    I find it remarkable that with all of these videos, the tone of the engine type it’s displaying can actually be heard even if it is slight. At 3000rpm this does actually sound like a V8.

      Well it has to be Crossplane to sound right, since a flatplane crank wouldn’t have that weird firing order.

      I love engines - simply - but mainly the sound they make. I dont see a V12? 😃
      Singing Sound with high pitch and melodic buzz is my favourite. Like Lamborghini V12, Toyota LFA (Yamaha Sound engineered), BMW M3 V8, R1 crossplane, Aston MARTIN V12, crossplane V8 with x-pipe. Dont like V8 flatplanes ( Ferrari, Lotus Esprit V8, McLaren) or harsh V6’s Peugeot/Volvo/Renault PRV, most twins, new BMW M3 I6.
      What would a vr7-cyl Sound like? Is it even possible to create a new sound?
      My Dream is to have a modular engine with multi cylinders and play around with firing sequence.
      What are your Sound dreams ? 😀

      V12s are in the pipeline, I've done the W12 though. I've heard some nice V12s, cheap ones (i'm looking at you toyota) don;t sound very amazing though. A standout for me was the Morgan Aero 8 GT3 cars from 10 years ago or so, fairly standard M3 V8s but they got the exhaust right, very loud and very good! I have a few ideas that I intend to try out before too long...

  • @EdgyNumber1
    @EdgyNumber1 6 лет назад +6

    You can really tell between the V6 and the V8.
    Obviously, it doesn't take into account the resultant exhaust noise. I'd love to here the similarities between an inline 3cyl and a inline 6cyl, and perhaps a flat-plane crank V8 and an inline 4cyl. Maybe even Yamaha's cross-plane crank inline 4cyl and this cross-plane V8.

    • @WilliamMoser
      @WilliamMoser  6 лет назад +2

      I imagine the V8s these demonstrations are simulating have split exhaust systems (one tailpipe for each engine bank) but it is interesting that merge systems (crossover pipes or single exhaust outlet V8s) only slightly dampen the V8 noise!

    • @EdgyNumber1
      @EdgyNumber1 6 лет назад +3

      William Moser there was actually a RUclips video somewhere comparing the harmonics of various engines and there were certain aspects that determined the sound. The primary- Whether even or odd firing (and resultant exhaust noise) and the secondary- the actual noise from the mechanical components.
      If there was a way of simulating the exhaust note, perhaps have a speaker at one end of a tube, perhaps the pressure waves could be recorded at the other end. Could be an interesting experiment.

    How is the sound being generated with rig? Do you have a transducer connected to pipes or something? It's so weird that the cross plane I4 and the V8 sounds somewhat realistic at certain RPMs. I think it emphasises the secondary harmonic too much though, higher cylinder engines just sound higher pitched.

    • @WilliamMoser
      @WilliamMoser  4 года назад +1

      I've read that the volvo/ford 60 degree V8 had split crank journals, so it would have the same firing interval as a 90 degree V8.
