows the necessary time they needed to properly finish, Chapek rushed them out as soon as possible just to make back the money they lost during COVID. But, even with those setbacks, Marvel still managed to put out shows that were still entertaining and still retained a bit of that spark that Phases 1-3 had. I’m a Phase 4 defender, and I always will be. But, Chapek completely rushed out these projects and is asking for too much. And I agree that some shows would’ve been more beneficial if they were movies. As well as movies like Eternals needing to be a show instead so they have more time to develop the characters. Luckily, Iger’s back as CEO, and the MCU is getting back to its original quality over quantity strategy that made it a success. I have high hopes for the MCU and its future, and I will always be a fan. Phase 5 might’ve gotten to a rough start with Quantumania, but the rest of the Phase, I know, will go swimmingly now that Iger’s back as CEO of Disney. Kevin Feige is a genius; his work as the head of Marvel Studios cannot go unnoticed. If anyone can fix the problems caused by Chapek, it’s him.
I like how it's been going. Definitely different from the comics and it's been entertaining here and there. There's some parts that blow my mind and others where it seems like filler. But there's still 3 episodes left to blow us away.
The dialogue keeps me engaged so I can appreciate that aspect of it its not what I expected but I appreciate it for what it is but with 3 episodes left there has to be something that happens to send shockwaves thru the multiverse.
Love your work Ryan, but sorry, I disagree with much of this and here's why... It seems to me the teams at Marvel are creatively spreading their wings with these shows. Unlike some of the films each show has a strong theme and is about something important, underneath each of the different genres(and in WandaVision's case they geniusly covered multiple-genres.) But they've all focused on character through these respective themes and I am here for it! Let me break it down: IMHO: WandaVision is about grief. The Falcon and the WinterSolider is about what it would mean for a black man in America to pick up that shield. Loki is about identity, as is Moonknight. It's about learning to love every part of yourself. Ms. Marvel is about family. Do you trust them to reveal everything about yourself? How will the family dynamic change? Hawkeye is a coming of age story. It's about passing the torch. SheHulk is also about identity, but in more of a learning that you don't need superpowers to be a badass kind of way.. and... Secret Invasion is about friendship. A friendship between a human and an alien in this case. But a buddy-love story none-the less and it's doing that so well, while giving us a spy thriller to boot. Spy thrillers are often mysterious w/ secret conversations..etc, that to me are every bit as tense and intriguing as any action packed battle. As I said, each show has toyed with different genres and experimented creatively which is fascinating in it's own right, but personally I've adored that they have been led by character and theme! Their runtimes give them more time to do so than most films. Love it!
I really think them going through villains in a single movie/series is part of the problem. Gorr the god butcher should have been hunted down for like a year instead of one movie where he only kills one god on screen
We’re so good at being comic book fans. Complaining when things don’t go exactly like our favorite storyline (Secret Invasion is mine) but also complaining when they do. Why not accept this as it is… a good show? At a time we needed it.
We’re consumers who pay for the entertainment and it is within our rights to critique a product that we believe isn’t optimal. This show is not good and looking at viewer numbers there are many people out there who think likewise.
The main thing people want now is there being less jokiness in the MCU. Ever since GoTG, the MCU has tried to emulate James Gunn's storytelling, where there are jokes, but it's more endearing than abrasive coming from him.
Thoroughly enjoying it so far, really like the spy-thriller aspect to it - keeps me on my toes! The fact anyone could be a Skrull is exciting and strong hints so far that a certain Avenger may have been one the whole time!
With everything being pushed back, Shang Chi is gonna be pushed back as well. Sometimes, this is where the interconnectivity of the MCU is a bane rather than a boon.
Ryan does a good job staying out of the contrarian realm of RUclips personalities. I think we have far too many people that are trying to make a living at this, and of those, far, FAR too many that feel they need to crap on everything popular, especially from Disney / Marvel or WB. We've all seen the videos, and later watched the movies and maybe thought "Huh. That was a REALLY good movie! Wish I would have seen it in a theater!"
The analysis of the episodic vs cinematic writing is very insightful. There are reasons why someone like Chuck Lorre has had many very successful television series, but he does not make movies. And one does not see Spielberg or Scorsese doing television. Just because the characters can have stories that fit either format doesn't mean that the writers, directors, and others have the same skills that work interchangeably in both formats. Thanks for acknowledging it out loud, because it is rare for critical reviews to be actually critical. Plus, Doug is getting better at his product advertising support.
