From what I understand, Quake 2 wasn't even meant to be a sequel to Quake. It was a completely separate game, but they called it Quake 2 because that would ensure people notice it and buy it. So that explains why Quake 1 is the only game in the series with a Lovecraftian gothic theme.
I know I’m late but it was meant to be called Adrenaline before they went with Quake.

Am I the only one who wants to see a doom 2016 style remske of this? The sci-fi-lovecraftian thing has so much potential, even Id said they didn't do everything they wanted to with this

I do hope that the Lovecraftian atmosphere goes deeper than just the aesthetics if they reboot Quake, because getting to kill Shub-Niggurath kinda ruins the vibe at the end of the game. It's almost ironic that Quake 3's minimal story about some unknown alien force locking the Ranger and Doomguy into an arena for all eternity to fight a bunch of other warriors for all eternity is more Lovecraftian in it's setup than Q1.
@@Cosmic_Cretin Given that Quake 1's gameplay is basically Doom with fewer stronger tougher monsters, I highly doubt that they'll use the demon wave idea. Less enemies in a level means it's easier to actually just have them wander around in the level.
@@Cosmic_Cretin You're not locked in a room with waves of demons. Waves of demons are locked in the room with *YOU*. Which is a major gameplay and thematic difference. Regardless, it's the only way to make that structured and heavy enemy-AI script intelligent and node combat work. Having it be extremely open would just kill the framerate and any real pacing, as well as the platforming.
Lets have Id Do everything they wanted to do with this, now.

it's really amazing how ID software back-to-back-to-back made such great games (Wolf3D, Doom, Quake) and each pushed the envelope in terms of violence and programming further

What you were saying about a Doom 2016 style remake of Quake would be fantastic. I have a feeling it won't happen, but would be really happy if it did. Although classic Quake has always been less famous than Doom, I love the gritty horror feel to it. Doom never scared me as a young child, I just thought it was cartoonish violence. Quake gave me nightmares.
This is definately going to get swallowed by the sea of comments, but...

I listened to this soundtrack more than I played the game growing up!
The crosshair is available in the original but you have to turn it on. Run "crosshair 1" in the console or toss it in your config.cfg.
edit: I remember getting a shareware version of this game and Diablo 1 packaged along with new issues of PC Gamer magazine at my local book store.
Quake 64 and quake 2 on the playstation weren’t really ports. They were built from the ground up by British studios I think. They had to develop a similar software to the quake engine so it could run.

REALLY hope Vinny plays the Arcane Dimensions mod and the Episodes for the game. I'm honestly a Quake fan over a DOOM fan when it comes to original FPS games. The inclusions of a 3D engine and MOST of the guns not being hitscans is seriously fantastic. I always loved the Plasmagun the most out of the original DOOM weapons (except in DOOM 3 and DOOM 2016 they got shafted) because having the lead the shots always felt cool.
Vinny, stop rocketing/grenading shamblers. They only take 50% damage from explosives. The super nailgun is the best weapon to use on them. Lighting gun also works which is dumb since Shamblers shoot lightning themselves, but since the ammo is so rare I generally just use the SNG.

Quakin' Ey, glad you played the Good ol' Quake 1. I enjoyed this game along with doom when i was a teenager! And i do really hope you can play this game with some expansion packs later on.
Trust me, they have new stuff and bosses to Qrack with.
This is great, I remember playing this when it came out, then finding out how to noclip and other console commands/cheats and finding all sorts of hidden rooms and secret warps.

I never played Quake, but once I played through it I was hooked, Shit still fun to play including the mission packs 1 and 2
If you like Quake, play its only true successor, Hexen 2.
Also, the music for the penultimate level of episode 1... does it feel like, to anyone else, the tinks in it sound like they feel like they're tapping on the backside of your head, from the inside?
That Blizzard talk at the end is extra comedic/tragic now.

I mean I kinda got my chromebook late in high school and I played the hell outta Quake. I already knew about it beforehand but I managed to introduce the game to tons of people at my school and we played the hell outta deathmatch lmao.

There used to be so many amazing mods for Quake. I played several Star Trek ones since I love Star Trek. Western Quake was pretty sweet. I recall one where you raced in cars. Then there was one where you could pick between a tank, helicopter, hovercraft, a couple planes, and a jeep or something like that. I tried to play the chess mod a couple times but couldn't figure out the controls.

I used to watch my Dad play this and Quake 2 like 15 years ago. My mom didn't like that too much.
I played without Spasm on Steam.
My advice is download Spasm. They really botched the upload on that one.
@@hoffer_moment ezQuake is more built for multiplayer but yeah I like using it as well because of all the adjustments. But for a more genuine and original Quake single player experience I like QuakeSpasm.
At least Spasm is compatible with the Steam version.
Talking about Wario Land, I only owned WL 3 and I enjoyed it a lot so I would suggest playing that

Does it need a reboot? Quake 1 was self contained and good enough, Quake 2 was alright and Quake 4 was just average. The only Quake that mattered is was QuakeWorld and Q3A
I think Jojo would've been popular in the old days if you gave everyone a gun. There's plenty of things about buff people with guns back then: Contra, Doom, Wolfenstein, Duke Nuke Em, etc.

Never played Judgement, but the designs all look like some adaptation of Death Note. I honestly think that artist only knows how to draw faces that way because comparisons between the manga and designs seem far too close to be coincidence. It's either that or the guy was too lazy to deviate from his comfort zone to stylize things outside of his own established style.
Quake 2 is my favorite fps on N64. It's multiplayer is wayy better than GoldenEye.

Are there any solid level packs for Quake 1? I've played all the included levels to death but for some reason I never thought to look for more. And I mean like top quality AAA meme free level packs.

I find the blizzard thing funny, when Destiny 2 came out I remember people bitching about Blizzard being awful despite the fact they had nothing to do with it, but now Diablo Immortal is coming people are blaming activision, now with my limited experience and knowledge, activision didn't have much to do with how blizzard operated, at least in the past, that might have changed, but hey I'm some random jabroni on the internet so what do I know.
