I was batoning the other day and my knife literally snapped; what’s the best type of metal for this? Is there a certain steel?

Any decent made steel from a reputable manufacturer. I also would say a carbon steel generally is tougher

I would argue the Glock 78 field knife makes a good batoning knife for the price.

When Jaakari Puuko went viral on RUclips, some butches came out with the worst heat treatment, and the worst bevel grinds, that I've ever seen, in my 35 year plus, professional sharpening/repairing knives career. I own allmost al lthe known survival style knives and ton of Bushcraft knives, from allover the world. From 600$ customs, to the cheapest Moras. When I say the worst, I mean the worst ever. That's ahame because the ones that came with good heat treatments, are decent hard use knives for the price. I did a research, and I found out, that others had exactly the bad experience tha I had. Some complaints where on their official page reviews (don't know if they are still there),because it's bad marketing for the company) Anyway, I'd still choose a Condor Terrasaur, or a Darklore, over the Jakaari puuko 110. Another great option, is the Peltonen Knives M07 Ranger Puukko. LT Wright, is by far the best knife here GSO. LT Wright and TRC Knives, are the top 3 semi-Custom, who dethrone the Bark River from it's throne, as the King of semi-Custom knives!

I think the bad batches of the Teravas are long gone. From what I’ve seen they seem pretty squared away these days. I do like my LT a lot too. The handles are just too darn smooth though. That’s my only gripe. Also should look up the PBK Essential or his other blades. He’s one of my favorite makers

Won’t deny there probably were some bad batches from Terava, but all the ones I’ve gotten have been great. Beat the snot out of them and they’ve held up.
