I like the Go line. Your Surface Go 2 (tablet) review helped me when I bought a Go 3. I don't think Surface Go devices are for everyone but great if you don't need high end internals but still want a great display, speakers, build quality, and a light, portable size.
The one thing I would really like to see (given the small SSD) is a micro SD card reader. It would save having to use more cumbersome thumb drives in the USB A port.
It is so sad the 12" Macbook is not a thing anymore. Imagine that with M1. 🥰 I would totally love that thing at that time if it's performance wasn't so low. By the way, I remember watching a video about it and it absolutely blew my mind how tiny the logic board was. 🤯
Yeah agreed, the 12" MacBooks has been one of my favourite laptop of all time, even though the power sucked it was so useful for movie watching, research, writing and light work. It went every where with me
please share what difference an m1 makes on typical school/office work, or any other type of work? then explain how m1 improves gaming. chip sets don't matter which is why coroporations, small businesses, governments, educational institutions, nonprofits, and ngos across the entire planet keep their computing devices for 5 to 7 years. hardware such as touch screen, pen support, sufficient ports, 2-in-1 design, upgradability, repairability, sufficent ports, OLED screen, face unlock, etc. are far more important.
The older version (8 GB RAM 128 GB SSD) is going at quite a reasonable price near my place. Wonder if I should get that one instead. Looks almost the same to me.
Nice review. Just ordered one for my kid for school; the weight is less than the laptop 4, and I guess the resolution and screensize is fine for school work. Our house is swamped with surface devices and accessories, so picking a new surface up for my kid was a no brainier. Time will tell if she’s happy with it :)
Great video man, I love the photo you used for the thumbnail, it really caught my eye. I have the 1st gen Surface laptop go and I love it. I bought it new with 128GB storage but upgraded it to a Samsung 512GB SSD because 128GB is just downright small for me. This thing performs well, Im glad I have it. Only complaint is not having a backlit keyboard but besides that its perfect
Such a brilliant review, cheers for this, it’s really helped a lot. I’ve seen a few reviews now and I really like it. As a digital engineer suffering with a CNS condition, I would have liked Thunderbolt 4 support and a backlit keyboard as it would save me from lugging around my 15 inch. However the fact it has a touchscreen is not a bad trade off for Gen 2. The price is a little high at £729 for the top model but the fact it’s somewhat repairable is a start. I probably won’t get it myself right now as my iPad mini 5th is my secondary work / personal device but I know someone who’ll definitely want to get this, it’s definitely the perfect device for them.
Thanks mate. I plan on upgrading the SSD on mine as even 256gb isn't enough for me, this is why I chose the 128gb model. I will post a video when I upgrade it 👍
i know i want to buy a surface go product, only when my current surface go gen1 2018 is dead. It still performs as good as day 1. The surface product line up build quality is good.
How warm does it get? I had a Laptop Go and had to return it because it would get so hot that it was uncomfortable in my lap. And that was when just browsing on Edge. Otherwise I loved it!
Laptop Go 2 : 1536 x 1024 (148 PPI) 15.6" Laptop : 1920 x 1200 (145 PPI) The density of the pixels is measured in pixels per inch. PPI determines the physical size of each pixel. If both Laptop Go 2 and a 15.6" Laptop both roughly have 145 pixels per inch, does that mean if these two screens were to compared side by side, the FONT would be the same size on both displays? This is important for people who read lots of text and do word processing. Can you do a video to demonstrate this?
@@MashITTech Glad to hear that. No reviews ever mentioned this. It is crucial to get this point across because I had the impression the Font size would be difficult to read on a small 12.4” Laptop Go 2 until I found out that it has around the same PPI as a FHD 15” laptop. It is tough to visualise without both laptops side-by-side.
very nice review it wasnt long and dreadful to watch but im personally going to save some money for surface pro x since it has lte and better specs without having to cost too much
A pretty solid device but no backlit keyboard at the 8GB pricing make it very difficult for me to buy. That is a shame as it would not have cost MS much to add this feature.
Agreed, but MS are deliberately gimping this model to keep the standard surface laptop a more desirable option. The 8gb I am not bothered about for my mobile use but I would have loved it to have a backlit keyboard
