You have hits a bull's eye. India is dependent for all kinds engines be it fighter jets, MT engine, drones, Engines for Transport plans. PMO must make task force to push the projects which are specific to engine technologies. I don't understand why we Indians are going after reverse engineering option, atleast where we are stucked and wasting valuable time, may be we get some quick break through. That's why India arms acquisition is getting hampered.

All they see is how much is the budget and what the immediate outcome after spending that money.
Nobody seriously understands the defence R&D, ecosystem in New Delhi and those who do, either they're somewhere else or they'll not be listened to.
If somebody at the highest level had some understading, they would not have stopped budget for kaveri engine then. Now after all these years, when Ukraine is in cricis and US showing nakre as usual we're remembering kaveri engine.
This syndrome of either letting down projects mid-way or not timely upgrading inducted indigenous weapons is common. Arjun MBT, INSAS small arms, Abhay ICV, Arjun catapult gun God knows how many more. Atleast now this has to change. If not Atmanirbhar Bharat in defence would become a joke.

It's high time that we develop a better technology for sea mobility. Fine, we can't develop gas turbines, but, are we developing anything that can use some other fuel?
We should be taking a look in that direction. Gas turbines come with inherent problems. Can't we develop a system with higher fuel density and low weight that goes beyond gas turbines. Probably Hydrogen pellets or something?
Also, Rajput class destroyer case has some different outcomes. It was a decommissioned ship that was quite old and was hit by a torpedo. I don't think it had anything to do with engine.

This is the problem with our country. We claim and plan to make newer and much more effective military hardwares with more indegenization, but cannot even make a powerplant i.e., engines or batteries to power the very hardware itself. We need fighter jet engines, drone and helicopter engines ship turbines, armoured fighting vehicle engines and what not from other countries. What use would be Uttam AESA radar or Brahmos missile if the ship or jet cannot get a damn engine to power itself and run? We need to be self-reliant on engine and powerplant sectors to speed up acquisition and design processes of our hardwares. If we can provide for our own engines, we won't be at the mercy of other countries for the engines or incorporate design changes to fit their engines and possibly compromise on the optimal performance of our hardwares
