I dare you to watch Takashi Miike's Audition (1999).
Hello @HeavySpoilers .. you are my favorite content on here. I fear my question is constantly getting buried under 100s on comments. I know you would like to make a great video on this topic…or make a theory time…. my question is WHERE . IS. ICE. MAN . 😢 (Xmen97)
The attack on genosha should have been more than enough for him to show face regardless of personal feelings. (People have been telling me he doesnt like the xmen) SO WHAT? Right?
@@lornejustice7571 right now some writer at the Xmen 97 studio is face palming and muttering dammit! I knew we forgot someone!
I missed this Paul. is it possible to watch it now? if so where?
What a coincidence that this video comes the day after a high-quality pirated version of the movie shows up on the internet.
*_RRREEEEEEEEEAAACCCHHHHH_*
Arrr, just what I was thinking 🏴☠️
I’m guilty 😭
🤫
😆
It was probably even more satisfying to first adopters who took a chance before the hype. They'd be blown away because expectations were low.
day one went alone, no one wanted to go with me because they had a certain perception that comes with a Godzilla movie, ended up being my favorite movie of last year.
"Not having been to war is something to be proud of."
I'm glad you finally saw it, Paul! One of the many things I love about Godzilla Minus One is the juxtapositions between Godzilla and the terrific human cast. Film protagonist Koichi Shikishima wants to give up on life because he doesn't believe he's worthy of it. How this juxtaposes with Godzilla is profound. Godzilla's arrival is heralded by dead deep-sea fish. In Japanese culture, the meaning of Dead Fish stands for giving up on life, not caring anymore about what happens next, and when you have nothing left to lose. Throughout the story, Koichi witnesses the dead fish at key moments of his arc. And though he later deduces their connection to Godzilla, he seems unaware of their eerie connection to the ghosts in his head. This all changes when he chooses life.
It's true that in Japan, when we see someone who has given up, we say they have "dead fish eyes."
Shikishima had dead fish eyes many times, but he overcame them.
Surprised you didn't mention the mark on the mothers neck at the end
I was thinking I was seeing things. It was growing, wasn't it?
She's going to mutate into mothra in 1.0
@@andyharmer32 Mothra is my second favourite Kaiju. Don't tease me like that. Haha.
She's probably a clone that formed from godzilla's blood , clearly controlled by godzilla.
was looking for the answer to this very question .. surprisingly he dint mention this at all,
There's something subtle you missed. In the hospital when we see Noriko there's a black vein crawling up her neck... being infected by the big G might explain why she survived
Exactly! I'm guessing she is going to become Mothra in the next movie ?
Whos that i dont know the lore please explain @josealqueres
@@flip8966 Mothra is one of Toho's most popular monsters and second only to Godzilla in her total number of film appearances. Polls taken during the early 1990s indicated that Mothra was particularly popular among women who were, at the time, the largest demographic among Japan's movie-going audience, a fact that prompted the filming of 1992's Godzilla vs. Mothra, which was the best-attended Toho film since King Kong vs. Godzilla.[6] IGN listed Mothra as #3 on their "Top 10 Japanese Movie Monsters" list,[7] while Complex listed the character as #7 on its "The 15 Most Badass Kaiju Monsters of All Time" list.[8]
Though Mothra is generally portrayed as female, male individuals of her species have also been featured in the franchise, including Mothra Leo in the Rebirth of Mothra trilogy, and a male Mothra larva who appears alongside his non-identical twin in Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S.
So you finally saw it about damn time
Right??
It finally came out on digital.
You missed the very important detail that Kimiko lived because she absorbed Godzilla cells in the blast that killed her. There was a huge mark on her neck that looked alive as she was sitting up in the hospital bed
Thought I was crazy for a moment. Reminded me of how radiation fall out lingers.
*Japanese people are real artists Hollywood can never understand the true vision of the person(Tomoyuki Tanaka) who created Godzilla character*
Of all people, they know very well what the original Godzilla was!
Shin Godzilla (2016) is still my favorite Godzilla film, but Minus One was unbelievable! I got to see it on a massive drive-in theater screen and loved it
I did a double bill - watched Shin Godzilla on Amazon before hitting the theater for Godzilla Minus One. A great creature double feature with my daughter.
Shin was decent compared to this masterpiece
About time!! I've been waiting for some kind of Godzilla Minus One video since the release
hahaha thank you man, was gutted when it left cinemas and I hadnt seen it
@heavyspoilers I understand that, better late than never! 🙌 I can't wait for the 4k release lol
How is anyone able to watch this right now? I thought it was only being released in Japan today...