I've been really enjoying the smaller feeling scale and slightly darker tone. First show I've been watching as it comes out since Loki. Edit: Looking back at it I guess most of the shows are actually smaller scale. Maybe a better way to put it is more grounded? Regardless, I like everything thus far.
i think its good plus people are not really paying attention the bigger scale shows are like loki, daredevil etc plus not everythin has to be big in scope i like the smaller more intimate stuff with secret invasion
@@Oslith honestly I just hope they stick the landing with secret invasy, but I also think the people who like it more are not as invested with how it should be cause of the comic book background
While I'm glad Secret Invasion is an episodic series, it would have been better if it had been a movie. The main problem with the last phase is introducing new characters who are not connected to the main characters. We also haven’t had a reunion with any of the original Avengers. No way would Thor & Bruce not connect post-Blip. The fact Sam & Clint haven’t even talked to each other is wild considering they were both on Team Cap in Civil War. Honestly, the mini reunion between Rhodey & Sam in TFATWS doesn’t count simply because that reunion was too short (though it might be important for Secret Invasion), but the lack of connectivity is awful.
Why wouldn’t nick fury be different? He went through his entire career trying to prevent catastrophic things from happening only to get blipped and then spend time post blip on saber. I imagine he did that because he felt helpless and felt like he needed to figure things out before returning to earth. If we would’ve gotten the old nick fury it wouldn’t have made sense.
i can agree that Secret Invasion wouldve made an excellent movie, but it wouldve had to be spread over several movies, like Thanos, to fully capture the scope of the subject. what makes the series work, so far, is that it does channel the focus through a single POV. i do worry that 6 episodes are not enoigh; the story feels like it'll need at least 8 episodes to expand its POV out into the rest of the MCU where Fury is less of a factor. but if all this series does is give us Super Skrulls to battle the Fantastic Four then that is more than enough.
@catastrophe8234 small scale seems to be the show's exact purpose. i'd be shocked if they resolved the issue of 1 million skrulls on earth in the next 3 episodes so i think this is just our introduction to Super Skrulls to battle superheroes in future movies.
I honestly believe the events of Secret Invasion will carry over to at least Captain America Brave New World and the Thunderbolts. We already know that Ross becomes President in Ritson's exiting in Secret Invasion, so that's one connection from this series being taken over. And in the comics, Secret Invasion led to the Dark Avengers. The MCU is swapping the Dark Avengers for the Thunderbolts and I highly doubt that Nick Fury will stop one million Skrulls by himself so, maybe the Thunderbolts can take care of the job for him.
I've been enjoying Secret Invasion a lot. I was never a Marvel reader so I had no expectations of what the show should be. It's a good spy thriller, and compared to the George Smiley shows starring Alec Guinness that I love, this is action-packed! Couple of thoughts: I agree WandaVision was a perfect marriage of story and medium. I liked She-Hulk as an episodic story. It seemed like a comic book to me -- a series of one and dones with a thread running through the series. I agree the Skar reveal was bad.
