    Thank You Sir, you just saved me $90 on a new lock and handle set !! About a week ago I purchased a Kwikset front door handle set, because my 17 year old set was very difficult to open the door. Your video was spot on!! My latch was the problem, so I went to Lowes bought a new one for just $8 bucks and that's it. No need to replace the entire set, returning it un opened back to Home Depot. Thank"s again brother and RUclips !!

    When popping the plate off the inside of the door, start prying from the bottom first. That way if you do slip and ding the door, it won't be as noticable when you're standing at the door and looking down at the handle.

    Great video, thanks! Our bathroom door latch doesn't retract enough and sometimes makes the door very hard to open. Is there any way to adjust the latch, so it wouldn't stick out so far? It's always been like this, so I don't think it is from wear, but maybe from incorrect installation. 🤔

  • @kylecross8770

    how do you get the metal shim onto the unit? I got the rectangular plates off easily enough, but the metal shim seems to be too small: it does not clear the tip of the latch that actually moves, even thought I think I see holes that are supposed to line up with pegs on the body of the latch
    also, my metal slider seems to get stuck 3/4 of the way to the 2-3/4 mark.
    any thoughts?

      Hi Jonathan! Glad the video helped.
      Are you referring to the door being closed with no means to open it now that the handle has been removed?
      If that’s your problem, just use a screw driver to mimic the door handle mechanism to pull back the match. Or slide the one side of the handle back in and you should be able to use it in the same fashion as when it’s all screwed together.
      Hope that helps. Let me know if that’s not what you’re referring to, or if you have any other questions.

    Will this work if the door is a dead bolt only? It won't retract so I think the only thing to do is remove the handle and retract it from there?

    • @mikebikercanada
      @mikebikercanada  Год назад +1

      Hi Jill. I’m not sure if I understand correctly, but Removing the handle will definitely allow you to retract the latch manually.
      The deadbolt is a separate locking mechanism above the door handle though. If that is stuck and not retracting you may need a locksmith to assist you.

    You skipped a very important step. If both the inside and the outside handles/latches don't operate, HOW did you get the door open to remove the mechanics? If the Latch won't throw back, the door is still stuck. It's each to pop it out when it's in the open position. But I can't get the door open.