I'm an OG Godzilla fan and saw it in IMAX two days after release. Paul, this movie is... Truly a masterpiece of the Kaiju genre and a great piece of Japanese cinema, generally speaking. A favourite of mine, for sure. Takashi Yamazaki created something special in "Gojira - 1.0" and he's no longer Japan's best kept cinematic secret. Been following his films since 2002's "Returner". You might wanna check out his WW II titles ."The Eternal Zero": aka: "The Fighter Pilot" --it's about the Kamikazes and "The Great War Of Archimedes". That one's about the building of the battleship Yamato. Again, both are written, directed with VFX designed by Yamazaki. Highly recommended.
returner was cool. i liked it a lot
last november i randomly noticed that G-1 was playing at our local theater and thought "hmm i've never been a huge fan of modern Godzilla movies but my younger son is kinda into them right now, let's make a family night of it ". had no idea it was from Toho anything about it
my wife and two kids and i left the movie almost stunned at how engaging it was. the atmospheric music was incredible, the sense of tension and scale was palpable, just everything done right. amazing experience
Minus One perfectly reinvigorated the message of the original Godzilla! Something that is sadly very relevant today!
My favorite Godzilla movie honestly
I've been watching rubber suit Godzilla movies since the 70s. I can safely say this is the best Godzilla movie ever made
For me, Godzilla Minus One is the best Godzilla movie. Just perfection
Yes, lad!
Also my film of 2023, went to see at the pics and it blew me away. Never did I ever forseee that a godzilla movie would hit me in the feels.
Godzilla is treated like jaws a bit, they dont over use him and really invest in the characters.
Also, the mine scene was very jaws 😅 so amazing.
Is it available general release now?
Rawwr 🦖
i like that koichi saving himself was a domino effect into making everyone else's lives happier in a way.
The mechanic goes through turmoil to find his purpose again
His neighbour becomes a mother figure again
He inspires his friends from the boat, even the scientist.
And Noriko finds her place in the world as well as love in it
it may not be but it could be a nice message about anti-suicide and seeing the beautiful impacts you can make
I had the accidental privilege of seeing this in a 4DX theater (The moving seats/water spray/wind effects) and it was easily the greatest movie experience I've ever had. It was so damn immersive. Better than any Disney ride experience. When Godzilla comes after the minesweeping boat I was right there with them. I wish I had been able to see it again in that setting before it left theaters. I hope it comes back around for a celebration in the future. The movie tugged at my heart so deeply. Regret, rage, redemption! I get choked up just thinking about the main protagonists journey. We've all been there in some way or another.
Something I noticed that I haven't seen anyone else bring up is how, _unnaturally,_ Godzilla moves. Just compare his attack on Ginza to him on Odo Island as Godzillasaurus. Yes, he's big and bulky, but there's clear thought behind his actions; he's observing his surroundings, moving organically, and he only ever attacks when provoked, either by the spotlight or being shot at.
Compare that with Ginza. Every step is measured, consistent, and almost robotic; he only stares directly forward and barely moves his upper torso. It places a lot of emphasis on Godzilla's now unnatural nature; he feels less like the intelligent, thinking, feeling animal we saw on Odo Island and more like a mindless engine of destruction.
You are right
One more thing: I rewatched a few scenes after leaving my previous comment, and what struck me were the little moments and reactions, that feel like they would have been skipped over in other movies. For example, at the end, when the mechanic’s reaction when he hears about Shikishima over the radio. They included the flashback about his final instructions, but they ALSO added his reaction shot. It just shows how carefully woven this tapestry is.
And speaking of woven, it struck me how each character had an integral part to play in the outcome. Even “the kid”, who ultimately wrangled the tugboats after being shut out. Take any one of them away, and the plan unravels. Masterful! 👏👏👏🙌
Glad you finally saw it. It is a masterpiece that won an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects! You'd think the US would learn from this version and make a similar one, but they will not.
Did anyone else cry when watching this film? I definitely didn't.
Most definitely did not cry. At all. Maybe.
@@luisruiz4895 not once, definitely like 6 times.
Loved it for the same reason i loved monarch. It adds emotion and gives you characters you actually care about.
What about the black veins growing on Noriko’s neck?
What was on Noriko's neck at the end when she hugged Shikishima?