I'm not really enjoying Secret Invasion that much, it does feel more obligatory at this point. For me, one of the main issues is exactly what Alisha said, we don't really get to know the characters. I know we were introduced to some of these characters in Captain Marvel, but that was in 2019 (which is a long time in terms of trying to remember a number of characters. It also probably didn't help that I didn't even really feel attached to the characters from that movie either). But, we meet a new character (or see an already introduced character but briefly) and I think "why should I care about this person?" This happens more in Secret Invasion than not, we just meet so many characters for the first time, and we don't really get to know them well. We are just expected to think, "Ok, yeah that makes sense. I get it, they're [Fury and Priscilla] married and that means I should feel connection". But I didn't see it happen and so it's really hard to care about their [Fury and Priscilla] relationship. Gravik, I don't really know him and there was like one scene that explained why he is choosing to do all this? And pretty much the same for all the other characters who we didn't meet extensively in past movies/TV shows (mostly movies). I agree with a lot of SC said here, that these would have been better in films (or they should have at least put a bigger budget and made the TV shows better quality). And yeah, seeing the Skrulls copy the actual heroes would have been much more interesting. Lastly, there are just too many competing "end of the world" scenarios in the MCU: Kang, Secret Invasion, possibly the Eternals Celestials, other multi-versal beings introduced in Dr. Strange (although this is probably Kang related anyway). They really should have just focused on one of those and introduced it more like they did with Thanos, lots of hints and cameos leading to it. Example for Secret Invasion => post-credit scene: a superhero is called to action somehow, like they hear a mugging or something, nothing that they think they couldn't take on on their own. But then are overtaken by Skrulls and taken over, kidnapped and then the Skrull turns into them. (E.g. in an example: Sam Wilson (Falcon) is out running when he sees something suspicious in an alley, someone being mugged. He goes to intervene only to see that it's Steve Rodgers (a Skrull) doing the mugging. Sam is confused and emotions arise and is therefore a little debilitated. Not wanting to hurt Steve, he gets close and talks to him, only to find that it was a ruse and the one being mugged is a skrull actor, and other skrulls in hiding come out, just before they tranquilize Sam, Rodgers morphs into Sam right before his very eyes. Sam is taken to a secret location and is put in those machines we saw from the show. Last scene, we see Sam (the Skrull) interacting with other Avengers, and they are unaware. There is just a lot going on in the MCU now and it makes it harder to get invested into any one direction. There is so much more to be said about this and why it's not really working that well and that it just feels more obligatory than enjoyment (at least from my opinion).
Enjoying so far. Try not to let other titles/comics take away from the experience. Having the spy/guessing game more grounded MCU show is cool to follow. Fan of good conflict/acting. If we get good twists and real passion acting that has good storytelling for the future I am happy. She-Hulk almost ruined the entire MCU for me…felt like nothing at all matters because of stuff like that. But trying to get back on track with more grounded less cosmic less multi verse setting.
It's hard for me to get into the critical analysis of these shows when I've still got my 6-year-old-in-1980 mindset of Lou Ferringo & Linda Carter being the high water mark for what to expect from super hero TV. My mind is just blown at the high quality of the direction, production values, and acting. All of these shows have been great to varying degrees. When I think of "bad super hero TV," I'm thinking of the the televised Justice League specials in the 1970's. The Disney Plus stuff has been fantastic.
Agreed. This stuff is freaking great compared to what we Gen X folk watched when we were young, even the social effect so many claim are horrible are leap year ahead. I love it all.
I don't know what you guys are talking about? I think you guys are heavy nitpicking about this show. These characters are showing very real interactions based on the actions in the MCU. Each character has issues with Fury disappearing, we see him showing fear and regret over this, and the spy v spy is coming off well.
I just keep hearing on these videos how big this thing should have been because the comics were amazing... but since I never read those ones... I can't say that I care. I like this show. It's good.
I like it and I've read the comics. Sometimes the source material does not have to be copied 100% and I like the direction the writers took with the series in highlighting Nick Fury's worst nightmare coming true. One downer for me was the 6 episode run which might be too short but what do I know?
@kellylingro3288 yes. However the only people to know about Thanos' garden haven't seen or spoken to Fury in about 5 years.. so unless it was reported up through a "Chain of Heirachy" which at the time wasn't in place because 50% of all life had been wiped at that point
@catastrophe8234 That's a fair point.. I completely forgot about the cardboard cutout.. even then, I'm sure her absence since endgame will be explained in the upcoming Marvels film.. but if im not mistaken to avoid that loophole, they'll just say she never rejoined up with Fury on Sabre after everyone was brought back from the snap. Then, other than going there herself, she wouldn't have said a word to anyone
@micah2247 , I also think it's GREAT! These freaking nerds are ruining EVERYTHING. It's like the MCU has gotten so magnanimous, that these people just generate their revenue using it as a punching bag. They're like flies around the eyes of a gorgeous horse. . MARVEL didn't die. And to them, it has "live(d) long enough to see itself become their villain"
Y’all, every story has a beginning. This show can be viewed as the beginning of the Skrull invasion. They haven’t even perfected the ability to turn Skrulls super yet. Why would the Avengers be in this show when Fury just realized there were so many Skrulls on earth and Gravick is still in the process of harassing the scientist to create the ability for them to replicate superpowers?
