    I'm a plumber and around my area there are a lot of people driving pick up trucks and I just don't see the benefit of a pickup of truck over a box truck or van. As a service provider I want a truck where I can have fully stocked shelves with parts and materials for almost any job and not having to run to a supply house for every call

    2015 tundra just made my last payment so that’s a big pro in my book. Dislikes are known for not having the flashiest interior or best gas mileage. But I personally can say I love the power, reliability, and it does everything I need in a half ton truck no questions asked

    My first Handyman vehicle was a 2003 Hyundai Elantra(!!!) Then I had a 2013 Subaru Outback Sport. Then I got a Chevy Express 1500 Cargo van. I loved it. Then I went away from Handyman work for a few years but got back into it in March of this year and have been using my wife’s 2009 Honda Odyssey. I feel like it’s really Mickey Mouse and stupid but it gets the job done and it helps me make the income needed to support the family. But I’m gonna get a Transit 350 passenger long wheel base and remove all the seats except for those right behind the driver’s seat so I can do full on Handyman work and still take the family around. I’ve never used a pickup truck before, I was always worried about stuff flying out the back.

    Thanks for the info. In 2010 I bought a 1996 Ford F-150 for 2500 dollars from the original owner. In that ten years I have spent around 1500 dollars in repairs, and a lot of the repairs I did my self. But now that it has over 300,000 miles on it, I need to find a replacement. It still runs real good, but for how long only the Ford God knows. Good video Thanks.

    Good morning & thanks for a perfectly timed subject! Agree with everything you say ~ everything. My car is low mileage & runs great but it's also very old & needs $2,000 worth of maintenance work - on a vehicle valued at $1,200. Not worth the investment. (Timing belt, engine struts & new clear coat.) I fell in love with pickups when I rented a few during a recent move & shopping Car Gurus for an older reliable one now. It's a great site - easy to see everything at once. (Aiming, at the very least, for an American brand. You once suggested an oldrr F-150, that's my first choice. 👍 But dirt cheap budget may require some compromise. Maybe an old Ranger.)
    Two other tips - flood zones. After our last major hurricane car lots were filled to capacity with used vehicles - look out for these trends after bad weather events. Also, shop zip codes with high & wealthy retirement populations. It's true, many older men buy really nice trucks. There are several "comfortable" retired couples in my n'hood driving them. They're generally responsible people who keep up with the care & maintenance. I'm considering dropping notes in their mailbox, "If you ever want to sell, please call me. Thx!"

    Awesome video. Congrats on the CarGurus sponsor. Personally, I try to stay away from grocery getters. A machine is designed to run. Not putting around town at 30 mph's and driven twice a week. I look for a vehicle that has about 5k-7k less a year than the standard. This way I know it was most likely run on a regular basis but wasn't driven one hundred miles a day in stop and go traffic. Great video though. Congrats again man! well deserved.

So I will keep it because its my nice driver car, good road trip, great all around, and really it has worked just fine, but I will need to step up after my first contract, which is for the next 9 months, once im done with that, its van and trailer, as well as the golf wagon on the side, for the wife and/or just me nice leather, nice sound system car.

    I couldnt imagine working outta anything other than a van (on my 3rd, currently e-150 extended, with towing). Pick-up truck just seems to small and limited as far as what i can carry tools wise and grab up materials. But I guess it just depends on what all you get involved with work wise on a daily basis.

Tows my boat like nothing is back there, comfortable, factory inverter for tools and charging 16.5mpg paid 27,400$ out the door with 38k miles and 100k drivetrain warranty.

    I dont like trucks for working out of in HVAC, even though I have one, if it rains and you have to solder, you cant till your oxy/ ace regulators dry out, your also always waiting for things to get stolen because you never find one with a shell on the back that isn't half destroyed around here. Its just a few little things like that that make a van better.

    2018 f150 v8 with the suicide door cab and a 6.5ft bed. I actually don't like the v8 part. Woulda been fine with the EcoBoost despite the negligible loss in power. The extra 6 mpg I coulda got would have totally been worth it. Also, I thought I was going to be disappointed in the cab size (not the largest available) but the suicide doors make tool access super convenient as I carry all but my largest tools in the back seat. Second awesome thing I didn't think of before purchase but grew to love is the 5th window. I can put 6 or 7 14ft boards through that window and not have to worry about red flags. But the 6.5ft bed is the freaking best. I can stack and strap like 20 sheets of ply with the gate down. Im pretty sure the 5.5 bed was made as a joke so we can identify the guys who aren't that serious.

    Just because a truck was used to tow, I wouldn't pass it by. Maybe this is unique here in my area of WI but locals who are doing ok a lot of times own a second residence in northern WI. Than we also have a huge population of people from Illinois that have secondary homes here local to me. There is a decent amount of trucks for sale that were used for towing and a lot of the time it was only used to pull toys out for a particular season than bring the toys home after that season is over.

    Does this truck website contact you or pressure you to buy. I make the mistake sometimes of clicking on a site then I get calls, texts, emails begging me to buy. They require your contact info just to see what they have to offer. Its a real catch-22!

      Before the lift I could get it into my garage and had a pulley system that I could hoist it off. After the lift I can't get it in the garage. I haven't had a need to take it off. It keeps everything dry and secure in the bed.

    $38,000 for a used work truck..... for the normal handyman that doesn’t have a RUclips Chanel isn’t realistic in my opinion. I’ve been looking for one under $15,000, and honestly haven’t been successful. So I’m switching my search to something more useful for work, and not my ego, a work van.

    • @TheHandyman1
      @TheHandyman1  4 года назад +4

      Before youtube and in the middle of the last recession I bought my last truck for $15,500. It had 70,000 miles on it. I took it to just over 200,000 miles. I was able to pay cash for it. I shopped nation wide for the best deal. It ended up only being 4 hours away. I agree that a van is probably more useful for handyman work. But for the all around vehicle a lot of people are turning to the pickup truck for work and play.