She's infected of Godzilla, she could be the one that is able to communicate to Goji or to other Kaiju later on. I hope no part 2 because this is an almost perfect Godzilla movie
Paul, I have to say *I was a bit let down by your review.* I usually look to your reviews for those hidden details and Easter eggs. I was really hoping you'd dive into the *strange growing black marks (veins?) on Noriko's neck* at the hospital scene, but you didn't even mention it!
Seriously... how else does he think she survived that??
There is a little nod to the British Giant Monster Gorgo
When you first see Godzilla you see these mutated fish that look exactly like the ones from Gorgo when Gorgo first appears
The scariest thing about this movie is that Noriko survived. And in the hospital room scene, you can see a black birthmark growing on her neck. Noriko must have been fatally injured in the aftermath of Godzilla's atomic breath, but she looks strangely beautiful. Perhaps she got too close to Godzilla and absorbed Godzilla cells, which gave her special healing abilities. The final scene hinted at the hardships that lay ahead for their family.
Gutted i was never able to see it at my local VUE cinema, the buggers only had it showing for 2 weeks! Showings wjere silly times and only 1 or 2 screenings a day.
Spotted it on my local streaming service so i know what im watching this weekend!!
Glad you did this review, loved the movie in theaters. Gonna rewatch this weekend
I am waiting for the Godzilla Minus One physical media release to pair it with Oppenheimer as a double feature.
Loved it that much G-1 is my phone ringtone. Shame no-one likes me enough to ring so I can hear it.
As a Godzilla fan, I'm just incredibly happy we had two very different renditions of a Godzilla movie come out within months of each other and both be massive successes. Really shows his versatility
love this film....better than 1998 :)
I loved this movie and the way it seemed to put Hollywood to shame.
There was one thing that I didn't like about it though... that was the fact that Noriko lives and shows up at the end. To me, it felt like they had to have a forced happy finish to the film. That's probably me, though. Loved everything else about it. Saw it twice in the theater and on the second showing, I had to bring the whole family.
Haven't seen Godzilla and Kong yet. Will wait till that is streamed. :P
The actors you may not know their names but were very familiar because some of them is in Samurai X movie. Lead actor play Sojiro the emotionless samurai and the plane mechanic was unmistakably Sanosuke Sagara ha ha ha
Such a Good movie 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Glad you liked it buddy
Ps Studio back drop looking *Sick*
Ey thank you man
Another perfect ending video awesome
Fantastic job dude!
Eeeeeyyy thank you man! 🙌 can’t wait to see your breakdown on it dude
You missed Noriko's neck. There was a black organism moving. Seemed to save her.
Finally! Been waiting for this 😂
I just watched it, like u said, is just PERFECT. The visual, the acting, the script, everything was SOOOO well cared, so much love making this movie. The real monster here is the script, man.... this should be studied for future generations, is a masterclass of awesome storytelling.
Lol I just saw it yesterday I tried looking up your video not knowing you hadn't made one yet
It's crazy endearing and also funny.
A must see!
I plan to finally watch this myself during the Bank Holiday weekend after failing to find a local cinema showing it.
Will check out your video straight after.
Thank you Paul.
Much appreciated
@@heavyspoilers 🤝
About damn time paul lol, been waiting for your feedback
Best movie from 2023. Arguably the best Godzilla movie ever made. This and the original are tied for first place when it comes to Godzilla movies and shin Godzilla comes in a close second.
I really need to see this , my very small town cinema only showed for a short while and i missed it . Where can i watch in the uk?
I just finished watching it (finally!), a few minutes ago. I held off on watching your video until after, and I thought your observations were spot on. It’s so well crafted - and I chose that word on purpose, because this movie is so carefully, expertly and lovingly shaped. The scene with G chasing the boat was…🤯😵. And so many aspects of the city attack made you think back to the atomic bombing. The movie is superb!
This was by far my favorite Godzilla movie
Greatest Godzilla movie ever made! A true masterpiece
How did you get to watch it? I don't see it in any streaming service!
Any info when the blu ray release is?
Watched this yesterday, amazing work. I was literally thinking oh that must be the original Godzilla theme or something cos i recognised it, then, simon says get the f**k up popped into me head and i was like ahhhhhhh, of course😂
Speaking of Japanese Horror, there is one gem that has made it in the top 10 list of most terryfing films of all time. That movie is Audition - an absolute masterpiece, but a warning; not for those weak in stomach.
I just saw it. And what a great fucking movie. What a rollercoaster of emotions.
Great movie and great break down! Love the channel and the content Heavy Spoilers team! Looking extra healthy and lean lately Paul.