I feel like the Disney+ episodes will lead to bigger stories. It just takes time! When they do appear on the big screen they won’t have to spend time with character development.
That’s a crazy take, Nick Fury not having that mystique is the story, and they’re doing a fantastic job with Samuel L Jackson. I can’t wait to see the old nick fury emerge by the end of the series
I've honestly loved everything from marvel except the last 2 episodes of She-Hulk lol..... But I think that because I've never read a comic. So all of this content = new experiences for me. Also, I think it's because I'm also not watching things with a microscope and comparing it to other things I've watched. I just sit, watch, enjoy the environment that the entertainment is presented before me AND then I go about my day until the next installment.
@@Feilipe457I realize you said "feels like" but that's honestly a ridiculous thing to say about this channel and these people. Screen Crush is what it is because of the MCU; even if it did completely fall off a cliff, they wouldn't say that and just stop doing vids about marvel stuff. None of them said "this show is irredeemable trash!" they had VALID complaints, and they discussed them. Y'all are the ridiculous ones for completely rejecting any criticism of a thing you like, you don't have to agree with them, but don't lie that they're making bad faith criticisms and just looking to bash when we all know gd well that's not what's happening.
I don’t really have an opinion because Disney+ is not releasing it the correct way. The director, who directed all episodes himself, describes the show as one long film. It should’ve dropped this way. Imagine watching Endgame over a couple weeks. It would be aggravating to break it down into episodes.
So what, a lot can happen in 2 episodes plus there were 3 episodes left when I made this comment. There’s still more to be revealed. You should keep the cussing to yourself by the way otherwise you just come off like a douche. The show is well written and the acting is great! The best part about it is that it’s a serious tone. I love it! It’s been awhile since marvel had that
Honestly, I love it, a good grounded show that’s kinda its own thing. Avengers: Secret Invasion, just doesn’t feel right to me. Anyway, a huge step up from She-Hulk.I rlly hope they fix her character bc she’s rlly cool in the comics and other stuff
As someone who didn’t read the comics I’ve found this show pretty amazing and easy to follow! Action is great, but I enjoy following the plot and character development or portrayal. When done correctly these MCU series can add a good base for the big films. Every aspect of a film doesn’t need to be dissected to it’s core. Just enjoy it!
I personally love the series and think it’s one of the best MCU projects in a while but what’s weird is there’s no excitement factor like this i week I forgot about the new episode til today! Idk if that just my hype level for MCU as of rn
"Secret Invasion" is better than it's being given credit for. It's not the CGI heavy splash that you'd want from a Marvel show, but it shouldn't have to be in order to be good. It has a rather formulaic approach to a buildup, but that's not an indictment of its quality as much as it is an observation of typical spy/espionage shows. The acting is superb, the dynamic between Jackson and Mendelsohn is as good as any MCU show or movie. This show is character driven, and the only reason it's not getting the viewership it should be getting is because MCU fans have been spoiled on the extravagant and blockbuster budget grandiose. So when a show goes small and is character driven, it feels like a letdown, even though the show itself is excellent.
It’s a slow burn. I think since we only have a small bit (Rhodey and Ross) as Skrulls, it might SEEM like it might not amount to much. I just don’t see how they can end the arc in three episodes without cheapening it. We obviously couldn’t have put this one in a single movie either. I think between this and Falcon an Winter Soldier, if done right, it could help finish it off in their respective movies. Civil War’s impact was felt in IW and EG.
@@matics2808 uhhh I don’t know how you watch movies, but if half way thru the movie I’m questioning the movie.. that ain’t a good movie in my opinion. I am probably one of the biggest MCU fans and I love the characters from all the tv shows. But all these shows are mid. And I wish they would have just stuck with the movies. If your gona do a tv show. Do it ala MAOS. Such a huge part of these comic book movie adaptations is there high production and budget. So when you the Skrulls in Captain Marvel look detailed and realistic like an actual alien. To lookin at the Neon green crap in Secret Invasion. Or that crappy Cgi in She Hulk it takes from the overall experience
Quantity over quality please! They don't have to break the bank to make these shows. Cast lesser known actors, use the volume more. If there are a lot of shows some of them will be objectively good, and others will have some people who will like them even if they are not objectively good. I feel like we've been waiting forever for the phase 4 and 5 shows to gather momentum. I want a new episode every week if possible, I am happy to take lower quality effects. I miss the 22 episode seasons, 6 episodes just isn't enough. When Buffy and Angel were on TV you were getting 44 episodes of TV a year and a lot of those episodes were great (and some were terrible). As it stands we are getting many short series and lots of them aren't very good despite all of the money spent on them. Make them more cheaply and do more, it'll give more work for writers etc and inevitably some of them will be great and wouldn't see the light of day now.
