This show is addictive. Groucho so clever and ahead of his time.
So true, I’ve been binge watching them away! Still looking for the one where the guy makes home brew in his bathtub. That’s the only episode I vividly remember from my childhood when I watched with my mom.

Groucho was amazing. I’ve been watching these every day and in some episodes he’s really funny. His brain worked differently than everyone else’s. He was a nice guy too. He said things to fat people that weren’t very nice. I am shocked. He asks them how much they weigh and other things that most people wouldn’t have done in later years.
The McKeever twins were football players and did very well. Mike died 22 months in a coma after substantial head trauma from a car accident in 1967. He was a father of 3, 2 boys and a daughter. Daughter Teri was the first female head coach of the USA swimming team. Marlon passed away in 2006 age 66

So even as early as 1961 Ford's Edsel was an American cultural joke? The car was only a little over two years old at this point, amazing.
The Edsel was out of production in 1961. But it had a unique reception as it was immediately the butt of ridicule by the public and critics alike. Unfortunately, the look of the car was dominated by that vertical grill, and the public just was repulsed by it. Even critics, on the first day, compared it to a vagina and a toilet seat. The joke on the street was that it looked like an Oldsmobile sucking on a lemon. They finally settled on calling it a horse collar. Ford started by trying to make a car that had a price point between a Ford and a Mercury. Somewhere along the way they started marketing the car in advance of it's release as "the car of the future", and they had this very long campaign creating expectations that could never be met. It is considered the biggest marketing disaster in history. It had quality control problems, and it didn't fall into the desired price point; it was too expensive. Ford tried to fix the flaws and even dropped the grill in 1960 but they lost 250 million dollars, which is about two billion in today's dollars. This caused a huge shakeup at Ford, as they stopped designing new models by committee. If you look at the car today, it does not look so terrible. But something about people's expectations, the explosion of design ideas in the fifties and the competition created a moment where that car was shown on television for the first time and people just said "what the ..... is that?" They just didn't get it, and they didn't want it. And it only took a couple of days for it to become a cultural joke. It was only in production for three years.
@@JustVinnyBlues Fascinating. May I ask, how did you come by all of this info.? Were you an employee of Ford, Lincoln or Mercury? My family were always Ford, Lincoln & Mercury buyers, couldn't count the amount of Ford products my family bought over the decades if I tried! I still have a small collection of Ford products which my father had collected over the years. I use a 1980 Lincoln, Versailles as my daily driver, if my wife hasn't already taken it that is! lol. @@MrMenefrego1 :Well Ford built some amazing cars. But so odd they would be making the Edsel and the Falcon at the same time. The Falcon was perfect for the market. There have actually been books written about this, it was such a massive corporate mistake; most notably Disaster in Dearborn (2002). A recession hit in 1957, independents like Studebaker and Nash were going under. People were buying Volkswagons. And demand for mid range cars was taking a hit. They never established a separate production unit for the car, so it was a compilation of Ford and Mercury parts; and it looked like that. It had a very problematic push button transmission which was inconvenient and subject to failure. It had lots of quality control issues in the assembly. It was like a patchwork of good sounding ideas that didn't ever come together. But the biggest mistake was they never did any test marketing at all, and kept the car a complete secret, even from the dealers, until they were delivered. They never even showed illustrations. In tv ads, the lens was out of focus. They built up such over hyped expectations that it sort of made people angry when they saw it. The name Edsel now is synonymous with misguided over hyped ideas that are a total disaster. It's part of the language now. "You're idea is an Edsel."
@@MrMenefrego1 There was a big shake up in management at Ford after this though. One problem the Edsel had was there were too many cooks. Because it was supposed to be such a major addition to Ford's product lines, it was done by huge committee. By contrast, the Mustang was introduced at the World's Fair in 1965 and was an immediate show stopper and just took off. That was designed by one man and a close associate. The designer was inspired by the P-51 Mustang, and he named the car. It was conceived as a sporty model that would compete with the Corvette, but brilliantly with two seats. It was marketed as a working man's Thunderbird. So it had a very specific market niche, and it was dead on. Demand for mid range cars came back in the 60's and Ford introduced the very successful Galaxy.

Marlin, 13 yrs and 5 teams with the NFL, outlived Mike, who never realized his dream of Olympic hammer thrower, by almost 40 yrs. Eerily, both died in accident- induced comas.

Mercurochrome didn’t burn like metholate, unfortunately you can’t get it anymore because it had mercury in it.
@@rayjohnson9781 Before color monitors came out, my dad had a mercurochrome monitor. Yes, the color monitor was much easier on his eyes and did not burn them like the mercurochrome monitor would. He worked in a lab (which was located in an old trailer on or property) and would occasionally complain about how the meth(olate) would burn his eyes as he worked; so, I would agree with you on that point also. ;-p

In small towns men needed women to get the house together and a meal on the table......like being a house manger....it's a lost art.
18 years age gap in American culture is considered a lot. In some countrys where they still practice pre-arranged marriages, it is not uncommon for a woman to be half the age of her husband, but those marriages have little to do with real love. Most are all about financial gain for the family of the bride. I feel sorry for such young girls and ladys who against their will are forced into such marriages.