Ey thank you, I filmed this after 4 hours sleep so I appreciate that
Thanks to the positive reception I went and saw Godzilla Minus One before it left theaters. It did not disappoint. Got literal goosebumps from many scenes. His atomic breath was the best iteration we've seen.
I saw it on the big screen. As good as it gets.
Absolutely was my favorite overall film of 2023. It was a feel good story in the end, subverted my expectations but in a good way for once, and of course Godzilla was fantastic. All of this on a manageable budget. Absolutely brilliant
It’s a truly great film
Disney needs to take notes into this one.
What about the thing on her neck dude 💪💪😖 great video
Also one of my favorite movies of the -past several years!
it's PLUS ONE now since you're on board with us now, with the people having watched this
When does it come out for purchase?????
That's not Atomic Breath. That's Godzilla's Heat Ray which is more powerful and destructive than Atomic Breath.
I expected this video to MT knowing how much he loves the Godzilla verse
Funny i just rewatched it and then i see this upload. Good video as always!
we need this movie on bluray here in the usa already. i loved this so much and want to own it. if MT is doing the breakdown tell him to be serious about it, leave out the cornball jokes that aren't even funny to begin with.
My favorite Godzilla movie!!
I finaly got to see it yesterday! It is byfar the best 2023 movie.
Loved this movie! It's my second favorite godzilla movie after Shin Godzilla! 🐲
Greatest Godzilla or Kong movie
I hope I will be able to watch it soon 😳😊
Hey guys!!! I'm from India, is there any way I can watch G minus one? I have tried prime video with vpn but it blocks it.
Thank you from japan
Hey Mate, miss you.and Greg doing the podcast. I know it was a chore but how bout doing a one off for DP3. Or sooner, you guys are the shiz anyway.
Cheers
Where to watch it
Did anyone notice the mark coming on noriko's neck in the ending
That's why I'm here, need an explanation!
Ending Explained.
Literally misses half of the important beats at the end.
Definitely my favorite movie of 2023. So good!
It's about goddamn time!
What was up with Noriko's neck at the end?
“War, war never changes”
What’s the black webbing spreading on her neck at the end in the hospital?
Man what took you boys so long
All Godzilla Scenes from Minus One now live on our Channel in 4K.
Love from India ❤
How long does it take to rebuild a city
Wow I can’t believe you took so long to watch it!
"I believe children are the future, unless we stop them now."- Homer Simpson
This screenplay has 0% fat. It reminded me of the OG Star Wars script. Should be taught in film school.
I’m still figuring out how Godzilla stand in the ocean.
I'm not sure we ever gonna get this movie again I'm not sure there's gonna be a follow up to this because it feels like Japan rather makes Godzilla movies and instead of a follow up it just does on other Godzilla movie between the American versions to make some money they're so good though because Sin Godzilla was also very good one mostly because of the Godzilla and not the people but was still a fun way to see and that's still my favourite version of Godzilla and then I have also an open ending where Godzilla evolved and now we got this version of Godzilla that also seemed to evolve and become bigger I would love to see a second version of this like in the normal day and age of Japan and see maybe that Godzilla crowed even bigger my biggest he ever has been I would be so awesome to see I've got most tall Godzilla we ever seen that's a planet cannot even hold him I would love to see that kind of thing but I don't think we're gonna see follow up to this the American version is the one that keeps on having follow ups but the Japan version is always a new take on Godzilla
Best Atomic breath of all time.. bro's ray is a f**king Nuke and it was glorious..❤
You forgot to talk about the growing Mark on the woman’s neck at the end of it 😢
One small point - planes in WW II did not have ejector seats.
Ah I checked when writing and I'm sure I saw they had them which is why it was mentioned in the movie.
@@heavyspoilers The P-51, the Spitfire, the Lancaster, the ME-109, the B-17, the B-29, the Il-2, the Zero, the B-24, the Hurricane, the FW 190, the GM-4 etc. none of these had ejector seats. The only plane in WWII which had ejector seats was the HE 162 but only 300 or so of these were built and very few saw combat.
I view all the scenes after he ejects as being his fantasy. There was never an ejection. His girlfriend didn't survive the earlier attack. It is like the final scene in Gladiator or Braveheart - his fantasy as he is dealing with his own mortality. A grimmer ending I know and just a theory. One hell of a movie irrespective or what your opinion is on the end though. Wish Hollywood got back to making genre movies of this quality.
Tachibana showed a lever for the ejector to Shikishima, I'm wondering if he put that there?
One of us Paul, one of us...