Secret invasion is not failing.😮 There's only been three episodes and each one has delivered 100%!!!😂 They only use the comics as source material. If you were expecting some multi million budget 6 episode show😮 then my friend I'm sorry to say you are out of your mind. This is a show about Nick Fury. And I foresee it that it will be awesome and my expectations are where they should be.😂
I'm liking the show a lot so far. I feel like the events of the show could still have a major effect on world as a whole but just hasn't yet. I think the truth about the Skrulls have to come out tho in the end to have the widest effecf.
The Skrull invasion to me seems like a combination of the takeover by Hydra mixed with the antics of the Flag Smashers which makes if feel like I've seen it all before.
I think that the main issue is that everyone is trying to connect everything. What was great about phase 1 and 2 was that we didn't know what was coming next or if it was going to continue so we didn't have such high expectations. If we just looked at these projects as potential stand alones they are great. They are also just putting out way too many shows. Not sure if anyone agrees but I liked when the shows felt like an inside look or special thing that wasn't needed to move along the MCU. Isnt that what these show were supposed to be?
I really like this show and I disagree with the idea that Fury being different is a negative. I love the different aspects we have seen of Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury. In Captain Marvel, he was funny, lighter, more kind and seemed like a spy/ government official who had not seen horrible things yet and felt like he could still save the world. In The Avengers movies and the Captain America movies, he was more callous and manipulative. He was willing to use Coleson’s death to motivate the original Avengers. In this show we get to see the multi-layered version of Fury. Even if he is THE SPY, he is still a human person who can be tough and vulnerable at the same time as he grapples with his failure to create a team that could stop Thanos, and the enormity of an invasion by entities we can not clearly recognize as the enemy. To me, this adaptation of Fury is the perfect evolution of the character.
I really like this show. I don’t care about the comic, entertain me and the show is entertaining, we all know it’s building towards something so just enjoy the ride and judge it when it’s over
Maybe when compared to Disney+ marvel shows, but I don't think they beat the Netflix shows (Jessica Jones, Punisher, etc). When you compare all of the shows, with Daredevil at the top and Inhumans/Iron Fist at the bottom, unfortunately it hovers around mid.
I never read secret invasion , so I totally missed out ( I was pretty much on a marvel hiatus for a long time). That being said, the Skrulls being everyone aside, I am really enjoying the spyness of it. Reminds me of the Russo Bros captain America. I really need marvel to get back to great Genre movies that just HAPPEN to have super heroes in them. One thing I will say is after Endgame, I dont think they have portrayed faith in superhero's. The world is rebuilding. They lost their champions and its time for the second team to build. This would have had a greater impact if it was Capt, Black Widow, T'Challa, or TOny being cloned. On the plus side, if they say She Hulk was a Skrull and redo that show with a new writing team, that would be AMAZING!!!!
The show is just okay to me. I enjoy the toned down-ness of it, but there's no logical reason for it not to include superheroes and, more importantly, I don't feel compelled to actually care about any of this. We've barely actually seen Fury in the MCU (by which I mean we know next to nothing about him), we've seen marginally less of the Skrulls, and as a result there's so much expositional fluff trying to get us better acquainted with them. The problem of the Skrulls without a homeworld could be easily resolved with a call to CM, Rocket, hell even Dr. Stange, and back to us needing to get to know everyone within a 6 episode series: we should've, at the very least, been getting to know Talos better post Captain Marvel

Nick Fury sucks.
my main issue with it right now is i don't expect it to go where it goes however what makes that an issue is there's no sense of "i cant believe i couldn't predict it would have gone there." i also am facing some issues of not realizing stuff till watching breakdown videos, like i didn't know it was Rhodey on the phone (although I'm confused why he wouldn't change his voice) or that Gravik has extremis.
... but wait all will be revealed right
So why didn't YOU drink any?
