    I am SOOO DONE with CPR training. I had to go through that SO many times through the course of my working days. Every time it was re-cert time you had to learn a whole NEW set of protocols, because some new clown was at the top and every single one of them had to pee on the wall and leave their mark and make EVERYBODY sing their song and dance their dance. What I learned over the years is that you WILL break ribs and the one and ONLY time I gave breaths w/o a barrier, it took FOUR days to get the taste of death out of my mouth. The patient was a very elderly man in a nursing home, there were 4 RNs on shift and not ONE of them was doing CPR when they called for an ambulance... and the cops are getting there first. Being the newbie, I got pushed to giving breaths while the Sgt. broke ribs. I suspect the gentleman had passed away a while before and they just called for an ambulance "because". I'm glad they're phasing out the breaths, if you're heaving on the chest adequately there should be enough inflate/deflate happening to oxygenate the blood for the few minutes before EMS arrives on scene to take over. TV and training vids like to imply you're going to magically save a life every time. My experience is you're going to have a lot of disappointment and sorrow to wade through when the reality is they may NOT survive. But you do your best to help them.
    I'm surprised no BP cuff or stethoscope is included since a full set of vitals is always preached in training.
    I used to keep tampons in my jacket pocket and backpack. They're made for insertion and blood collection and are clean. I was in rural Alaska and if you needed trauma care they were calling the Leer Jet, and it was four hours until they were wheels down. At the time, the ER was mostly to stabilize and prep for air travel for anything major. They did minor surgery, stitching, splinting/casts and such. And if you were in the bush, you had to get to "town" before the jet could be dispatched (weather permitting).
    The good news is we have an RN on our church board. I'll bring in a cobbled together kit, make her aware of it and hope she upgrades it when that seed is planted in her head. We do have an AED on site though. Most of what we've encountered thus far has been medical issues/falls by elderly at our church. I let the RN take lead of patient care and work on recording timeline of care (scribe) and directing EMS to the patient and making sure the RN/patient aren't in danger of getting run over (most of the time it's happening in the parking lot). I follow up with an email to the pastoral staff to brief them of the timeline, who assisted in what way and discussion of contact with EMS when they arrive on scene.
    God bless you, Keith. Good tidbit to launch the ball rolling.

    Our Church is seeking information on putting together 3 medical kits. This video will help tremendously. Thanks Keith.

    Nice kit. Almost the same stuff in my kit I put together myself. I prestage almost everthing and go through my bag frequently as a reminder of location of things.

    Just got home from a "Stop-The-Bleed" class at our Church. Great class. (Never heard about packing a wound until now).
    I'm about to broadcast this video as, "Beyond-The-Bleed."
    Great stuff! Thank you Keith.

    I'm a TCCC instructor, I agree with the taking out the TQ. Too many people just don't know how to use that effectively. The CAT is more commonly known. It's easier to throw at someone and explain how to use.

    I recommend you check out the bear independent RUclips channel. He has a trauma medicine video series shows you how to stage tourniquets and use all the items in the IFAK. Also check out his prepper classroom. It is 30 videos on everything you wanted to know about being a prepper.. Food and water storage, to a bug out plan and communications!

    I've actually used 550 cord as a turnicate while on active duty!! As well as a sling and or belt but the ones that can be purchased now are easy to use and made of great material!

    You are correct about the tourniquet. That looks like a R.A.T.S. styled one. Being an EMT for 25 years, I can say they are an interesting idea, but due to the thinness it will cut into the flesh and damage tissue and also be an issue after it's released. I have one, only because of the small form factor. It would be fine for a compression band and that's about it. As you stated, go with the CAT or the SOFTT.

    A GOOD fak, is definitely a must. But knowing how to use what is in it, is just as important. I got CPR and first aid training through work, in a 3 hour class. Honestly, I think I'd feel more comfortable with a LOT more training and hands-on. 👍 Thanks Keith

    I did my war bag with one of them inside and I carry it in my vehicle. I gave the Idea to my church to have one, but the team don’t like ideas.

    Great presentation and great points on the My Medic MyFak. I currently have the Warrior Poet Society IFAK belt mounted but the MyFak would be good for a vehicle. Keith, I like that shirt u r wearing. Never heard of Simms clothing and may have to check their stuff out. Have Kuhl tactical pants for my ruck walks but gonna have to check out Simms.

      Simms is a fly fishing gear place. This is one of their fishing shirts. It is great for the range and for being out all day. Check them out. It's a bit pricey, but will last forever.

      @@ChristianWarriorTraining Awesome, yea the Kuhl pants are expensive but are really, really comfortable. I do ruck walks (with a 35 lb pack from GORUCK) and like comfy long sleeved shirts even when it is hot to protect my skin.

    Last year when I was asked to be on a safety team at church I thought what would happen if something did happen. I understand the chance of me using anything in my bag other than Band-Aids is almost 0. My thought when I put a trauma kit together was the church has a first aid kit but they do not have anything for major trauma. So I made my bag up for gun shots, stabbing things like that. I filled it with good stuff like North American rescue as much as I could. The 3 paramedics I know and probably annoy always asking questions to said get the better stuff just so long as you’re not getting the tourniquets off of Amazon, from what I understand from everybody, too many counterfeits that fail. I have studied many videos on treating gunshot wounds stab wounds and things like that. I understand that I am not a trained paramedic but if I’m the only thing there its better than nothing. I also ask the 3 friends that are paramedics on ambulance crews when when I learn something if what I learned is correct and I asked all three of them to see what answers they give me and except for one time everything matched up what they said. I wonder if I maybe said it wrong to the one paramedic or he heard me wrong. I’m not saying I’m doing everything right, I know I could put other things in there that I would probably use more but I’m looking for major bleeding kit.

    Hi Keith,
    2 Questions
    1. Where would be a good place to order a “battle” tested TQ & other quality supplies?
    2. Do you have a list of quality 1st aid gear you have in your kit?
    Thanks

    CPR is now only chest compressions. There is more than enough oxygen taken in simply by the rise and fall of the chest. Also, there is the 21% oxygen in fresh air but only about 16% in expired air. I have performed chest compressions on a heart attack victim that keep the patient well oxygenated without any expired air. It is far safer for the person doing the resuscitation as well.

    I have a few different kits, the best one i found was from Meditac kits, i beleive it was called the owl kit. It is the kit i bought for our churhc. Have all your basic trauma kit essentials (1 person) like a Sof-turnoquit, nasal pharnge airway, trauma sheers, gauze. On sale at the time for $150 a good deal, came with alot of other basic stuff too, anything it didnt have i just added in. Narcan and Israeli bandage.

    Super glue and skin gun are not the same. Don’t do it , Please. NPA’s, don’t use if you’re not trained ie head wounds use of an NPA is contra-indicated. Also NPA’s are not one size fits all. Ask about allergies before using triple antibiotics. Some people are allergic to the neomycin.

    • @TerryKeever
      @TerryKeever 3 месяца назад +4

      Also triple antibiotic creams and ointments contain sulfa drugs which many people are allergic to. I am one. Used Neosporin for years. Sometimes it worked sometimes made injury red and swollen. Then I found out it had sulfa drugs. Sone new varieties do not have it. A doctor recommended Polysporin and it works for me.

    I have always been taught that the RAT TQ works best for kids. If that is the case, wouldn't you want to leave it in the kit?

    • @ChristianWarriorTraining
      @ChristianWarriorTraining  3 месяца назад

      I'm not sure why a CAT wouldn't work on a kid. The issue of the width, regardless of age, is still an issue. They will all try and take it off.
