Hello, creator of the stupid Pac map here. The map has "power pellets" in the form of invulnerability pickups on easier difficulties, but on hard/nightmare you do not get them. I was honestly really surprised to see Vinny play it in-between all of these other fantastic maps. Side note, I also have a map in Re:Mobilize that Vinny did not get to, which is understandable with limited time. Thanks for playing me and others' Quake maps!
This stream was comfy, my favourite part was when he called it the origin of Skibidi and one of the mods didn’t understand so we had a little history lesson in chat about all source games basically originated as Quake mods
@@L2Nuku It actually modified Quake 1 engine. Very little of actual Quake 2 code is in HL1 (I think it's only some netplay stuff). And features that both HL1 and Q2 feature were coded in by Valve themselves instead of taking it from Q2 code.
vinny probably won't see this but the X-man quake thing was officially released by marvel. A publisher noticed the mod as it was in development and was wanting to make an x-man game since they had the license. That's the basics of it. there is a deeper answer with some research. but as for the game you are just a "guy" essentially and someone has cloned the x-men and taken over various locations and are being produced. which is why you fight multiple x-men. that's the essentially tl:dr of that entire mod/game.
And the official game sucked of course. Like almost every superhero game back in the day... Or license games in general. Took everyone a while to figure out that more people will buy a game if it's good.
@@brotbrotsen1100 Capcom had it figured out by then at least. Anyway if the Marvel wiki is to be believed, the protagonist of Ravages of Apocalypse is a bald man who wears no clothes other than a pair of trunks. He truly is a "guy".
Something to note, Scvmfvcked II, MacGyver Goes Lovecraft, and Pac are all from the same map pack, Coppertone Summer Jam 2 is really good. - - - While I probably wouldn't go through with organizing it (because it'd probably be a major headache to do, I have enough of one trying to organize my own map stockpile), I can probably recommend anything from the list below: ~Basically any of the custom addons on the remaster (The remaster has a lot of good custom addons, but I'll specifically single out Contract Revoked, Underdark Overbright, and Honey) ~Alkaline (A mod/pack primarily focused on adding content for the techbase theme, basically Arcane Dimensions if it went full hog on techbases) ~Joke Jams 1 & 2 (Jokey map packs made for April Fools day) ~Lots of Death Knights (a joke map based off of Doom 2's 100k Revenants) ~Disconcerting Unease 2 (More specifically, Pumpkin Spice Slaughter) ~Malice (A commercially sold Total Conversion mod released in 1997, it's basically its own game within the Quake engine and is really neat) ~Travail (Large scale multi-episode pack with well-constructed levels and a really nice custom soundtrack) ~Coffee Quakes 1 & 2 (map packs where the maps were made with a roughly 2 hour time limit, maps are relatively short and are split between multiple episodes)
Shout out to navyseals mod and its body location based damage. Actual headshots! Shoot the bajeezus out of the grunt's leg and his leg may break off when he dies! I love the navyseals mod.
I used to love Quake mods. I recall a Star Trek Borg one. There was one that turned it into a car or sled racing game. Another made it vehicular combat. There was a couple jets, holicopter, a tank, a truck. It was cool.
_"Remember when every game pushed the MP5."_ That's pretty much because it was a very well regarded weapon IRL, particularly by spec-ops types, SWAT, and counter-terrorist units back in the day, so it was a very given for stuff like Counter-Strike and similar. In eras where there were not any widespread and _truly_ dead-reliable short carbines like the M4 in western countries (so, up until the later days of the Cold War), and where most 9mm submachineguns were a variety of WW2 style open-bolt pipeguns with passable, but not excellent precision and handling, the MP5 was greatly appreciated for being an SMG which provided rifle-like handling and accuracy. There was also the MP5SD, the variant with a built in suppressor, which was appreciated for how it drained pressure from the bore to reduce the velocity of the projectiles, so that they would move below the speed of sound and thus make for an even quieter weapon, without needing any special subsonic ammunition which was loaded lighter.
You should've definitely included the Ravages of Apocalypse OST with the mod, Vinny would've had a laugh. The story of how the TC became a commercial product is also pretty entertaining.
13:33 Only a 90s game would attempt something as wacky as 3D fire and 3D explosions. Sprites and particle effects usually look better for that kind of thing. One of the only other 3D explosions I can think of (other than Quake 2), is at the end of Half-Life 2 when the citadel goes nuclear. Even that looks kind of funny, come to think of it. Spamming that effect in early Gmod videos for lolBEEGexplosion doesn't help it's wackyness either. I miss my ancient lost Gmod videos.
I remember the QuakeCon online booths hosted on inside3d with modders make some insane mods like Tetris, Tony Hawk Skateboarding and maybe the first ever Battle Royale (inspired by the movie)
Some of that's been archived! Look up "Quake Expo" and you should be able to find the sites. I don't know if the ones you mentioned are in there anywhere, but if you have the time to dig through it all I'm sure something interesting will pop up.
John Romero played MyHouse a few months back, and had a similar experience fighting with the GZDoom UI as Vinny did here with what I assume is DarkPlaces. I can appreciate the appeal of highly customizable software but good GOD sometimes this stuff makes me feel the way my dad must anytime he looks at a computer screen. As for shitposts, Vinny's right that they are less common in Quake, and the only ones I can really think of right now are the two April Fools Joke Jams, which I haven't even played. Maybe also the FireBlu Jam from a couple months ago? But I don't know how funny that one is beyond the mappers using that famous texture, since I haven't played that pack yet either. There's also "Telefragged" from the old Rubicon Rumble Pack, I guess, but it's a tremendously long map. Fun as hell, but it's an investment, and all told it's more a fascinating gameplay mechanic than a shitpost. I'm really reaching to come up with recommendations, I've been out of the Quake loop recently. In any event, all that stuff is available at either Quaddicted or Slipseer if anyone's curious! But for the love of Christ just play in IronWail.
I feel in terms of shitpost/meme mods, Half Life 1 has the most, Doom is somewhere in the middle, and Quake doesn't really have much, Quake community is more serious i guess
I know it still ended up as an hour-long segment, but I'd love to see Vinny spend a non-Sunday stream diving into something like this without having to rush because of other segments. Especially something like this that is lighter on the shitposty side. In a perfect world he'd have time to play everything at length, I guess.
Finally getting the chance to finish watching this cause I fell asleep lol thanks for uploading! Almost forgot, not sure if you’ve done this already but would there be a chance for you to play the expansion packs of Quake 1 and maybe even Quake 2?

~Lots of Death Knights (a joke map based off of Doom 2's 100k Revenants)
~Disconcerting Unease 2 (More specifically, Pumpkin Spice Slaughter)
~Malice (A commercially sold Total Conversion mod released in 1997, it's basically its own game within the Quake engine and is really neat)