I know how to fake drink and that my friend was a bad version of fake drinking.
Is it that bad?

I was getting Pulp Fiction vibes too during that scene!
Same 😅😅
Exactly! I came in knowing it was a spy not complete like winter soldier but still has the vibe of it
This is not a spy thriller. This is just bad
@@DontAsk-fc4ox It started off good, but they couldn't stick the landing. So much wasted potential.
@@ChunkyJoalot of ppl still care bro man hence everyone watching this video
Absolutely
I agree
Building a story where you can’t trust anyone and you have to have proper character dvlpmt is easier to do in a series.
But it should include bigger characters, and introduce new characters that will be important in next marvel movies. (Norman Osborn, etc)
It sounds like you may have wanted something that this show never promised it was going to give. To me this show has been great and been doing what it's trailers promised. The deep dive into a broken Fury has been top notch!
I've been thinking the same thing. I mean, I knew from the start that this show wouldn't even be as close to the source material as Ryan seems to have thought it would be.
No wonder Marvel ain't getting better
i completely agree with you until you mentioned Fury, i think they are really dropping the ball on him. He's a completely different character than when we last saw him and the show doesn't explain any of what he has been going through or what is/was going on inside his head. him being called old all the time is especially silly since he's technically 5 years younger than he ought to be.
I'm really liking secret invasion thus far. The tone is much different than the other shows/films and that's perfectly fine with me
I don't think we will know how big of an endeavor this is until the last episode is out.

Sad that this show got less episodes than She-Hulk
@quiden75 EXACTLY
Agree. and people complain about the sit and talk scenes lol. welcome to television
I just find it funny everyone wants different stories until they get different stories.
The dialog is top notch.
My thoughts exactly.
Bingo.
They wanted something different. We got something different. Turns out they dunno what they want.
people complain when past characters are brought up to be used as cameo's but when new characters are used its a problem
Exactly! The hate is real.
The villian is acctually evil and has no regards for human life so far wich doesnt happen in the marvel shows anymore.
you must have loved she hulk too. you like to watch the she hulk twerk? SMH
Although I DO prefer action scenes (my own opinion), I don’t get mad when there isn’t action every 2 seconds. Secret invasion is great so far!
just feed some stupid fans like you some "deep" dialogue and then you just ignore everythings wrong in the series huh? this show is so "fantastic" that it literally is becoming the worst rating show in the entire mcu. just so you know.
I agree with this comment!

Nope. Not close...HE IS. Thanos was an overrated idiot who apparently was sooo smart...that he didn't understand population growth?🤔🤨 🤡
They mentioned it in she hulk
I believe since the movie flopped so bad they're soft retconning it by kind of deleting it out of existence slowly. this also happened to the god awful inhumans show. u rarely if not never even see an easter egg from that show even though that show is canonically connected to the mcu.
It was mentioned on a news report in She-Hulk.
@@FuzzySamurai Black Bolt who played the same in Inhumans TV show was in MoM
Enjoying the show for what it is. Comparing a streaming series to a movie series is difficult at best. Comparing series because they share the same format is the same - if you enjoy it, enjoy it. If you don't, stop watching.
totally agree people are shit nowadays comparing movies for no reason
Can’t please marvel nerds 😞
Marvel should rely on more Special Presentations like Werewolf by Night and Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special Nice 40-hour long special that tells the main characters and main plot with no filler and no long format problems that plague most marvel shows
I think that the Fury we are seeing could be a Skrull. He WAS cutting toast diagonally in Avengers: AOU.
I love this show. I feel like I'm thinking about it more than I have other shows except maybe Loki. I love the Talos and Fury together. Hopefully the last 3 episodes will bring everything together for you all.
Talos and Fury are magic together. The duo I never knew I needed
Exactly - can’t just enjoy a show anymore gotta come up with a reason to hate on everything for clicks and videos
You took the words right out of my mouth.
exactly this. there should've been a whole episode dedicated to his return and what he's been up to these last few years, EARLY in the season to explain why he's such a completely different character than when we last saw him - especially since he's technically 5 years younger than he ought to be, so the 'he's too old' line everyone keeps saying doesnt hold up. Also Nick Fury in the comics is a complete badass even when he's old af.
@@Shishkebarbarian facts I didn’t even think about the age thing.