@@unbroken1010 In the UK our energy bills are set to go up from £1800 to over £4500 a year and possibly even higher. So saving on lighting as well as other cutbacks are essential. So by not needing a light on when typing, the amount I save will be a relief. In our winter we get to as low as 8 hours of daylight, so having lights on can add up.
Ultimate student laptop if your apps arent't only on windows is the m1 macbook air. I'm in the construction industry and I don't recommend the m1 macs or m2s for architecture because of the lack of support for software the majority of construction companies uses. If your work flow is around archicad or sketchup , then I think your're fine. But if have to use autodesk software ( even though you can run these software on m1 macs with paralells via Rosetta and ARM64EC ) , you should consider a dell xps instead as using paralells to do run cad or 3d apps can result in a bad experience with weird bugs ( without fast fix ) . Edit ; Note that microsoft has released an arm developper kit , any time soon these issues might be fix so if bootcamp will be introduced on these macs , you should definitely take the m1 macbook air or the m2 instead, we don't know how long this will take, but keep in mind developpers are working very hard to do these so it might be available sooner than ever.
@@MashITTech battery life on MBs is on par with best intel laptops in all standardized battery test and that is a empirical fact. please share any standardized test that shows otherwise. also, MBs lack basic 21th century hardware (touch screen, pen support, OLED, 2-in-1 design, 180 degree screen, upgradabiilty, etc.) which is why they only have 8% market share.
I am considering this laptop ( hoped for a better battery time though) but recently noticed Samsung has released the Galaxy Book 2 (sits under the GB2 Pro) which seems very well priced but no reviews found yet. If I see a special price promotion of the GB2 Pro that would be my future-proof device.
I had bought a first generation Surface Laptop Go and loved the size and build quality. But my god the fan noise was intolerable so I returned it. But it sounds like you didn't have that problem with this one. Did you ever use a 1st gen too?
The fin does spin up when I am heavily using the laptop ( gaming, installing loads of windows updates or large file transfers over the WAN but otherwise it has been really quiet. Fan noise really bothers me as well which is why I have been using the 12" MacBook or m1 MacBook Air in recent years
I really disagree. The cheapest "somewhat" usable option is $800. and even that one wont last for long due to the relatively low ram and storage options. also 4 core cpus are useless for something that costs this much these days. putting an older ryzen 5000 would have been so much better than Tiger lake nonsense . much cheaper options with non of its flaws are already out there. ill pass thank you.
Thanks for the constructive feedback. Don’t get me wrong I would have loved them to put a ryzen 5000/6000 chip in there hopefully they will in the full surface laptop. But in my opinion a laptop is more than just the specs and that is what I love about this machine, it is so compact and a joy to use. A quid core is still sufficient for the majority of users work loads, especially students who will be using it for research, office, photo shop etc
it's a nice machine but I think they should have put a 12th gen chip like the i5-1240u and then DDR5 Ram with 16GB option, also 8GB Ram should be standard, the fact they even offer 4GB is a joke

totally agree! I have the surface laptop go 3 arriving tomorrow and the top end is still 256gb :( at least you can upgrade it yourself and I will do that in a future video

I love your high end Alienware reviews but getting some entry or mid tier laptop reviews are so helpful!

Any opinion on using it for photo or video editing mostly 1080p. Never mind you just said go for 8g
This thing is going to be crazy with Linux.
07:00 you can play this game for literally four seconds before your laptop go 2 start freezing and heating as microwave.

I have been using an m1 MacBook since launch and I do love it, especially the battery life but when I am onsite with customers I need a windows laptop

Can this output 4k@60 to an external ?
Brother is it good for coding
Can i buy this laptop for accounting softwares and tax purpose?
Might want a bigger screen. Power wise it would be fine.
Is the trackpad a force touch one or physical click?
Its a physical click
Will this be enough for running python code ?
Prices and specs are ridiculous. Still a good review though.

512gb is an option but when you select it also selects 16gb and an i7 and bumps the price to £1750! Not sure if all regions do this though

Certainly more than a little inspired by it, for sure
e-waste
Why do you say that? Because it’s not upgradable enough?