I love this show! The cast is fantastic, it's dark and gritty, and I'm loving the story so far. It's a shame not many people are watching it.
Part of the problem is that it's a summer release, when viewership goes down across the board
I think the show is great so far! It’s not on the scale of a movie but I appreciate what it’s setting up and the great expositions!
Doesn’t make it good as a solo project
I mean it’s got pretty similar scale to winter soldier and like homecoming
I can guarantee you they were not thinking of this show in 2007 when they filmed these movies 😂 just saying.
@@mayabarnes5973definitely agree they're just adding shit and thinking bet they didn't think of this like yeah no. None of the shit they're going to say isn't going to make sense.
I actually really like the direction this show is going. It’s building up to some huge conflict that will set the next phase in motion fully.
I can't say words like you. I'm with you 👏
I like how it's been going. Definitely different from the comics and it's been entertaining here and there. There's some parts that blow my mind and others where it seems like filler. But there's still 3 episodes left to blow us away.
What part of the show blew your mind ??
Really wish they built it up gradually, and it ended with an Avengers movie
Shock and awe for the sake of shock and awe is not mind blowing.

Let me break it down:
IMHO:
WandaVision is about grief.
Because its not the viewers job to lower their expectations and its a good writer/director/cast job to capture said viewer's imagination.
We’re consumers who pay for the entertainment and it is within our rights to critique a product that we believe isn’t optimal. This show is not good and looking at viewer numbers there are many people out there who think likewise.
Because its not a good show. Couldn’t get past episode 1

Absolute best part about it!!!
The main thing people want now is there being less jokiness in the MCU. Ever since GoTG, the MCU has tried to emulate James Gunn's storytelling, where there are jokes, but it's more endearing than abrasive coming from him.
Agreed 💯👍
Phase 4 should have just been about secret invasion as a whole. Could have tied greatly with post-blip storylines.
@@ianomondi3152 I LOVED Loki, but not everything can be that big. Intimate is definitely a good way to put what they're doing with this one.
If we would’ve gotten the old nick fury it wouldn’t have made sense.
i can agree that Secret Invasion wouldve made an excellent movie, but it wouldve had to be spread over several movies, like Thanos, to fully capture the scope of the subject. what makes the series work, so far, is that it does channel the focus through a single POV. i do worry that 6 episodes are not enoigh; the story feels like it'll need at least 8 episodes to expand its POV out into the rest of the MCU where Fury is less of a factor. but if all this series does is give us Super Skrulls to battle the Fantastic Four then that is more than enough.
the show doesn't have any superheroes so that already makes it feel too small scale
The small, intimate nature of the show is the best part
I've been enjoying Secret Invasion a lot. I was never a Marvel reader so I had no expectations of what the show should be. It's a good spy thriller, and compared to the George Smiley shows starring Alec Guinness that I love, this is action-packed!
Couple of thoughts:
I agree WandaVision was a perfect marriage of story and medium.
I liked She-Hulk as an episodic story. It seemed like a comic book to me -- a series of one and dones with a thread running through the series. I agree the Skar reveal was bad.
wandavision was perfect, felt like next gen tv
amen
I ❤ this! Our expectations are moderate ( born in ‘72;) and we are enjoying any part of the MCU ride!
Agreed. This stuff is freaking great compared to what we Gen X folk watched when we were young, even the social effect so many claim are horrible are leap year ahead. I love it all.
Enjoying the show a lot. I wish there were more than 6 episodes
One downer for me was the 6 episode run which might be too short but what do I know?
but its dumb that the skrulls can't just get on a spaceship and find a world
@@audaciousjonesthe implication seems to be they never found a planet but wasn't Thanos's garden an uninhabited planet?
@kellylingro3288 yes. However the only people to know about Thanos' garden haven't seen or spoken to Fury in about 5 years.. so unless it was reported up through a "Chain of Heirachy" which at the time wasn't in place because 50% of all life had been wiped at that point
@@CJ4YRD captain marvel should have told the skrulls about the thanos garden. She had more than 5 years to do it
@catastrophe8234 That's a fair point..
Shung Chi is so amazing. Definitely need more of him👍🏼👍🏼
i personally love the show, i can’t believe anything or anyone
@diggydub5720 nothing wrong with that
It has been chill so far nothing crazy but it’s not trash
@diggydub5720OR, and I have a feeling you've heard this before, you're just a snob.
@@nogrecordsWell not an excuse for bad writing. Like what was the impact of Kang in Antman
It won’t lol
you're in denial (and i actually love Secret Invasion)
This show gives me Winter Soldier vibes. I’m digging it a lot.
That’s a crazy take, Nick Fury not having that mystique is the story, and they’re doing a fantastic job with Samuel L Jackson. I can’t wait to see the old nick fury emerge by the end of the series
I love this show. It’s way more in depth than what we’ve seen so far.
Honestly don’t understand why this show is getting hate.. show is so damn good
Consume products do not question and get excited for the next product.
I'm really enjoying the show so far, I wish it would be longer.
I see nothing wrong with the show. Enjoy the journey 😊
Shang Chi is grossly underrated. Best new character in years
Be this critical after the show is over. There may be some be surprises in store!
yea and none of the things they point out are even a problem. It's more an issue of their expectations being off. That isn't the shows fault
I think it’s too early for us to be heavily critical of Secret Invasion considering we don’t have all of the pieces/reveals available to us yet.
There are two fucking episodes left lol
So what, a lot can happen in 2 episodes plus there were 3 episodes left when I made this comment. There’s still more to be revealed. You should keep the cussing to yourself by the way otherwise you just come off like a douche. We all have different perspectives and opinions so learn to be respectful towards everyone or keep your unnecessary comments to yourself.
I've been really liking Secret Invasion so far. If anything, I wish Black Widow got more of a Bond-style film.
The show is well written and the acting is great! The best part about it is that it’s a serious tone. I love it! It’s been awhile since marvel had that
The show is not failing. It is epic and it is just beginning
Honestly, I love it, a good grounded show that’s kinda its own thing. Avengers: Secret Invasion, just doesn’t feel right to me. Anyway, a huge step up from She-Hulk.I rlly hope they fix her character bc she’s rlly cool in the comics and other stuff
its about shape shifting aliens so it shouldn't be grounded
I love the show. How can people be talking about this only 3 episodes in?
Bc there only 6 episodes in total
6 episodes in total, hopefully it gets a second season.
Is like giving an opinion on a movie at the midpoint.... It's like dude... Wait for it to end, then we judge.
@@enigma7385 Exactly! And most movies the last half is the best part.
I'm enjoying the show and I wish there were more episodes than 6.
I like it so far but the most recent episode was kinda bland. I’m hoping they make up for it in the last 3 episodes
Hope they don't ruin Super Skrulls
And I foresee it that it will be awesome and my expectations are where they should be.😂
Secret invasion is dope. I don't know what show this guy is watching.
I’m so damn sick of people judging a show before it’s done. Let the final stats speak for itself. You can’t form a strong opinion halfway through.
I'm liking the show a lot so far. I feel like the events of the show could still have a major effect on world as a whole but just hasn't yet. I think the truth about the Skrulls have to come out tho in the end to have the widest effecf.
The Skrull invasion to me seems like a combination of the takeover by Hydra mixed with the antics of the Flag Smashers which makes if feel like I've seen it all before.
suggesstion, why not look at it as a character study of Nick fury, cause its a show focused on him
@@ianomondi3152so far they managed to make him look like a rookie shield agent
I think that the main issue is that everyone is trying to connect everything. What was great about phase 1 and 2 was that we didn't know what was coming next or if it was going to continue so we didn't have such high expectations. If we just looked at these projects as potential stand alones they are great. They are also just putting out way too many shows. Not sure if anyone agrees but I liked when the shows felt like an inside look or special thing that wasn't needed to move along the MCU. Isnt that what these show were supposed to be?
What I’m getting more and more into it with each episode
I love the show. It’s well written and compelling
I love this show. Top 3 Disney+ series for sure
Completely agree!
I like it I’m just hoping for the finale it’s massive like it can end and not be over and I’d be happy for it to bleed into movies
I really like this show. I don’t care about the comic, entertain me and the show is entertaining, we all know it’s building towards something so just enjoy the ride and judge it when it’s over
Easily one of the best mcu shows!
@@matthewa2531 I was talking more about the MCU shows… I consider the Netflix shows separate.
